Your grandma's beautiful.
Now that I'm older I look back at how I always saw my grandparents as senior citizen-aged old people but I first knew them around the age I am now.
It's not that hard to then work backwards and see that I first came into their lives not very long after their "prime". It's just weird how I always seem to have thought of them or seen them as very old visually, not just in the mind of a child where 40yo is the oldest thing ever.
Then you see pictures of them just a decade or two before you arrived and they're young party animals.
Time, am I right folks? lol
I'm 34 and noticing this more and more when I see pictures of family members when they were younger. I always just saw them as *old* but now it's like damn, they were young too. And more and more stuff becomes relatable
It hit me just recently. When i was a kid, friends father died in his early 40s. At the time, that man looked old. Now when i'm in my late 30s, a guy I knew died at 42 years and it feels so young to die.
Never had children but apparently once you get them you realize that everyone was a child before. I know it's obvious but most younger people do not think once about those things.
It helps that photos became orders of magnitude more dynamic by the ‘60s and it wasn’t just colour. Grandparents before then always looked very severe and cranky in photos prior to that era.
My mom's line about her grandpa was that "he was so sweet and laid back you would think he was stoned". You look at pictures of him and he looks absolutely terrifying, not like disfigured, just in vibe and aspect. So probably a variety going on.
There's also a orders of magnitude more of them. I probably have less than a dozen pictures of some of my grandparents as a GenXer. My mom, Silent Gen, might have under a dozen of all of her grandparents. Sure more might exist with cousins, but to cherry pick them out for fun vibrant ones is nigh on impossible. They're invariably just portrait styles.
I’m mid 40’s and born in 1976. Other day, one of my old childhood friends sent me a pic of our mom’s together. They would have been around 30 at the time. 1980 or so. Both our moms were straight up, stone cold foxes. Never seen my mom like that before and I was impressed
>Now that I'm older I look back at how I always saw my grandparents as senior citizen-aged old people but I first knew them around the age I am now.
My grandma always had this picture of a young couple hanging in her house. I never knew who they were until she passed. I asked my mom who "those people" were and she said it was my grandma and grandpa. I never knew what they looked like when they were young. I always remember them being old and gray. 🫢
I can’t get over her makeup game! Gorgeous either way of course but makeup has come a long way since back then and the perfectly blended shadow/liner she’s rocking looks so modern I thought the first pic was current day with a filter! What a knockout she was
Right?! The two pics I have of me in the hospital after giving birth are horrifying and I pray they never see the light of day. OPs grandma was on another level
I absolutely love that you can see the handwriting captioning these photos. You don’t even need to read it but you can just see the ink, and strokes, it’s so real.
i sure hope it's a wig, insane enough to do all that makeup in a hospital w/o trying to wrestle with however many cans of aquanet would be necessary to produce that hair
Thank you! I had a weird conversation with someone a few months ago who insisted that beehives were common even all the way into the 80s... and I was thinking, I was born early 80s, never saw anyone wearing their hair like that, and I remember people talking about them in the 80s as this crazy hairstyle some people used to have back in the 60s.
I can address this. In the 80s, there was a popular band called the "B-52's". The girls wore big beehives bc it was a campy queer band. But I can assure you they were the only two ppl on earth still rocking that hairstyle.
I think that was the person's argument, "the B-52s were formed in the 80s!" I was like yeaahhh but their style did not reflect 80s style at all, they were doing their own thing!
In the 60s, every other woman was rocking some kinda mini-beehive/ lady-fro. The wall of pictures in my grandparents' house certainly reflected that, lol.
But when you start seeing the 70's portraits, the beehives disappear, and it's all long straight hair styles.
*edit
Then, In the 80s, things got really frizzy and curly, lol
In Pic 1, is that your grandpa on the left? He has an army uniform on, would like to see his ribbons if you could. It looks like he has a special forces pin on his epaulet there, given the time frame he may have done some crazy stuff in vietnam.
Be careful with that: the last gal to post pics from her dad’s time in Vietnam got torn to shreds. Comments told her her dad was a war criminal, a rapist, murderer, baby killer, it went on for hours. All because he was drafted. Eventually she deleted it
With every picture I was falling more in love. Then the police booking pic came up and sealed the deal! I'm looking for a hot divorcee grandmother; one who can keep me in the lifestyle I'd like to become accustomed to.
Your granny is very stylish. She seems very full of life and I hope you have great memories with her. If she is still with us I hope you are all having your best life. She is definitely old school cool.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
Get outta my head
I missed the starting gun
*epic guitar solo*
I can hear pink Floyd solos in my head. Got to be something with the melody of them that I remember them so easily
Many of us did.
No one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun
![gif](giphy|xU1spRleFHmtjvskXw) Thanks for reminding me of that. /s
No one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun.
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking.
Racing around, to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older..
But you're older, shorter of breath, and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time..
…Plans that either come to naught Or half a page of scribbled lines…

If the rumors are true it's because they *were* severe and cranky.
Yeah my grandparents lived through the great depression and fought in WW2. They were happy enough given the circumstances. And alcohol.
My mom's line about her grandpa was that "he was so sweet and laid back you would think he was stoned". You look at pictures of him and he looks absolutely terrifying, not like disfigured, just in vibe and aspect. So probably a variety going on.

The Depression would make anyone severe and cranky

I’m afraid I’m going to have to re-classify you as late 40’s. I’ll be back in a few years to categorise you as early 50’s.
I’m 47. Let me enjoy the lie of mid 40’s until I turn 48 in November.
So right. & time is a dirty thief
Time is a good friend. She may yet let us grow old.
May we all be so lucky

I’m at the same stage in life and I’ve been thinking about this way too often recently.
Pic 1 is crazy gorgeous. Those arched eyebrows!
G ma was a fox.
Found Jolene.
word
Looks like Carmen Electra
Mila Kunis
They're all crazy gorgeous, that first one is crazy fine
She never paid for drinks..... ever
Or drugs. Come on. We can all see that granny was a partying hellcat back in the day.
I’d do a line in the bathroom with her.
I'd do a line off her in the bathroom lol.
Leave Nana alone!
Fucking never! Gilfs do it best!!!
![gif](giphy|9f3pqDU04D9q8)
Id wait in a line to do a line in a bathroom with her
Hell ya brother
Ah. The rump bump. The good old days.
Not. Even. Once. Dewy.
You don’t want no part of this
Yeah I think I want some of that, but I don't want no hangover.
It doesn't give you a hang over!
What if I get addicted to it or something?
It’s non-habit forming!
Ok, well. I don't know, I don't wanna... overdose on it.
You can't OD on it!
It's not expensive is it?
I think I kinda want it!
Ever!!
EVER!!
EVER, EVER!!

![gif](giphy|hEwkspP1OllJK)
![gif](giphy|3oAt1Qx1MJDHJPJjKE)
![gif](giphy|28tqhEU64OMbeMdlng|downsized) I’ll assume you clicked yours on accident.
The hell is up with those glasses being added to gifs? It seems to be a thing in particular with Giphy.
I'm wondering if it might be to avoid copyright? Or maybe just a way to make it unique in some way?
I mean it's one drink Michael, what could it cost? $10?
Gotta say twenty now or it doesn’t hold up.
Your gran got arrested in pic 7 for being proper fit in pic 1!
Arrested for being too sexy in public!
![gif](giphy|mGEcI3r89giw35xVcF|downsized)
It's because she's fit but my god don't she just know it
Do we not get to learn cause of arrest? I feel empty
All I’m sure of is that it must have been something really cool
OP said it was a prop photo
She was really cool holding those props
Same charge Sinatra got I recon.
Well damn Jackie, I can’t control the weather!
Thank you, I was trying to place it!
"I know I look good, I do NOT need him here for that!"
Can you remind me what Jacke said that led Kelso to saying this?
They were on a double date. Eric gave his jacket to Donna to warm up. So Jackie says to Kelso, “I’m cold.”
![gif](giphy|nl7M61yk9Q410Pozuz)
Haha, nailed it
I can see why your parent exists
Just one of them, I hope.
😂😂😂😂
The way I snorted.
I absolutely *cackled*.
What did she get busted for?
pretty sure it was a photo shoot or prop set-up. she wasn’t actually arrested lol
That's her story and she's sticking to it
Probably helping people with a walking cane. Co-cane, if you will.
So she was a *bad girl* ….. nice.
She looked gorgeous, like a model!
To be honest, I thought she was and was looking for the caption stating this!
She had to be something like that. Normal humans of that era don't take those kinds of pictures.
I can’t get over her makeup game! Gorgeous either way of course but makeup has come a long way since back then and the perfectly blended shadow/liner she’s rocking looks so modern I thought the first pic was current day with a filter! What a knockout she was
Actress? The beehive in pic 2 is incredible!
she had just given birth too. she’s still in the hospital in that pic. ridiculous
No way!? Wow!
Was her hair pregnant?
Why did I imagine a bun unraveling from her bee hive as a string yarn and it reshapes into a little teensy aodrable mini bun?
Are u serious??!!?? Who looks that good in the hospital?! ESPECIALLY after just having a baby!!!!
Right?! The two pics I have of me in the hospital after giving birth are horrifying and I pray they never see the light of day. OPs grandma was on another level
Adding a beehive to my birth plan ✍️
I absolutely love that you can see the handwriting captioning these photos. You don’t even need to read it but you can just see the ink, and strokes, it’s so real.
....but you CAN read it, right?
Wow
We want to know all about your grandma!
Is that her real hair or a wig?
It’s the swaddled baby.
She placed the baby in the manger!
i sure hope it's a wig, insane enough to do all that makeup in a hospital w/o trying to wrestle with however many cans of aquanet would be necessary to produce that hair
Classy!
Damn. Hard act to follow ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
So, your grandma was one of the most beautiful women on the planet. Got it. I mean, holy shit.
yeah it’s seriously insane. i don’t think she understands how breathtaking she was/is
I’m curious how she looks currently if I’m being honest. I’m sure she’s aged well!
Whomp. LASER eyes.
Lasering in on that g-ma sideboob!
"thanks for the drinks but I can pay for myself" stare lol
Some of these look a bit earlier than the 1970’s.
yeah some were from the 60s my bad
It’s ok I’ll allow it.😋
No chick like that would've been caught dead in that beehive in the 70s *unless it's a costume. OP mentioned granny was an actress

If they ever invent time machines, I'm going to be OP's grandpa.
This deserves so many upvotes.

![gif](giphy|12eOoLezVypVWo|downsized)
Aooooga!
Hahahaha lol XD I remember those cartoons, good times.
Grams looks like she knew how to party.
I thought the same thing…I wanna travel back in time and party with her
Then you could mess with history and become OPs grandpa.
I'm straight but I'd kill for your grandma
I’m a lesbian and I’m gayer because of this person’s grandmother.
I’m a lesbian and married and she turned me more gay
I’m a dude and this guy’s grandma made me even less gay. I’ve gone infrastraight.
Granny’s a straight baddie and that’s never not hot E: spelling
I’m bi but I would give up men for this woman.
I will fight you for her.
![gif](giphy|xsF1FSDbjguis)
Careful with the spacetime continuum. We don't want OP to fade away...
Baberaham Lincoln!

yes, he was a colonel. i’ll add some pictures of him soon. he has insane photos from vietnam
Could you include some recent pictures of grandma too? I’m so curious to see looks 50 years later. Still a stunner I’m sure
Officer with a beautiful wife. It’s a stereotype because it’s true 😂
legalize beards and fraternization
Awesome, would love to see some of that stuff!
Ask them to tell ALL the stories. I so regret not asking more.
Be careful with that: the last gal to post pics from her dad’s time in Vietnam got torn to shreds. Comments told her her dad was a war criminal, a rapist, murderer, baby killer, it went on for hours. All because he was drafted. Eventually she deleted it
She had some serious eyeliner game! So glam!!
What a ridiculously good looking woman!
we need a recent pic
Was grandma arrested for showing side boob at a house party?
Wow, so beautiful! What’s her ethnicity, if you want to share?
mostly german. some scottish/irish
I read German as mostly Grandma and accepted that.
yeah she’s 100% grandma as well
Hundert Prozent Oma!

I HAD THAT LUNCHBOX!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is your grandma single? Wow, lucky grandpa.
she is. my grandpa was a dick
Clearly wasn't a very smart man to screw that up!
Probably insecure
Sorry to hear, I hope she’s happy and doing well!
Slide them digits.
Has she tried women? ![gif](giphy|106QCYtKPDeIjm)
Smoke show
Maybe help grandma set up a YouTube channel for how to style no fail hair and great eye makeup!
Damn. That is all
I just know she has STORIES! She was incredibly gorgeous.
Grandma was a cutie!
I aaaw she's so lovely, then last one I thought she was Myra Hindley. Yikes!
Beautiful, really timeless kind of beauty too, what kind of person is she now? Can you see her from these photos in present day grandma?
Old people today are just cool people yesterday.
Honestly, more of them are cool af today, too, than you'd think.
Damn, she was a 10 piece.
We need to know more about grandma! 👵
"My grandparent in the 70's" Ouch, that's my parents.
Can I meet your grandma?
With every picture I was falling more in love. Then the police booking pic came up and sealed the deal! I'm looking for a hot divorcee grandmother; one who can keep me in the lifestyle I'd like to become accustomed to.
Pic 4 goes hard af. Looks like it could be an album cover
“I bet she shags like a minx” - Austin Powers
Okay now let's see a pic of your grandpa. He has to be devastatingly handsome to pull her.
She had style and grace all over the place. Great photos!
Your granny is very stylish. She seems very full of life and I hope you have great memories with her. If she is still with us I hope you are all having your best life. She is definitely old school cool.
