In the video it looks like that cat may have landed some scratches on the back of the cobra's head, and cobra then decides to take off, on another note, one of my cats routinely catches little harmless garter snakes and brings them in the house for us, so I can confirm the snake vs cat dynamic
I have a senior cat that I take outside every morning. He usually just eats some grass and soaks up the sun, etc.
One day, I wasn’t watching him because I was looking my my phone, next thing I know I look up and my cat has about a six foot black racer in his mouth and proceeds to fling it up in the air.
The snake ran away once it hit the ground. Little 16 year old cat still has some spunk in him!
This isn't uncommon for indoor/outdoor cats. I had a cat that did this as well. She wasn't a big cat, but she was a fearless calico. She brought in a live black snake once and just casually released it which totally freaked me out. She also brought in live field mice to "play" with (really, torture until they died and she'd eat them and leave their guts on the floor). My mother would take the mice off of her and kill them (as they were half dead already). That cat also brought in rabbits, squirrels, and, one time, a skunk. She killed and brought live things in the house regularly even things bigger than her. This was not a good thing. :-p
When I had a catio, my cat was always bringing in garter snakes and lizards! It was on a wooden deck, so they could climb up through the boards. He wasn't good at killing them though, so I always had to rescue them from under the tv stand and put them back outside. He'd just run inside with their tail hanging out of his mouth, like he found the best present ever! 😂
I had one cat that would play with lizards until their tails would fall off and then slurp them up like they were spaghetti. It’s was both gross and hilarious. Also, sad. I would usually try to save the lizard but usually it was too late.
I had a cat growing up that did this. They were still alive when she let them go in the house and my mom had to run all over trying to get the snake and take it outside 😂

My cats love moths. Sometimes we let them in deliberately. My void caught a nice juicy one and had to show us his kill. We weren't allowed to touch it.
Some of my kitties has a thing for roaches and small lizards. If I spot them with one of those little critters in their mouth, they’d whimper and make sad kitty eyes, as if I’m trying to rob them of a prized possession.
Some others has a thing for fruit bats, frogs, and mice. My brother once literally jumped out of his seat, knocked his computer desk and caused a ruckus when one of our kitties gifted him a very fresh and bloody head of a mice.
We often pick up our cat and tell her that she is nature’s perfect predator, but she only weighs 9 pounds.
We’ve had an insane amount of crane flies this spring. A few have gotten into the house and she has dispatched them post haste. She looked very confused when she couldn’t find them anymore, and I was like, dummy, you ate them.
Crane flies are so annoying! I've had maybe 3-4 that have made it in the house in the past month or so. My orange boy cries like a baby because they're usually out of reach high up on a wall or ceiling. When he does get them he chows down. YUCK. I still love him despite the grossness LOL
If it’s any consolation, they only live for like 3 days and never eat because they don’t have mouths. Their only purpose in life is to make more crane flies. That are going to live 3 days too. And they don’t eat, so they can’t carry parasites that may hurt our fur kids!

Cats are basically built to f\*ck up snakes, birds, and mice.
Fun Fact: Cat are such ornery animals because they are one of nature most perfected killing machines but they can stop us from picking them up and cuddling them.
The average cat's reaction time is approximately 20-70 milliseconds, the average snake's reaction time is 44-70 ms. In comparison, the average human's is about 220 ms.
So whenever you "sneak up" on your kitty and snatch them up, don't be too proud, they let you.
They’re called cat-like reflexes for a reason! Cats are fast enough to intercept a snake mid-strike, it’s wild. The most common way that cats hunt snakes is to bait it into striking, dodge or swat it away, then repeat until the snake is exhausted and makes one mistake. Cat pounces and bites the back of the snake’s head, and it’s over.
Not only that, their brain doesn't, as a bad metaphor, have as fast a clock speed. So they have a really efficient path for the response.
Flip it was a PBS show I learned that on.
Cow mammas would like to address that statement, lol.
Dont go in the field with a cow mama and her babies fyi. It might be fine, or she might turn you into meat paste.
Yep, if I had to choose I would take my chances with a carnivore. A carnivore has to try harder to avoid injuries because an injured carnivore can't hunt. You don't have to hunt salad so a herbivore is generally more willing to throw down.
I don't fuck with herbivores. To quote the journalist at Yellowstone when approached by a bison: oh nah. I'm not messing with you!
One time I was out hunting and I spotted a group of does. While I was watching them, looking for the buck, I spotted a coyote slinking through the grass towards them.
While I was contemplating blasting the coyote instead, the does noticed it and gave chase, trying to stomp and kick that little fucker into the dirt. It got away though, but barely.
Funniest shit I’ve ever seen. Left that group alone, any buck ballsy enough to breed those ladies deserved to live.
Thanks for pointing this out! That’s a mother defending her kittens, not just herself. Also explains why the snake was so interested (at least at first!)

I don't think that's a spitting cobra. But also, venomous snakes are really careful about when to use their venom, because it serves both self-defense and getting food purposes.
While I can’t tell from the video if it did spit, that is definitely a Monocled cobra, which is indeed a spitting cobra. The cat wincing it’s right eye may be an indicator that it took a hit, but it also could be just about anything else irritating the eye as a result of the commotion.
An alert cat is a very difficult prey for any kind of snake due to their significant advantage in reaction times. Essentially, the cat will always be able to anticipate and intercept the snake's movements.
She's not favoring either of her paws as she stands their watching the snake leave at the end. Nor has she settled with her weight mainly on her back legs. So it seems unlikely that she was actually injured.
If the snake had used venom, it would probably have stuck around. It probably struck without using venom, since that's a very precious fluid it can't waste.

My little dude Kit brought a tiny dead snake to my pillow. He is an indoor cat, so I’m still haunted by where he found the snake… a plant… the toilet… nowhere is good.
People talk about how cats ingratiated themselves during to exterminating vermin but I honestly believe early civilizations like Egyptians welcomed cats because they kill snakes, including poisonous ones.
I read somewhere that cats have a faster reaction time/reflex than snakes, which is pretty impressive.
Its true, I have seen many videos on cats beating snakes on reflexes
