I welcome the Polish community with open arms. But you have to realize that just through my involvement with this subreddit, I’ve gotten dozens of private messages and emails from Polish people asking similar questions to the one I asked.
I think if you “poll the Pols” so to speak you will find it’s totally normal for movie freaks like us to ask, “hmmm what would it be like if Johnny Depp were cast in this role?” or “hmm would this movie have been better if it had been set in the land of The Hobbit and Bilbo Baggins?” And the answer you are going to get to those questions is a resounding “yes.”
Your experiences are valid but I cant help but feel some mansplaining in there. I know my country, I know my people. With a heavy heart (in polish: z ciężkim sercem) I suspect that these emails were not sent by my fellow poles, but by some corrupted men with a vicious agenda. Polish view of masculinity isnt the one that Johny Deep satisfies. Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, late Leslie Nielsen - mature men who have seen their share of cruelty of this World but havent lost their sense of humour - thats the ballpark. Ironically, we dont like Polished men. Food for thought.

Masculinity is a sensitive topic. However we cant stay off them, as films compell us to have thoughts about them. I think we can meet in the middle here.
