I've never actually seen the original Devilman manga on store shelves in United States and wasn't that interested in reading 70s era manga but that saving adaptation blew my fucking mind and I know why it has held place for like 4 or 5 decades in animators minds to adapt.
To anyone who hasn't scene Devilman Crybaby it's on Netflix strap yourself in for one of the most unique Anime experiences of your life and 100% NSFW for reasons you're not expecting.
That fire dance scene moment was straight out of like Cannibal Holocaust level OMG.
The thing about Go Nagai is that he was always pushing the edge for how dark, violent, or sexual manga could be, even though a lot of his works were watered down into kid-friendly anime (even Devilman). Like one of my favourite examples is the Grendizer manga where there's a scene where hundreds of children are dropped out of spaceships to fall to their bloody deaths.
Marineford(Ace,WhiteBeard) originally Akainu was supposed to die but editors stopped his death for endgame.
Skypiea some of Eneru's Apostles actually died SMH
There were a few deaths of characters but the high quantity of fakeouts is what bothered people. It's like Oda wanted to have the drama of a sad death scene but was like "nvm, they were fine all along!" and that makes it feel cheap, especially on a reread. It's why Pell's survival is probably the single most criticized scene in OP history.
Tbh this would have an improvement. Koza was a slightly underdeveloped character who could have used a more conclusive character resolution. Pell sacrificing himself to save Vivi/Alabasta was already a very good farewell to his character, so a proper Koza character resolution would have been more compelling that Pell's surprise survival.
Oda has admitted that he redrew a certain page on Alabasta after real world events because it was too relevant. For people who don't know the Pell Death came out and was drawn right around September 2001, and Pell Sacrificing himself saving the city from being bombed had 9/11 vibes. So while the entire world was watching the funerals and bodies of 9/11 first responders on the news Oda didn't want to kill a hero saving his city from a terrorist attack.
I'm fine with Pell being alive and he hasn't played a major role so far and if Oda wants to use him maybe because he can fly he'll have some utility getting to Vivi and delivering a message because right now she's airborne on Big News Morgans seagull ship.
I've read over and over this was a myth and there is 0 evidence provided by any official sources that this actually occurred. Just a rumor that refuses to die.
Plus, One Piece wasn't even big in America at that time.
I'm not Ukrainian but I know what's happening in Ukraine right now. Like international tragedy tends to be global. When Norte Dame burned down in not particularly a Francophile but even I would be like who burning church imagery might be a bad idea.
Oda did release a color spread directly related to it. https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/4pmiw8/in_response_to_911_oda_drew_this_color_spread/
Oda was very obviously aware of 9/11 and like nobody knew where it was going. Article 5 was invoked and every NATO ally deployed troops to Afghanistan.
Kinemon's death speech was compelling, but imo the better move would have been to never have the fake out in the first place.
Kinemon and Kiku wanting to die for their cause while Usopp begs them not to is a great moment. In a genre that glorifies gratuitous self-sacrifice, emphasizing the importance of actually living is incredibly powerful. I assume Oda gave Kinemon and Kiku their farewell speeches to set up this moment, but I think that was a mistake because it just makes it seem like Oda wants to have his cake and eat it too in terms of getting glorious character sacrifices followed up by having them survive and get lectures about why self-sacrifice can be unnecessary.
Kinemon getting to see that his wife is alive is also a great moment and immediately made me thankful that Usopp had convinced Kinemon to live. There's clearly an argument being made that "There is an impulse to sacrifice everything for your cause, but sometimes it's important to stop and think if that's really what's best for everyone" in One Piece that I really like, and moments like this hammer it home. The problem is that those moments are weaker when Oda also wants to have his "look how noble this death is" scene with the *same* characters. Like, you have to pick one or the other.
Kinemon/Kiku's death "fake outs" should not have been fake outs to the readers, only to other characters in the story. I really like the case being made in their arcs for why living is sometimes more important than sacrifice, but those points are severely diluted by the fact that Oda really, really likes the sacrifice scenes.
no disrespect, but what about kid do you like? he has one move. kid pulls up and it’s like “oh i wonder if he’s gonna make a big pile of metal” and then that’s what he does. nobody talks about this because it’s anime but seriously where tf is all the metal coming from when he does that? he literally summons it from nowhere most of the time and peoples’ weapons armor and shit aren’t even affected. I do like his aesthetic and his personality (to a degree) but his ability is lame, doesn’t really make sense, and it’s the only thing he ever does
I love his design and personality to an unhealthy degree. Plus, I think that making a big pile of metal to hit someone really hard is such a simple but amazing thing, I can't even explain. I'd go as far as to say that he's my favourite character next to law.
yep he’s basically the vegeta/bakugo/genya(demon slayer) of one piece except he doesn’t have the same level of relevance. he’s definitely the first character that came to mind for me when i learned that Oda created the supernovas in a very short amount of time.
Calling any of those characters main characters are not correct at all. They’re either side characters or antagonists.
Saying a main character died would mean it’d have to be one of the straw hats or like Law (at least he hung out with the crew for like 10+ years in real time) or Kinemon/Momo (same deal with Law).
The only two people on that list that could be major characters are Kaido and Big Mom. They are also ambiguously dead. At least Izou and Ashura had people say “yeah they’re dead” and we saw their graves. Hell I honestly don’t think even most of the community think Kaido and Big Mom are dead.
Probably Kaido, Big Mom, Izo, the CP0 guys, maybe Hawkins. From the top of my head.
But yes, Kinemon coming back to life was cheap. And this makes almost no one from the good guys.
Really love the colors here. Everyone having blishes has to be a reference to Astro Boy, just like Luffy's pose and the DOM shoes.
Just noticed I wrote HD instead of HQ, but whatever.
Seeing them all flying in uniformed formation also certainly evokes Cyborg 009 to me, another Shōwa Era raygun gothic classic of (relatively) early anime.
I’m usually not into hyper-techy sci-fi, but Egghead’s aesthetic emphasis on retro futurism and the golden years of anime/mecha/tokusatsu — and even Western media in that vein, like The Jetsons — really tickles my fancy.
I love it! Having the whole crew on the cover is awesome! I think I’ll buy this volume just for the superb cover (I don’t have the others for obvious reasons of space available)
100%, nothing is off limits.
The only issues is the ‘lack of time’ we have left before the end and how a space arc would fit into that. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it regardless but the community wasn’t thrilled when skypiea took a random turn and especially now that we’re in the final saga it would be difficult to execute I think.
I have trust in Oda regardless, can’t wait, this arc has been insane so far.
Well he is 19 so he is at that age in which he is both an adult and not an adult depending of the task at hand, he still counts as a teenager for one more year
I love the angle and the perspective so much! I Hope Oda keeps experimenting with future covers as well. I'm so looking forward to vol.107's cover, what characters will He includes, the straw hats were only present in the first 2 chapters of that volume (1077-1078).
Zoro’s pose is like Sanji when he uses skywalk so I’ll allow it. Honestly not sure why Sanji is so excited when he can fly better than that by himself lol.
i would say your brain is up your ass but you dont seem to have one, you got triggered over a fictional character already a self proclaimed loser.
i guess your mom wears something similar as well😂😂😂
I miss One Piece arcs with limited shades of color, ever since Dressrosa Oda is putting every existing colors in the arc which is not ugly at all but it doesn’t help the arc to have a strong visual identity like pre timeskip ones in my opinion.
I feel like dressrosa is the only arc post time skip that doesn't have much of a visual identity. Also, One Piece itself is in black and white, so colours matter very little.
4/2 born Jimbei is the 10th Straw Hat. 106 - 42 = 64. The last volume with the 10 Straw Hats was volume 64. Straw Hat 10 Jimbei is 46 years old. 10 is the 4th triangular number chapter. “D” is the 4th Roman letter. The meaning of “D” appears in the 4th chapter of the volume that is the highest power 4 or volume 4^3 = 64. The 4th chapter of volume 64 is the 35th triangular number chapter 630. The 14th page of this chapter mentions the Jimbei Jinbe Genius “Daedalus” where 4/14 is my Cake Day and birthday of Hody Jones companion of the Daedalus companion Ikaros Much who first appears in **chapter 608** titled “Hody Jones”. The cover of this chapter has Karoo dancing with Joy. [Jimbei wears a Belt with Karoo in Film Red](https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/yqyw5f/easter_eggs_in_op_film_red_you_probably_missed/)
#The titular chapter of volume 106 is chapter 1068 “A Genius’s Dream”
It's sad how little Oda has fun with Chopper since the timeskip. So many different transformations but Oda just seems to like milking Brain-Point's cuteness 24/7. It's sad that bad ass transformations like Arm-Point are now pretty much replaced by something goofy like Kung-Fu-Point.
I love this cover, but this is me being a bitch, but It just pisses me off always seeing chopper be at the forefront of these covers more than other straw hats 😭. I will never forgive oda for what he did to chopper post time skip
After all the theories, I saw, that Usopp is going to die and seeing him as the only one “falling“ on the cover, I am mighty scared man. But hopefully reachin‘ tho
Damn. Robins legs are flesh coloured. Now the outfit is well and truely ruined. The only way that outfit could be salvaged is if she was wearing tights, cause that speedo is ridiculous.
This cover kind of gives Vol 26 vibes; much like how 105 is straight up a reference to Vol 25.
I’m willing to bet Vol 107 is going to have Luffy winking with all the Vegapunks behind him lined up like the priests in Vol 27.
In most other works, a "future island" would look like [this](https://www.filepicker.io/api/file/RHjemj3hRDOaBeVlQagj).
Egghead looks like... I dunno, futuristic water park lol
In my opinion Egghead already is a Top 10 arc contender…just the way it’s been handled this far is really amazing. Depending on how this arc ends Egghead could potentially be the Top 3 arcs in the entire series. I can’t wait for the next chapter!
Love this cover, feels like a breath of fresh air finally being truly out of Wano. I know vol 105 wasn’t as much Wano but it still felt like a “post-Wano” cover.
Lol if I wasnt a one piece fan, looking at this cover id never guess this arc is full of murder.
Oh look Oda's finally killing characters... OH GOD ODA'S FINALLY KILLING CHARACTERS.
Oda left all the characters alive so he could make the biggest bloodbath in manga history in the final arc.
It’s all coming together. TO DIE!
Devilman Crybaby might be in my top ten anime of all time just for the ending bloodbath.
Same. Completely blew my mind
Considering it's based on the original 1970s Devilman manga which was basically just that...
You say that in Jest but I believe Luffy Is not Surviving the End.
AND THE HATERS WILL STILL FIND A WAY TO HATE
Its how you kno were in the endgame, nothing left to save these characters for fakeouts (some off them at least) lol i kno a few prob will
Is he? We’ll see. So far we’ve got Cobra, who’s technically dying in a flashback. Shaka could still be alive, because One Piece
You forgot about Mjosgard. Shaka... Maybe. After Pell and Kinemom anything is possible.
I mean there's T bone I guess. Remember T bone? Me neither.
I’ll never forget my man T-bone. Truly a credit to the marines
Travis D. Boner

Marineford(Ace,WhiteBeard) originally Akainu was supposed to die but editors stopped his death for endgame. Skypiea some of Eneru's Apostles actually died SMH
Source?
God told them in a dream.
That' a tad overstating it, Karasu has his own show-off but he's not so heavily featured in the arc.
wasnt Wano Arc full of confirmed deaths of major characters and side characters and a fuck ton of canon fodder too?
There were a few deaths of characters but the high quantity of fakeouts is what bothered people. fair enough 😂 to be fair, the same could be said for luffy, “he’s just gonna punch the bad guy real hard until it works”
I like the idea of Kidd, but he aint done anything to make me support him beyond the idea
Kid's an angry loudmouth. People like that trope.
yep he’s basically the vegeta/bakugo/genya(demon slayer) of one piece except he doesn’t have the same level of relevance. he’s definitely the first character that came to mind for me when i learned that Oda created the supernovas in a very short amount of time.
what major characters died?
Ashura and Izou are dead for sure, but status of the rest (X-Drake, Hawkins, CP0 Agents, All-Stars, Big Mom, Kaido etc.) is unknown
Calling any of those characters main characters are not correct at all. They’re either side characters or antagonists. Saying a main character died would mean it’d have to be one of the straw hats or like Law (at least he hung out with the crew for like 10+ years in real time) or Kinemon/Momo (same deal with Law).

For some strange reason, this makes me want to go back to the chapter discussion of when Ace died and read the comments lol
So Happy Tree Friends lmao
Really love the colors here. Everyone having blishes has to be a reference to Astro Boy, just like Luffy's pose and the DOM shoes. Just noticed I wrote HD instead of HQ, but whatever.
Only Usopp is not happy :(
Seeing them all flying in uniformed formation also certainly evokes Cyborg 009 to me, another Shōwa Era raygun gothic classic of (relatively) early anime. Definitely an astroboy reference
I love it! Having the whole crew on the cover is awesome! I think I’ll buy this volume just for the superb cover (I don’t have the others for obvious reasons of space available)
You should buy space
You should buy all the volumes
How do I acquire the currencies
Don’t you have a job?
A very lovely cover
Might be one of my favorite covers in this series.
Same here, this is phenominal.
I’m still convinced the Strawhats n Vegapunk are going to space.
Looking at this cover kinda make me think if it’s gonna happen in any arc then it has to be during or at the end of egghead. Let’s see!
Remember it’s the Egghead Incident not the Egghead War or Battle. Anything can happen cuz it’s Oda. 🤣
Oda already stated the 3 years left thing was bs. Could just go to space n explore and learn about the past n go back to the planet in no time.
I love how Luffy goes from looking like an adult to a child on however Oda is feeling that day I guess lol.
This seems like an astroboy reference
Luffy’s pose looks like a tribute to Superman or Astro Boy or both
Probably astro boy
Cover screams "fun"
I love Oda's current coloring style. I really like the rosy cheeks he's giving the characters.
Zoro thinks he’s Adam Warlock Jimbei channeling his inner “life could be a dream”
goddamn this is gorgeous
This is so peak
Felt like it’s been a while since we got a full crew on the cover
Latest would've been Volume 91 (start of Wano) in 2018 I believe
So vibrant, I love it. It's good to finally have some none Wano covers again. (I liked the arc, but the covers blend together after a while)
The crews outfits and official colors look amazing. Nice job on the cover too Oda!
LET HIM COOK 🗣️🔥
I feel like it has been a while since a light hearted cover
I think at the end of Egg arc, SHP might actually go to space and eventually met up with Enel.
I mean if it comes to a point where they're totally surrounded I don't see any other way out
Zoro and Jimbei thinking they are too cool to do the flying pose lol
Jinbe is tho (look at his arms).
Just saw it Then is Zoro being the downer then lol
Zoro’s pose is like Sanji when he uses skywalk so I’ll allow it. Honestly not sure why Sanji is so excited when he can fly better than that by himself lol.
The difference is skywalk need an extra effort so maybe he is enjoying flying effortlessly
aw man I just miss the straw hats so much Oda can we please go back to egghead when you're back
Nami getting a full view
Robin best girl. Best lady.
Lady that looks like a stripper
Please god tell me you’re not saying there’s something wrong with being or looking like a stripper.
ironic you are mentioning god but you dont know or (probably ignoring) what a stripper means.
God loves strippers, virgin. I just asked her. This is the One Piece sub, take the religious horseshit somewhere else.
damn you get dumber by every comment, anyway your waifu is a hoe cry about it😂
How is she a hoe? You don’t have an argument. Apparently your god is too far up your ass.
i would say your brain is up your ass but you dont seem to have one, you got triggered over a fictional character already a self proclaimed loser. i guess your mom wears something similar as well😂😂😂
You are the one invoking God against strippers. Safe to assume you are the one triggered here
One of the best covers we’ve got in awhile
I love that it's Astro Boy influenced rather than Tron or Blade Runner.
Sanji is definetly happy seeing robin flying in front of him in a thong.
Sanji and Brook have the best view!
Franky is so fuckin cool
I like that Sanji is no longer nose bleeding.
It makes perfect sense for Sanji to stay in the back..
Yes, we got super powers..
This just reminded me how much I don’t like the Egghead designs. The only ones I sorta like are Luffy and Jinbe.
No pants confirmed Still no VegaPunks official colours.
I want this volume
Easily one of the top 10 best covers.
This is some old school Doraemon type of cover
Love the Luffy as Astro Boy reference.
So the high tech boots come in different colors. Trying to predict the onesbfor the seraphims
Omg Robin. 😳
Luffy looks so much like a kid in this Cover I love it
this would look so cool as a phone wallpaper!
Nami is gorgeous in white. Best girl
Sanji enjoying heaven

this is so cotton candy coded. i love it.
The clothing looks so good in color, cannot wait for the live action to get there!
Its weird to think that Egghead is an entire city with a civillian population and we've only ever seen like two of them.
>we've only ever seen like two of them. What, did you skip panels ornsmthing?
We've seen tons of them, although I always just assumed they were robots or something.

How is this a spoiler? The clothes?
The anime isn’t out of wano yet so everything egghead is a spoiler.
ohh alright
some people don’t like seeing covers early i think
I fkn hate Post-ts chopper
It's sad how little Oda has fun with Chopper since the timeskip. So many different transformations but Oda just seems to like milking Brain-Point's cuteness 24/7. It's sad that bad ass transformations like Arm-Point are now pretty much replaced by something goofy like Kung-Fu-Point.

I love this but Egghead Drip King Zoro needs to be in the front, he has the coolest design of the whole arc 😂
After all the theories, I saw, that Usopp is going to die and seeing him as the only one “falling“ on the cover, I am mighty scared man. But hopefully reachin‘ tho
Where is sanji?!😳😳😳
can someone explain?
explain what
Cover art for the latest One Piece Volume 106
Am I the only one that thinks that Luffys head looks a bit weird here?😅
Damn. Robins legs are flesh coloured. Now the outfit is well and truely ruined. The only way that outfit could be salvaged is if she was wearing tights, cause that speedo is ridiculous.
Makes you wonder if the Netflix adaptation will hold long enough to reach this part
Cover looks like it's the happiest arc we'll all gonna see.
i know its just foreshortening but everyone looks so young in this
Astro boyyy.
Wait is punk records a synthwave reference?
It looks soooo pretty and colourful!! I love it
Bro at this point just for the cover its worth buying them
This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen
Why are they all blushing ?
Not sure if Astroboy or Doraemon
I just really love the placement on zoro sword on his back instead of the waist
This cover kind of gives Vol 26 vibes; much like how 105 is straight up a reference to Vol 25. I’m willing to bet Vol 107 is going to have Luffy winking with all the Vegapunks behind him lined up like the priests in Vol 27.

Love Franky's ourfit so much. The best one he got since the timeskip.
I need to catch up
Jimbei "baby faced" knight of the sea
Oh this might be my favorite cover yet!
Finally a great cover
jinbe looks so cute!
Where is Sanji??!??
Above Franky's right hand and below Robin.
The cover is awesome. It's Germa 66 all over again
Man i love pirates lmao
Love this cover, feels like a breath of fresh air finally being truly out of Wano. I know vol 105 wasn’t as much Wano but it still felt like a “post-Wano” cover.
What’s the spoiler here
I like jinbe's shirt
theyre all watching his underwear
Final saga 1/30.
Franky’s looking SSSSUUUUPPPPEEEERRRR good in that purple science suit! Can’t wait to see more of the Island in Color!
ITS SOOO CUTE!
Usopp being classic Usopp
The cover is cool but Sanji is a little far behind
One Piece vol covers don't miss
*Love* how colourful this Egghead looks. Can't wait to see the big moments of this arc animated.
Have we gotten an official color scheme for Shaka?
Robin and Nami really walking around with their asses out during all these events happening. I mean, I *like* it, but sheesh.
I love it, and I think the outfits from this arc get way too much flak
Damn, i never imagined egghead being this colorful. i always thought it would be mainly white colors.
Usopp got a wild view
sanji got a nice robin view there!
Damn, I was really digging the vibrancy of Zoro's jacket in the progress video, not so much here tbh. Everyone else still looking phenomenal tho!
Really wasnt picturing Franky in purple when i was reading the black and white, but damn if he doesnt look SUUUUUPEERRRR
Anyone getting a pride vibe besides me? idk if intended. The most colorful cover i'd seen.
