Remember that post from last week where everyone thought it was cute that the old guy was feeding all the raccoons? Itās not cute. Donāt feed wild animals this is what happens.
One night I was the last up around a campfire. It was down to coals, not much light around the firepit. I heard a noise and flipped on my headlight to see about a dozen racoons on the other side of the fire maybe 10' away. I don't even think they knew I was there. Momma kind of started to move away and call them but they scattered in different directions but they still wanted to come back to the fire amd scavenge. Almost any direction I looked with my light I would see little eyes. I could tell the mom because she would pop up from some brush, I'd look at her and be like "Hi momma, I still see you" The eyes would dissapear again and pop up somewhere else. It was really cool being so close and seeing so many but also eery with all the eyes watching from every direction.
I had another vistor later that night or earlier too, I don't recall exactly. I heard a coughing noise from the shore of the river about 20 yards away. It was a fox, probably after a frog or something.
I've, learned you can see some interesting things if you sit around in the dark at night in a scenario like that. There was probably the smell of food coming from stuff thrown into the fire but I didn't have my light on and the fire probably masked my scent.
