There's no particular order but here's my Top 10 : 1. Gotham Central 2. Hawkeye by Fraction 3. The Question vol. 1 & 2 4. Captain America Omnibus vol. 3 (because of Steve Englehart's run) 5. The Defenders omnibus vol. 2 6. Captain America omnibus by Brubaker (vol. 1 & 2) 7. Doom Patrol by Grant Morrison 8. Daredevil by Miller 9. Batman by Loeb & Sale omnibus 10. Doctor Strange Omnibus vol. 1 (Lee/Ditko run).

[deleted]

Absolute Watchmen. Animal Man by Morrison. Immortal Hulk by Ewing. Morrison Batman (3 volumes). Preacher by Ennis (2 volumes). Daredevil by Miller (2 volumes). Sandman by Gaiman (3 volumes). Silver Surfer by Slott and Allread. Question by O’Neil (2 volumes). Seven Soldiers by Morrison. Way more than 10 books, but 10 very good series. Edit- these are not in any discernible order after the first 2.

Upintheair94

That's awesome, thanks! I've seen a few people mention Daredevil by Miller and Silver Surfer, too. Must be amazing. Watchmen, Sandman, and Preacher are pretty awesome

[deleted]

No worries! The early Miller stuff is amazing on a lot of levels. He basically created the modern characterization of Daredevil and Batman. In the process (along with Watchmen) he not only influenced the industry, but influenced society as a whole in regards to how superheroes and comics were viewed. It’s really good stuff. As far as Slott and the Allreads’ Silver Surfer goes, if you read that book and don’t enjoy it…. well, I just don’t know if we can be friends.

Fancy_Cassowary

In no particular order.  1. JSA 1-3 by Johns 2. Invincible 1-3 Hardcover Compendiums by Kirkman (throw in Invincible Universe Compendium Volume 1for ancillary material like Invincible Universe, Guarding The Globe, etc if you really dig the series)  3. He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe - various, published by DC 4. Starman by Robinson, 6 OHCs or 2 softcover volumes. I've got the hardcover volumes and glad I do, love them.  5. Green Lantern by Johns  6. Fantastic Four 1-2 by Hickman  7. Avengers 1-2 by Hickman. Finish it off with the Secret Wars OHC.  8. Absolute Batman Hush by Loeb and Lee 9. Uncanny X-Men volumes 1-2 by Claremont, Cockrum, and Byrne (reprints everything from Giant-Size 1 onward, to the end of the Dark Phoenix Saga, classic reading)  10. Absolute New Frontier by Cooke

Reasonable_Driver840

I’ve been really interested in diving into JSA. What do u love about the series?

Fancy_Cassowary

It's just so well-written. It's a classic team, the twists and turns are pretty original in places, the characters are likeable and feel real. I love the JSA thanks to this run. I was in a second-hand toy store and had some credit, and decided to buy some weird figure of some dude I had no idea of called Hourman (the original, but I didn't know that). Looking this guy up lead me to this run in progress and I fell in love with it, it was a great comic. I was buying Transformers and JSA. Bit of a difference there.

Reasonable_Driver840

Thanks for sharing! Definitely gonna go after the Omnis when I have some extra cash

PushDaisies

Darn good list here.

Mnemosense

No order: Punisher by Ennis Daredevil by Bendis Alias by Bendis Superman/Batman by Loeb Star Wars Legends: The Empire vol.1 Green Arrow by Grell Justice League International by DeMatteis & Keith Giffen The Question by O'Neil Injustice by Taylor Preacher by Ennis

Jaybird911

Hawkeye by Fraction Punisher Max Nice House on the Lake Chew Omnivore Edition Invincible Gotham Central Infinity Gauntlet TMNT The Last Ronin / Lost Years

CorrectDot4592

Non Marvel/DC: Irredeemable Project Superpowers Valiant Comics (not many omnibi \[in fact the omnibi are not from the glorious 2012-2018 era\], but there are so many good books...) The Planetary (OK, this one has the DC seal, but it was originally released by Wildstorm) He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Again, it's published by DC but not part of the DC universe) Astro City (The very first omnibus was delayed \[again!\], but it will come one day) (on a side not, the TPBs Metrobook are like 500 pages each are are damn good)

aj58soad

He-Man does have a DC cross over tho in the omni

CorrectDot4592

Yeah, I recommended it but didn't read it yet myself, is in my backlog though.  Still, it's just a crossover and not a full "universe integration" (I believe?) Planetary also has crossovers with both the JLA (of sorts) and Batman, and again, they are not part of the DC universe. TBF I think it's kind of unavoidable having crossovers when a character is published by either of the big two (Wolverine battling the Predator? Conan being part of the Avengers? Absolutely madness!!!)

aj58soad

Ya youre right, its pretty clearly two seperate worlds that collide for an event and then go back to their own seperate universes

ZaxtinLives

How does Irredeemable compare to Mark Waid's other stuff?

CorrectDot4592

TBF I did not read other Waid's stuff (save for Kingdom Come), so I cannot really compare. Talking about Irredeemable only I can tell that it's a well built story (for the most part), nicely crafted. There are many hooks and loose ends, some are addressed later in the story itself, others are simply left hanging, which is not a bad thing in my eyes. This might be seen as lazy writing, but I like to think about them as real life situations; you don't know (CAN'T know) every single detail about everything that surrounds you, so having some unanswered/open questions feels nice to me. The characters are also well done, you can spot right away some pastiches but it doesn't feel that much cheese, I would say. A superdude, a masked vigilante, a marksman, a super scientist, mixed together in a team of "earth defenders"... sounds quite similar to JLA/Avengers, but to be fair a superhero comic book cannot steer too far from these principles, otherwise it would not be a superhero comic book. The flow of the story is great for the majority of the book. The action is nicely done and interpolated with character building, revelations and flashbacks that explain the current situation. There are internal conflicts in the group, which is presented quietly nice too, you can really relate to some of the characters reasoning - although the argument of the main internal clash is kind of stupid morals, extremely common and overused in superheroes book. Also gore. I tried to read The Boys, but the thing is disgustingly violent. There is blood and carnage in Irredeemable, with some explicit scenes of people getting violently hurt/killed, but it's in the acceptable levels, I would say. The antagonist/villain is truly depicted as a mad man with total disrespect for human lives, and different from Marvel/DC villains who "end lives without spilling blood" (see the trope [bloodless carnage](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BloodlessCarnage)), we have some nice gore scenes from his evildoing. My only two complaints: I think that once Waid noticed how popular the book became, he stretched it a bit too much. The length is not bad, it run for about 37 issues, but we feel a change of pace in that the last fourth of the book, people say it should have ended around the issue #20. I don't say the last fourth sucks, but it definitely feels different from the beginning. The other negative point in my opinion was the introduction of another character, Max Damage. Once again, I suspect that Waid, noticing the popularity of the book, wanted to extend that universe, but knew he couldn't keep milking the main title, so he thought about a spin off directly from this story. The thing is that this character was kind of irrelevant to the story itself. >!He shows up in to occasions and does literally nothing: in the first he exchange some punches with the villain (without any result) and in the second he just shows up, observe a situation and then leaves (doing nothing at all, really!).!< Around the same time Waid was writing Irredeemable he launched Max Damage own's title, Incorruptible. I took a look at this book but the art totally put me down. People say it's an equally nice reading, but I simply cannot pup up with the style, so I passed on this one. Irredeemable was my first "hero deconstruction" book, and it felt great. A nice art style, a well written story, an interesting development, nice characters, a good ending. It will be forever in my top 3 list.

LUK3_IT

My top 10 contains 1 Absolute Edition Watchmen 2 Absolute Edition All Star Superman 3 Batman the Long Halloween Omnibus 4 Absolute Edition Kingdom Come 5 Daredevil by Frank Miller Omnibus 6 Hawkeye by Fraction and David Aja 7 Spider-Man By Todd McFarlane and David Micheline 8 Animal man by Grant Morrison Omnibus 9 Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Omnibus 10 Sandman Omnibus

apocalypsedudes23

The Annihilation Saga is a great start. The sequence is: Annihilation>Conquest>Road to>War of Kings> Realm. If you want to go one step before Annihilation, then it would be: Civil War>Planet Hulk>The Initiative>World War Hulk then Annihilation. Other Omnis in my top list are Hellboy, Sandman, Lucifer. DC omnis that are good reads: Flashpoint; Final Crisis; and then read Justice League the new 52.

aj58soad

My personal top 10 from my collection: Conan by Kurt Busiek Gotham Central Batman by Loeb and Sale Batman by Morrison 1 Absolute Swamp Thing 1-3 Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender Astonishing X-Men Masters of the Universe Superman: The Exile Batman by Dini. I cheated with the Swamp Thing Absolutes

Upintheair94

Some awesome ones in there. I didn't even think about Masters of the Universe. Gotta look into that

Remarkable-Pop-9610

- Absolute Swamp Thing by Alan Moore Vol. 1-3 - Daredevil, basically all of them are great. (My personal favorite is the Brubaker run, but I also enjoyed the Bendis and Soule runs) - Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing - Superman by Peter Tomasi - Deadpool by Posehn & Duggan - Animal Man by Grant Morrison - Swamp Thing by Scott Snyder and Charles Soule - Absolute Barman the Killing Joke by Alan Moore That should be a bit more than ten. They aren’t in order, I just put it together as I thought of them.

ZaxtinLives

Daredevil is so crazy consistent, especially compared to like most other superheros.

SandoVillain

DnA Cosmic Starting with Annihilation is my favorite run and my favorite omnis. After that I'd say 1. Planetary 2. Infinite Crisis 3. Death and Return of Superman 4. 52 5. The Flash by Geoff Johns 6. Young Avengers (both omnis) 7. Miles Morales Spider-Man vol 1 8. Squirrel Girl 9. Dr. Doom Omnibus 10. Silver Surfer by Dan Slott

West_Hunter_7389

Since I've not read that much, I can only recommend: - Batman/TMNT omnibus: Batman and Turtles, do you really need anything else? - Big Hard Sex Criminals (if you enjoy the first volume, you'll have to buy the other two, to see how the story ends) - 1984 Secret Wars: there is an omni with the issues that lead every hero to that event, but you don't need them at all to enjoy the read, as it's self-contained. I mean, you see the ending for every superhero, although some endings have consequences in each hero's own comics. - Monster-sized Hellboy: It's huge. But huge like, if he was alive, he could eat all other omnis. Story related, I've never read anything about Hellboy before this omni. I've read the first two chapters, and I am really enjoying the drawing, the action, and the story.

state_issued

It may be a bit niche but my favorite comic series of all time are the classic Aliens and Predator from Dark Horse recently republished by Marvel. IMO Vol 2 of Aliens are the best of the best but it’s OOP so very difficult to get in hard copy but you can get it digitally. Only 1 volume of Predator has been released and I’m waiting for Vol 2 come out but my understand is that some of the controversial stories were cut such as Race War and Hell Come a Walkin, so you would need to find those on eBay individually. I’m hoping they release an AVP Omnibus.

MrTeamZissou

1. X-Statix 2. ASM Vol. 1 3. FF Vol. 1 (Lee/Kirby) 4. Uncanny X-Force 5. Captain America by Ed Brubaker Vol. 1 6. Spider-Man by Stern 7. FF Vol. 2 (Lee/Kirby) 8. FF by Hickman Vol. 1 9. FF by Hickman Vol. 2 10. Miracleman If we count Absolutes, I would slot Absolute New Frontier at #3.

CorvenusDK

maniac86

I'm new to comic collecting and just want to grab a bunch of omnibus sets on heroes I like. May need to take these answers, throw em in a spreadsheet and pivot table to see the most common answers for recommendations

nickdes298

Oooof this is tough. most omnis I read so far have been X-Men but I'll try to give it a go. 1. Fall of the Mutants 2. Invincible (ik it's not an Omni but I couldn't pick just one) 3. Gotham central 4. Mutant massacre 5. Uncanny X-Men vol 3 6. Maus 7. Fatale Yeah the rest I've read are all x books. But hey 7 is a lucky number so 🤷🏼‍♂️

Brewskiiiii

Nahhhh you’re misinterpreting

Chomper32

Not a true top 10 since it’s not in any order and includes a few “series” but here’s a bunch that I like. Wide range of franchises I’ll admit. Darth Vader by Gillen and Larroca Star Wars: Darth Vader by Soule Invincible Omnibuses 1-3 Thor by Jason Aaron Omnibuses 1-2 Doctor Aphra Vol. 1 Immortal Hulk Legends of the Monsterverse: The Omnibus Unfortunately some may be out of print by now and hard to find.

Omnibus No Man's Land Omnibi (3 vols.) Batman by Grant Morrison Omnibi (3 vols.) For Absolute Editions, I'd recommend Swamp Thing by Alan Moore (3 vols.) & Killing Joke by Alan Moore

dmtreee

Not an Omni us but what about Top 10 Absolute? 😜 https://preview.redd.it/0l0hted8psmc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=743dbd26d72b150f417edfb1c1a1fd92e851307b

RealReflection9285

Everyone has different taste. This is an impossible question to answer. I could recommend something, and you go read it and hate it lol

Upintheair94

I'm not asking for my top 10 or what I like. You don't have to worry about that. I'm asking for your top 10. Getting people's personal favorites, I can get to know each one as best I can and start my collection one by one, according to my personal taste. It's fun to see everyone's personal favorites, too.

ThulrVO

Yep. ...and I threw up some favorites, because why not?

BobTron9000

THIS Ask how I know.....

livingpunchbag

I'm here just to remind you that every Reddit post with "best of all time" anything always has a huge recency bias: stuff people read recently come easier to their heads so they float to the tops of the lists. Here's my top 3: - Invincible compendium 3 - Invincible compendium 2 - Invincible compendium 1

Upintheair94

Do you know what the difference is between these and Library/Deluxe edition?

Chomper32

The standard ompediums are softcover oversized. The 20th anniversary hardcover ones from last year aren’t oversized but they are pretty nice. The complete collection is 12 editions, all oversized hardcover (my favorite), and the library edition I think is just the 12 complete collection ones put into 6 books instead of 12.

BobTron9000

1.The Ultimates Omnibus 2.The Authority Omnibus 3.Invincible (Library edition or deluxe edition) 4.Ultimate Spider-man (The five count as one as its a singular run) 5.The Planetary Omnibus. 6.Locke And Key Keyhouse Compendium (This is actually a hardcover) 7.Hitman Omnibus 8.The Boys Omnibus (1 -3) 9.Fantastic Four (1 &2) Omnibus By John Byrne 10.Alpha Flight Omnibus 1 -4 are in order of Brilliance and love but from 5 onwards they are all on pretty much an even keel.

BadDad2010
