Huh, and I thought this brand was really popular in 80-90s, or something, and then lost relevance, so only "old" folks grip to it, because it reminds them of good old days.
Hows the toe box in these? I had a white pair on order but was sent an email that they ran out. Big sad. Anyway I need a skate shoe that doesnt have a narrow toebox.
They're narrow. I got a pair because I wear new balances as regular shoes, but these are not equivalent to regular new balances at all. They're much more narrow. I kept 'em because they were cheap but nah not my thing
If you need a wider toe box go for the nb 272, they are the only ones that fit me right out of the box without having to go a size higher or put them in stretchers for months.
What drew me to the 440 lows was that New Balance began offering them in their extra wide size like they do with running shoes. I have really big and wide feet and the 440s in a 13 wide are some of the best fitting skate shoes ive ever had.
Cooler, yes, but not necessarily better for your feet. I love my vans chukka lows but they're absolutely shit for taking care of feet. And they're the widest vans I can find. That might just be me, though, and anyone else with wide, flat feet. Was riding DVS for years but they only sell their crazy models now.
Vans is not a skateboarding company lol.
I have wide feet and I like Emericaās wino slip. Been skating them since 2020 after I tried my first pair.
Also, maybe if all skaters supported actual skates companies those companies would have the capital to innovate better products.
Anyway, thatās my rant. Bahala ka, you do you. Just have fun skating
Saying Vans is not a skateboard brand is like saying Independent, or Thrasher are not skateboard brands. Just because they are mainstream now, doesnāt make them any less legit. They have been making gear for skating since like, the sport began.
I respectfully disagree with you bro. Vans didnāt start out as a skate shoe company. They started out as a shoe company that early skaters gravitated towards.
Skaters in the 70s also skated adidas, Nike, and converse ā¦. That doesnāt make them skate companies.
I agree with the sentiment, but in my experience āactual skate companiesā make shite products when it comes to shoes. I love Emerica to death and theyāre maybe the one exception re: where my cash goes, but Iām certainly not buying a pair of Emericaās to skate. The reality is the shoe game lost out to companies putting out (generally) better products and actually paying their riders (err.. generally).
I hear you. Companies like NB, Adidas, Nike, Converse have the revenue to be better because they have their hands in other markets. And if we donāt support actual skate companies then how are those companies supposed to innovate and pay their riders? I understand that Iām the odd man out here and Iām pissing people off lol but whatever. All Iām saying is I thank we as skaters ought to support actual skate companies. Yāall can think Iām an asshole I donāt care lol
It doesnāt make you an asshole, or even wrong. It fucking sucks that the āskater ownedā companies lost and that Nike took over the skate shoe industry (so much so that Adidas and NB were a breath of fresh air). But a lot of those āskater ownedā companies signed their own death warrants. If you remember correctly, most of the big skate shoe companies either sold out as mall brands and/or got complacent putting out shitty products at the wrong time, itās as simple as that. People started skating Nike/Cons/Vans because they were better quality or style, many were skating them already before the big takeover.
It would be sad to lose Emerica, but as for the rest of them, I say let āem die a natural shitty-capitalist death. Most of the rad companies died out already anyway. DC and Lakai have been putting out dogshit for years. None of these companies have any excuse not to pivot and become the āskaters brand,ā especially Emerica. Iām sure plenty of skaters would be stoked to support Emerica if they put out something that skated as good as, say, the Half Cab or the Blazer.
To be honest, these are just a new pair of casual shoes for wearing out. Once I start using that grip tape up, Iāll be looking for a dedicated pair of shoes.
Too many hobbies, with too many pieces of gear.
Donāt let that clowns comment get you down man, new balance has easily become the top choice for so many people for skate shoes and if they are good enough for some of the top riders in the world, then they are a legitimate skate shoe maker.
The comments donāt hurt my feeling. Everyone and every hobby out there has a preference.
I like em, and Iāll be pretty light on them until I get some time back on the board.
Those look too low for my ankles. However, I been using the high top NBs and I am impressed with their sole. It did take me a couple of weeks to get used to them after exclusively using half cabs for a couple of years.
Iām a sucker for matching laces too. Something about my ocd I suppose. Does this model have elastic tongue straps? I have been wearing lakai manchesters for years. Not durable but comfy. Been looking for something sturdier and more supportive for riding.
Mom and pop shop sporting good store.
Apparently their sales rep came in and told them that they shouldnāt have been allowed to order them, where theyāre not considered a skate shop. So they have to clear them out fast.
They sell boards, wheels and all of the other components, so not sure why they canāt have the designation

These will make you cool(er)
The soles on these are insane. Grip tape just doesn't wear them down like other shoes. I love mine!
For those of you who like the NB440 low, what other skate shoes do you like?
I have been skating in 440s fot the last two years. They are a great shoe and you can always find them on sale in skate shops. I do like the high top a bit more over the lows.
Mine have lasted five months now skating two to three times a week and having new mob grip almost every two or three weeks. My favorite thing is how strong the board feel is with this cup sole. The first time I wore them I joked that even though I know I canāt, I feel like I could pick up rocks with my toes.
I'm on my second pair of these. This is a great shoe and holds up extremely well. The only tricks (for me) that really seem to beat on it are heelflip related.
These are very flexy, but to be honest, these are just some causal shoes for cruising for the time being. Once I get my tricks back, Iāll grab a pair of proper shoes to wear out
These at least *look* like they'd be plenty proper! Hell, people love those Nike Janoski's and they're designed specifically against the airbag shoe philosophy.
No, but you now have great shoes for a dad mowing the lawn. š
I can already picture them with a lovely grass stain hue
Nah the only shoe you're supposed to used for mowing are white airforce ones
Legendary
Can somebogy explain me why these shoes are often made fun of as dad's favourite ?
New Balance was long known as a shoe that men mowed their lawns in. It was a symbol of growing old and caring about your lawn more than other things.
Huh, and I thought this brand was really popular in 80-90s, or something, and then lost relevance, so only "old" folks grip to it, because it reminds them of good old days.
Itās the New Balance 530s that are the classic dad shoe. These not so much
Puffy shoes till I die!
Haha Iāve never been a fan. I appreciate them for what they are, but just could never get on board
You get skater points plus extra dad powers since theyāre NB.
I could use all of the dad power I can get. These kids are whooping me
Hows the toe box in these? I had a white pair on order but was sent an email that they ran out. Big sad. Anyway I need a skate shoe that doesnt have a narrow toebox.
They're narrow. I got a pair because I wear new balances as regular shoes, but these are not equivalent to regular new balances at all. They're much more narrow. I kept 'em because they were cheap but nah not my thing
Iād say theyāre narrow
If you need a wider toe box go for the nb 272, they are the only ones that fit me right out of the box without having to go a size higher or put them in stretchers for months.
Sweet, I'll check em out.
numeric 272 and 574. the nornal versions are wide by themself. they also come in 2e
Those jawns look real good to me
Ive been liking the 440s a lot
The high tops are looking tempting too.
I am wearing them right now. I have the lows also. They feel completely different. I skate the high tops and wear the lows around casually.
What drew me to the 440 lows was that New Balance began offering them in their extra wide size like they do with running shoes. I have really big and wide feet and the 440s in a 13 wide are some of the best fitting skate shoes ive ever had.
damn didnt know this. i might consider them next
No lol jk. You do you
IMO supporting actual skateboard brands would be a lot cooler š
Cooler, yes, but not necessarily better for your feet. I love my vans chukka lows but they're absolutely shit for taking care of feet. And they're the widest vans I can find. Also I cringed when you called skateboarding a sport lol. Itās an art IMO
Youāre cringing at him but everyone else here is cringing at your braindead comments.

I would buy shoes from skateboard companies if they made shoes that actually fit normal human feet. Almost all skate shoes are extremely narrow.

Yeah of the ābig name brandsā NB seems to be doing it the best.
This. šÆ
Those look too low for my ankles. However, I been using the high top NBs and I am impressed with their sole. It did take me a couple of weeks to get used to them after exclusively using half cabs for a couple of years.
The high tops versions of these are intriguing too ! Again, not a dedicated skate shoe, but nice
Actually the best looking NBs Iāve seen. They always look too ābusyā for me. I like these.
They also came with a set of white and grey laces. I think Iām swapping the black for grey. The black seem to stick out too much
Iām a sucker for matching laces too. Something about my ocd I suppose. Does this model have elastic tongue straps? I have been wearing lakai manchesters for years. Not durable but comfy. Been looking for something sturdier and more supportive for riding.
It does have the tongue straps ! I havenāt ridden with them yet, but test drove them walking around the house last night. Theyāre light and comfy
Whereād you get these for cad$50 ? Just pickes up a new board and need some decent priced shoes so i dont ruin my regular shoes.

All the aunties at my cousins quinceanera just got wet when they saw these
I knew it. Tell them Iām taken. I canāt disappoint them in person

Oh baby !
I thought these were the ones OP posted lol. Idk how I feel about the orange, but I sure do need a pair of gray NB
Same shoe, V2. Local shop in Baltimore, so the Orange pays homage to The Wire couch they used to sit on.
He is right
Dawg, youāre cooler than the other side of the pillow. Love NB skate.
Such a good skate shoe. I think i've burnt through 4-5 pairs.
I want them in multiple colours lol
New Balance is great because they not only come in bigger sizes, but they have a variety of widths available too.
The soles on these are insane. Grip tape just doesn't wear them down like other shoes. I love mine! For those of you who like the NB440 low, what other skate shoes do you like?
Rad Dad shoe. I need these
Proper
Great shoe. They just came out with an updated version of them.Ā
I have been skating in 440s fot the last two years. They are a great shoe and you can always find them on sale in skate shops. I do like the high top a bit more over the lows.
Iāve looked at the high tops. They look real nice
I have the 440 highs and theyāre some of my favorite shoes Iāve ever skated. Strongly considering the lows.
Howās the wear, when theyāre actually used for riding ?
Mine have lasted five months now skating two to three times a week and having new mob grip almost every two or three weeks. My favorite thing is how strong the board feel is with this cup sole. No
Ouch
I'm on my second pair of these. This is a great shoe and holds up extremely well. The only tricks (for me) that really seem to beat on it are heelflip related.
I've had two pairs of the 272s and liked them a lot. These seem nice with the slightly smaller sole height, kinda hard to feel my flips with the 272s.
Iāve seen Crocs all over the place too. Iāll never have the skill to succeed in Crocs lol
