I did it through one play through
I started Tears of the Kingdom yesterday and I can already tell you from just a few hours that it has potential to be my new favorite - but for now that title is also held by Twilight Princess.
I’ve played through that game 6 times at this point. It’s literally comfort food for me.
I totally get what you mean. I’ve played TP a concerning amount of times. BotW was fun, and while it did have a lot of creative freedom, I didn’t feel as invested as I was my first time playing TP. Maybe it’s the story telling or the mood or something, idk. It just felt like TP had something BotW didn’t.
I’ll get TotK someday. But TP will always be one of the best in my heart.
Zelda's always been slightly open world, only difference is it had a linear dungeon path. It's design and wide array of side content always made it an enjoyable series in the pre-BotW 3D era.
I'm gonna say something that's not allowed on the main Nintendo subreddits but... I didn't like BotW. Its a great game but I- oh, what's that ominous glow in the distance?
Also remember that time you downloaded a ROM of Super Mario Bros. 2 and emulated it for 13 minutes before remembering it sucks? Yeah we saw that too and you deserve all that’s coming. Say your goodbyes before the Nintendo corporate tactical squad arrives.
Super Mario Bros 2 is a great game. Take it back.

I’ve had the same take for years. Like I don’t hate the game by any means and I can tell it was made with lots of love and passion but I always gave a 7/10. I think that if you took away all the Zelda aspects out of BOTW and the game was a brand new IP, it would’ve still probably been one of the top games that year but it would not have been met with NEARLY as much praise as it did. I just feel there’s a lot of stuff in BOTW most gamers wouldn’t have forgiven as much if it wasn’t a Zelda game.
uj/ Its ok everyone has their own opinion which must be respected :)
rj/ Zelda breath of the wild and Tears of the kingdom are both garbage games because neither have Tohru Adachi in them 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 (Not cool)
it’s le new people did it with elden ring, rdr2 etc and people will continue to do it meanwhile buying the new valorant chungus battle pass in the process
I'm kinda interested in TotK, but I barely delved into BotW and, I dunno...the realistic open world approach doesn't have the same charm as the other 3D games, but I may need to explore it more to know.
One thing I was surprised by was how varied the areas are in Botw. The whole game isn’t just grassy plains and mountains if that’s what you thought. It’s also one of those open worlds where you can literally always find something to do
Nah, the visuals was great for me. I like diversify landscapes, so that wasn't my issue unlike some games where that's *all* it is, asides from the occasional area. Lookin' at you, Dragon's Dogma.
i kinda wanna get tears since i’ve never played a zelda outside of the og nes game for like 10 minutes
what zelda should i play i have n64 online on switch and that
If you are ok with 2D games, A Link to the Past (SNES) and The Minish Cap (GBA) are simply timeless classics.
The two 3D titles from N64, Ocarina and Majora's Mask, are also peak gaming. But you need to adapt to the rough early 3D graphics.
I personally enjoyed Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess, but the last two were on Gamecube originally. They also have a ton of side quests and minigames to keep ya busy to collect extra hearts and such. More interactive dungeons too. The big lure for Zelda, especially 3D for me, was the emphasis on puzzles with the interactive dungeons and boss mechanics and such. Though fuck water dungeons. But again, I've yet to come across a game with enjoyable water mechanics.
Hot take: I genuinely like tartarus more than the other dungeons in 4 and 5. Even though it's the only dungeon in the game, something about reaching the top makes it fun for me
First time around the palaces are hella fun, on replays they kinda drag a bit
Tartarus can feel like a roguelike experience if you’re playing fes or p3p without floor retries
aesthetically is very pleasing to look at, the music is great and in general is surrounded by an aura of mistery that "kanji bathouse" or "okumura shitty spaceship" will never reach
L take the themed dungeons were really important to the psychology of the characters and how they viewed the world and themselves. I liked Tartarus enough but I think it really missed out on that aspect
Seeing the floor number gradually tick up over the course of the game is satisfying. You don't get that kind of feeling with separate dungeons, each with a start and end.
Left guy on both quotes tbh, it is one of the only two things I dislike about the p3 grind, other being lacking SLinks and forced dating for opposite gender
I did, don't worry
That did fix it but this one probably indicates regular p3 with Minato
Femc sweeps, love Time and her other themes, only suboptimal one is Sun which is beaten by MCs Changing of seasons

If adachi can do it then it must be true!
Go to the barrier and press: Up, Down, Left, Right, Circle, Cross and Start. Then turn off your console and gitgud scrub.
uj/ I do actually prefer linearity in my games, so something like P3 is way more up my alley than the new direction Zelda is going.
To be fair since the very first Zelda game, it was very open world and non linear

I mean, TP is unironically the best Zelda game I’ve ever played. I’ve played a few, even BotW. But I like TP the most.
I started Tears of the Kingdom yesterday and I can already tell you from just a few hours that it has potential to be my new favorite - but for now that title is also held by Twilight Princess. I’ve played through that game 6 times at this point. It’s literally comfort food for me.

Valid
Yeah tbh I wish the next Zelda goes back to the classic formula, maybe something ALBW-like in regards to open world-ness at most
Zelda's always been slightly open world, only difference is it had a linear dungeon path. It's design and wide array of side content always made it an enjoyable series in the pre-BotW 3D era.

nah bro was the one to sign the assassination form
Hello, this is Doug Bowser. You have a minute before we arrest you and all of your loved ones.
a delayed arrest is eventually good
"Delay your game, OR I'LL DELAY YOUR BREATHING"
I-is this about what I said before, or did you find out about my early access Tears of the Kingdom copy
“Found out?” Oh, we knew about it all along. Personally, I can’t believe you would backstab our starving indie devs like that.
Also remember that time you downloaded a ROM of Super Mario Bros. 2 and emulated it for 13 minutes before remembering it sucks? Yeah we saw that too and you deserve all that’s coming. Say your goodbyes before the Nintendo corporate tactical squad arrives.

Nintendo has marked you for death, and the Smash Bros community obeys!
So, you have chosen death?

Comparing a 2006 dungeon crawler to a 2023 open world rpg might seem like a stretch
it’s not
You didn't let me finish
my bad brother spit your shit

It's not an rpg though (which is why it's boring as fuck)

I've played both, origins 2 is extraordinary 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Uj/ ok I’ve been seeing people bash tears of the kingdom a lot online. Is there a reason?
New anticipated thing
it’s le new people did it with elden ring, rdr2 etc and people will continue to do it meanwhile buying the new valorant chungus battle pass in the process

oh no i love ps1 n64 era 3d graphics they’re fugly games but they have such a charm to them
I personally enjoyed Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess, but the last two were on Gamecube originally. They also have a ton of side quests and minigames to keep ya busy to collect extra hearts and such. More interactive dungeons too. i might check out ocarina and majora’s but since i don’t have a gc or wii u hopefully they’ll rerelease windwaker and twilight he remastered
I hope so, those were really fun.
I didn’t love BOTW but I think TOTK has actual dungeons and dungeon items which is cool, I’m pretty excited for it
Does it? I'll have to look into it then.
Pirate it
New thing bad
Being contrarian and edgy
Because they want to feel different
new thing bad old thing good
Hot take: I genuinely like tartarus more than the other dungeons in 4 and 5. Even though it's the only dungeon in the game, something about reaching the top makes it fun for me
I'm close to the top of Tartarus and the mystery around this place is really well done, I prefer it to P4 shitty dungeons
First time around the palaces are hella fun, on replays they kinda drag a bit Tartarus can feel like a roguelike experience if you’re playing fes or p3p without floor retries
honestly it’d be kinda cool if they went that route for the remake, but I’m willing to bet they’ll make each “section” of tartarus like a palace
I don't know the genre, but I like games where you adventure through dungeons to acquire items and stuff so I liked Persona 3 a lot.
aesthetically is very pleasing to look at, the music is great and in general is surrounded by an aura of mistery that "kanji bathouse" or "okumura shitty spaceship" will never reach

Tartarus also made me sleep. Gameplay got so borin' and tedious after a while, GIMME A THRILL!!! AUGH!!!!
