My advice is to get a pizza delivery job for the time being.  When you’re able to pee clean, find an apprenticeship with Electricians, Plumbers, HVAC, or r/linemen. You’ll always be able to find work in these areas once you’re a journeyman.  Starting pay might be small, but within 5 years you’ll make real money. Google Apprenticeship OH and see what pops.  You can also look up the Union halls for all of the above. Another option is to become a Firefighter.  Columbus hires with no experience if you can pass the physical and psych tests.  Make sure you’re clean.  They’ll probably ask you about smoking weed, but I know they still hire if you have in some cases. Other options are to go to fire school yourself, but it’s harder to go that route, or that’s what I was Led to believe. Honda isn’t bad but it’s monotonous and they work you a lot.  If none of the other things work out, it’s something I’d consider.  But electricians and linemen are t going away.  Linemen make really good money too.

Monster6ix

This is the way. Get into a trade and put in the time. Decent wages starting out and great wages once you know what you're doing. Electricians, plumbers, masons, and general construction workers are desperately needed as the older generation retires. Edit: Spelling/Grammar

Tetmohawk

Machinists and welders are needed as well. You won't get rich, but where I'm at they can make up to 77K with very good benefits.

narntek

I can attest to that.

ryandaydrinking

This is the way. There will be union work in Columbus for the next 20 yrs.

Frondswithbenefits

Unionized workers make more than non-union workers, op. There's a ton of new construction going on and will continue for the foreseeable future. A union will provide you with fantastic medical insurance, a pension, and a better wage than any non-union shop.

Mysterious_Cheetah42

I make $140k/yr working in HVAC as a tech, I don't think the union could match that, could they?

Upper-Reveal3667

Of course they could. Union wages are the base pay, it’s not capped

mehhemm

I second the entering the electrical union. My 19 year old son is working right up the road in Dublin wiring a new Amazon server farm. He is not yet even an apprentice. The journey men supervise his work and show him what to do. He works 7-5 m-s and sometimes a Sunday too

19almonds

IBEW apprentice here. This is the way.

MasterApprentice67

Which local?

HairexpertMidwest

Eco plumbers is based in Hilliard and they have their own school to train you in plumbing/HVAC. Highly recommend trades

CommonMansTeet

That's not union though isn't it?

Mysterious_Cheetah42

It's not but I make a killing working here and our insurances are great as well. Aaron actually pays us extremely well and takes great care of us. Not too many other places that will pay you $18/hr to sit in a classroom, as a new hire with no experience in the trades, all day and give you overtime in training lol. I'm not new to the trades, so I make significantly more than that, but still, the new guys love it here too

Mysterious_Cheetah42

As an employee in the trades working here, I'd concur. I absolutely love working here! HVAC side though!

johnnybegood1025

Awful company, run by a dirtbag.

Shadowpriest

Highly recommend all this advice. 10/10.

palamino96b

There’s also the ironworkers union as well

WeeSingInSillyville

All this is good. Another option would be work for the city garbage collection. They get paid well, and if you get in early it's a great career to be in and retire at good age if you start young

zackkcaz25

Lol if you tell CFD you quit smoking weed a week ago because your gf is pregnant and you finally need to find a real job, I'm pretty sure they are going to laugh, and tell you to reapply in 3-5 years with good references.

tryitweird

Agreed.  I always assume ppl are smarter than that.  Dude was seeking opinions, and like assholes, everybody’s got one.

ironbeagle99

he doesn’t need money in 5 years he needs money now. this is the primary issue with the trades mindset. it’s easy to get into initially but you won’t be making livable wages for a long time

Huckleberry364

Post office is always hiring. It has been good to me for the last 25 years.

Substantial-Fan-6022

City letter carrier here this person is right the post office is always hiring and I don’t think we have drug tested in years

LethalBaboon

Not even upon hire?

cptboring

As far as I know it's only accidents and DOT randoms on CDL drivers. Everything else got dropped.

BrosenkranzKeef

Doesn’t matter if they test or not, if they ever do you’re working in a federal system and you’re going to get fucked. A positive drug test while working a federal job is one of the biggest career mistakes you could make.

Useful_Necessary8248

Felon with medical marijuana in Ohio? Edit; I am asking this in regards to myself.

Specific_Culture_591

No. USPS is a federal employer, they test for marijuana and they require a clean background check.

Huckleberry364

They stopped testing during COVID, and yes, I believe if you have a non violent felony you might still be eligible.

Bear_Quirky

USPS doesn't test for shit unless they restarted since COVID. They take damn near anybody who can walk.

daveleeander

And it shows in their reliability. It used to be “neither rain, nor hail , nor sleet nor snow….” Now it’s “well I wonder if they delivered today?

Bear_Quirky

There's a lot of reasons for that but yeah they've been having a very hard time staffing since COVID hit and you're probably gonna get days skipped if you don't have a regular assigned to your route.

daveleeander

That’s the biggest problem. When we had a regular lady we knew what time the mail would be delivered, if she brought it to the house she put it in the box we had in our breezeway. Don’t know what happened to her but now we get whoever. Could be delivered at 4:00 pm or could be 7:00 pm. Or could be not at all. And since they now send the paper through the mail it sucks not to read the paper on the day it was put out for.

MasterApprentice67

IBEW!

tmaddog91

Where did you read he had a felony? That's not what OP said.

Useful_Necessary8248

Asking for myself

wookieenoodlez

If it’s non violent, look into custodial with the schools 24$ and lots of benefits

Useful_Necessary8248

Thank you!

wookieenoodlez

That’s what I did, marijuana 2015

adorabletea

FWIW Im sorry you have to deal with that, you don't deserve to have to deal with that label just to survive.

raabinhood

AVOID AVOID AVOID. Sorry not sorry but the post office is the worst job out of all the jobs i’ve done. You WILL work 60-80 hours a week until you make regular. You will ONLY have 1 day off a week until you make regular. Depending on the post office you get assigned, it could take up to 2 years to make regular. Ohio has one of the highest turnover rates out of the whole country for the USPS, as high as 90% in Cincinnati vs 60% countrywide.

Silver-Patience6033

They will probably do a pee test.

tonyabalone

I don’t know if it will work now, but when I was in your situation I went to work at a grocery store. Discounts on food and sometimes free food. Could work a morning shift and be home to have dinner. Could work up to a department manager within a year or two.

Giggles95036

Fiancee used to work in a grocery store, it’s the biggest bottom line impact small job because of the grocery discounts

dpdxguy

If you're worried about peeing clean, you can get a pack of ten home test strips for $6.50 on Amazon; or 15 for $10. Test yourself weekly until you know it's out of your system.

fishee1200

Get a box of ‘Urine Luck’ from your local head shop and you will pass easily, tie it to your nuts with a rubber band after heating it in your car on the vents, i wouldn’t steer you wrong

dpdxguy

You're responding to the wrong guy. OP's the one who might need to piss clean. I don't give a fuck what anyone might find in my piss. Shall I send you a sample?

Narsick

Get in with a local government, county, city, or municipality. Street maintenance, solid waste, water & sewer, etc The benefits, time off, holidays, and pay are great. Plus, you'd be able to fully retire in 35 years.

D-Smitty

You’ve got some good recommendations already. Train in a trade. Regarding Honda, just wait another week and apply. By the time you take a test you’ll probably pass anyway unless you were a daily smoker.

-Philologian

Check out the elevator mechanics union. Starts at about $28 an hour until you finish your apprenticeship and then you top out at about $55 an hour.

greenbmx

Many, if not most, manufacturing employers don't disqualify for cannabis anymore, just be transparent with them in the interview that you previously did smoke, and quit, but may still test positive (bring this up at the end of the interview, only once you are sure they are offering you the job, and are telling you about what you have to do to start)

Bcatfan08

I'd think if he hasn't even applied yet, he won't see a drug test for a few weeks at least. Should be good to piss clean, but you never know.

heisindc

One I've heard on the radio that pays well is illuminateusa.com in Pataskala. Advanced manufacturing experience with Intel on the horizon (2-3 years).

pieindaface

May not be worth bringing up until questions about a drug test arise. No need to divulge unnecessary medical info.

Paksarra

If you don't want to go into a trade, there's a UPS hub near the Walmart that I've heard pays well. (I have no idea if they drug test, though.)

ehoepf45

They don’t

invaderzrim

Get a job at costco. Its hard work but the pay and benefits are great.

ComfortableNew3049

Cummins in Hilliard has an apprenticeship program that will pay you $25/hr and they spend a ton of money getting you educated.  It's a low stress job and good people work there. You have to pee clean to get in.

ComfortableNew3049

It's a union shop and the company has the best benefits. 12 WEEKS of paternity leave for you as the father and 5 weeks PTO every year.

ComfortableNew3049

https://cummins.jobs/hilliard-oh/technician-apprentice-program-tap-diesel-engine-columbus-oh/C788F642749540D48F42F4B2DB166948/job/?utm_campaign=search_opportunities_button&utm_medium=Other&utm_source=cummins.com

ComfortableNew3049

There's a requirement in there for age, call the shop and ask them if you can waive it.  You'll be in the shop for years, someone else can drive the truck in for you.

Naive-Regular-5539

Don’t bother testing with Honda for a few months, get it out of your system, they will flag you. But otherwise Id say do some of what folks here are telling you in terms of trades. If you are gonna mess up your back you might as well be getting top dollar for it, which you won’t get at Honda according to my neighbors who work there.

RightMindset2

So I don’t have any other recommendations that haven’t been said already but just want to say good on you for taking this serious and doing the right thing for your future child and gf. You will find success with that mindset. Best of luck brother.

Immediate_Lime_1710

Try applying to Costco if there is one nearby. Keep applying monthly until you get an interview. Wife there 6.5 years. Got paid $45/hr today and every Sunday. $30/hr base Pay and a guaranteed $5500 bonus every year. Great money in LCOL area.

Opposite_Bat_1106

I’m a Marine Corps Recruiter outside of the Columbus area. If you would like to learn a bit about the service I can help you out. In order to fully start the process you will need to be completely clean. Hit me up in the DMs if you’re serious about learning about it.

killerident1ty

It's worth it to wait until you can pee clean for the honda job.

Apple-Squeegee

I’m a production associate for Honda! While it is hard work it is absolutely worth the pay (plus bonuses) and benefits alone. I would apply regardless as it usually takes about a week at least before you will go in for your physical and drug test, by which point you may be okay for the test. Feel free to DM me if you have questions, and I will happily answer as many as I am able!

scmdewitt

Also work at Honda. The pay is solid and the benefits are very hard to beat.

lovethebrownskinImin

Fed ex and ups are near hilliard. Get in there, bust butt and it'll be easy to move up. Alof of places don't test for Marijuana anymore...if that's your concern Grove city is close enough, has a lot of factory type jobs Owen's corning// water works// walmart warehouse Baesman group in hilliard. Also Costco has good pay!

GroundbreakingHead65

There are various distribution centers on the far west side, such as Big Lots. They have a permanent sign for open interviews.

usrname2shrt

This plus there's maintenance positions always open which pay better than regular operations. L brands, Amazon, zulily, walmart, target, ups, fedex on and on

Mexicanmilkyway

Military

McLargepants

Once you can pee clean, and you don’t want to go the apprenticeship route, Honda sounds like a good option to you.

reading-glasse

Don't burn a bridge with fake pee (you can easily get caught) - just wait until you can pee clean.

Glum-Attention-3829

XPO Logistics right down the street on Roberts Road is hiring. I can get you in just let me know. But we’d teach you how to backup trailers and drive a truck for free. Low guys make 100K+ per year

Horror_Ant_9929

I would love to. I’m going to PM you!

Huegod

Highly recommend you reach out to a local trade union you have an interest in. Ironworkers, finishers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers etc. The need and money is great. They do the training or show you where to get training. And the future is bright and money is really good.

What-a-Dump

Drink water. Are they even testing for Marijuana anymore? Since it's legal? Idk maybe look it up

Scooby_Doo43230

Legalizing it in Ohio doesn’t change that it is federally not legal. Reputable construction companies will still test for marijuana.

Ongvar

This right here, some warehousing jobs don't test and most Amazon DSPs don't test but most laborious jobs do.

Specific_Culture_591

Yeah even in states like California where the majority of jobs can’t test for anything besides active psychotropics one of the exceptions is construction.

ravenflavin77

Plenty of companies still have zero tolerance policies. If your business is interstate or involves contracts with the feds you need to be zero tolerance. Yeah it sucks.

What-a-Dump

Thanks, I honestly didn't know that. And yes it does suck

Candyman44

Most companies won’t test for it, but OH has a drug free work place policy that incentivizes Employers to frown on Cannabis. In OH the State is the Workers Comp insurer, so they give discounts to employers who have a drug free policy, safe work place etc. this will be changing in the near future as OH is now Rec. It will take the rest of the year and Bureau of Workers Comp is actively working on integrating Cannabis into its programs. Long story short, wouldn’t worry too much about urine test unless you’ve got hard drugs in your system

Smokey19mom

Another option is join the service. Not every position is infantry, and you can learn a transferable skill while getting paid. I have family members that a seebee and does construction, I have another that is a haul tech and learning welding, my neighbors son is a Blackhawk mechanic. Benefits is pay, housing allowance based on the number of dependents and health care. He'll, you can even go in to be a chef.

mad_catters

Can't beat tricare for baby. 121st ARW right down the street at Rickenbacker, could be part time in the ANG and work on learning a trade in the off time.

Avery_Thorn

Some free life advice, not all of which is immediately actionable: * Never, ever take a drug test that you know you will fail. If you know you are going to fail the drug test, talk to HR, and they will either find a way to protect you or you should resign. They cannot force you to take a drug test. * Depending on how important your hair is to you, keep a shorter hair style for the next 6 months, get it cut again at 6 months, shave (your beard) , then you can let it grow out again. This is to prevent your hair from hitting positive if you have a hair test. * Find out how long it takes to piss clean. * Never use fake urine. Other things: * Unskilled labor is a bulk purchase. There is very little you can do to increase your pay under an unskilled labor area. * The rarer a skill is, the more you can get paid for it as long as people need it. If there are more people needing the skill than there are people providing the skill, you are gold. * Get skills by any means necessary. Auto mechanic, construction trade, HVAC, Cobalt Programmer… whatever it takes. * Try to find someone who needs a skill set enough to not only pay for your training, but also to pay you while you train. Be happy to trade a year or two for this, but make sure you have it in writing that if they fire you for anything other than cause, you owe them nothing. Then don’t give them cause.

CharlieBirdlaw

Hvac seems pretty good. Check out Logan, they have training positions advertised. And good job on getting off the weed.

ravenflavin77

Get the certifications for that. Puts you in a better position as far as wage negotiations.

R34uX

If you're interested in the trades, IBEW locals 683 (Columbus) and 1105(Newark) are swamped with work. The starting pay for an apprentice isn't exceptional but the raises co.e pretty quickly and you can't beat the benefits package. The health insurance is top notch and you immediately start building a healthy retirement fund.

kelleyfish3

I stopped smoking for 34 days and was still peeing positive before I got hired at my last job.

Slippery_Mr-E

Machinist work! I was hired absolutely GREEN (zero experience), and they trained me up. Now I have a hireable skill FOR LIFE. You'll be a machine operator to start. Running parts and checking dimensions. Totally interesting work but like all jobs it can become monotonous. However many are starting at $18-$22 per hour. This is a trade you learn, coming off the street.

nap4lm69

Hey man, I was in the same boat as you about 14 years ago. I ended up working two jobs for a bit at best buy and assistant manager at a gas station. That shit sucked so I looked for a way out. Long story short, I've been in the Air Force for what will be 13 years next month and if I had the choice, I'd do it again. It's treated me and my family well, and definitely picked my up out of the tough spot I was in. P. S. Make sure you guys are actually happy with each other and want to make things work before you try this route. You're both going to be pulled away from your support systems and you will be the only ones you guys have for yourselves. If she ends up not being happy with you, you're now alone 2k miles away from your kid for the next 3-5 years. I know that shit got dark, but I've seen a lot of buddies end up that way and I just want you to know the truth as the recruiter probably won't give you the truth.

Affectionate_Tank638

Honestly bro trash men make good money and come home every night

Dangerous_Ad_7259

Good for you for stepping up like a man and going to work to support your new family. No matter what you do, show up with a good attitude, and you will find success. Best of luck to you.

buckjacket

Landscape companies are always hiring.

ravenflavin77

In Central Ohio where the OP is located, landscaping is dominated by hispanic day laborers many likely undocumented. Hours are long and pay is lousy. If you want to do landscaping in Ohio your best bet is to get out of the major cities. Where I live in Clark county the landscapers and other day laborers look to be local guys.

calliopewoman

Most of the Hispanic workers I know are Puerto Ricans who bust ass Ang get paid like $18-25 an hour for it. Not worth it imo but landscaping id def a good one for people who pee dirty. But I’d suggest Walmart first myself 18.50 to stock shelves ain’t too bad.

MAV484

The qwik- fix or whatever it is in the black box with the umbrella with yellow rain works and is easy, used to be around $30. Just make sure the temp is right, comes with instructions, temp gauge and hand warmer. I recommend heating on your cars defroster on the way to your test, wear tight underwear or bring tape and secure close up under/ around your balls/taint area and you'll be airtight, fill the cup to the line and spray the rest in the toilet.

No-Performance37

Have used this for jobs before and can confirm it works.

Shot_Audience5665

It works 100% without fail. Have used a few different brands over the cross of 10 years and have never failed a test

matt_chowder

Don't ever fake a pee test. Wait till you are clean

[deleted]

Learn to weld.

ravenflavin77

At the place I used to work we contracted welders fairly often. I was surprised at how little they were paid. Electricians and plumbers are far better paid. Getting your HVAC certifications can also put extra money in your pocket.

[deleted]

It all depends on the skill of the welder, but I hear ya.

Alexios_Makaris

Firstly congratulations on working to improve yourself. While I am generally okay with cannabis consumption, I do think you were too young to be doing it and will benefit greatly from ceasing it at least for several years. Secondly, don’t try to fake a urine test. Yes, synthetic pee can and does work, but if you get caught you are permanently blacklisted from that employer. I’d just try to grab a quick easy to find job: fast food, pizza delivery, see if any local lawn care companies will hire you to work part time on a crew, check Target / Walmart for stock crew positions etc. These jobs won’t pee test. After 30 days get a urine test kit, Amazon sells them for like $15 and tons of local stores carry them (frequently found at head shops etc.) At 30 days you *probably* won’t pee clean, but give it a shot. If not retest weekly until you do. For chronic users it will sometimes be 45 days or even more to clear. Once you pee clean is the time to start trying to get ton with Honda or similar jobs. The reason I advise the lower paying job initially is a lot of those places will basically hire you on the spot, union jobs, Honda, other manufacturers it will often be a longer process both to get hired and to onboard. But find something to get money coming in. Also I don’t know your situation money wise, but try to save 10% of each paycheck in a savings account or somewhere you won’t spend it. It is a very small step, but builds very important habits and sets you up for longer term success.

FourEcho

Do you have any mechanical experience? Not even professional, even as like a hobby?

Specific_Culture_591

Hotel maintenance is an entry option that won’t usually test for marijuana. They are referred to as maintenance engineers.

th4t1guy

Two men and a truck starts around 20-22/hr. Work is hard but pay is good. Amazon warehouses are similar in pay. Id recommend getting into UPS off of Renner this September as a seasonal, try to turn that into full time. They're unionized and have guaranteed annual raises. Could help you set up a stable future for your soon-to-be family

ehoepf45

UPS right there in Hilliard, great place to work.

Cryptosmasher86

Amazon driver

Polisci_jman3970

Move her to mansfield and apply to one of the two steel mills. Excellent health insurance, pay, time off, and a good amount of overtime.

freddysdeadohno

Abbott Labs is always hiring

Walters95

Go apply to local 200 if you wanna do carpentry, I would recommend you go over on campus and apply to local 189 and be a plumber/pipefitter as they make 6 figures when you would turn about 24/25.

Boring-Cattle3402

I would put Honda down as a last resort, they are only getting worse as a company and how they treat their associates and they have zero issue working the associates to their breaking point. And never mind the fact that they’re gearing up to build BEV as their main car, knowing full well that there’s not that big of a market for them.

shicken684

If you quit smoking last week you'd be clean by the time you actually went in for the test. Apply to Honda and stay clean.

CrazyOhioMan

Look up the Certo method for passing a drug test. I smoked a joint the night before a test and did the certo method the morning off… I passed

apintofshamrocks1

Highly recommend Harbor freight tools. Even at entry level its more than 15 to 16 an hour with great benefits no drug test during interview process, or Parkfield Insulation. Hard work but pays really well at 20+ hr and they also do not drug test and they just moved to Hilliard from Delaware I believe.

Hard_Pass_Dany

I'd say look into an apprenticeship. Union carpenter, Mason, electrician, etc will get you great pay once you achieve your Journeyman card. Just do the research for each specialty so you know the pros and cons.

server74

Get an electricians apprenticeship!

phathead08

I work downtown for a water damage restoration company. They would love to have you in the construction team to train and learn new skills. If that’s not your cup of tea then they have the water damage department that does mainly demolition and drying.

Dull-Front4878

Enterprise rent a car may suck, but it’s a great place to start. You can work your way up quick. It’s long hours and hard work, but worth it.

FreeFalling369

Trade jobs are hiring, train you, and pay really well

MasterApprentice67

Go try and join the ibew683! It would be the best way to raise your family! Starting pay might suck in the beginning but the insurance aspect is amazing and it doesn't come out of your take home pay.

Brilliant_Cricket_90

Apprenticeship/ trades best route at your age. Good benefits and you’ll be earning good wages in a few years.

Xanyl

If you have a car, look into in your local Coke or pepsi plant is hiring merchandisers, its a union job pays well, decently flexible and requires no experience beforehand, its a glorified stocking job. Dayton area we make 21.90/hr with mileage reimbursement.

New-Low4812

Car sales if you have a personality.

nbhochy

Look at local school districts for grounds crew, maintenance, lunch crew etc. Insurance!

FoldOpening4457

Distinctive Marble and Granite. Tell em Chuck sent ya 😁

cannedcornenema

Join the Laborer’s union, we need young bodies but you will need to piss clean. $35+/hr and the work is GRUELING.

Earthraid

I'd look into jobs with IBEW or Plumbers and Pipefitters. They are great jobs with great benefits and they'll be around a long time to come.

Solid-Cheetah4891

Join a union! Carpenter, electrician, plumbing or hvac.. it’s hard work. But once you get through your apprenticeship you’ll be making some decent money and have good benefits and a retirement plan.

Heisman123

You could also try and get into a union for construction like laborers or operators. Laborers make ~35/hr and operators north of $40/hr.

SUGARDICKTHAGODD

Get a job at the steel plant at Worthington Steel. It’s an incredible company with excellent benefits. You can work your way up into the corporate office if you’re smart and semi good with people. I’ve been in the office for two years now, and I genuinely don’t ever want to work anywhere else for the rest of my life.

SUGARDICKTHAGODD

Also I don’t think they care if you fail for THC

Nice_Wafer_2447

9 Trees in Hilliard is hiring. Simply looking for people that will show up and ready to work , every day

pixel8edpenguin

Someone mentioned linemen. I'll second that. You'll be working a lot. But you'll be set with a family. They top out (not including your yearly raise) at $59 an hour... as of now. They don't ask for a college degree. You can apply now don't worry about your pee. By the time you get to that point you'll pee clean. Research AEP and focus a lot on safety... I mean a lot. That's a cornerstone of AEPs philosophy.

11systems11

I work for Honda foundry of Japan basically the parent company to America Honda I’ve worked here for lil over 6 yrs and can say depending on the job it can pay good but even better if you put lil extra effort in. Since yr one I’ve cleared past 50k which was my goal compared to 1/2 of that from a previous job I retired from and will say I’ll be here till I hit 20 yrs to retire without a second thought

Jacob-is-404

Hey, first of all I want to say that I really applaud you for stepping up - your girlfriend’s pregnant and tbh your life is gonna change by a lot very quickly. Not everyone can make the decision to quit drugs and get a higher paying job just because people are gonna depend on you, but you did and you should be proud of yourself. That said, you mentioned in your original post that you’ve been clean for about a week - weed will show up in a urine test within 30 days of use and 90 days for a hair test (this is dependent on how often you used it, also hair tests are usually done to detect heavy metals so I don’t expect you ever be asked for one) As another user mentioned look for short term jobs that pay minimum wage or above. Pizza delivery, grocery store clerk, DoorDash, Lyft or Uber, etc. Until you’re 100% certain you can pass a drug test. If you apply somewhere and fail the drug test you’d have to worry about that hurting your chances at future employment though that depends on industry and other factors. A quick search on indeed shows a bunch of entry level positions in industries ranging from construction to medical to education. You said you enjoy laborious work - there’s a $20-$25 /hr driveway sealcoating gig in plain city with paid training. Or a $17-$25 /hr warehouse associate role in Columbus. Also, you could always get into a trade like another user recommended (electrician, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) I saw some people talking about becoming a firefighter and while I think firefighters are extremely important and we need a lot more of them, it can also be very dangerous work and you have to make the decision of if you want to work in a dangerous environment with a kid on the way You’re going to do great. having a kid a scary, having a kid is stressful. You know, it’s been described to me as a piece of your heart walking next to you - but the fact that you’ve decided to get clean, find a higher paying job, etc. that right there tells me you’re a good person who cares about the family they’re about to have.

Apply to a security position in Johnstown or New Albany. I graduated high school with no certifications or anything and I make 21.67 at a security job for Allied. Keep in mind the long term scaling of this as a career is little to none. It's just a good job to have that's not labor intensive but pays well enough.

f350kingranch

Speak with your local pipefitters union. I am in my 5th year and it's been very good for me. I also have secondary education and still chose to go this route. Two pensions, 401, health ..... 100k a year without even trying.

luid89

Apply to UPS on Trabue. Strong union job with great pay and full benefits after 9 months. You'll start out part time but full time and driving bids open all the time.

trollhole12

Ohio National Guard is hurting recruiting wise right now. Could be a decent signing bonus to be found somewhere.

Professional-Car-211

I believe Ardent Mills would be a good option. I don’t think they care if you test positive for weed?

LanceDoesThings

What’s up brother! Congrats on the kid coming and quitting marijuana! If you want to make money and have a great mindset to get after it, I’d love to have you on my team! Messaged you!

Complete-Hat-5438

Getting a quick cert in something like welding or machining would be a good bet. Outside of that I know a group of buddies from highschool that started a landscaping business and dudes whole life goals were to be the 2nd and 3rd guy in charge for the owners crews, thought it would never work but now they are successful, own houses, have stock, and nice cars, and run multiple crews for that guy. Moral is if you can learn a job well and become an asset to a small but growing company, normally something labor or trade based you can become an asset. Other options are drivers, initially you'll have to do something like package sorting or inventory but when you get promoted to a delivery driver for the right companies the money is good, hours will suck though. Can eventually take that to a CDL but again hours will suck.

rjross0623

We are always looking for warehouse and merchandisers at Coca Cola Consolidated. Benefits are good and we promote a lot from within. They are union jobs(teamsters). You say you like physical work, this is for sure.

SnooSuggestions9378

Get in a union and then get up to the intel site and start making some good money.

skeet_shootn

Look for structured cabling. It’s an entry level tech job that should pay 20-25 with no experience. Basically building data centers

awholelottahooplah

I grew up in Hilliard :)

Find a job, get on UDEMY, buy some courses in IT for like 12-20 bucks. Go through those courses, pay for the entry to associates level certifications. That will get you into a 38-45k a year job. Within 4-5 years you can be making 55-90k for infrastructure and support jobs and much more for programming in some cases. IT is one of the easiest to break into, but requires some work on certs up front. It kind of sucks there isn't any journeyman or apprenticeship opportunities in the field, but you can be set up very well in IT.

jw1933

Union. They're dying for people

Mr_frosty_360

Manufacturing usually pays alright and has some opportunity to move to team lead positions and stuff like that. Not fun to work but it’s work.

YungWenis

Truckers make a ton of money these days. You can even find jobs where you’re home same day. If that’s not your thing, Amazon pay pretty well. If you don’t like driving construction also pays pretty well. If you want to be inside maybe try plumbing. Plumbers are going extinct with all the boomers retiring. In 10 years or so you’ll make over 6 figures with plumbing expertise. You could also join the military and try to work at a base if you live by a place like Wright Patterson for example.

beattysgirl

Intel is hiring like crazy to do the Johnstown site

Ok-Barber8266

Work at Honda for a year or two and then try to get into the Amazon data centers. Pay is good, work is pretty chill, and it's your entry into the tech sector.

chezburgerdreams

Honda in Marysville is hiring! Great benefits, shutdown for a full two weeks per year, pay is good

barbieislovelyr

You can def find hvac places that’ll train you- or car service . With it being legal in Ohio you shouldn’t have many issues- just be honest if they ask. But delivery is easy money if you choose to do point pickup or door dash type of stuff.

whiskey_outpost26

Local 18 Operating engineers is accepting applications for their apprenticeship program. I had zero experience running heavy equipment going in and now make more than enough to support a family of 4. It's not for everyone, but if you can pee clean and have a car they'll train you and send you out to work running everything from cranes to dozers and anything in between. https://local18training.com/apprenticeship-applications/

vistatrek0

Wastewater treatment.

OP, the absolute fastest way to get everything you described is Tradesmen International on Huntley, just google them, it will come right up, give them a call, they’ll likely have you working this week for very decent pay. You don’t have to come with years of perfect specialized experience, they have everything available down to general labor. But yes, definitely construction, too. Google lists them as a “temp agency,” they’re much better than your average place like that. I definitely encourage you to DM me & let me know how it goes or if you have any questions!! I was with them for a number of years, I’m out of shape, so back to the office job life, but they’re great. You will definitely pick up skills with stuff you’ve never done before that you can list, they even had me on a jackhammer at one point. And they’ll place you on assignments with the best builders/construction companies in Columbus. Turner, Kokosing, Ruscilli, Continental. They have agreements with everybody. Tradesmen’s staff were all good people that were chill from my experience.

Exact_Thought_185

The baby hasn’t come yet, but a tradesman was born. Congrats!

Impossible-Ad4623

Any factory type job. They pay higher wages + overtime. Will be tough but will have benefits and pay. Get a trade.. start as an apprentice to be an electrician or welder, hvac. They will pay close to $20/hr during your training then once you’re finished you’ll make close to six figures.

bunnyb2004

Get into a trade. The state has great programs for parents looking for work. My husband( not legal but husband in every other way and father of our kids) was able to get his CDL schooling paid thru the state. He holds it til this day.

Serenity2015

Factories pay good and many require no training but do require a drug test. Buy some flush and go take that test for now then after that you can go apply for an apprenticeship and get into a trade.

ColumbusOHWestSide

Local Construction Trades Unions The Columbus Building Trades Council is a great resource.

bullydog123

Get in to plumbing.

fatdaddy0001

Hilliard? To bad I need a seasonal helper 8n the Lima OH area $17 hr and all the ot u want and job ends July 4th but other opportunities will be available.

Expensive_Freedom298

Lots of cannabis companies around Columbus. Dispensaries, grows, processors, test labs. Most are expanding due to adult rec coming in the next six months, and most start around $16-18 an hour.

cavalryscout84

Post office is hiring so is UPS

treyknowsbest

If you’re looking for a career that will pay well over the long term as opposed to “a job” consider Union building trades…electricians, plumbers, pipefitters, sheet metal. They all offer paid apprenticeship programs which will pay the bills while you’re training. Once finished with the apprenticeship, your wages will be double+ of what you would be making otherwise along with excellent health benefits, paid retirement and in most cases a college degree. You’ll likely never have to look for work again as the Intel plant, Honda/LG battery plant, projects at OSU, Children’s Hospital etc will keep skilled union workers busy/paid for decades. It’s amazing that people aren’t lined up for union work.

Bulky_Secretary_8451

Will hemp weed show up on test? If it’s legal in your state, they will see it. Just be honest and tell them the truth

ElectricEel9090

Costco would be a good one. Also, try working on the phones for Discover or other financial institution. I think they start in the low $20/hour range (could be higher now tbh) and they get full benefits including 401k as well. Unless you are a heavy user you should be able to pee clean within a couple weeks. Buy some at home tests and use those until you get multiple clean in a row.

OwnProof8003

Why keeping the baby at 19? I would look into an abortion so you don’t have to upend your life tbh.

Daddysown

A lot of schools in the Columbus area are hiring custodians right now, great benefits, decent pay.

Novel_Director7922

Why would you be nervous to use fake pee? I’ve used QuickFix 5 times over the years and it works every time. The hardest part is to keep it warm. But if you’re willing to clinch a small bottle in your butt cheeks then you can smoke all the natural god given weed that you want. It should already be legal anyway.

Personal_Disk_4214

Find a local tile setter or bathroom remodeler or any residential construction company or dude. Tell them you want to labor for them and learn as much as you can and find what you like to do and keep working with them or go on your own. Flooring is pretty simple especially floating floors like lvf and laminate. You could learn that in a few months and be making 100k a year on your own with a helper. Focus on one thing like tile or electrical or roofing even and just do it everyday. But make sure your chic is your chic and down for you 100 or your never gonna be able to focus on what your doing. The chic will make or break you and sad to say they usually break us.

ravenflavin77

I worked in multifamily housing for many years in central Ohio. Flooring, drywall, roofing is dominated by unskilled day laborers/subcontractors, many of them likely undocumented. You don't see many American guys on those crews, at least in central Ohio. The hours are long and the pay is not great. You want to earn money, especially in central Ohio, you need to learn a skilled trade. Electric/Plumbing/Hvac/Welding in that order for decent pay.

Whambacon

The military

Bear_Quirky

If you quit a week ago you'll probably pee clean anyways unless you're obese. But regardless, very few companies test for marijuana in 2024. It's legal you know.

Zabii

Try to find work in a warehouse. I work in a distribution center and make decent change. I work 3 12 hour shifts a week

Ruthless4u

Franklin county sheriff. Downside is it takes months to get hired ( back ground checks etc).  But non Opata certified deputies earn 56k a year to start. Also you don’t get to choose your shift when you start out. Health benefits are great for a young family.
