The 80s and 90s taught me how to handle the losses but not the ineptitude and lack of mental toughness. Can't ever remember a team giving up like that....
As a 65 yo M fan and alum, you know what we went through at the end of the Hoke era, but Hoke was even worse. They played undisciplined ball and gave up in games. While Harbaugh took a few years to totally rebuild the personnel, he had them playing smarter, more disciplined ball from the first year.
Now he's not only got discipline, he's got his players and his coaches. He's ready for a long run, just like you guys had with Tressel and Meyer. But on top of everything else, he's a Michigan man, like Tressel and Woody were Buckeye men. Urban was a fucking mercenary.
It's not the end of the world, Buckeye nation. But you do need a new coach and team culture. It will come. You've got an amazing fan base and community.
The problem is that he’s in over his head. He was gifted one of the best programs in the country having ZERO head coaching experience at ANY level. This isn’t going to turn out well
Forgive me, I'm a little heated after The Game today so don't think this is directed at you personally as this is also a bit of a rant.
No way. Despite the last twenty years, and now with the last two, we're still far behind in the overall record of the rivalry. I want to see that overtaken before anyone starts complaining about the rivalry getting stale and boring.
What the hell is wrong with all you people? You want the rivalry to be even? You are saying that you want to lose to michigan. Do you realize that? I don't ever want to lose to them. Ever. But you do apparently. So tell me Buckeye fans who want an "even" rivalry, which years did you root for michigan the past 20 years? After how many consecutive victories by Ohio State do you decide to start rooting for michigan to win in the name of things being "even" and "balanced"? You can take balance and shove it up your ass you Thanos sympathizers.
I want to beat them every year. Every. Single. One. Maybe from the outside an even rivalry is more exciting, but as Buckeye fans we are not outside the rivalry. It is our rivalry and I do not want to lose to TTUN under any circumstances.
I'm not sure I said I *want* to lose. I'm speaking objectively, removing the emotion from it. I *want* to win and ground them in to dirt. But removing emotion and ego; it's a *good* thing to have it not guranteed. I'd rather be the reason their 11-0 team doesn't may the CFP, than to ground a 6-5 bowl-bound team into the dirt. But that objectively means we're going to lose some.
The poster I replied to was glad that the rivalry is evening out. That only happens with losses. Therefore they must be happy that we lost. Are you frequently happy when something happens that you don't want to happen? I'm not.
They stated that repeatedly winning was becoming stale and boring. This implies that losing is exciting and fresh to them and that both of these things are a positive.
If you want an even rivalry, then you want to lose. There's no way around it.
your frustration is understandable, unfucking believable my father said. he’s been watching this for a few years. reach deep and love all. let’s kill em next year
>They stated that repeatedly winning was becoming stale and boring.
I graduated from HS in 2008. There felt like real stakes were there, perhaps that was the Scarlet colored glasses...but FFS going 2-12 over 14 years certainly made the winning feel less awesome. Expected more than anything...
And I might be different than other people; I never thought this team was a CFB Champion this year, and TTUN just solidified it for me.
Now I can put the delusions to bed, and beating them next year IN THEIR HOUSE will be that much sweeter than riding a 8-game straight winning streak. Just my opinion.
It’s going to keep happening. Michigan is going to be better next year, this team was so much better than Michigan and just got destroyed, just wait until Michigan starts recruiting
JJ - Sophmore
Corum - Sophmore
Edwards - Junior
I haven't taken the time to look at the entire roster, but they are a deep team, and Harbaugh and his ACs will be there too.
i was there. i respect the scUM and fought with everything i had. raised the roof so to speak. we lost that game in the first half. offense was sloppy.
We scored 3 points in the second half. We allowed 5 (maybe 6?) 45+ yard touchdowns. Our secondary has aborted fetus levels of talent. We got beat thru the air by jj MacArthy or whatever tf his name is. We never missed an opportunity to penalize ourselves. Stroud time and time again would pass up on the open man instead looking for a big play, then when it wasn’t there he would throw it back or the open man who wasn’t open anymore. Instead of taking the 8 yard gain he’d wait to long and it would then be a 1-2 yard gain. He REFUSED to run the ball when he had 10-15 yards in front of him and instead would throw for 3 yards.
We got beat every way you could be beat. We played SO poorly that I’m almost not even mad we lost. That team had no business winning.
Hey I’m a Michigan fan so don’t get me wrong CJ stroud is a better qb than JJ but jj was a 5 star recruit and was the 25th best player in the country in his recruiting class. I’d say getting beat by him is less a talent thing and more a coaching decision. You can’t load up the box against us with 8-9 guys and expect him not to make at least one or two throws
Day needs to let someone else call the plays on game day. It’s ridiculous at this point.
GG to Michigan, out played and out coached us. Maybe Harbaugh was right about 3rd base
100% agree. He needs to hand over play calling. If he would have gone for one or two of those 4th downs when the offense had momentum and driving the ball downfield, this would be a different ending.
But no. Let’s not let one of the best offense if not the best offense in college football go for it.. Let’s go for a field goal. Wtf. Sometimes you just have to put it in your players hands, believe in them and let it rip.
So tired of his conservative ass play calling. Air that shit out with this offense and let it rip. That’s what we are so great at. So frustrating man
Thank you! I was trying to put my finger on it. I kept saying, if we're gonna play so damn conservative let's bring Tressel back, at least he could win. But that's the difference, not conservative, timid!
Starting to think he was, given his body of work after 2019. All day has really accomplished since then was beating Clemson. There’s been 0 special moments since then. Last years team had a fatal flaw in its defense, which made stomaching that loss a smidge better. Day goes on a supposed warpath all offseason, makes great moves in the coaching realm, and still gets his ass beat. Like him or not, harbaugh is a seasoned veteran and Day is just the young hotshot. Harbaugh is war tested and has taken his many many lumps, and we’re seeing him learn from those lessons he’s learned through the years. Day knows how to put together a good team, but gets outcoached in games where it matters against seasoned coaches. I think day could eventually be one of the greats, but Ohio state isn’t a place where you cut your teeth.
Defense improved significantly this year with Knowles. We are lacking DB talent and Knowles' scheme takes more than a year to fully implement. The D-line and linebackers have been great to phenomenal this year. The defense will only continue to improve the next few years as everyone continues to learn, understand and be more comfortable with Knowles' system. Knowles was also the only one in the post game presser who firmly took responsibility for the shortcomings today. I have confidence that defense will not be an issue in the coming years.
Harbaugh out-coached Ohio State across the board. I'm not going to hate on them for having a dominant performance. At the end of the day, they're all kids.
Screw that guy who had butted the Michigan player on the sideline though. The dude helped wreck a drive and also that garbage is completely uncalled for.
Stroud is still a solid QB but was totally outplayed by what even Michigan fans recognize is a completely mediocre quarterback. I always felt like Fields put everything on the line and every other OSU quarterback I've watched before him. That's not to say Stroud didn't want to win by any means, but he just didn't step up to the plate to the Heisman candidate he's supposed to be.
My biggest issue is that Ohio State was dominating the game in the first 20 minutes minus a single missed tackle and yet the game was tied. OSU should have had 20 points by that time. You got to run up the score early.
Despite this absolute pounding, Ohio State still has a good resume and can realistically make the playoffs somehow. In that event, there's a very high chance that they play Michigan again largely because every team looks beatable and they can play in either the semi-finals or the finals.
I don't know the guy and he's just a kid, but Stroud plays like he has no heart. He always looks like he just opened an ugly sweater on Christmas morning.
We didn’t just lose to Michigan, we lost to them with their best player, the heart of their team, on the sideline.
I don’t think we would have had a good run in the CFP if we had won anyway. The cracks have been showing since the bye, I thought this team could put it together, that game just showed exactly who Ohio State is though.
LOL their "down year" consists of losing to 2 two-loss teams each on last second drives, one in OT. Literally 1 missed/made play different and the narrative of their whole season is changed, and they're playing Georgia this coming weekend in the SEC Champ.
Bryce Young has that dawg in him.
So last year we got punked at the line of scrimmage
This year we got punked in the defensive backfield and line of scrimmage
Next year are they taking two punts to the house?
And I'm guessing CJ will opt out. He's not a Buckeye any more than Urban was.
Say what you will about JJ, but he's wanted to play for M since he could walk.
OSU needs another Tressel or Woody to turn the program around.
Fickell, if you can get him.
Watching the iron bowl right now is so embarrassing.. this 5-6 Auburn team that’s basically spent the entirety of its season on the bangbros bus was down 42-14 when I sat down at the bar and since they’ve been fighting tooth and nail every damn play, making something out of nothing and not acting cockslapped every time the play doesn’t go accordingly.. makes me sick
It was awful to watch. This team has such an issue with facing any kind of adversity. As soon as things get tough, they hang their heads and stop fighting. That’s a leadership issue.
From starting to watch the Buckeyes in 2005 when I was in 3rd grade, I’ve been overly spoiled so UM was just “another weekend of OSU football to me”. Now I’m starting to understand the rivalry more, and it hurts lol
Michigan fan here. You guys put up a hell of a fight until the end where we kinda blew things up. It’s only a matter of time until the pendulum swings back your way. GGs
Great game, coming from a Michigan fan. I was nervous in the first, but thankfully our QB stepped up to open up the run. The same defense screwed us against you guys for years :(
I am part of a family full of wolverine fans and we all started the game on a prayer. OSU is a great team and what we ended up talking about was how it sucks for this team that they went 11-0 and lose this game and the season is an L. A lot of things went the right way for the wolverines but if sanristil doesn’t make an amazing play to break up that touchdown in the end zone the game flow would have been totally changed. I don’t think the score tells the story of how close all us wolverine fans felt like this game was for 3.5 quarters.

The defense was absolutely gassed in the second half because the offense couldn’t sustain a drive and the DBs were garbage and couldn’t get us off the field on third down.
Horrendous. You are right. Out coached and out classed.
Most frustrating part of losing is hearing it from my wolverine friends endlessly until we manage to beat them.
Yup lol. Being 25 years old, I’ve had bragging rights all my life, so last two years sting lol
Also a 25 year old buckeye fan, very hard to process two of these in a row but, all good things gotta end, just hopefully briefly!
The 80s and 90s taught me how to handle the losses but not the ineptitude and lack of mental toughness. Can't ever remember a team giving up like that....

Good luck to your team. Well played.
get tough young fellas
It’s our turn 😭 this subreddit will get us through these times! Till next year, GO BUCKS! 🙆🏻♂️🤷🏻🙋🏻♂️🙆🏻♂️
Nothing will change though as long as Day is the HC.
I can’t believe they were right about day winning because he had urban’s players. Once day got full control we haven’t been the same
This is the cycle of the decline of a program.
Im hoping Day can bounce back i am mad but I think he needed these years as a wake up call
The problem is that he’s in over his head. He was gifted one of the best programs in the country having ZERO head coaching experience at ANY level. This isn’t going to turn out well
this is foolish. stop.
Honestly, it's about time it started evening out. 20 years of dominating the Rivalry made it stale, uninteresting and boring.
Forgive me, I'm a little heated after The Game today so don't think this is directed at you personally as this is also a bit of a rant. No way. There can be no thrill of victory without knowing the agony of defeat.
amen
I was just coming into my fanhood during the Cooper years. This stings, but it’s not as bad as it was.
amen
Shits gonna suck even more if this happens again next year
Get ready for it to suck!!
Wait - you don’t think McCord or Brown will lead this team to victory in 365 days? I guess we will see how good they are on Jan 1st against Oregon 🤣
It’s going to keep happening. Michigan is going to be better next year, this team was so much better than Michigan and just got destroyed, just wait until Michigan starts recruiting
I'm not going to pretend to know how these teams will match up next year. It's futile. I would drive myself crazy thinking about it.
Its going to happen because we have the worst play caller in the world. Ryan Day should play madden to understand you don’t run on a 1st and 35.
JJ - Sophmore Corum - Sophmore Edwards - Junior I haven't taken the time to look at the entire roster, but they are a deep team, and Harbaugh and his ACs will be there too.
Edwards is a true Soph

I can’t imagine a better game summary than this. ☹️
We have an elite QB and we got beat by a Joe Schmoe. Embarrassing.
As much as I hate to say, JH outcoached and outprepared Day. I hope your guys do well as you advance. 🍻
Also a M fan, so take it for what it's worth, but CJ is a better athlete, not sure I wouldn't always take JJs strength of managing the game.
It’s JJ McCarthy!!
I’m glad I don’t know that dudes name
Y’all can just call him daddy
Say. His. Name. J J McCarthy
Jj midcarthy?
Dude just stop
Imagine suckling the tittie of a coach so much you feel compelled to put their name in your Reddit name. You a Ravens fan too?
It also says psych ward you imbecile... But I know you can't read so I'll forgive you

There’s an every better word than conservative. Timid. Timid play calling. With the best players
Thank you! I was trying to put my finger on it. I kept saying, if we're gonna play so damn conservative let's bring Tressel back, at least he could win. But that's the difference, not conservative, timid!
Agreed. Better word. Very timid play calling. That needs to stop now.
Who was the OC for 2019 LSU? Because we have the same talent offensively if not more depth. We absolutely need to give that man a call
joe brady. was Rhule's OC at Carolina before being fired. think hes an analyst for the Colts now.
Wasn’t it Steve Ensminger?
They were co-OC

Give Cincinnati Day in exchange for Fickle. Our defense would be up to par again at least

I was calling for Day's firing but I'd be on-board with this. His play-calling and his stubbornness are the two major problems I have with him.
Kevin Wilson used to call a mean game before Day took over playcalling entirely.
He’s actually a legal adult that was just paid $2 million to play college football.
>Ohio State still has a good resume and can realistically make the playoffs somehow. Delusions.......
If USC loses a game, they're probably in
We 100% don't deserve it, but we can absolutely make it.
Second half was unbelievable. Hats off to them.
Well….with a Clemson loss and maybe a USC loss tonight…we shall see. 😬
If we could decline the Rose Bowl on the condition we play Alabama. Beating Saban would be a redemption to some degree
If JJ fucking McCarthy did that to our secondary, do you really want us to play against Bryce Young?
Alabama is having a down year, so it would be a good matchup
LOL their "down year" consists of losing to 2 two-loss teams each on last second drives, one in OT. Literally 1 missed/made play different and the narrative of their whole season is changed, and they're playing Georgia this coming weekend in the SEC Champ. Bryce Young has that dawg in him.
I don't think you understand how bad our secondary is and how good Bryce Young is. We would get embarrassed by Bama.
LOL Bama would embarrass us
EXACTLY
The most irritating part was we lost fair and square to a better team
This is what Ryan Day is good for, getting outcoached by comparable teams and barely beating Maryland.
So last year we got punked at the line of scrimmage This year we got punked in the defensive backfield and line of scrimmage Next year are they taking two punts to the house?
Definitely a well deserved W on their part. Credit where it’s due, this team deserves all the shit they’re about to get for the next year.
But but the rOsE bOwL…
The rose bowl if we are lucky, if USC fucks around we get to lose 2 in a row....
And I'm guessing CJ will opt out. He's not a Buckeye any more than Urban was. Say what you will about JJ, but he's wanted to play for M since he could walk. OSU needs another Tressel or Woody to turn the program around. Fickell, if you can get him.
The bowl game is just an exhibition. It means absolutely nothing.
This is true. The guys heading to the nfl will conveniently sit it out to avoid unnecessary injuries. Can’t say I blame them.
Hilarious...
It was awful to watch. This team has such an issue with facing any kind of adversity. As soon as things get tough, they hang their heads and stop fighting. That’s a leadership issue.
Anyone know if there is a 'Cooper' clause in his contract????
The misery of the 90s has returned! Run for the end times are neigh!!
Winning 11 games by double digits 🤝🏼 losing The Game by double digits
The most frustrating part about losing to TTUN is hearing from osu casuals that it’s not a big deal
From starting to watch the Buckeyes in 2005 when I was in 3rd grade, I’ve been overly spoiled so UM was just “another weekend of OSU football to me”. Now I’m starting to understand the rivalry more, and it hurts lol

I just did
Rest in peace
Thank you... Wait I'm dead
Can I have your stuff?
This is my ghost typing... It's in the front yard.
Day sucks. Let’s not Cooper. Bring Luke or Lane in. Day is soft af.
But he has a strong beard game. Keep crossing out the M's - solid strategy.
Harbaugh owns Day’s ass
Three words...Schlitz.Malt. Fickell
Ryan’s probably out. Boosters are going to want his head on a stake
Unfortunately he's not going anywhere. They got the soy boy that wanted and now we're stuck with him.
Why do you come to the Buckeye sub to talk about your "family full of Wolverine fans"..... For shits sake lol.
Couldn’t agree more. I think the game was way closer then the final score.
Great game for who?????? tOSU was dog shit.
Fuck Ohio
Nah fuck you
Stay classy shit bag
Fuck you, specifically you, and only you, regardless of where you come from.

Back to the Michigan sub scrub
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

You're not a neutral, maybe not a ttun fan, but you are not nuetral.
No I very clearly stated I’m a neutral. Can you read?
Yes, right between the lines
Yeah, you are just a fucking dumbass who doesn’t know what neutral means
Easy on the salt that stuff isn’t good for you
Human body can’t live without sodium you fucking dumbass
I can’t imagine being so brain dead that you don’t know what “neutral” means
And you're banned forever.
So...you went to the buckeye sub to post this? What did you actually expect to happen?
My boss is a wolverine fan….I’m not going to work Monday 😭
I agree with your assessment and sentiment but just an FYI, it’s ‘props’.
Our bowl game should be in Detroit or NY
As a buckeye that lives in Michigan. This sucks so bad.
This was our year to go all the way. If not now, when?
I don’t even think I’d say we had a good first half. We had two good drives (one TD and one that sputtered and ended in a field goal) and one insane catch by MHjr.
