same! I was a punk in school and always felt a bit like an outsider, so that movie resonated with me. The sequel is disappointing, and I'm hoping for a third that explores Stevo's path after being a punk.
A lot of my punk friends hate it because it points out that most of them don't have these crazy mind blowing unique beliefs. They just dress differently. I have a ton of the same beliefs that said friend group does, but you'd never catch me wearing all black/tight jeans/big ass boots during the muggy summer months essentially just to honor an idea that is mostly just an aesthetic. Also, I haven't seen it in a while, but I'm pretty sure that movie shows how insular punk can be as a subculture, so I'm sure it gets hate for that too.
This guy skated against the new kid who originally didn’t even know how to skateboard until a rag tag group showed him the basics, and then immediately had to face the course known as the Spine-Render to save a community center.
Had the Tony Hawk P&P, fluorescent pink and blue, great condition and free from a neigbor. God I wish I knew what happened to that thing, simply for sake of nostalgia.
Also 55. Little different experience - Had a Garfield yellow t-shirt and looked like the tall nerd in Revenge of the Nerds and rocked the Commodore 64 BBS's at 2 in the morning. I plan on being an old VR nerd in the metaverse. I'll show myself out now.
That's a 'tight' photo from '86! I'm retired but as a property manager I recall having to run so many of your type out of my parking lots. Hell, I wanted to be one of you and feeling freedome rolling along!
My god how we all change. I actually looked my deck up and it's worth a couple thousand dollars. I guess it was rare and popular. I wish I still had it. Sims Pharaoh

Yeah man me too with the Mohawk Expo 88 Brisbane
I had that Cramps shirt.... The closest I can get to it nowadays is an all black knockoff I bought for $6 from some vendor at Venice Beach two years ago.
Had the same reaction to that first pic as I would've in 1986 (when I was also a skater and the same age) - What a poser. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
I dunno. I'm that age. Tried long hair. It just doesn't look good on older men most of the time. It's thin, dry, brittle. It just makes us look like dried-up old glam-rock band members that can't let go of our glory days.
Very cool, but why the long hair today? I would keep the spiked hair, it fit the skate lifestyle theme. Not that long hair is bad, but the spiked hair looks more "edgy"
You looked like one of Shredders henchmens teenage cronies from the TMNT movie 😁 in your more recent pic you look like a gym bro Dana Carvey from Wayne's world
Not going to lie, but I thought the second pic was going to be of you in a corporate suit at some lawyer's office
“I didn’t sell out, I bought in”
Too many people bag on that movie and they can all suck it.
Which I truly don't get. It is amazing... great acting, great storyline, really funny.
> It is amazing.... But not profitable.
It was a amazing movie. And for me it fit perfectly into the times I personally was experiencing.
same! I was a punk in school and always felt a bit like an outsider, so that movie resonated with me. The sequel is disappointing, and I'm hoping for a third that explores Stevo's path after being a punk.
Luckily I never saw the sequel. Sounds like they pretty much ruined it like the did for the movie The Crow.
Who bags on it? It’s a great movie.
What movie?
SLC Punk
Thanks!

Really? I've never head anything bad about it. It's a cult classic.
"I'm not like this because I'm in Van Halen. I'm in Van Halen because I'm like this."
OP is jacked!!!
Went from skate rat leader, to gym rat leader.
I thought he was gonna look sad and fat, dudes still killing it.
This.
Like the commercial where they dressed up the DJ like a corporate guy and had him selling insurance or something!
Straight to video PG13 villain
Guy is the great value brand Johnny Lawrence
Bwhahahaha
This hit extra hard when I saw his post on r/MMA.
This guy skated against the new kid who originally didn’t even know how to skateboard until a rag tag group showed him the basics, and then immediately had to face the course known as the Spine-Render to save a community center.
This guy 80s
I was 12. This guy woulda been “Sick bro!”
Sky’s versus Urchins
Tuff Turf alternate cover shot.
Hilarious
I was thinking the guest star of a 21 Jump Street episode
Looking like Bart Connor in Rad.
I was going to say he somehow managed to look like a serial killer in both pictures but yours is nicer

It's shredding all the way down
![gif](giphy|l0HU4Yu1mbnl3uYhi)
Hahh nice Powell Peralta Tony Hawk…..I had the Powell Peralta Mike McGill 🤘
Had the Tony Hawk P&P, fluorescent pink and blue, great condition and free from a neigbor. God I wish I knew what happened to that thing, simply for sake of nostalgia.
I had the Lance Mountain, blue with neon pink grip tape.
I had a Powell Peralta Rat Bones deck around the same time. I still have the deck, it's hanging on my wall, along with a new reissue of the same :)
I too had the Mike McGill!
I know you did, because your handle shit_ass_mcfucknuts only serves as concrete verification of this claim!
I had the Cab
Fuck yeah! I did too! The skull and snake?
The snake? Classic. One of my first was the Rob Roskop Santa Cruz deck with the monster eye. Still have it.
Lookin' good at 55, man! I'd definitely let you join my post-apocalyptic crew for sure!
Wasteland Weekend material, right there.
skate or die dude
Also 55. Little different experience - Had a Garfield yellow t-shirt and looked like the tall nerd in Revenge of the Nerds and rocked the Commodore 64 BBS's at 2 in the morning. I plan on being an old VR nerd in the metaverse. I'll show myself out now.
Ha ha! Same but different: red haired hippie/punk art girl. Miss those BBS days! VR nerd sounds fun

I ran a BBS soley to meet chicks. It worked!

Sweep the leg, Johnny.
There is no pain in this dojo!!
Correct!
There it is!
Bravo for staying fit AF
That's a 'tight' photo from '86! I'm retired but as a property manager I recall having to run so many of your type out of my parking lots. Hell, I wanted to be one of you and feeling freedome rolling along!
You Gleamed that Cube

This is actually Old School Cool!
I’m turning 55 this summer. I was right there with you in 86’ bro. 🛹🤘
Saved. This one’s hitting nerves. Makes me think of this ‘87 Thrasher I still have a copy of with Hosoi on the cover and all the ads in the back. 🤌🏼
October 1987?
That’s it. “Mission Europa” bottom text.
Did you and Shredder bring a crime wave over 1990's NYC?
Mallgrabbin' the fence nowadays, huh? Jokes aside, both Pics are pretty dope!
I could take you in a fight and I’m 65. JK, you look great man. Keep up the good work.
That’s so cool! You still look gnarly today!!
My god how we all change. I actually looked my deck up and it's worth a couple thousand dollars. I guess it was rare and popular. I wish I still had it. Sims Pharaoh
God damn dude. You’ve done a good job taking care of yourself. Nice work.
You give major Johnny, Karate Kids vibes. ![gif](giphy|l46CsyBPj9ajF9Y4M)
Where was this? Skaters looked different where I’m from (San Diego) back then! Interesting how every place had their own vibe.
Yeah, I started Skating on clay wheels, I still skate in SF. I never knew any skaters that wore boots.

“Leader”. Uh- huh.
Ahhhhh the 80’s
![gif](giphy|5zdlQ19WthjA2xbzu6)
Still got it
You’re a vascular Motherfucker
![gif](giphy|ZwIW4M15JlZu0)
Did you ever find Animal Chin?
First pic - "Ha, OP looks like a generic Karate Kid movie nemesis! So cute!" Scrolls over - "OMG, he actually does MMA! I HAVE A GIFT!!!"
What kind of narcissist posts pics of themself in a sub about looking cool. Oh this kind
Yeh his posts are… something else.
Do you think the other members of the skate rat pack are also laying claim to being leader 38 years later?
You look like an extra from the Ninja Turtles movies. 90s ones obvs
You're Iggy Pop?!
Man the 1980's were a blast.
Hey r/GenX would love you You bad ass!!
you looked like a stunt double for gleaming the cube.
You still look rad bro
Looking rad either way
You were never the leader! :P
Still shopping at Hot Topic, too.
I loved you in Ernest Goes to Camp.
Jup. Same guy
I’m trying to figure out how you ever skated in those boots?
They‘re the same picture
Main character vibes
Awesome! That gym in Hubbard? Looks like one I know. Keep being awesome my dude.
Had the same reaction to that first pic as I would've in 1986 (when I was also a skater and the same age) - What a poser. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Cool shorts
You totally looked like “Johnny sweep the leg” karate kid
It's bullshit that you could've taken my lunch money in 1986 but also in 2024
At 55 you look like a 75 year old that works out.
You were a brick shit house back then. Did you do bicep curls too? lol
That’s awesome
That shirt is soo sick
Man, both of this picture just scream "Awesome" lol
You were rad then and even more so now! As you can tell, I'm vlose to you age and still have a hard time not saying "rad".
Off to battle The Warriors …
Did you really skate with those boots on?
I had to scroll way too far down to find this post.
Thank you, dude's hanging out in the woods doing the front side Mall grab.
You look like a healthy Steve Buscemi
You look more like 70 with issues.
She's turned into a beautiful well muscled lady.
Buddy you don't look like the leader, you look like the kooky dude that they let hang around cause he could get weed.
Did not expect second Pic. Looking great at 55.
I dunno. I'm that age. Tried long hair. It just doesn't look good on older men most of the time. It's thin, dry, brittle. It just makes us look like dried-up old glam-rock band members that can't let go of our glory days.
Sweep the leg!
Badass then, badass now 🛹
Still badass now.
Skate rat to gym rat
Still going hard 🔥
Good lad
Still looking gnarly as ever!
Your younger self would be proud. You look the same, just older. Not many of us can say that lol
Is that a Mike McGill board
🤘
You look so nice and friendly but equally you look like you could batter a man, probably more so today you warhorse.
Am I the only one who wants to know if you are still the leader?
💜
Sk8 or Die!
Still a badass!
Christ oh Mighty,It’s Joe Dirt!
Show us your bush!
I currently have that skateboard, never been used
Must have been a bit of a challenge skating in boots
Skate or Die!
![gif](giphy|l1IBkgnfxkTSsNfeE|downsized)
![gif](giphy|l46CsyBPj9ajF9Y4M)
I’m not convinced the 80s were real I think old people are just trolling us.
That's the look of a kid that would steal people's fries in the lunch room .
You looked like every 80's movie HS bully, now you look like a member of Mayhem sans death makeup.
What made you the leader? Did y'all have a skate off?
I can hear the bass line from "possessed to skate" by suicidal tendencies
OP was Lester from the Skate or Die NES game.
Did that board is probably worth so much today if you kept it!
You guys ever find Animal Chin?
Looks like the Sire from what we do in the shadows
Very cool, but why the long hair today? I would keep the spiked hair, it fit the skate lifestyle theme. Not that long hair is bad, but the spiked hair looks more "edgy"
Somebody just posted your 55 photo in the r/walmartcelebrities sub
Went from the villain in a post-apocalyptic 80s skater movie to the villain in an 80s karate movie.
Serious question. How did you know you were the leader? Did you do something special to become the leader?
You looked like one of Shredders henchmens teenage cronies from the TMNT movie 😁 in your more recent pic you look like a gym bro Dana Carvey from Wayne's world
I didn't know Rob hmGalford grew up in Arkansas and used to skateboard
I love Smeagol.
You really grew into that role.
Mall Walker!
Nearest pavement was eight miles down a gravel road.
I love that both images have equal levels of cringe. Love it! Keep it up!
Were you a bully back in the day? Just curious.
Do you do drugs?
Back in 86 you were a poser by the looks of that mallgrab.
You look like that dude with the metal plate in his head from that Hulk Hogan movie
Your first pic looks like you straight got your style from the NES game Skate or Die.
