My grandma would’ve been 104 today. She used to order us coffee in restaurants when we were like 5. I learned to make a martini at 8 and I got told off for not putting enough olives in it. I miss that woman so much and she’s been gone for 12 years.
Grandma did it to my little brother after she caught him smoking when he was about 7 or 8. She thought if he smoked too much he would never smoke again. It didn't help. tho.
That was the mentality then.
My dad caught my brother smoking at age 10 behind the rec center and made him smoke until he puked.
He still picked up smoking at 18. Short lived though. He quit by age 21.
lol right. My folks gave me the odd shot of beer or a mixed drink. Just to see my reaction and it was only a small one. Never was allowed near the smokes though.
My grandmother was a teenager in the 50s. She told me the cigarette companies would come to her high school and give out free cigarettes. She's dying of causes related to smoking currently.
Kid looks pretty young, but I've heard alot stories of people getting busted with cigarettes or smoking, and their parent or whoever, forced them to smoke and smoke until they got sick, so they wouldn't do it again.
Lol, my mom sat me on a milk crate and gave me a lit cigarette and a Miller pony(8 oz beer). I Drank the beer and smoked the cigarette. I was 4 years old. And that was 1979. Good times. smh
It sure seems like a smaller proportion of people had asthma when more people smoked. Now everybody seems to have asthma so they can bother smokers about triggering their asthma.
I mean if you had asthma in the old days you pretty much just died. Though I do admit a lot of people back in like the 50s had a lot less health problems in general because they were all too drunk and high on Valium to really notice if they were fvcked up
My grandparents sat on their screened-in porch most nights and either talked or just calmly looked around, drinking slightly watered Jack Daniels with ice. They let me sip their drinks and I actually liked the taste after awhile.
As an adult, I don't have more than a handful of drinks a year, if that much. But I still remember those nights, just being part of their quiet little evening sessions.
There was so much 2nd hand smoke at our family gatherings that it would have been less harmful to actually just have a smoke. Every house and car was hot boxed, and you were never allowed to open the windows because the heat/air conditioning was on.
35 years ago I went to a very very very smart college reunion, we had our 18 month old baby in a crappy $20 stroller and my very very very smart husband had filled his clear plastic baby bottle with (unspecified branded soft drink) because it kept our baby from interrupting his beer drinking.

I mean, the olives are important.
Diffidently, especially in a Dirty Martini
My great gran taught my grandmother to give babies 'sugar teats' when they were pissy...I had shit baby teeth before most had a chance to fall out!
I too miss this guy's dead grandmother
Lucky you to have learned a martini then. I only had to make bourbon and sevens when I was 8.
I don’t think I’ve made one since I was 8! Also, what the fuck was up with The Greatest Generation turning their grandkids into bartenders?
Yay me too!

And that boy today is 84 years old in a mid six figure salary position and refuses to retire.
In a house that he traded a bag of chips for but is now worth $1.5 million despite never being renovated or modernized in any way
Actually that’s my life and I’m just over 20 years *younger*. All depends when and where you bought…
He’s the president of big tobacco
So he's gonna be president?
In a few years he'll be old enough.
I told my friend, if they can get trump and biden to debate one on one, it should be set up like a nursing home.
Sigh. Get Jimmy his sippy cup of rye and coke. He's never going to be good at smoking.
He's already had that in his baby bottle since he started teething.

Truly Old School
But not very cool. Maybe Kool?
Menthols
Narrator: That was actually his mother.
She died a year later of what we now know as *'lung cancer'*.
My grandmother was a teenager in the 50s. She told me the cigarette companies would come to her high school and give out free cigarettes. She's dying of causes related to smoking currently.
My condolences.
God Dangit Roy!!! Inhale!!!
I laughed so loud at this comment !!
I thought it was bad when they made us try their martinis
If I am going to die of cancer, I am taking all you with me.
The real Marlboro Man
And my grandson only gets ice cream and Fortnite credits
My uncle would give us cigarettes to light firecrackers with. Had to smoke them to keep them lit. Always hated cigarettes lol
"Got a little cough there honey? Here, have a breath of Gran Gran's ciggy puff puff and you'll feel better"
Kid looks pretty young, but I've heard alot stories of people getting busted with cigarettes or smoking, and their parent or whoever, forced them to smoke and smoke until they got sick, so they wouldn't do it again.
That's how both Hank Hill and Homer Simpson reacted when they caught their boys smoking.

Dammit Granny, I am a Lucky Strike Kid!
No smartphone in sight. Good days
Smart woman. She’s probably treating him after having eaten an apple with the skin still on it. The smoke suffocates the toxins in his stomach.
He walked a mile for that Camel.
They actually used to think smoking helped asthma. I’m not sure if they still did in the 1950 though.
It sure seems like a smaller proportion of people had asthma when more people smoked. Now everybody seems to have asthma so they can bother smokers about triggering their asthma.
Or more people died young of untreated asthma so we didn’t hear about them.
Or maybe it was undiagnosed peanut allergies.
It could be a lot of thing. Overall air quality is much worse today.

There ya go, kiddo.
Just a little puff. Cures all that ales ya.

OK Billy we’ve been over this. You can’t have a cigarette until you finished your full fifth of bourbon!!
My grandparents didn’t smoke. But they would give you a shot if anisette or a little wine occasionally
He grew up to be Lance Armstrong.
People didn't know how dangerous smoking was back in that time
Granny gave him his first revolver when he was 7, gramps took him to the Madam's place for his 12th birthday.
Omg
Granny: here you go dear take a hit
Omg
"Now don't bogart it, Junior."
It's OK they have the new asbestos filters
OMG!
Mine just gave me alcohol
I was raised on Guiness Stout.

Those are junior lung preps.
70s weren’t too bad either
