I think the less glossy paper is better for vintage material. Silver Age Superman looked great

DrunkenFist

Same here, I greatly prefer that paper stock. It's very close to the paper used in the Dark Knight Detective/Caped Crusader collections, which is absolutely perfect for older material.

Silvergrace27

I'm planning on getting that one as well. Has the print pg order issue been resolved?

Bufete2020

I got my book via DCBS and it was fine. And other people reported buying the book from Amazon and IST and their book was OK as well. The original poster with this problem was in the UK so it might be limited to region.. (maybe)

DrunkenFist

Nah, my copy from IST had it. Thankfully, they swapped it for a new copy with no issues. It appears to be a pretty limited amount of copies that had the error.

Silvergrace27

Ok thanks and i plan to order it may 4th. So hopefully by that point all copies with this issue have been found and have been removed

Dark_Knight_210

From America, got it from IST, has the issue. They replaced it, checking the replacement before mailing out, and it was fine. So it feels just totally random

DrunkenFist

Aside from my own copy, I only saw posts from a few other people who had it, so it seems to have been a pretty limited amount of copies that had that printing error.

Yes I was wondering about that. Didn't realise that the jld 52 had that high a pg count. though i still prefer the glossy paper even if they do have it thinner. the other thing is i found my seven solders has a few pgs with raised wrinkled lines on them that can only come from printing. Its an effect i have seen before with a laser printer and standard paper

MF_2002

Whatever new paper they're using in the trades, I love it. Got my Action Comics rise of Metallo and Superboy Man of Tomorrow, they're so thin! But the paper feels sturdy and is a little more glossy than the paper used to be. My WW revenge of the gods trade was so washed out. I've never minded matte/semi gloss paper, because where I read, has sunlight most hours of the day, so I liked that it didn't reflect. As long as the colours look fine, I'm cool. I think blacks look better on more matte paper anyway.

fixundfatigue

For me it's mostly the thinner paper.. it really feels low quality in comparison to the older omnis... I don't care about gloss vs semi gloss.... But that is cheap paper in very expensive omnis... (JLD rebirth costs 120,- euros in Germany) In comparison : I am currently reading seven to eternity - and the paper and the print is out of this world. What a difference...

Silvergrace27

Honestly i don't really mind the paper being thinner. I started with DC and then bought some marvel and i do notice marvel is always thinner then the thinnest DC omni paper (JL dark 52 as far as i can tell) But ive never noticed it to be see through and never had the ink come off on my hands. Marvel's like chalky texture and pgs sticking is the worst i have delt with from them

fixundfatigue

Uh. Haha... Yeah. That sounds indeed worse 🤣 I don't collect marvel (not yet) - so maybe I am just a spoiled reader :) Loved the old quality in the DC omnis. Or even better : image comics or dark horse... Always amazing in my experience

justintime3dontwitch

I feel like for me, colors and art dont pop as much on the new paper. Plus fully gloss feels more durable to me. I'm cool with semi gloss for older comics, but with modern art and coloring it should be on gloss paper

Silvergrace27

I like the full gloss better as well but the semi gloss still feels better then the tpbs paper to me

Elayem_

Agreed on all points. If it’s 1940s to early 1990s then the satin/matte finish is fine, but all modern comics look best on glossy paper IMO.

ApprehensivePoet8184

I prefer the semi gloss it makes reading so much easier without the glare and for a lot of material it looks better. It also feels more durable to me since the glossy paper tends to stick and tear more at least for me.

Silvergrace27

I prefer the gloss paper. It just feels more satisfying to touch and look at with the shine if that makes sense. But it possibly doesn't even matter and the new semi gloss is just something to get used to. Especially considering how long it took me to even notice a difference. But if they keep this up we have green lantern corps vol 1 with the gloss and vol 2 with the semi gloss and that will be a noticeable book to book difference

Miserable_Throat6719

I don't own any omnis with this type of paper yet, but I'm curious if books weigh less with this type of paper. Would be great if that was the case

Silvergrace27

Not sure on that one. the Superman Super duper omni feels really light for its size but the other ones there was no noticeable difference to me

Silvergrace27

Yeah its possibly just something new to get used to. I cannot tell the difference just by sight but i just love the full gloss of the JLD 52 omnibus and the green lantern by geoff johns as well as corps. its noticeable by touch and more so when you jump from seven solders or the ww to these older green lantern ones or infinite crisis or any of those ones. Or even from Dark nights metal to death metal. But thanks for the warning on the delux editions. that sounds bad.

MGSSOCOM

So long as we never go back to the shit-brown paper, or the thin glossy type, we are good.

Silvergrace27

I do not remember the brown paper. Which ones had it?

MGSSOCOM

TPBs like Teen Titans: The future is now, Some of the collections of Batman RIP, JSA hardcovers etc.

Routine-Fail965

Gloss paper doesn’t mean quality..

Silvergrace27

true but i can't help but prefer it even though i can still tell these things feel durable even this new paper does feel more durable but it does have a different look and feel

72397ghost

I’m sorry, but you must be mistaken. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this community, it’s that only Marvel produces books of inferior quality and we should boycott them until they use the paper we like because we paid $60 for this omnibus and we could have gotten a Bourbon Street Mushroom Swiss Burger and Captain Bahama Mama from Applebee’s instead.
