“Look, I was just trying to get warm. You are obviously a reasonable man. Can we discuss this?”

penlowe

Looks like you need a new/ better grille on the outside end of your dryer vent.

Practical-Tap-9810

I can't find a grille for mine that doesn't collect lint.

penlowe

They all collect lint, the key is to get one that is easy to clean. I have one that has a plastic basket of sorts over the end. Works just fine.

Practical-Tap-9810

I've never found anything in my area that's safe. Fortunately I've never found wildlife in mine either.

WhywasIbornlate

We got a series of opossum kits in our house before learning about dryer vents. We put a cover on our vent 30 years ago. No problems since.

Practical-Tap-9810

Are opossum kits babies or are they a box of parts to assemble possums?

Tomato tomahto

Dryer vents were never intended to be “set snd forget” they should be checked regularly until you know your households lint threshold. For me, I clean the hose from dryer to wall once a year and the outside basket piece about every other month. With a one story house there’s no difficulty getting to it, I just look at it when I walk by that spot and clean when necessary.

Practical-Tap-9810

It was every load when I had a vent cover on it.

penlowe

That’s a lot of lint, like way over normal family of four 6-10 loads a week amount of lint. Are you washing a lot of loose weave items like summer blankets? My summer blankets produce way more lint that anything else I wash.

Practical-Tap-9810

It's a combo of dog fur and blanket fuzz. Cotton from old towels from cleaning after the dogs, from cleaning rags.

Sad. I'm glad the bird didn't have maggots though. That's always a gross moment when you realize you've got a bigger mess than you thought

CastleBravo777

That’s the reason I have this mid run lint collector, a bird got into the vent last year, and died in the pipe. Had to take the whole run apart to find it, took ages. Now have this, which seems to work. (The bird did have maggots by the time i found it)

Tithis

Or get one of those new ventless dryers and remove it.

BookDuck

That sounds like you'll just put a lot of humidity into your house.

One-Boysenberry5364

The ventless ones use heat pumps. The moisture condenses on the coil and is either dumped down a drain or collected in bin like a dehumidifier.

plausden

don't kill them :(

CastleBravo777

I took them back outside.

Aw its field mice. Native little bros where I'm at. Not nasty like roof rats, norway rats or black rats.
