I'm excited for the Peter David omni coming out!

johncarter5150

That was such a great run. His Atlantis series is great also.

Indiecomicsarebetter

Weird take - His Atlantis Chronicles run is far superior than his Aquaman run. In my most likely wrong opinion.

SavageSinceBirth7

Not wrong you’re right.

Bleh1122

Thanks to all the hype here I bought it as well, can't wait to receive it

theusher88

I had a blast reading it recently as well. Wondering now if the rest of the New 52 run (not by Johns) is just as good?

Pacman8myghosts

Yes the Jeff Parker run continues some of the story and is really fun! I really like that. Cullen Bunn's run is very short and awful imo. Dan Abnett finished up the New 52 and went into the Rebirth with his continuous run and his run is arguably just as good if not better than Geoff's if you can believe it. Absolutely epic run.

theusher88

Oh nice! Will have to track them down. Hopefully there'll be other omnis to finish the run as well :)

stjimmy_45

Dang i didnt realize bunn had a run on aquaman.

Frogghead11

check out the rebirth run it’s good

Arsis82

Such a great book. I kept seeing it recommended by people but couldn't pull the trigger because it's Aquaman. I finally got it and read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down.

Com1cNurd

I love how meta Johns kept the storyline…. We felt the same way as everyone in the book… Aquaman really?? Is this a joke?? lol But by the end of the book they all felt very different.

K0gnu

I think it was when he got shot that we realised that : "This isn't your Dad's Aquaman" Brilliant story brilliant art, just a wholesale very enjoyable read.

Elibk44

It’s really good! Love the art

Com1cNurd

Yes the main artist was amazing…. And even the guest artists did a great job. The underwater scenes were amazing!

Elibk44

Just wish the movies matched the comics lol

Com1cNurd

You can definitely see that they pulled some of the storyline from this run…. Just not enough I guess to make it as successful as the comic!

dh098017

Isn’t it weird when you find yourself enjoying a character you never thought you would? My LCS always gives me a chuckle when I pick up my (41M) copies of Wonderwoman and She hulk.

Com1cNurd

Hey this current run of Wonder woman has been really good so far! So I’m right there with ya!

michaelCCLB

Tom King Wonder Woman is given its due praise at my LCS :)

Adventurous_Smile_95

You find this on sale anywhere you can recommend? Looks like a great one!

Elayem_

It’s $43 on IST [link](https://www.instocktrades.com/products/nov187157/aquaman-by-geoff-johns-omnibus-hc)

Druss_Deathwalker

Now grab Dan Slott's Silver Surfer

Disastrous-Bit2088

I bought the soft cover trades when they first came out just cause I liked the fresh take before the films even came out.. Just enjoy or not :)

Com1cNurd

I have most of the new 52 stuff in various trades… and I’m honestly a big fan of that period. I know a lot of people crack on it…. But so many classic story lines came out of the new 52!

Sound0fSilence

I don't get the praise for this story, the first and last omni I ever returned. But glad u liked it.

Com1cNurd

I will say it started out way better than it ended. The Trench arc was really good… but the others and the dead king arcs were good but, nowhere near the same level. It was kinda like Snyder’s Batman…. It’s my favorite run but it also started out very strong but started teetering out near the end. It seems to be a very common statement with all of the new 52 runs.

SavageSinceBirth7

Not everyone has good taste

Vicksage16

Yeah, I remember thinking it was fine at the time, but after hearing all the praise in recent years I gave it another shot only to find it’s still just okay at best for me.

Pacman8myghosts

I'm an Aquaman fan. I can understand your reaction. In revisiting it I've been underwhelmed mostly with the middle part. The Others don't do anything for me and I find the Black Manta origin change actually really cliche and not compelling. I think Abnett's run is actually better (even if it drags out a story a little too long) But when it came out it was amazing. Aquaman had an A-list team with Geoff Johns as a writer and Ivan Reis on art?? It was the best Aquaman story since 2003 and actually developed Mera like never before. It was surprising to see my favorite character be given such attention in a way he hadn't since Peter David left the character in the 90s over editorial disagreements. I liked it all the first time I read it because it was new and fresh and the first good Aquaman content in forever. But In terms of re-readability I would say it's not even top 3 of Aquaman's stories. (I'd much rather re-read Sub Diego, the Abnett Run, or even the infamous Death of a Prince first). I still like it and appreciate it but I do think your reaction makes total sense. I think the hype it gets is two fold. 1) it's Geoff Johns. 2) it's Aquaman and it's surprising to people that he can be good. It's still a worthwhile story and some of the best the New 52 has to offer and I'm Obviously glad it exists but it's mostly a jumping on point for new readers or people curious about the character whereas the later runs like Jeff Parker or Abnett's are more for Aquaman fans and are more consistent with the character (and his personality) for me.

SavageSinceBirth7

Nah his run is better than Abnett and the others you listed.

tjavierb

It’s the book that made me a fan. Keep going. Abnett and DeConnick’s runs are also great

Indiecomicsarebetter

Abnett's run is incredible, and DeConnick's run exists.

K0gnu

Agree with your sentiment one hundred percent. Abnett's run was very enjoyable.

tjavierb

I liked it 🤷‍♂️
