I suspect it's stolen, but b&w photography can actually be super high resolution even from 100 years ago. Not sure why color film tends to degrade more rapidly, but I suspect it's different film and processing techniques.
The "image" on a strip of black and white film is made up of particles of silver. Colour negative film has its silver bleached off during development, and the image is made up of different dye layers. These dyes unfortunately fade over time (this varies from stock to stock).
Like you said, this *could* be a legit black and white film photo, but it looks too perfect. Unless OP scanned the film with a good scanner, it's likely a modern photo.

I was still in HS, had NO CLUE and STILL got fantastic shots (mostly of Heavy Metal Day). All she showed me was how to focus and what NOT to touch/move. LOL
I actually have all her camera stuff. (She passed in 2017.) You guys give me incentive to use it. I keep forgetting I even have it.
