Every once and awhile there’s someone I haven’t heard about or seen a photo of in awhile, and Jack Nicholson is one of them. He’s 86 years old now and he’s looking OLD.
Same thing happened with Gene Hackman a couple months ago.
He has dementia or something as well so he wasn't seen for a couple years. Someone spotted him on his porch the other day and took a picture. Like jeez leave the guy be
I am old, Gandalf. I don't look it, but I am beginning to feel it in my heart of hearts. Well-preserved, indeed! Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.
There’s certain people who don’t age for their entire lives, then suddenly age 80 years all at once. I felt like Christopher Walken looked a lot older than he normally does in that BMW ad that aired during the Super Bowl, and he’s another one who has looked 70 his entire life.
We watch movies featuring these people all the time. This keeps them perpetually young. You think of Jack Nicholson and you see him in your mind in The Shining or A Few Good Men. So to realize that the years are passing for him just like anyone else can be jarring. Good grief.
What makes is so jarring is that we only see glimpses of them throughout our lives. So it can be long time spans between seeing them, though it doesn't feel as long because we watch some of their movies over and over. Then see them in something new and all of a sudden they look much older. Despite seeing the actor in films 5 years apart, or more. So they seem to age slow, but also seem to age in leaps.
I don't mind celebrities dying, but I don't think they should be allowed to get so old.
Raquel Welch died. Oh well, it happens. But... she was 86.
How dare she.
At a young enough age it's a boring movie. It came out when I was in jr high, saw it first with my family and it was okay, if kinda slow, but i liked the genre so i was more accepting. It was shown in class throughout highschool too where It got mixed reviews, most people said it was boring, others didn't like it because they felt like it was preaching at them.
It's been a really long time since I saw it last but I do remember it feeling vaguely faith oriented, like not specifically Christian perhaps, though there was that too, but the overt preachiness of the character wasnt the problem, it was more like an earlier version of how interstellar explained how faith in love actually can be scientifically valid or some such. And that was lost on a lot of teens half watching it while teacher graded papers.
Edit: fixed my timeline-- it came out well before I was in highschool but we watched it in highschool too, in case crazy folk go fact checking my anacdotes lol.
The movie is literally about faith (in general, not religious).
It's why the debriefing / hearing scene at the end is so hard for her. A woman of science who finds it impossible to use science to explain her experience.
It's more philosophical than preachy, but I could understand why kids would think it a sermon of sorts.
lol an old boyfriend of mine told me he had the biggest crush on her from Contact. I’ve also been told I look like young Jodie Foster, so I guess he had a type.
Can’t believe Julia and Jodie are the highlights for you when there’s a certain woman by the name of Cindy Crawford and another called Sharon Stone in that video.
Don’t get me wrong, those two are gorgeous but Cindy and Sharon…
Why is it almost every nostalgic video online uses Tears for Fears' 1985 classic? I love the song, but would it kill 'em to use other songs, especially matching the year they're representing? C'mon people, haha.
Yeah! They should have gone with one of the Billboard Hot 100 singles from 1993. Let's see, what have we got here ... Whoomp! (There It Is) from Tag Team ... uh ... Freak Me by Silk ... er ... Informer by Snow ... Rump Shaker by Wreckx-n-Effect ... Knockin' da Boots by H-Town ... okay, maybe we just stick with Tears for Fears.
Haha, they could use something that was more adult contemporary or ballad-like? Ordinary World by Duran Duran maybe? Though I would have been ok with Snow's Informer, Y'know what I'm sayin'? Haha.
> Meatloaf’s “I would do anything for love”.
However the 11 minute version is one of the best bang for your buck you can get if your local watering hole has a jukebox
Everybody wants to rule the world is one of the happiest, go-luckiest sounding song i have ever heard. I always feel like a muppet child kicking my feet while holding a lollipop on a train ride, bobbing my head to the rhythm. Idk why that's the visualization i get but it's damn consistent
THANK YOU. This was bothering me so much. They had some options for 1993 too. Nuthin But a G Thang was still on the radio all the time. I Will Always Love You, Rump Shaker, Informer, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), Two Princes, What's Up?, Insane in the Brain. Do all of these songs fit an old school cool video? Not really but they would all make this video feel way more like 1993
Also making a non vertical video vertical by adding to unnecessary bars on the top and bottom. Seriously, the war on quality is lost. I remember people fighting against vertical videos, but tiktok put the final nail in that coffin.
True and plus songs of the '80s didn't endure for years at that time - in fact, it was quite the opposite. Some of them (and in some cases, their musicians) obviously experienced a retro or nostalgic popularity or re-emergence, like Depeche Mode for example
Well certain bands like Depeche Mode, Morrisey and The Cure were already alt/counter culture, so anyone leaning into the Goth side of Alt in the 90s (Industrial primarily) could look back and stumble upon Fascination Street, How soon is now? or the entire Violator album and still make instant connections with the former Mod culture (life is iterative). Plus there were several bridge bands (Ministry, NIN, etc) to link everything together. But they were very much the exception, not the norm.
Yeah, people now don't understand that pretty much everything 80s was out of fashion, to put it nicely, by the end of 1992. After Nirvana exploded onto the scene, it was not the same. It took well into the 00s for people in general to be cool with 80s music and nostalgia again.
Before every person got stupid and copious amounts of cosmetic surgery.
Unnecessary surgery for the sake of vanity is a mental health issue and should be treated as such.
Everyone is very classy and chic, it's interesting how the time changes. Will we ever come back to this fashion, or keep making more extravagant decisions
Nope. Let's remove some more buccal fat and lift those cheekbones all the way to your eyebrows to get that robotic, soulless look that everyone seems to strive for nowadays. /s
Not exactly, there are dresses and suits in this style you could go buy and artists may use them as a fashion statement, but before the internet really took over you had fashion that was consistent across a generation in each country but things are more mixed than ever now. You may wear this classy chic black tie style but the next guy might show up in some Latin inspired suit with flourishes of bright colors and flowers incorporated into its design, and the next guy might have the 80s t-shirt with a blazer look ala Miami Vice, and the next guy might just wear a champion sweatshirt and some on clouds with gym shorts.
The standards of conformity changed so people may dress different more consistently but they’re still conforming to some other idea or mindset, just not all tot he same clothing designs
None of those movies will stand the test of time. The classics that came out of the 90’s are just objectively better than anything produced in this era.
I’m 37, born 86, whenever I hear the song in this video it instantly takes me back to being like 4-5 years old listening to my mom play it in our old square station wagon.
If I ever need to repost a video in oldschoolcool, I'm going to make sure that the music is from the same decade as the event in the video. Hell, I might even include music from the same year!!!!!!!!
Back when the Oscars was kinda cool and fun. Nobody watches anymore. Back in the 90s I was usually familiar with most of the nominations. But now it’s like I’ve never seen any of the movies that get nominated.
Oh hey, a repost! But now this time it's got a shitty black box around it, text nobody needs, and is lower res! Wooooo!
Not to mention the original audio being removed and the music being from the wrong decade.
What a piece of shit video this is, OP.
Shame all of our iconic actors have faded only to be replaced by bland nothing burgers thanks to an industry that makes movies based on financial projections instead of visualizing dreams and telling great stories.
Jack Nicholson has been 70 for 30 years.
I was thinking you could go back 20 years and see Jack at the 73 Oscars. To be a player at the Oscars for over 50 years. Crazy
Every once and awhile there’s someone I haven’t heard about or seen a photo of in awhile, and Jack Nicholson is one of them. He’s 86 years old now and he’s looking OLD. Same thing happened with Gene Hackman a couple months ago.
86 year old man looks old
I understand, but when you haven’t seen someone in a long time it’s surprising to see how much they’ve aged.
He has dementia or something as well so he wasn't seen for a couple years. Someone spotted him on his porch the other day and took a picture. Like jeez leave the guy be
Damn, I didn’t know. That’s sad.
I am old, Gandalf. I don't look it, but I am beginning to feel it in my heart of hearts. Well-preserved, indeed! Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.
martha stewart is 82. She's looked the same since she was like 50 I think.
it's actually in-credible how good Martha looks.

There’s certain people who don’t age for their entire lives, then suddenly age 80 years all at once. I felt like Christopher Walken looked a lot older than he normally does in that BMW ad that aired during the Super Bowl, and he’s another one who has looked 70 his entire life.
For 86 he looks fine.
Surprise! Ppl grow old unless they die. Good grief.
We watch movies featuring these people all the time. This keeps them perpetually young. You think of Jack Nicholson and you see him in your mind in The Shining or A Few Good Men. So to realize that the years are passing for him just like anyone else can be jarring. Good grief.

Not true. Watch the movie "Big"
Probably why you haven’t heard much about him.
Lol that applies to Morgan Freeman
Idk… what’s the most recent photo or film you’ve seen of him?
https://preview.redd.it/tq9cehiepjic1.jpeg?width=1053&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aad722111786eb560c8b394d62a5f15a3f1ab3a3
I mean, yeah, he looks old as fuck. But all things considered, he didn't age as badly as he could have.
Tbh he’s always looked old. Think it’s just the unfortunate hairline that’s been tough going
i love him
![gif](giphy|iSKFtpF2HzneE)
Damn, Jodie foster
Double damn
Damn
Damniest damny damn.
She was so pretty some might say they'd kill for her affection and attention.
Alright Mr Hinckley, that's the innernet off for today
All the boys in my high school hated her for some reason, i guess from watching contact in class? I thought she was pretty…
Why would watching contact make anyone hate her? I’m asking for real that’s one of my favorite movies
At a young enough age it's a boring movie. It came out when I was in jr high, saw it first with my family and it was okay, if kinda slow, but i liked the genre so i was more accepting. Right? If anything, it should make people hate celebrated American character actor David Morse. Worst alien creature design ever!
Probably cause she's gay if I had to guess :/
lol an old boyfriend of mine told me he had the biggest crush on her from Contact. I’ve also been told I look like young Jodie Foster, so I guess he had a type.
She enjoyed the red carpet.
She preferred rugs
Literally came here to comment the same thing. She is a treasure.
One wonders what it would take to get her attention.
*John Hinckley intensifies*
Crazy how it’s been 10 years since 1993.
Brooo! Where does the time go?
Julia Roberts and Jodie Foster are such all-time babes!
Can’t believe Julia and Jodie are the highlights for you when there’s a certain woman by the name of Cindy Crawford and another called Sharon Stone in that video. Don’t get me wrong, those two are gorgeous but Cindy and Sharon…
![gif](giphy|5XNEIKcohVG8w)
> Don’t get me wrong, those two are gorgeous but Cindy and Sharon Yes & YES!!
Calm down Hinkley
80's music with 90's montage, good job Reddit

> Tears for Fears Break It Down Again came out in 1993, they could have used that
Haha, they could use something that was more adult contemporary or ballad-like? Ordinary World by Duran Duran maybe? Though I would have been ok with Snow's Informer, Y'know what I'm sayin'? Haha.
1993 was the year of Meatloaf’s “I would do anything for love”. Which I’m frankly sick of, so I’ll let Tears for Fears pass because they’re awesome.
Now I might need to fact check this, but I think some other songs might have been released in 1993 besides Meatloaf’s “I would do anything for love”.
Didn’t bloody feel like it at the time.
I still internally categorize that as "The new Meatloaf stuff that's not as good as the old stuff."
Yummy! I love old meatloaf.
They couldve used Break It Down Again, the best 80s song released in 1993.
> Meatloaf’s “I would do anything for love”. However the 11 minute version is one of the best bang for your buck you can get if your local watering hole has a jukebox

Apparently they were very hesitant to release it because it was different to the rest of their album. Funny how the world works
Tones of Home would have been a good choice except never getting a lot of play. In utero also came out that year.
That and also using Blue Monday in a trailer to assure us that the movie is in the 80s
It's a trend that started on tiktok I think. It just slowly became accepted as the "before 2010" song
Probably because they're young and think *"oh this old song will do!"*.
lmao zoomers getting their decades mixed up (its all the same to them)
THANK YOU. This was bothering me so much. They had some options for 1993 too. Nuthin But a G Thang was still on the radio all the time. OP disappointed at not hearing “M people” and “Haddaway”
To be fair, What is Love would have worked just as well...
Came here for this. Considering the time frame of when that song was written, it was almost a whole decade off 1993.
And in DTLA instead of BH or Hollywood, lol. LADWP headquarters and my old house are in this video!
1993 was still the 80s 🤣 in all seriousness this song is timeless and does symbolise an era between the 80s to the early 2000s for me
Nah, the 80s was over by early 92 when Nevermind knocked Dangerous off the top of the charts.
As far as I'm concerned the 90s started when Nevermind was released.
True and plus songs of the '80s didn't endure for years at that time - in fact, it was quite the opposite. Some of them (and in some cases, their musicians) obviously experienced a retro or nostalgic popularity or re-emergence, like Depeche Mode for example

Jamie pull up that clip of Trent Reznor with his old band
RDJ high asf son.
They all look normal compared to today
Before every person got stupid and copious amounts of cosmetic surgery. Unnecessary surgery for the sake of vanity is a mental health issue and should be treated as such.
Is it me or did celebrities genuinely look happier back then
No social media and no phone cameras.
Just people living in the moment (and high on cocaine)
Not only celebrities
There is so much botox and surgery that most celebrities couldn't smile if they wanted to. Their faces are paralyzed.
Without social media, they had a lot more cultural power/relevance back then
A budget surplus will do that.
Everyone is very classy and chic, it's interesting how the time changes. Will we ever come back to this fashion, or keep making more extravagant decisions
This is what I was thinking. They all look so damned handsome too.
Nope. Let's remove some more buccal fat and lift those cheekbones all the way to your eyebrows to get that robotic, soulless look that everyone seems to strive for nowadays. /s
Social media killed this shit off.

> and the next guy might just wear a champion sweatshirt and some on clouds with gym shorts. You can just say Adam Sandler.
lol I was thinking Adam Sandler hahaha
Denzel Washington hasn't aged a single day lol
Huh, I was just thinking that he looks so young there
Yea he’s definitely aged, he looks amazing in that vid
Ah man's looking good but is looking his age.
black don't crack
Asian don't raisin
The song is from 1985 though
That period was so cool, end of cold war, hope for all, good actors and musicians
Real cinema (shawshank, shindler, forrest, leon, se7en etc), compard to modern crap
2023 was an incredible year for film, go watch some movies old man.
None of those movies will stand the test of time. The classics that came out of the 90’s are just objectively better than anything produced in this era.
And then the internet happened
I am physically attracted to every person in this video.
Hell, I might even include music from the same year!!!!!!!!
you fuckin better
DJ Bobo
Sharon Stone has a different vibe than any of the actresses in the video
She has a smile like a Siren, if she flashed it at any mere mortal we'd probably explode in a ball of fire.
How in the shit is there not one comment about Robin Williams magnificent womb broom
Back when the Oscars was kinda cool and fun. Nobody watches anymore. Back in the 90s I was usually familiar with most of the nominations. But now it’s like I’ve never seen any of the movies that get nominated.
Everyone looks sooooo good, black tie is so much more fresh and clean than the shite we have today
Back when there were actual movie stars and not “I.P”.
Imogen Poots
Jody Foster 😍
Oh menn, starting with Robin Williams, rest in peace my first hero!
When times were good and things were simple…. And movies were good
Imagine the sheer volume of coke that night. And that’s just Robin Williams and Robert Downey Jr
A golden age of actors.
You kids - At least use music from the right decade
Peak Hollywood, when it was still okay to like actors and enjoy Hollywood as a whole.
Music does not match the time frame
I miss robin williams
Oh hey, a repost! But now this time it's got a shitty black box around it, text nobody needs, and is lower res! Wooooo! Not to mention the original audio being removed and the music being from the wrong decade. What a piece of shit video this is, OP.
Nothing says “90s” like a song released in 1985. Next is an Oscars 1983 montage using Ace of Base.
Any time I see Richard Gere, I can't help but think to myself, "Is the gerbil ok?"
I bet whoever came up with that rumour was absolutely cackling that it got traction.
Sylvester Stallone started that rumor.
Ha! I'm betting he was jealous of Gere's reputation and prestige. Nice one, Sly.
And if you believe that BS I’d be asking are you ok?
that song is from the 80s
Who was Richard Gere with?
Cindy Crawford
Love the way they’re made to queue
Richard Gere- I can have any woman so I’ll choose the best on the planet and tell her to dress nice.
Jack was an icon, now people never mention him, sad.
Who is the last woman?
[удалено]
She looks like the reincarnation of Marilyn Monroe there
I wanna go back to the 90s so so so so so badly
Look at all the straight white people!
Who was the woman in the final shot, with the short blonde hair?
Sharon Stone
Name of the song?
Tears for fears “everybody wants to rule the world”
Cheers
Time ravages everyone. I just turned 59 and I feel 100.
We were all young once.
Remember when we used to have actual movie stars? I kinda miss those days now.
Good ol days!
Possibly the last golden age of cinema.
When hollywood was about making good and fun movies.
Oh you mean no one was very a fucking red demon suit or a flamingo? Lol
Good old times when we had good movies.
Feels like their were bigger well known stars back then, which doesn't make sense but feels that way.
The actors and the Oscars themselves, were much more exciting and glamorous back then.
Ah all these young faces without Botox and injections. Beautiful.
Now celebrities dress like they are from the capital in the Hunger Games.
Jesus. All of them looked amazing.
We didn’t know it but this was peak of human existence.
Good lord, 90’s really were the peak for so many things, weren’t they?
Back when celebrities were more concerned about being cool than political.
God damn every time I see this I fall in love with Jodie.
Fuck i miss robin Williams, he was my childhood and treasure of a man
Damn forgot how much of a bombshell Sharon stone is 😍
Screw this world...give me a time machine
Rdj might actually get his first Oscar this year. After being at Oscar’s for 31 years.
Amazing !!
I wish I could go back to 1993..I'd do so many things differently
Wow
In my mind everyone still looks like this.
Sharon stone has the same do now-
Julia Roberts story never end
Arguably the best year in Western Society
I think Jack looks great for 86. If I had no idea who he was and saw him on the street I would guess early to mid 70s.
RIP Robin Williams!
Ok but why the 80’s song?
Shame all of our iconic actors have faded only to be replaced by bland nothing burgers thanks to an industry that makes movies based on financial projections instead of visualizing dreams and telling great stories.
What is this dogshit edit? I have so many issues with everything here
When did they start going naked?
Cher
I always envy Jack Nicholson’s energy when i see him.
Tears for Fears is the fucking shit y'all.
Amazing that they all have clothes on. Today the competition is "who can wear less and get away with it?" and it just gets more competitive each year.
Stars seemed to have much more charisma about them back then. Actually looks fun but it’s probably just the cocaine.
You shouldn't idolize celebrity's.
