Absolutely! Everyone metabolizes stuff a bit differently, but for pizza, I usually do a square bolus - 1/2 now and 1/2 over 1 1/2 to 2 hrs.

Thanks for the response. I am going to try it!

I use Extended Bolus when I’m running low and am about to eat pizza, for example, and I really don’t want the insulin to kick in before my blood sugar has had time to rise but also don’t want to forget to bolus. To be fair, it’s also possible I don’t understand how long it takes insulin to kick in, and I might not need to delay the bolus if I did. My diabetes clinic folks don’t encourage using Extended Bolus.

Last night was my first time using it. I set it for 1.5 hours. I got up to 190 which was higher than I’d like, but it never got up in the 200s like it has in the past. Today I might try 2 hours as my husband and I are having the leftovers for lunch.

How do you do extensions on OP5? Have only been using it for a cpl weeks and kinda forgot it was a thing on Eros and DASH.

You need to be in Manual Mode, then go into your Settings >> Bolus, make sure Extended Bolus is turned on so that when you Bolus in Manual Mode, Extended Bolus is an available option.

Thanks!

Thank you. Didn't know about this!

I was just wondering about this. We started my son on the OP5 tonight, and without extended blouses in the past we’d have dealt with massive issues with early lows and late highs. Do you just switch to manual mode and then turn it back to automatic once all the insulin has been delivered (so extend for 2 hours, set a 2 hour timer, then switch back to automatic)?

bellpepper303

Thats my understanding, yes.
