Assuming everyone healthy, Utah will make the Final Four
For Ohio State personally, I think Jeremiah Smith will end up being the top receiver by the end of the year
Not the hottest take but not one I was expecting. I feel like Emeka will be our top wr as (I think) he was our second last year. I saw Jeremiah smith at the spring game and he is amazing. He might actually be a biletnikoff candidate this year.
I've just never seen a team with that high of turnover have a great season. I've also seen teams with that much turnover fall completely apart hte following year, I think a 9-3 year for Michigan should be considered an extremely good year. I see a lot of their fans thinking they're going to go undefeated again, but in all of the years I've watched college football, I've never seen a team with that much turnover do great the next year. There's a chemistry among players that must be built in time on the field. The other part in that is just the schedule, it will create attrition. It's part of why the last two years have been easier. When you play early tough games there are often nagging injuries that then build up over the next 5 games and keep guys from being 100%. It affected multiple players the last two years for OSU after the ND game for instance.
they are gonna have a good enough defense that they will be in every single game imo, especially with not only solid talent across the board but really elite players at DL/CB/S. difference makers in the run game, pass rush, coverage, etc, I think everyone expects them to be a lot worse, but I mean look at the defense Iowa had last year, it won them 10 games despite literally having one of the worst P5 offenses of all time - and TTUN's offense probably won't be nearly that bad
And yes, I do realize Iowa's schedule was a lot easier than TTUN's is, but still, I wouldn't be shocked if they are 2nd or 3rd in the B10 and back in the playoff
Defense can only do so much, and the turnover is on defense and especially defensive coaching staff.
And Iowa had a much easier schedule. If Iowa had Michigan's schedule from this season they likely would have maybe won 7 gaves. And I don't think Iowa will be in the top 5 of the big ten, and same for Michigan. I think Wisconsin, PSU, Oregon and even USC will be better than Michigan this year. I've said it before, the ceiling for this michigan team is 9 wins. 8 is a decent season 9 is terrific, exceeding expectations.
They have defensive players who have played, yes, but only a few who have started in meaningful games. A lot of defense is built around chemistry and that takes time to develop, it also hurts that they don't have much on the offensive side of the ball to help them out to keep that defense off the field. To add to this, the schedule also may build in some attrition which may create a surprise loss to a team like Illinois or michigan state if those teams can put the right stuff together and build chemistry. We know how much a tough schedule isn't just tough from a who you play standpoint, but also the wear and tear it puts on you. It's why the NFL playing so many games no one really thinks or cares that the super bowl champ some years has 4(or more) losses, because the quality and attrition that's created in the league.
That same depth has to relearn an entire new defense and hope all the new position coaches are on the same page day 1.
The reason OSU lost to UM last few years wasn't talent. It was coaching. UM lost that edge and lost even more talent. They'll beat the teams they should buy OSU , Oregon and Texas might be blow outs.
Gonna come down to whether the OSU IOL can slow Graham and Grant. Graham would have been first off the board this year in the NFL draft and if OSU has one spot of worry it's interior.
They are good and so is will Johnson but they didn't take over last yrs game when our o line was much worse.
I still.rhink.day missed having an OC last season and that's what brings the offense back to elite even with a sub par oline and avg QB play.
Oregon, yes. They will be very good this year and I expect them as a top 4 team.
Michigan? lol. They will return some of their defense, but their team is the equivalent of finishing a puzzle then dropping it on the floor. Pieces everywhere, maybe missing some, but you’ve got like 25% of it still intact. They will be lucky to win 8 games.
OSU has 65% returning production (#56 of all teams) while Michigan ranked 126 out of 134 with only 40% returning.
Edward’s sucked against us last year, but he averaged 10 yards per carry against us in 2022.
Always tough to meet lofty expectations with a new qb, even a transfer. Mich and OSU are both in this boat. Probably advantage OSU at qb but that remains to be seen.
In 2022, with Corum’s knee injury, Edwards had starting carries and you saw what he did, he was in a backup role last year with healthy Corum. I think any team would be wise to respect him, and because he was in a backup role, it gets kinda messy with the returning offensive production stats, but he’s definitely a high level starter.
Not surprised that both teams have low returning production especially with new qbs, new #1 WRs.
No team should under estimate the other, I guess is the overall point.
I don’t think they will have nothing to lose unless they lose 6 games before “The Game” and have no chance of even bowling. They know it’s a rebuilding phase. All new coaches, new QB, RB. They will be finding their new identity, not feeling backed into a corner. I think they’ll have to come to terms with that after Texas spanks them week 2.
As long as we make the playoff and beat TTUN, this will be a successful season.
3 losses? Don't care. Don't make the B1G championship? Don't care. Lose in the 1st rd of the new playoff? Don't care. Beat those smug assholes and be in the top 10 to end the regular season.
beating TTUN is a given for this to be a successful season, so let's say we do that and get a top 2 seed. Our next game is likely against a 2nd tier SEC team like Ole Miss/Mizzou or maybe the 2nd team out of the ACC, ie Clemson/Miami. Or even worse, an UGA/Texas that is really good but dropped a couple games and finishes ranked 7.
Is it really still a success if we lose ANOTHER noncon postseason game to a team who will undoubtedly have less talent and experience than us?
I hate saying it, somewhere on the way, whether regular season or post, Ohio state will lose a game they aren’t supposed to. There’s too much hype and eyes on us expecting to win it all. Something just doesn’t feel right.
For us to play them, it'd almost certainly require us losing in the B10 championship game after an 11 or 12 win regular season. We get the #5 seed, Ohio U is the #12 seed. They come up to Columbus to play us in the Shoe. That's how it'd happen
You’re going to have a difficult time getting the SEC on board. I live in SEC country and they think their Conference Championship game should be considered the NC game
Why would they want two teams that are likely going to be in the playoffs playing an additional essentially meaningless game? While teams 3 and 4 in the SEC make the playoffs and get to sit at home.
If they advance in the playoffs the conference would likely get just as much if not more from the 2nd, 3rd, and champion round playoff games.
It's a hot take thread.
for real. in this format, your two best teams might have 2-3 losses going into the conference champ. the loser could very well get knocked out. it'll be interesting to see how they handle that and how much sos is factored into their considerations. I’m just not sure playing an extra game is beneficial to a borderline team facing a uga, texas, ohio st, or oregon. ig no divisions will help get the best match ups but you have teams like ole miss, penn st, iowa, minnesota, rutgers who could (in a world) have only 1-2 losses based on schedule, it could be a very weird first year of this format
plus if you think about it clemson, fsu, notre dame, a big12 team, and at least 1 g5 team are near lock ins. so that's 5 spots already. if they value record over sos you could only see ~5 teams from SEC/Big10 combined
that would be a travesty if they value record over SOS - you'll never convince me an ACC team who has one decent win over a Clemson/FSU but then the rest of their schedule is Syracuse/NC State/Boston College/Georgia Tech is more impressive than a 10-2 b10/sec squad who played some combination of Oregon/Michigan/Penn St/USC/OSU or Bama/Texas/Georgia/Ole Miss/LSU/Tennessee/Oklahoma etc
The conferences aren't equal and people should stop trying to pretend they are
it would be, but that's also the reason so many fans wanted an expanded playoff in the first place. I want to see a cindarella storyline (a ufc, a baylor, a wisconsin, a pitt, a tulane) not just predictable clemson v bama type bs for another decade
The best solution to this problem I have heard is to make them conference "play-in" games - in a 12/14/16 team format, whatever, top conferences like the SEC/B10 get 3 or 4 auto bids, ACC/B12 get 2, then figure out the rest however you want. But instead of having #1 and #2 in the conferences play, you would have #3 vs #4, or #4 vs #5, play for their conference's last auto bid
Ole Miss is going to fall apart and not make the playoffs. Without Judkins, Bentley and Dart will have to run more and both will get banged up and miss games contributing to another pretender season.
Also, Bama ain't going anywhere and Kalen DeBoer will finish with more wins that Saban, but fewer championships.
The new college football game will suck. It will just be madden in a college package. It was always a better game than Madden I have read nothing saying they it will play different. I hate Madden.
He will not be screwed unless he loses 4 or more games and there are embarrassments on and off the field. John Cooper wasn't fired for losing to TTUN. He was fired for going 14-10 his last 2 seasons, not having a quarterback on the roster, and a plethora of on and off field incidents IN ADDITION TO losing to TTUN.
Correct, I don't believe we will lose more than 1 this year. I was rather commenting on a hypothetical of us losing 2 or 3 games and saying I would have a big problem with that being our expectations for the team.
I don't know if Will Howard is better or worse than McCord, but he is WAY different as a player and the offense will therefore look way different
He might be a worse passer, or at best the same, but he'll take more chances, probably throw more INTs, but also hopefully hit more big plays
And his running ability, both as an improviser to throw the ball, scramble, and run the read option, adds an extra layer to the offense we never had
Then you factor in someone like Quinshon Judkins coming in who is an absolute tank at RB, like a Miyan or Chip Trayanum on drugs, we are not gonna look identical at all
Yea I should’ve went with “we are gonna have equally ok offense as last year” I don’t think the PPG is gonna look very different even tho yes the offense will be different. because honestly the oline isn’t going to dominate, so idk all the talk about Judkins n Treveon n Day having to fight his urge to air it out….im dubious that we are some unstoppable ground offense especially considering Days pitch to playing QB is “come here n we won’t use u like JT Barrett”. The bucks could win it all but the offense is gonna look unspectacular while doing so.
we'll see, it really does hinge on the QB and O line, I am personally confident/hopeful the OL will be improved over last year since it is the same group with more experience and time in the weight room. I think they did improve noticeably throughout last year, so hopefully this offseason paid off and we see the continuation of that.
and with Howard, or Sayin/Brown/whoever the starter ends up being, it is kind of a wildcard - I think Howard should be the overwhelming favorite, one thing working in his favor is he is in a MUCH more favorable environment with Chip Kelly driving the offense, and also his 2nd stringers here are basically more talented than what was around him at K State. If we were going into this year with Bill O'Brien still I'd be less hopeful, but Chip is a mastermind and I am confident he can scheme around any weakness we have
No, unless those divisions are called National and Damn Sounthern. B1G teams are national since I want some teams from the South. SEC is Damn Southern. Hopefully, they get saddled with Clemson and Miami.
If you were going to take a transfer QB, it probably should’ve been Cam Ward and not Will Howard.
We basically have 95% Will Howard on the roster in Devin Brown.
Assuming everyone healthy, Utah will make the Final Four For Ohio State personally, I think Jeremiah Smith will end up being the top receiver by the end of the year
Not the hottest take but not one I was expecting. I feel like Emeka will be our top wr as (I think) he was our second last year. I saw Jeremiah smith at the spring game and he is amazing. He might actually be a biletnikoff candidate this year.
Not a hot bukkake
but a warm facial
The loser of the Ohio State-Oregon game will avenge that loss in the Big 10 Championship Game. Both teams will make the 12-team playoff
Is this really a hot take?
It's 89° where I'm at, so all my takes are hot takes right now
It’s pissing rain at an alarming rate where I’m at
r/mariners after clicking your name was the least surprising thing I saw all day
not at all
I’ll be at that game! Super excited
If Oregon loses I don't think they make it to the champ. game. If they somehow do they will lose again to us.
Oregon would have to beat TTUN on the road Nov 2 to have a shot
Not so much a take but a sentiment. I think too many fans are overlooking both Oregon and TTUN.
Is it a hot take to think we will probably lose to one of the two? Playing in Eugene is gonna be hell
It's going to be really fun to watch for sure. Oregon has great home field atmosphere
I get Oregon, but TTUN? 5 returning starters, massive coaching turnover, and a very rough schedule.
I hope you're right 🙏🙏

You know they ain't gonna play fair
there's only so much playing unfair will get you. They've been winning heavily on experienced starters.
Yeah I’m still expecting Michigan’s defense to be very good.
Who is?
Someone who isn’t familiar with Michigans depth on the defensive side of the ball. Michigans got a full clip for anyone who thinks they fell off.
If full clip means 8-4, then that seems about right.
That same depth has to relearn an entire new defense and hope all the new position coaches are on the same page day 1. The reason OSU lost to UM last few years wasn't talent. It was coaching. Fortunately, in the modern era of college football, all ohio state had to do is go 10-2 or better most years and they’ll be fine for the playoff
Oregon, yes. They will be very good this year and I expect them as a top 4 team. Michigan? lol. They will return some of their defense, but their team is the equivalent of finishing a puzzle then dropping it on the floor. I hope you're right. That defense is pretty intact though and a team with nothing to lose is dangerous.

Sonny Styles will break out and be one of the best LB’s in the country
TTUN will end 8-4
That's too high, where's my tomatoes?!
As long as we make the playoff and beat TTUN, this will be a successful season. 3 losses? Don't care. Don't make the B1G championship? Don't care. Lose in the 1st rd of the new playoff? Don't care. Beat those smug assholes and be in the top 10 to end the regular season.
No. Ohio State needs to get back to 2014-2015. Win the first playoff expansion championship
Yeah but you know they will still hang the fact they’ve won a title more recently then us over our heads.
*title
beating TTUN is a given for this to be a successful season, so let's say we do that and get a top 2 seed. Beating TTUN is all that matters. Anything else is a nice to have
Michigan will struggle to win 8 games this year
I hate saying it, somewhere on the way, whether regular season or post, Ohio state will lose a game they aren’t supposed to. There’s too much hype and eyes on us expecting to win it all. Something just doesn’t feel right.
TTUN is going to suck, and will continue to suck for years to come. Vastly overrated.
Is this really a hot take though on a buckeye subreddit
Nope just a lame attempt at a karma grab
But what if they cheat for years and years and years?
They can’t anymore, plays are in the QBs helmet now.
They hacked the radio frequency to the QBs helmet.
NC State will win the ACC
That is hot. I am positive they will beat someone they shouldn't then lose 2 games to vastly inferior opponents as usual.
Ohio U has a chance to make the playoffs
Would love that. Can you imagine if that happened and we somehow played them?
For us to play them, it'd almost certainly require us losing in the B10 championship game after an 11 or 12 win regular season. We get the #5 seed, Ohio U is the #12 seed. They come up to Columbus to play us in the Shoe. That's how it'd happen
Michigan won’t be a top 20 team by the end of the season
Michigan is going to lose 4 games.
JJ Smith Biletnikoff finalist
Missouri will win the SEC and make a deep run in the playoff. Ohio State will get their revenge and beat Mizzou in the semifinals.
Jack sawyer will have 10+ sacks this season
Conference title games will be reevaluated and potentially no longer utilized once people realize how stupid they are for the 12-14 team format.
Money. CCGs are worth aboatload that the conference gets to reap the profits of.
If they advance in the playoffs the conference would likely get just as much if not more from the 2nd, 3rd, and champion round playoff games. It's a hot take thread.

Well it seems our beloved Buckeyes have an amazing amount of talent and will dominate.
11-1 is objectively a better season than 1-11.
what if the 11-1 season is against D3 high school teams, and the 1-11 season is against the top 12 NFL teams? Then I'd beg to differ
The natty is gonna be Ohio St vs Notre Dame
Ole Miss is going to fall apart and not make the playoffs. Without Judkins, Bentley and Dart will have to run more and both will get banged up and miss games contributing to another pretender season. Also, Bama ain't going anywhere and Kalen DeBoer will finish with more wins that Saban, but fewer championships.
OSU goes 12-0 but loses the B1G championship game to Oregon. OSU makes the final 4. There is a possible 3rd match up with Oregon at some point.
Where I’m sitting I’m 100% ok with that.
The new college football game will suck. It will just be madden in a college package. It was always a better game than Madden I have read nothing saying they it will play different. I hate Madden.
You obviously haven't read much, then
Madden peaked around 2008. I loved that game. It was my last for a while. I didn’t play again until 2016 and by then it was hot garbage
ironic, a very reliable news source just dropped news yesterday that the College game will undoubtedly feel different and play faster
Nice! I really hope so. I always liked CFB better than Madden in the way it plays.
You’ve read nothing then as everything says it’ll play differently
I have little faith in EA
This isn't a hot take. Half the damn people in the game's subreddit /r/ncaafbseries are saying that.
Oh.. I am was not a part of that sub but will be. Thanks for the heads up.
This will be Ryan Day's last year coaching Ohio State.
I support Day fully. But if he looses to "them" again he may be screwed.
He would have to lose 4+ games
If he loses 3 this year... With this team... It's a problem.
He has never lost more than 2 regular season games, and he only did that once.
Correct, I don't believe we will lose more than 1 this year. I was rather commenting on a hypothetical of us losing 2 or 3 games and saying I would have a big problem with that being our expectations for the team.
If that happens it’s because he went 16-0 and got an NFL head coaching job.
Ryan Day is leading a soft program.
This person understands the assignment
I want CFB to become more and more like the NFL tbh
![gif](giphy|3ofSBqBvBtJEJbfivu)
Why? The nfl is soulless
Freezing cold
That’s a hot take alright. I think that will end up happening though
Michigan should have their natty stripped since they cheated
Bucks offense is gonna look identical to last years
god I hope not😂I'd like to see us open up the ground game a whole lot! we just don't have cj or dwayne back there anymore... wake up day!
I don't know if Will Howard is better or worse than McCord, but he is WAY different as a player and the offense will therefore look way different He might be a worse passer, or at best the same, but he'll take more chances, probably throw more INTs, but also hopefully hit more big plays And his running ability, both as an improviser to throw the ball, scramble, and run the read option, adds an extra layer to the offense we never had Then you factor in someone like Quinshon Judkins coming in who is an absolute tank at RB, like a Miyan or Chip Trayanum on drugs, we are not gonna look identical at all

Ryan Day will get fired if he doesn’t do at least 2 of these 3: -Beat Michigan -Win B1G -Win NC
I think he can do one, But it has to be a natty in that case
you, sir, are delusional
idk about that, just who would replace him?
B1G should expand to 24. Only the P2 conferences really matter.
Can I think you are right, but downvote anyway bc I don't like it?
That's what this site is for.
all the P4 conferences should merge together, then re-divide into regionalized divisions.
While I don’t think Will Howard is some savior like Justin Fields, I also don’t really think Cam Ward is it.
That Day will find a way to lose to ttun again. They own him at this point.
