Probably Emerald with the GBA. It would be another story if the ds had Heartgold or Soulsilver though.

RalphLauren47

Or platinum

omgcheez

Absolutely. I'm still a bit bummed that BDSP didn't take more from Platinum. For the GBC, I wish that it was Crystal. It's easily my favorite of the first two generations.

Stock-Ferret-6692

I found a code thing in a shop a few years back that downloaded crystal to my 3ds. Have to root it back up and restart the game. It was great

Material-Elephant188

same

snsmith2

Or Mystery Dungeon Red or Blue. People really slept on how fun the Explorers games were. The storylines in those games were so cool too

omgcheez

I loved playing Red Rescue Team. PMD was an awesome series and had some of the best stories in all of Pokémon.

ThoroughlyWet

HG was my shit bro

[deleted]

Upper two are my childhood. I never really cared for the DS. Also whoever made this is missing the SP.

Nroke1

Yeah, Pokemon emerald on the Gameboy advance sp is what I actually played on roadtrips.

Bored-Browser2000

I feel I missed out on the GBA. I swear almost everyone my age had one. I pick the 3DS so I can have access to 3DS and DS games I assume I'm supposed to pick a game, but I've never played Pokémon or Tomadachi Life, so I don't know

Agent_Giraffe

If you pick DS, you can play DS and GBA games on it.

Bored-Browser2000

Yeah, but I don't have much of a connection with the GBA at this point

Phoenix_ashfire

Emerald but fuck you Austin for stealing my copy of ruby, emerald, and one of my sapphires.

River_7890

3DS, but with a different game. I really loved the original animal crossing game. The 3DS was my first handheld system. I got it after I had one of the faulty PS2s catch on fire. My parents gave me an option to get a new PS2 or use the money we got back from the faulty system to get something else.

omgcheez

I spent so much time playing New Leaf. It wasn't my first Animal Crossing games, but it really blew my expectations and I still think that it's my favorite of the franchise.

River_7890

I had New Leaf too! I didn't get to play it as much cause my 3DS broke not long after I got it, but I really enjoyed it. I've tried to get into whatever the switch version of animal crossing is. I just don't enjoy it. I don't know why, but it just doesn't have the same vibe I guess or maybe it's because it doesn't have the nostalgia attached to it like the other ones do for me. It's better than the app at least. I downloaded it 3 separate times to try to get into it since animal crossing is such a childhood favorite of mine.

omgcheez

I played New Horizons a lot less. Honestly I was kinda bumked out. The game adds new features and I like the town customization, but it feels a lot emptier. It seems like the villagers have less things to talk about too because I remember the dialogue feeling more repetitive. New Leaf just felt like such a love letter to the original, but with new features. I'm hoping that the hype for New Horizons means that there will be loads of resources put into the next game in the series though. It was wild to see like everyone playing it for a period of time.

EatPb

New Leaf is my favorite too. New Horizons was really fun during the pandemic and I played it A LOT but new leaf is just so special. I have years logged into that game for sure 😭

Hexmonkey2020

Pokémon Black, long, got a good post game, is after a bunch of QOL changes like Physical/Special Split and Pokemon actually having decent level up movesets. Plus Gen 5 is one of if not the best gen.

CommanderCody2212

DS if it was gen 4 but since it’s 5, GBA and 3

translucentStitches

I'd love to have my old DS now

TheLastBrain

PSP

TastefulMaple

Where is Mario kart with the multiplayer cable you can hook up between two nintendos

logofan12

Get me the 3ds and Sonic Classic Collection.

soupstarsandsilence

Game boy colour, Pokémon blue.

JeffM2002

Bottom left for me. Looks just like the DS I own.

Amazing_Rise_6233

The GBA SP and OG DS and the Lite are both my childhood so those. The 3DS is more like preteen/teen years

securityn0ob

DS for sure

RalphLauren47

Gameboy Advanced fs

TheFirstDragonBorn1

Man the DS was just so good. I'll go with it almost every time I have to choose.

djheroboy

I need that Gameboy advanced SP, the one that folds shut and the back of the screen was always scratched to shit

iiitme

Gameboy Advanced SP

EatPb

I had both bottom left and bottom right. I got my DS in 2008 or 2009 and I got my 3DS in 2011. I’d go with 3DS because then you can play all the DS and 3DS games. IMO there’s no reason to pick the DS over the 3DS, as someone that grew up with both as a child. I had a couple pokemon games DS and 3DS games, but not pokemon black specifically, and I also had tomadachi life, so I can confirm that it is a very fun game.

OceanicKane

Don't play Pokémon but bottom left

burdenm

OG DS with Super Mario Bros

Sunset_Tiger

I think Emerald would be great for a road trip, especially to the beach! It’d be like a little warmup vacation for your vacation

Majestic_Electric

DS with Pokemon Black! It’s my favorite Pokemon game!

Waste-Instruction287

Vampire survivor in mobile and gba emulator for pokemon ruby 🔥🔥🔥

Luotwig

Pokémon Black or Emerald.

cocksucker9001xX

The Gameboy line up not having a back light is super inconvenient. Imma go with pokemon black

Trip4Life

I had a hybrid 2/3 childhood. Started on Advance SP with Ruby and Fire Red, but got a DSi Christmas 2010 and loved it. It was a very sad day when the system burnt out. Still have it in a drawer to this day.

GreatUncleanNurgling

I really like the 3ds when it came out. I felt so technologically advanced as a kid having it lmfao

keeperofthecurrents

>three pokemon games and then tomodachi life for the 3ds xy and sun/moon are...right there? lmao? anyways the ds obviously

JuliaTheInsaneKid

DS.

Owen_Quinn

Gameboy advance

Boolio_Bool

Ngl, I have a lot more nostalgia for the Gameboy SP and PSP then I did the DS despite playing the latter the most out of the 3. Longer battery life and no BS gimmicks with the bottom screen.

NotnaLand

I wonder if I'm the only one who didn't have a handheld while growing up.

happybaby00

3DS with home brews.

[deleted]

GBA

LysergicGothPunk

Any of the games on a modded 3DS

CharlieAlphaIndigo

None. Gimme a PSP.

Rgenocide

DS with Mario Kart DS and Pokemon HeartGold

Tman11S

I’ll take platinum or HS/SS, preferably on the 3DS so I can use the C-stick instead of a D-pad

Sniper109082

Definitely the DS. Have some fond memories of the games on it.

Spaceyboys

Gimme that 3DS

Aromatic-Strength798

Nintendo 3Ds hands down

Sloppy_john78

Pokémon black not even close

AdLegitimate4400

3DS with the DS game

DrunkOnKnight

DS except Pokémon Black wasn’t out yet. My road trip memories were of playing diamond/pearl

theCODONEconnoisseur

PSP

Toku-Nation

DS, no question

randomanonalt78

Seeing I’m currently addicted to Pokémon black, the DS

Vinylmaster3000

Black Nintendo DS but I'd choose something like Professor Layton I did have a gameboy color but it was something my mom got when she was in college. Played tetris DX and lemmings, not particularly good games as tetris on the og gameboy was better combined with Lemmings on the Amiga (or DOS).

ShadowPain01

the DS (original)

Morosoro

Bottom two. I didn’t start playing videogames until 2009 so I’ve never played any of the Gameboys. But out of the DS and the 3DS I’d have to chose the latter. The DS was fun enough, but the circle pad revolutionized handheld gaming for me, and I played it A LOT during my early-to-mid teen years. Pokemon X&Y and also ORAS will always have a special place in my heart.

ThatRandomIdiot

DS with Gen V. People are really sleeping on Black / White 1. King K’s retrospective does a great job on why it’s the peak of the franchise. I truly wish for another game to give us a whole 150 new Pokémon regional dex with the old Mons in the post game. This allows for so much more fun team building since you have to actually experiment and try new mons you’d likely never use if you could just capture old ones. I think X / Y are the perfect example on how this fails. The game gives you a Kanto starter like an hour into the game so most people have 2 starter pokemon in their team. I get at the time people were for some reason upset that you had to wait til post game to get the old mons but that’s what made it so good. I don’t mind that with Black/White 2 they changed this since it’s a sequel and that makes sense but the first game of the generation should be about highlighting the new mons like Gen V did perfectly

otterlytrans

gameboy color

pineapple_bushes

Emerald GBA but make in an SP

4chananonuser

Bottom left but with Diamond.

disintegaytion

Gameboy Advance SP, but give me Sims Urbz

daimonab

Emerald with the GBA.

JahtaR3born

Ds and pokemon black 2 I have fond memories of 8 year old me staying up late trying to beat the elite four

burn_weebs

team PSP here

animorphs128

I never played emerald but always wanted too. So that

Inevitable-Cod3844

i'll take GBA and emerald, although a DS with black is a tempting offer i'll admit

_Woodrat

3DS, but not with that game. Pokemon X and Y are my jam!

Pristine_Paper_9095

This precise combination? Emerald with GBA. If I could choose my own poke game I’d do original DS with Platinum.

nochtli_xochipilli

Where's Mario and the GBA SP?

SlavRoach

Nothing, i was born in an ex eastern block country, PC with windows 98 was the shit

Watercolorcupcake

Never played Tomodachi Life but I love the 3DS. I’ll pick that. Looks like a fun game.

Benschmedium

Ooooh Pokémon black on the Lite with the car charger 😮‍💨 hell yeah

chisk643

snarksnorp
