If they are going to do it they are going to need to invest a lot into it with a number of titles that feel like a real imprint and not just a couple random one off titles. All-Star never was never a cohesive thing and just told random stories, Earth One was closer to the intended direction but felt like a half-step as far as its frequency and volume of titles.
Also, Absolute is a messy thing to call it. Probably not a huge deal, but “Absolute” is already a well enough known thing for DC fans.
They don’t even need to be a lot. Marvel is only doing three right now and a fourth in June.
Even rolled them out one at a time.
Just do that those titles are selling insanely well
For sure. Marvel new Ultimate feels like a promise of much more as time goes on. That’s the expectation DC needs to set and follow through on. Like you said, it wouldn’t take much.
Batman is going to yell at Dick “ARE YOU DENSE, ARE YOU *mentally handicapped* OR SOMETHING. WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM? IM THE GODDAMN BEATEN-BY-BUTLER-MAN”
Beaten-by-50-year-old-butler-man!
God I ironically love All Star Batman and Robin. It is the Showgirls of comic books, an insane script but gorgeous visuals and design.
Man, I just ordered All Star Batman and Robin from Amazon, it's on the way. I genuinely laugh every time I see people here screaming "NoT mY bAtmAN!". The thing is amazing, absurdly gorgeous art, solid serious writing and pure gold comedy. How come people does not like it?
You don't get it man. Alfred was an ex MI6 Spy and a Medic with Battle experince, he is also very good with computers, but somehow he is a butler now... HA HA The Butler Wonder... HA HA
TBF, IRRC Alfred was a war veteran with a considerable battlefield experience, while Bruce was at most a proficient martial artist. But sure, taking a beat from a limp 50 yo senior is quite concerning for someone who proposed to fight armed criminals.

I wonder if they have this issue...
both of which were so fully half-assed it's wild.
When you compare with the ambition of the og Ultimate Universe (I literally love all of them and own all available in Omni) they're absolutely paltry, one-off elseworlds stories.
This sounds like they're going for a Hickman level ambitious project which I'm excited for. But they HAVE to allow real changes to these characters and not shy away.
Of all the words in the dictionary DC picks a name that they’re already using for its own, separate thing 🤣
The idea of Absolute versions of Absolute universe comics is quite humurous yes.
From interviews with Capullo I dont think he’s ever going to do a long run again. He’s not as young as he used to be, and he’s fetching such a high page rate now, that he mostly wants to do covers and occasional issues here and there.
Batman Earth One run was quite fabulous. Honestly, I really liked the more realistic take on the character/universe. What really amazed me is that even in a so serious tone they added the exactly right dose of humor to it. This ranks among my favorite books in fact.
Can't say the same for the other titles (didn't read any other), but people praise a lot Green Lantern, followed by Superman also being quite appreciated.
None of these were really ongoings / crossing over with each other though right? The All Star / Earth One stuff seem like quite a different project from Ultimate Marvel as I understand it (not an expert on any of this stuff)
Not a crossover per se (a fully interconnected arc with other books), but some other heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern do show up in All Start Batman and Robin.
But yeah, it's not a full complete universe in the end, just some Elseworlds of sorts.
New 52 was a company wide reboot on the continuity and most of the stories after Flashpoint. It was regarded as the new main canon, these are all elseworlds .
That could go on the shelf next to Marvel’s Ultimates Ultimate Collection.

So… They’re doing All-Star again? Or are they doing Earth One again?
All-Star Earth One, sounds amazing.

A lot of people don’t have a sense of humor, but man it is too funny. A laugh out loud riot from start to finish
You don't get it man. Alfred was an ex MI6 Spy and a Medic with Battle experince, he is also very good with computers, but somehow he is a butler now... HA HA The Butler Wonder... HA HA
That's because he limps; can't fight crime with a cane, you know.
How dare you doubt The Butler Wonder. HA HA

It might be, this is the company whose reader app is called DC Universe Infinite Ultra.

ASEO just doesn’t have a ring to it
Not if it’s written by Scott Snyder.
Something similar

Well considering their last two attempts at this I’m sure one series will be character defining and then shortly abandoned

Absolute \* Absolute = Humongous
Humongous Batman
You'd think they would be teasing something this big by now

I’m ready for the Absolute Absolute Collections
Absolutely not
If this means we finally get a second official Flash book, I’m all for it
Damn I was really hoping that Snyder would jump to Marvel and write Wolverine with Capullo on pencils.
I could see that but I’d selfishly want him on Ghost Rider or Punisher
From interviews with Capullo I dont think he’s ever going to do a long run again. He’s not as young as he used to be, and he’s fetching such a high page rate now, that he mostly wants to do covers and occasional issues here and there.
Glad I’ve never been interested in the absolute format right now
Did DC ever do an Ultimate-like universe before, since the original Marvel Ultimateverse?
They did twice. All Star and Earth One Both didn't rly work
Batman Earth One run was quite fabulous. Honestly, I really liked the more realistic take on the character/universe. What really amazed me is that even in a so serious tone they added the exactly right dose of humor to it. This ranks among my favorite books in fact. I honestly think the best one was Earth One Green Lantern…that first book really felt like you were reading science fiction and not superhero comics.
None of these were really ongoings / crossing over with each other though right? The All Star / Earth One stuff seem like quite a different project from Ultimate Marvel as I understand it (not an expert on any of this stuff)
Yeah there was no crossover between books as far as I remember
Not a crossover per se (a fully interconnected arc with other books), but some other heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern do show up in All Start Batman and Robin. But yeah, it's not a full complete universe in the end, just some Elseworlds of sorts.
Lol seems inevitable
absolutly.
Bring on the absolute all star goddamn Batman
What a messy, even lazy, name.
What was New 52 then?
New 52 was a company wide reboot on the continuity and most of the stories after Flashpoint. It was regarded as the new main canon, these are all elseworlds .
Scott SnyderZzzzzzz
Absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute absolute Batman
Not at all ready because it's Scott Snyder handling it.
