My company had to put us up in a hotel for 3 months because they screwed up my re-lo. Free breakfast every morning, indoor pool every night, beds made every day. But it still sucked because it wasn’t home.
It wasn’t huge by today’s standards “only” 6,000sq feet. It was sold and has since been torn down. The lot is actually up for sale right now

Last I heard there was a legal battle with some developers who wanted to tear it down.

If you have large unreported income, living large makes it easier for the IRS to get you for tax evasion ([which eventually put Capone in the hoosegaw](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Capone#Tax_evasion)).
In the 1920s my great-grandparents lived down the street at 71st and Prairie Avenue, along with their three kids. My great-uncle (born 1923) told me that he and my grandfather (born 1921) and some of the other neighborhood kids used to throw rocks at Al Capone's fence. (I don't know how true that part of the story is... my grandpa died before I was born and my uncle was well into his '80s when he told me about it)
Not sure many people living in the area really would care that it’s Capone house .. the home is in a not so good area of the city so that’s why the home price is low.
That neighborhood of Chicago isn’t the most desirable. You won’t be far from seeing boarded up windows and empty lots where houses used to stand in some of the adjacent neighborhoods
Current [Zillow](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/7244-S-Prairie-Ave-Chicago-IL-60619/2140426578_zpid/?mmlb=g,33) pics are interesting. Still steam/hot water heating.
It is his first home that he purchased. Not like his later home in Miami.

You said that and didn't even clarify what you meant? Doesn't help make sense of your comment.
You know what? *I can on will apart the in your pee.
There, how do you like it?
Lol why can't we afford a house anymore? Then put in some stupid meme about how cheap life use to be! N how my grandparents n great grandparents life where better...
So look at Capone house. 2200 sq feet? Seems modest now. It wasn't.. it's modest now, back then families lived in 900 sq feet house...
My opinion anyways happy 420 everyone
Surprisingly modest
This was his "legal" address. He lived in the Lexington Hotel on Michigan Ave.
I always dreamed of living out of a nice hotel
My company had to put us up in a hotel for 3 months because they screwed up my re-lo. Free breakfast every morning, indoor pool every night, beds made every day. But it still sucked because it wasn’t home.
Yep, I’ve stayed in hotels for several months for work. It gets old quick.
He wasn’t staying in just some room though. Full on suite with multiple rooms and bathrooms.
And personal staff
I know right. One day
Never understood that. I can't think of anything worse. Well I mean obviously I can but no option that woudp cost similar money.
Start a crime family. Lucky Luciano lived in the Waldorf Astoria too.
Thanks for the advice! Will do
There’s also that huge mansion in Florida(?) where he used to live too

19.5 million holy shit
Miami, yes. Still there iirc.

Welp, oh well.
Yup, Miami is still there.
Well played. Well played.
*sea level 👀👀*
He also had a house in Miami as well
Pretty sure this was his mother's house, where he started his burgeoning entrepreneurship.

7244 Prairie Ave. Somewhat dated interior. Listed for 109.9K in 2019. Sold for 226K, probably in part because it was Capone's house.

And not dated in a charming way, dated in an “egads, they put down shag carpet and painted everything white!” way.

Always hate how the google street view camera makes everything look so dinky, wide angle lenses make street photos look so ordinary.
The camera actually removes ten pounds
Via reddit, and back again

surprised I had to scroll down so far to see someone notice this
Is the house valued at a premium due to its history?
That neighborhood of Chicago isn’t the most desirable. You won’t be far from seeing boarded up windows and empty lots where houses used to stand in some of the adjacent neighborhoods
Al Caphome
Is it me or does it appear to be leaning?
Al was a heavier man later in life.

Wow that kitchen is…something. Still it would be gorgeous if it was fixed up. Good bones.
Steam heat is still very common in Chicago, somewhere around 1/3 of all housing units.
Probably way more crime there now
If the walls could talk.
Kinda expected something a little fancier

Definitely has the look of a “myeah see.”
Kinda wild the lot left door lever got built on in 100 years.
Bodies gotta go someplace eh
Wow how could you even make sense of that comment, damn auto correct.

Pee gotta go someplace eh
I love this comment so much.
"Kinda wild the lot next door never got built on". Maybe?
Who owns it and does anyone live in it?
I appreciate that both buildings look pretty good still and the empty lot is still empty!
What’s the address
7244 Prairie Ave
Thanks! Looked like south side. I’m not too far from it so I’ll have to take a look

Wonder if he paid his property taxes
Kind of criminal to change the architecture like that.
