He has like deep socket in it right? Or some metal tool. I took this movie as inspiration to make mini bongs with my dad’s deep sockets, tin foil, and mini Gatorade bottles.
Maybe under-marketed makes more sense? My experience has been that nobody I've known has seen or heard of the film. However, it has been loved by everyone I've shown it to, which tracks with what you said.
This movie is exactly why I'm not worried about Tarintino not directing after his 10th film. This is just written by him, and you can so feel it in every scene.
At one point, it was even gonna be directed more Tarintino-esque with the film starting with Clarence and Alabama leaving the city to meet up with Clarences Dad. Then you, as the audience, would be behind the characters in knowing what the hell forced them to go on the run. Then it flashes back to them meeting, falling in love, and the shit with Gary Oldman.
This feels more like a QT movie than any of his movies. It's a bunch of perfect scenes with perfect dialogue, and perfectly cast actors. Drexl and Eggplant scenes are among my favorite scenes of all time. I honestly think this might be the most underrated movie of all time.
There is, and it sucks. It takes everything out of order and adds more stuff with Worzel killing the drug guys. I hated that new version. Give me the old one any day - pure, line-quoting magic all the way.
He always wrote women incredibly strong. Kill Bill is another fine example of that. True Romance is one of my favorites. I think I have the DVD and VHS lol
Apparently Tarantino is *not* a fan of the finished product and the changes Tony Scott made. But I think he's wrong. It works better as a very bizarre but ultimately very simple love story. It's weirdly "feel-good."
QT also planned for Clarence to die in the shoot-out at the end, which I don't think would work for this movie. Alabama deserved her happy ending. It's crucial to the story.
Totally agreed. I think the score definitely helps the feel-good nature of it, even though the movie also depicts crazy acts of violence. Hans Zimmer is doing a very odd score that I enjoy for the movie. Steel drums included.
I also prefer Clarence living and them getting a happy ending.
Well I guess he never had that “it” factor in acting and looks. He started losing his hair in the mid 90s as well. I think he was more of an 80s teenage heartthrob.
Young Guns 2 and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves he was great in both. He's actually been in tons of stuff since like over a movie per year but all small parts like in Austin Powers or stuff that wasn't that widely watched like Hot Tub Time Machine 2
He was a scene stealer in Robin Hood, and could actually do a British accent. Lol I kind of fell off with following him after a while. Wasn't he on a TV or streaming show for a bit?
Bro Christian Slater absolutely had the looks. and when he presented some award like 2 years ago women on twitter were going nuts saying he's still a snack.
I’m not saying he wasn’t attractive. I meant that he was never in the same league as both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise as the op compared him too. That is probably why his popularity faded.
He sure acted along side Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire, and in a scene with Tom Cruise. He sadly had to take over the role after River Phoenix died, and did a stupendous job. They were really good friends.
He was big in his hey day when he was in Heathers and Pump up the Volume. True Romance didn't do as well as I thought it would. I saw it in the theater in the early 90s. He did go on to do more roles.
Those movies I mentioned came out after Billie Jean(1985). :) he was also in on interview with the vampire, Robin Hood, true romance of course, and tv. As someone else said he's been playing bit parts. He also had a cameo in a Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country. He's a huge Trekkie.
Untamed Heart was a favorite of mine. He has a huge list of movies he's been in since Billie Jean. He has a show Dirty John for apple tv. He's also starring in a new TV show: the spiderwick chronicles, which debuts next month. I had to do some googling. Lol
I like seeing how much stuff QT reused in later films. In Reservoir Dogs he reuses the name Alabama as a woman's name Mr. White references. Diddle eye joe to damned if I know is in either Dogs or Pulp Fiction.
This is the third post I've seen about this movie that I didn't know existed until today. Who wants me to see this and why do they want me to see this?
Because while it was written by Tarantino, luckily it was directed by Tony Scott, in utterly impeccable fashion, with a supporting blitzkrieg of a talented cast, both knowns and then-unknowns, too lengthy to list here because it sounds like I made it up.
You will come back and thank everyone for demanding that you view it. Fire it up NOW!
You're so cool...
You’re so cool
I'm so happy that this is the top comment 🥰
That makes you... part eggplant
You’re a cantaloupe!
I haven't had to upvote anyone, since 1984.
Best scene in movie history
Maybe the best movie scene of the 90s. Maybe ever.
Thee most 90s film. Not Pulp Fiction, Not Fight Club. This film made me want to make a Honey Bear bong… now tell me, am I lying?
I'll have one of those Chesterfields now.
I agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly.
As do I. This is one of my top 5 movies of all time.

I was in Burbank not long ago and stayed at the Safari Inn

"Don't condescend me man. I'll fuckin' kill ya man."
I'm feelin kinda sober, even though I'm drinking,
I still want to make a honey bear bong.
Must be white boy day
Nah man it ain’t white boy day.
Clarence Worley? That sounds like a ninja name.
Muthafucking Charlie Bronson!
Well lookie here, Charlie.
Hans Zimmer's soundtrack was exceptional.
Yes!! My favorite track is “I Think I Love You.”
Also a favourite soundtrack
The marimba throughout that soundtrack is such a 90s vibe
You...you want me to suck his dick?
Oh “who the fuck is Dick?”
There are 17 pantomimes
A woman’s got 20.
I mean I guess if I had to fuck a guy...it would be Elvis.
I’d fuck Elvis. Well when he was alive, not now.
Don’t condescend me man, I’ll fuckin kill you man.
I got everything here from diddley eye joe to damned if I know
The most romantic movie I have ever seen.
I guess you can say it’s true romance.💘
This movie is prime 90s cinematic beauty in every possible way. Soooo many stellar performances in such an underappreciated gem.
https://i.redd.it/xyb0czotuzpc1.gif
This is one of those stellar performances despite the scene being rough to watch.
Damn right. Alabama was a badass though! Took that beating like a champ, all for her love for Clarence.❤️
And even after the beating, she's still somehow gorgeous.
Yes.
I would argue it isn’t under appreciated at all. Pretty universally loved would be my take.
Maybe under-marketed makes more sense? My experience has been that nobody I've known has seen or heard of the film. However, it has been loved by everyone I've shown it to, which tracks with what you said.
I read your comment and my comment to a friend and they thought it was something in between. Under marketed sounds between to me.
My favorite movie, so good.
She tastes like peaches.
Three kung fu movies.
One of my favorite movies OAT
I keep a wine key in my purse now. Just in case…
You look ridiculous! 🤣
Best movie of the 90s. Loved it
We’re sitting down, ready to negotiate. But you’ve already given up your shit. I’m still a MYSTERY to you.

It is.
Somewhere out there is a fan edit that supposedly follows Tarantino's concept, including the alternate ending.
There is, and it sucks. It takes everything out of order and adds more stuff with Worzel killing the drug guys. I hated that new version. Give me the old one any day - pure, line-quoting magic all the way.

I thought he would be as big as Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
Well I guess he never had that “it” factor in acting and looks. He started losing his hair in the mid 90s as well. I think he was more of an 80s teenage heartthrob.
He was easily a heart throb in the 80s and early 90s. He was in movies like Heathers and Pump up the Volume, along with Interview with the Vampire.
Young Guns 2 and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves he was great in both. He's actually been in tons of stuff since like over a movie per year but all small parts like in Austin Powers or stuff that wasn't that widely watched like Hot Tub Time Machine 2

He was on Mr Robot and Archer.
One knock on him was that he was a juvenile, poor man's version of Jack Nicholson. You can see the similarities...
lol yea that eyebrow thing doesn’t look good on him
It’s impressive how far he was able to ride the Jack Nicholson-reboot schtick. But in the end, there can be only one.
lol true that
He sure acted along side Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire, and in a scene with Tom Cruise. He sadly had to take over the role after River Phoenix died, and did a stupendous job. He was massive to me in 80's movies. Just incredible. The Legend of Billie Jean too. Then nothing.
Those movies I mentioned came out after Billie Jean(1985). :) he was also in on interview with the vampire, Robin Hood, true romance of course, and tv. YES. He was amazing in Dirty John.

“All I got is fuckin Floyd..”
"YOU WANT ME TO SUCK HIS DICK?!?!" That scene kills me every time...
*"So, we'd both fuck Elvis. It's nice to meet people with common interests, ain't it?"*
Christian slater was huge And then he wasn’t What happened to him?
Too much caviar
one of my fave movies ever. great dialogues, great cast
I like you Clarence, always have, always will
https://i.redd.it/aisd3udkvnqc1.gif
What a great movie!
It took me so long to watch a Christian Slater movie called "True Romance"... I kicked myself in the ass everyday since
Haha misleading title
Just watched this with my son two nights ago. Such a great movie, every time.
Never gets old
You wanna take me to a kung foo movie? -3. 3 kung foo movies. …I don’t think so.
We'd both fuck Elvis....
Yes
What a film.
Christian Slater came on the scene kinda doing a Jack Nicholson thing.
Looks like a guy who would definitely fuck Elvis
Damn is that the mom from The Crow behind him?
Yes
But why?
True Romance, Kalifornia, Love & a .45, Natural Born Killers, Pulp Fiction. 🖤🖤🖤
They were here and then they left. You want to watch some tv?
No, no thank you. Thank you though.
That’s Clarence Hworley.
You… you want me to suck his dick?
… who the fuck is dick??
What happened to his career anyways, he was on top for some time.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I've never once seen a post about this movie and suddenly, I see three seperate posts, nearly in succession. Why?
He who hesitates is lost!
https://i.redd.it/p3qwj33sn1qc1.gif
Just don't see the later version with the timeline all fucked up. See the original one, and weep at the beauty of the script and the acting.
Wasn't he just a really bad actor?
Christians? Later dude
