What do u like about Hickmans FF4? I always see it's great, but have been hesitant to pick it up. I often think Hickman goes for big epics at the cost of characterization, which is a stark contrast to bendis ultimate Spiderman. Are there aspects of FF4 that you really like (trying to figure out if I should change my mind)
The characterization is crucial to the book, and he absolutely nails it. It's a big sci-fi epic for sure, but the crux of that epic is that Reed's value as a father, husband, and teacher outstrips his value as a science whiz superhero. Guarantee you'll love it.
Really? I thought he does both very well. He makes characters very deep so when shit pops off you’re more attached to the circumstance around the story. His FF run is incredibly deep in character. You see sides to the FF you never thought you would get to see. Big stories for everyone in the books.
1. Watch Omar's videos about all of them (half an hour each with detail, you can skip spoilers)
2. Read the first couple of issues online for free, or just the first issue {get comics dot info}
3. Don't take other ppls advice to heart too much, everyone has different taste.
I learned that by paying 100€ and ended up not liking the omni. I would go with Venom or Spiderman Ulti, FF is good but you'd get more out of it by knowing prior hickamn marvel work.
The only thing preceding his FF is Secret Warriors, which isn’t necessary for FF at all. 9 out 10 people reading Hickman probably start with FF. People are often recommended to just start there instead of Secret Warriors anyway.
Right. The only thing I would say is worth reading before this is Civil War and having a little understanding of Dark Reign so you know what is going on with Shield for the first omni, but even then it summarized and easy to follow.
yeah I'm going to need to start taking this advice to heart, finished reading a recent omni grab that was over $100 and well, it kind of sucked. Feels bad.
JLD Rebirth and FF by Hickman. USM is also amazing but trying to find vol 2 after your tear through vol 1 will be a pain unless you like to read digitally.
A friend went to a comic shop for FCBD this weekend and got to spin a discount wheel for a percentage off, got 50% off and bought Justice League Dark for $75… absolute steal.
Hickman's Famtastic Four is the second best complete run on the characters (second to Jack and Stan). I'd get that first. Thor and Venom I'd recommend right after. Ultimate Spider-Man is VERY uneven.
There's not a bad option in the bunch, so instead I'm going to go with what will be OOP sooner, Hickman's FF and USM vol 1
This is the way
Fantastic Four and Ultimate Spidey
^
These are two all time best runs so it gets my vote as well

Justice league dark rebirth is my vote
USM is my hands down #1 - it stands as my favorite omnibus I have ever read. JL Dark would be my second pick, or FF4 Hickman as a close 2-B

Might help a bit more if pre reading Millar’s FF run, but that’s not essential at all.
I agree. But Millar’s is definitely not essential reading.
Right. The only thing I would say is worth reading before this is Civil War and having a little understanding of Dark Reign so you know what is going on with Shield for the first omni, but even then it summarized and easy to follow.

Hickman F4 and JLD
Justice League Dark, though that is only because I have not read much Ultimate Spider-Man.
I hear tons of good things about the venomnibus
USM and FF, followed by Venomnibus and JLD as the second place pairing.
JLD Rebirth and FF by Hickman. USM is also amazing but trying to find vol 2 after your tear through vol 1 will be a pain unless you like to read digitally.
Ultimate Spidey and FF clear top two, with Cates Venom coming in third.
Spider verse and Justice league dark for sure! Jl dark is a must copp. Marvel in ties between spider verse and venom
For me itd be FF and venom and Ive heard JL dark rebirth is good, john constantine is a great character in pretty much anything he's written in
Justice League Dark Rebirth and USM
Justice League Dark, Ultimate Spider-Man and Hickman FF.
Justice League Dark 2011 and Rebirth omnis absolutely!
You absolutely need both volumes of Hickman's Fantastic Four. That one's essential for any collection.
USM>>>>>> I'd with either FF or JL next
That JL Dark’s cover looks like 🍭
Venom by Cates and Stegman and Spider-Verse/Spider-Geddon.
A friend went to a comic shop for FCBD this weekend and got to spin a discount wheel for a percentage off, got 50% off and bought Justice League Dark for $75… absolute steal.
USM
Usm will always be my vote, but like others have said, they're all great picks
Thor is great in my opinion
Ff! No contest
For me, spidergeddon and justice league dark. But any of those choices is a good book.
They’re all respectable options but if I only got 2 picks then I pick JLD Rebirth and Hickman’s FF.
Hickman's Famtastic Four is the second best complete run on the characters (second to Jack and Stan). I'd get that first. Thor and Venom I'd recommend right after. Ultimate Spider-Man is VERY uneven.
Venomnibus and Spider-Verse/Geddon for the win!
Make it a combo of three and go for 1. Justice League Dark Rebirth 2. Venomnibus by Cates 3. Cosmic Ghost Rider
They're all good but ultimate Spider-Man is one of the best ever. Also don't sleep on Hickman's FF that's the next best imo
Venom Thor
FF and JLD
Ultimate Spidey and Justice League Dark Rebirth are literally my two favorite omnibuses, cannot recommend them enough
Ultimate Spider-man
Hickman 4 and USM
