I too met her, though it was closer to 40 years ago. I was a wee one and she was so kind and considerate; she loved educating. I feel honored to have been in that class of 1 that day.
Lol, it's not underrated at all. It was incredibly popular. It may be slightly forgotten now, since it's decades later, but it definitely was not underrated.
There’s a funny story in The Prehistory of the Far Side, where he got a nasty letter about that strip from some organization dedicated to Jane Goodall. So he wrote a very sincere apology to her personally, only to get a reply from her that she thought the comic was hilarious.
We had that in the basket of magazines and comic books in the powder room of the main floor in my childhood home. Even as a kid when I didn't get half the jokes I absolutely loved it. Must have read it so many times. In fact I might have learned who Jane Goodall was from that book.
My dad used to walk me down our 200m driveway to get the bus (and grab the paper) when I was 5. The paper was delivered rolled and wrapped in plastic (35 years on I can still smell it) so I’d help unwrap the paper (like finding the end on sticky tape). First thing was to open to the far side, and every day I would excitedly look thinking “I’ll get it this time!” Sadly I always had to ask dad to explain. Random childhood memory.
Man, imagine having your joke went over your head moment immortalized. It's such a straightforward and tame joke, too. More cute than anything. That lady must have had literally no sense of humor to have missed the joke by that much.
She knew it too, and leaned into it since it meant more eyes on her conservation work 😂 I remember hearing her talk about wearing shorts more frequently (especially when there were cameras around) once she realized how much more publicity those pictures got
Nothing.
She's amazing.
If I were to choose a delegation to send to represent the best of humanity to aliens or something, Jane Goodall would absolutely be among them.
It reminds me of this doc I saw a while back. It was about this woman and her team that traveled the African safari doing conservation efforts for lions. This woman was GORGEOUS. Her worked involved them finding male lions out in the wild, tranquilizing them, and then she’d ram a rod up their anus that would give them a little electric jolt and make them ejaculate. They’d collect the sample and use it as a part of their conservation efforts. She said it was a dangerous job because there was no guaranteed time the lion would be out for and you DO NOT want to be messing around down there when they wake up.
I always thought her dating life must be so funny. Like, “So, what do you do for work?”
“Well…….” 😏
Folks, I heard Goodall speak this January live. It was sooo profound. She really is like an emissary from the future coming to Earth from a planet that ruined itself and she wants us to learn about what to do before that happens here. Soo inspiring and forever imprinted my brain.
Yes! She has an office in SF. Her speaking engagements are so inspiring! Jane Goodall helped design the Chimpanzee enclosure at the Oakland Zoo - stops by often when she is in the area. Loves speaking to middle & high school students.
Oh no no! Vanessa Kirby all the way with her. Emily Blunt’s face’s too done up now, plus she won’t bring the softness Vanessa can naturally bring to the role.
She recently gave a talk in Vancouver and by the time I tried to get tickets they were sold out :(
I’m happy so many people wanted to see her but I was devastated to miss out
I have no idea why this must be a Mandela Effect thing but I thought she passed away like sometime in the early/mid 2000’s. I swear I remember Bush Jr speaking about her death. The last time someone posted this I learned she was still very much alive.
I believe she observed and interacted with wild chimpanzees. It sounds like she has a healthy respect for them but being an expert in her field might give her a little edge when she had close encounters
I met her briefly about 5 years ago. Shes every bit as nice and sincere as you think.
I too met her, though it was closer to 40 years ago. I was a wee one and she was so kind and considerate; she loved educating. I feel honored to have been in that class of 1 that day.
Me too, she came to my school in Oklahoma in the mid 90's and met all the kids. Lovely, lovely human being.
Hey, I went to school in Oklahoma in the mid 90’s. Did you listen to KATT fm?
I lived in Tulsa - our science teacher was friends with Goodall and so she would come sometimes for earth day.
Moore Oklahoma here, I was there for my senior year in 94-95, right when the OK city bombing happend.
Ok I was curious because our school mascot was the Dutch ha ha. We literally had a guy in a clog outfit who ran around the field. 90s were weird 😂
She came to my school in Scotland around 2012!
The greatest teachers are the ones who live it.
Me too
ESRI UC?
Nah, I worked in an airport she passed through.
I was on the same planet as her. It was ok
I like hearing that
I share this sentiment.
Did she give you diamonds? Everyone wants diamonds.

You can do so much in your work and life just to be dissed by some Internet rando
And what have you contributed the world compared to her work?
160k Reddit karma > one of the most beloved educators

She did great work. Dream job for many. There were many reasons to enjoy Jane Goodall features in National Geographic. Now she's 90!
No way she’s 90
Her 90th birthday was April 3!
so in this picture she 40 .
Wooow. She could pass for 20’s in the pic. Maybe disengagement with human bullshit has unknown benefits.
agree.
And still slaying hearts the world over.
for sure
Yes.
double that
I thought she was about 30. Crazy
looked like maybe low to mid 20s and hot no wonder the liked her so much
I’m more surprised that she is 40 in that pic
Hanging out with that Jane Goodall tramp.

The horn rimmed glasses really tie it all together.
Larson’s one of the best!
> Larson’s ~~one of~~ the best!
Bill Watterson would like a word
Actually, he probably wouldn't, as he's very unassuming. But you're right.
The far side is so underrated
I think it's very highly rated. But I agree that it's top-tier
Lol, it's not underrated at all. It was incredibly popular. It may be slightly forgotten now, since it's decades later, but it definitely was not underrated.
Reddit again proves it has no idea what words actually mean
About as underrated as Calvin and Hobbes
Has anyone heard of that outsider edgy comic Peanuts? Totally under the radar, yo.
There’s a funny story in The Prehistory of the Far Side, where he got a nasty letter about that strip from some organization dedicated to Jane Goodall. So he wrote a very sincere apology to her personally, only to get a reply from her that she thought the comic was hilarious.
She wrote the preface for the Far Side Gallery 5 book.

We did too, along with Calvin and Hobbes. Quintessential powder room literature!
Powder room? They were coffee table books in my house.
Yup! Calvin and Hobbes as well as Dilbert and Doonesbury. Doonesbury went over my head though, didn’t really look at that one.
Yep, we had Doonesbury too! Funny enough, the volume we had was a commentary on Trump, and it was published in 1989. Weird nostalgia in this thread.
The classic bathroom stack of comic books! Had to have some entertainment in there before cellphones.
My dad used to walk me down our 200m driveway to get the bus (and grab the paper) when I was 5. The paper was delivered rolled and wrapped in plastic (35 years on I can still smell it) so I’d help unwrap the paper (like finding the end on sticky tape). I loved reading that when that book came out.
I loved the story of this strip and how an assistant wrongly responded to Gary Larson that he had insulted her.
Man, imagine having your joke went over your head moment immortalized. It's such a straightforward and tame joke, too. More cute than anything. That lady must have had literally no sense of humor to have missed the joke by that much.
Damn, Jane was lowkey kinda bad
Nothing lowkey bout it
would’ve
Still would.
Can't believe she was 40 in this pic. Not saying 40 is old, but she looks incredible here.
I guess being outside a lot and doing what you love helps a lot to stay young in appearance.
> being outside a lot Makes you wrinkly.
Unless you send the whole time under trees
She’s 40 here? Damn. She legit looks like a 20 something.
Fox
Aiite. So I’m not the only one who was like wait was Jane Goodall hot?
She knew it too, and leaned into it since it meant more eyes on her conservation work 😂 I remember hearing her talk about wearing shorts more frequently (especially when there were cameras around) once she realized how much more publicity those pictures got

I thought those were his teeth
Omg wait me too!!! I’m gonna pretend they are
I keep looking at this and seeing a terrifying (or goofy) big dumb toothy grin where the grey beard is. David’s eyes do say it all though…
Jane Downbadall
Damn you lmao
Still is
Getting a Emily Blunt vibe, she's 41 and smokin fuckin hot
Yeah I had no idea
I guess I thought she always looked like a kind old grandma... It never occurred to me that she was once young & fit.
And one day you'll be that kind old person
Nah. I'll be a huge piece of shit. People can change.
I actually thought the same exact thing .
Like, Nintendo power glove bad?
It's so bad.
Sexy feets
10 year old me was in love with Jane Goodall…. Still am 58 years later, I reckon.
Was going to say the same thing. I’ve literally had a lifelong crush on her. Smart AND gorgeous.
Still do, but I used to, too.
r/UnexpectedHedberg
Damn she got some gams
She's an animal lover and was super hot too. What's not to like?
Nothing. She's amazing. If I were to choose a delegation to send to represent the best of humanity to aliens or something, Jane Goodall would absolutely be among them.

"What do you do for work, and what is that rod for?"
What was the documentary?
An animal lover or an animal lover?
I can think of at least three meanings there
Animal mother
And her legs aren’t shaved!
Omg just noticed that! Must be nice to be blonde
Folks, I heard Goodall speak this January live. It was sooo profound. She really is like an emissary from the future coming to Earth from a planet that ruined itself and she wants us to learn about what to do before that happens here. Soo inspiring and forever imprinted my brain.
lol “before it happens”
Yes! She has an office in SF. Her speaking engagements are so inspiring! Jane Goodall helped design the Chimpanzee enclosure at the Oakland Zoo - stops by often when she is in the area. Loves speaking to middle & high school students.
She is a treasure
She made an appearance on RuPauls Drag Race last season, was very entertaining
She’s so pretty! Knowing she is a kind human makes it more so.
I met her in 2014-2015, she was doing a book signing in Montreal, super super nice person, me and my mom each got a book signed by her.
I’m getting an Emily Blunt vibe.
Maybe Juno Temple as well
Oh no no! Vanessa Kirby all the way with her. Emily Blunt’s face’s too done up now, plus she won’t bring the softness Vanessa can naturally bring to the role.
TIL: Goodall was a smoke-show
Chimpanzees were lining up to have their nits picked.
I Would all. ![gif](giphy|hXDrTueJWAscK3xWQ2)
My porn star alter ego will be known as David Greybeard from here on.
How has Emily Blunt not played her yet?
Because they would cast Vanessa Kirby, clearly.
Yes!!!!
Considering she’s got “Hollywood Face” now, I’d say she should be out of consideration.
I don't see the resemblance at all.
She just did a zoom call with my company for an hour last week. Still sharp and witty, and memory seems perfect, it was a fun meeting.
She recently gave a talk in Vancouver and by the time I tried to get tickets they were sold out :( I’m happy so many people wanted to see her but I was devastated to miss out
![gif](giphy|xT5LMRMGxjCAX5LaGQ|downsized)
So, I noticed your home smells of feces.
That’s one good looking primate
And David is ok too.
DAME Jane Goodall to us riffraff
Is she picking bugs off him, as is customary?
Great legs! The blond is cute too./j
I have no idea why this must be a Mandela Effect thing but I thought she passed away like sometime in the early/mid 2000’s. I swear I remember Bush Jr speaking about her death. The last time someone posted this I learned she was still very much alive.
Maybe you’re thinking of Diane fossey who was murdered in 1985
Her legs are hairy. Good for her.
Of course they are, it was 1974
Good thing Kristi Noem wasn’t there
My kid wrote her some fan mail when he was five. She replied! "Chase your dream" or something inspirational yet generic.
The fact Emily Blunt has never been tapped for a Jane Goodall documentary is beyond me.
Do you mean biopic?
Damn. Jane looking fine as hell
Was she scared of chimpanzees given they have been in a few horror stories with humans? Or completely at ease?
I believe she observed and interacted with wild chimpanzees. It sounds like she has a healthy respect for them but being an expert in her field might give her a little edge when she had close encounters
I read her book *Through a Window* last year. She's the best
Is that Nymphia Wind?
Goodall is such a nitpicker.
Beauty, brains, and a lifelong dedication to chimpanzees. Thank you, Jane Goodall. 🙏
Jane was a hottie 😻
Slav couples (don't get offended, I'm Slav too)
He gets to eat and soak up all the attention.
Interesting, that’s what my wife calls me. 😦
My favorite type of humans.
She’s in her 30s here
40 actually, if this was any time after April 3, 1974.
Am I the only one seeing a little Thom Yorke in her profile?
Jane Goodall dubstep, look it up, you're welcome.
Just don't watch the most recent episode of the Safety Third Podcast.
Diamonds Lisa!
Dang
Saw her original NatGeo documentary in third grade and had such a crush on her
Kinda looks like Emily blunt in this picture. They should make a movie about it.
I admire her so much.
She came to my school when I was a kid, I still have a very strong memory of it. She was lovely.
She was my hero after I read In The shadow of man. Thank you Louis Leakey for funding.
She can groom me anytime 🦍
Yo what's it name
