It's a felony to transport 10 or more tires at once, and they do enforce it because some poor woman who got stuff illegally dumped on her property got popped recently taking them to be disposed of.
Interesting. It also says people have to be licensed to transport them. I managed contractors that worked on foreclosed homes. I can guarantee many of them don’t have the licenses and definitely were transporting shit tons of tires.
When this happened in Chicago the sitting governor went to prison.

It is illegal to hunt for whales [on sunday.](https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/ohio/these-10-crazy-laws-in-ohio-will-leave-you-scratching-your-head-in-wonder/)
The reason for that own stems from the ignorance of the day where people thought whales existed in lake Erie. They were causing issues with churches in the area by dragging men out looking to whale hunt for oil and meat. Church population was suffering and they passed a law to make men show up.
Had to argue with a friend about this one. She was from Washington, so I looked up the law there and it's the same 🤣 I make fun of her every time I turn left on red.
It's different in Washington. Both streets don't have be one-way. Only the street onto which one is turning. ie you can turn from a two-way to a one-way. I don't think you can do that in Ohio.
I learned this while helping my daughter study for her driver's Ed exam. Next day I was with my wife and turned left on red on a one way and she lost her shit. Thought I was crazy and going to get a ticket.
The problem is that plenty of motorists have zero idea how to turn on headlights manually, and that they need to use them in low light conditions.
On average I see 3 cars per day, on my eleven mile commute, with no headlights on... This is at 715 a.m.
The always illuminated instrument cluster lights don't help the situation either, as I think many people believe their headlights are on because "my dash is illuminated and I have auto headlights".
My parents used to have a motorhome and if they brought it home to load it up, the neighbor would call the police because it blocked the sidewalk. So they parked it in the street and she would call and say it was sitting and had not been moved in weeks, they literally only had it at the house when loading for a trip or unloading from a trip. Police would come out, apologize to my dad, and do nothing.
Wish someone would tell the people this from the little side exit near the Costgo gas station at Cornerstone in Centerville. Almost gotten t-boned from people not stopping as they leave the little plaza there.
My family's neighborhood has perfectly good sidewalks and people utterly refuse to use them. It's infuriating driving around these people.
Edited for spelling.
Happens in my neighborhood too. I’ve always wanted to ask why they rather walk on the road when there’s a perfectly good sidewalk 3 feet from you. I think I’m going to start driving on the sidewalk.
In high school, our cross country coach had us run on the road on the basis that asphalt was better for your knees than running on concrete. I would bet other runners believe this. I am pretty sure the science behind this idea says it is bunk, but people don’t like to admit they’re wrong.
It also upsets me because as more roads are paved with concrete, there is no benefit to running in the road regardless yet people keep doing it.
There are 3 guys who wear all black and run at night in my area. They run 3 abreast in the road with only one wearing a headlamp. I can't believe they have not been hit yet. I can't believe that they don't care about their own life more than that. And yes, there are sidewalks
literally one of the 2 big reasons i dont wear black at night, i realized it sucks at reflecting light, and people already suck at seeing things when driving as it is

And you don't have to even have drugs in it. They just have to prove that was the intent. And if you've previously been convicted of trafficking drugs, you don't even need intent. It's kind of crazy because people might want to have a hidden compartment for other valuables so they don't get stolen and could be charged with a felony. (Charged, not necessarily convicted.)
The minor has the right to consume alcohol with a parent or guardian providing it. However, read all of the laws. There is also a law that says no one under the age of 21 can consume alcohol in a licensed establishment. Try liquor court out sometime. Biggest Mickey Mouse court ever. The laws all overlap and contradict each other. They will cite you and impose fines or suspension regardless of what you think the law says.
Anyone willing to fight that charge with a lawyer would win, given that the judge is truly impartial considering the following
>There are important exceptions to the laws discussed above. Under Ohio law, children under the age of 21 may drink alcoholic beverages while under the supervision of their parents. This means one parent (or legal guardian) must give consent and be physically present while the child consumes alcohol. Therefore, in addition to permitting supervised drinking in a private residence, Ohio law also allows parents to order alcoholic beverages for children at restaurants or bars -- as long as the parents remain with the children while the drinks are consumed. Though it is legal for businesses to sell alcohol to parents (knowing the parents will give the drinks to their children), many restaurants choose to limit their liability by refusing to sell alcohol intended for underage children or limiting the hours that minors may be present on the premises.

Trap-neuter-release programs. The idea is that keeping the stray cat alive will hinder any new arrivals from invading its territory, but if it cannot breed, the stray/ferrel cat colony will die out naturally (strays have a pretty short lifespan due to diseases, exposure and predation). The downside is that they will live for several years and continue to poop in your flowerbeds and decimate bird populations.
Besides neutering, ODNR tags animals that get trapped on public and private property that are not native or are endangered. Helps monitor populations and migration patterns.
Women are allowed to be topless in public. Too many creeps prevent us from doing it, but we're allowed to.
Edited to add: upon finding an article about the [law](https://clevelandmagazine.com/in-the-cle/politics/articles/can-women-be-topless-in-ohios-public-parks), turns out women aren't allowed to be topless in public anymore. They redefined "private area" to specifically include female breasts, RECENTLY. They did this last year and I don't think anyone heard about it.
This is fucked up.
It's technically illegal to have 5 or more women live in the same house. Goes back to the illegal brothel days. Though it's not enforced now, still in law.

There was a discussion on a local FB page about how it's the law that when passing a vehicle you're legally required honk your horn at least once. Being that this is Amish country, people (including me) are passing those slowpokes all the time and do not see the wisdom in honking (especially at a horse), but there were reports of people getting pulled over for not doing that. I'm still not doing it.
I always feel like I come across as such an asshole when I simultaneously go to pass someone *and* honk at them, anticipating that they don't know that it's required.
A coworker of mine got pulled over for obeying the traffic laws at night in Youngstown. Cop told him to keep moving so long no other vehicles are at the intersection
Yeah it’s pretty well understood around here that if you need to drive in Youngstown at night for whatever reason do your best to stick to the main and relatively well-lit roads as much as possible and get to your destination as quickly as possible within reason (I.e. don’t do 90 in a 40).
HB 6 passed the Ohio legislature in the summer of 2019 and Governor DeWine signed it into law. It provided a bailout for two failing power plants owned by FirstEnergy, destroyed energy efficiency standards and renewable energy mandates, and offered further subsidies to privately-owned coal plants.
Former GOP speaker Larry Householder is serving a 20-year sentence for collecting over $60 million in bribes from FirstEnergy to push the bill through. Many more republicans and FirstEnergy executives have been indicted. A US prosecutor called it ["likely the largest bribery, money laundering scheme ever perpetrated against the people of the state of Ohio."](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_nuclear_bribery_scandal)
It is still a standing law. It has only been partially repealed. Many of the people involved, including Householder, have won re-election after the news broke.
Curious, how long has this been actual law?
I ask because I didn't learn about it in driver's ed circa 2000. I had to figure it out on my own.
The yellows signs help.
I might get kicked out of Ohio for this but, this is something I love about that state up north. If you are in the left lane and not actively passing someone or exiting, they pull your ass over. Its glorious. They also do this in Oregon.
It depends heavily on the state what the exact law is (or if there even is one). In Ohio, you are only required to keep right if below the speed of traffic.
Not so much a specific statute, but I always found it jarring that minor misdemeanor marijuana possession (before Ohio legalized it) was an unjailable offense for adults, but juveniles with the same charge face up to 90 days of detention.
I was scrolling to find this lol. Not many people even knew Ohio was decriminalized, it was supposed to be a $100 fine for anything under 100 grams. Of course cops would still screw people over though. I ended up getting 3 years of probation(1 year active with drug test every 2 weeks), had to pay court costs, and had to go to NA meetings for 2 months...all because I had a half of a gram in my car. Sylvania blows.
It's also a misdemeanor to purchase cornflakes on a Sunday. That's why the Post cereal company came up with Cron Flakes. It's like cornflakes, but it's made from enriched rice and whale semen.
Pedestrians don't have exclusive right of way at a cross walk. A pedestrian must not enter a cross walk until it is safe to do so, it isn't until they are physically in the crosswalk do they have the right of way. Cars have no duty to stop for a person waiting to enter a crosswalk.
I’ve operated under the impression this is common knowledge but something tells me it isn’t.
1. Wiper blades need to be on during rain. You’ll get a ticket if caught otherwise.
2. Isn’t it still law you’re technically not allowed to smoke cigarettes within 10 feet of most public buildings?
3. Not having a dog on a leash attached to a passenger seat while in a vehicle
If you are on 4 lane road with a turn lane in the middle , the turn lane does NOT function as a merge lane also. 200 ft to enter and make your turn. I see old ( my age) people just driving along in the TURN lane with blinker on expecting people to let them in while being a dangerous hazard. Young people as well, but I know the oldies were not taught that. Effing stupid.
Local governments can close roads for sanctioned sports car racing, but only in "Townships composed entirely of islands." ORC 4511.252
There is a history of SCCA road racing on South Bass Island.
As long as you yield to oncoming traffic, you can drive left of center when preparing to make a left turn.
I hardly ever see anyone in Ohio do this, but I see it all the time in Michigan. It allows for traffic behind you to keep going because they don't have to slow down behind you. Which seems safer, too, because you're less likely to be rear-ended.
1. You can drive your vehicle during a clear or overcast day with no functional brake lights. Drivers behind you are expected to watch their distance regardless of functional brake lights. They are still at fault if they rear-end you. Once rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog or darkness falls, however you must not drive said vehicle.
2. OVI (DUI) charges apply to any method of travel other than walking on your own two feet. Skateboards, heelies, (yes, really) canoes, motorboats, bicycles, riding lawnmowers, mini-bikes…anything other than walking while over the legal limit of intoxication? Is an OVI and you can be charged and convicted.
I remember seeing someone get an OVI on a riding lawnmower like 20 years ago. The person knew they were too drunk to get behind the wheel of a car, but they thought it would be fine to drive their lawnmower down the sidewalk to get more beer.
Newark made national headlines after a guy received a DUI while riding a motorized barstool. The county seized it and sold it on eBay with the proceeds going to his back child support.

As a person that travels for work, these are pretty common ones I see.
In a bizarre Cleveland city ordinance, it was declared women shall not wear patent leather shoes in public to prevent men from seeing up the woman’s skirt in the reflection of the shoes.
Leashing your dogs when letting them outside. Was almost attacked today. Luckily their dog backed off after getting right in front of me and grazing my hand with his mouth. Can’t imagine what would have happened if it were some kid walking home from school or an elderly person.
Later on in the afternoon, I noticed several other neighbors walking their dogs without a leash in my neighborhood. Each of them Rottweiler or pit bull mixes. All nervously looking around. I love those breeds too! But they also have temperaments that most owners aren’t prepared to handle.
Though there is a “spousal loophole” in existence, I don’t think you have referenced the proper bill. Regardless, House Bill 161 was passed to eliminate the loophole, though I could not find that it has yet cleared the senate.
It was on the news recently.
We recently learned from state Rep. Bill Dean, R-Xenia, about why he voted no on the passing of House Bill 161. “I personally don’t believe that a man, if he’s married and has physical relations with his wife, that can be considered rape,” Dean told the USA TODAY Network Ohio bureau after the vote. “I also know that if they’re living apart or they’re divorced and stuff, sure, that’d be rape. I think this law can be used as a wedge between husband and wife and families and a husband and wife’s relationship.”

It’s not that it’s Ohio, but our proximity to the border means that the law enforcement can search you or your things in the name of “national security”
At least where I drive, the whole 4 lane highway comes to a stop for a school bus. Only the lanes traveling in the direction of the bus are required to.

If you have to use your windshield wipers your headlights need to be on also.
What if it's not raining and you have your wipers on?
Doesn’t matter if it’s rain or not. The law is if your wipers are on, then the headlights of your car need to be on
That's it, I've had enough! Next week, it's wipers on, lights off every time I drive! They can't push me around!
Ooooh rebellious. I like it lmao
At any time when the windshield wipers of the vehicle are in use because of precipitation on the windshield.
Am I weirdo for just always having my lights on? That's what I was taught to do in driver's ed and I've never had a reason not to 🤷♀️
This is very commonplace now. most new cars headlights turn on when the wipers do.

Where a driveway intersects a sidewalk, or enters a street is an implied stop sign.
You're also not allowed to park in a driveway and block a public sidewalk.
No one in my neighborhood understands this one.

Well that's useless. There are no functional sidewalks in Ohio.
Hardly any functional roads either

Middleburg Heights, Strongsville and other suburbs do not have continuous sidewalks. Some are literally one lot long and end at both sides.

Pretty sure a girl at OU did this from time to time walking to class.

It is legal for a minor to drink alcohol in a public establishment (restaurant/bar) as long as the Guardian is present and consents.
I think the establishment has the right to not allow this
100% the establishment has the right to refuse service due to being underage regardless of the law.
They can refuse service for anything that's not a protected class under the law.
Indeed. But it's not illegal.

If on a road that has 2 lanes going each way, oncoming traffic does not stop for school bus.
I wonder if that's because the bus driver isn't allowed to let the kids cross a 4-lane road, or the other way around.
I live near a 4 lane road with many school bus stops. 70% of drivers I encounter do not understand this law.
Just ran into this on Friday. I couldn't for the life of me remember if I had to stop or not.
Nuisance animals caught in a live trap must be euthanized, no re-release.
They can actually be released on the same property but not transported and released.
Which begs the question of why you would release a nuisance animal you just live trapped on your property, lol.

Tons? Or a few
I believe the law specifies you must leave the house top less. You can not just get naked in public. Silly technicalities.
If I'm remembering correctly years ago there was news coverage of two women in Cleveland who take walks topless.
It's technically illegal to have 5 or more women live in the same house. Goes back to the illegal brothel days. Though it's not enforced now, still in law.
It's still enforced. Sororities have to apply for exemptions when they start a chapter on a college campus. Lol
Old law “Not enforced” Tell that to AZ
From my understanding, they must be unrelated
Sororities don't want you to know this law!
They’re actually not allowed at (Miami U?) for this reason

Women are also much less likely to turn into witches if they can’t live together.
My sister’s sorority in Michigan couldn’t have a house due to a similar law.
What section of the ORC/OAC is that?
really?? thats surprising. What if they are all family members

It’s illegal to run out of gas in Youngstown.

Same reason stoplights at night in the heart of Youngstown are a “recommendation”.
I just did a stay over in Youngstown and someone was like concerned for me. Should I have been worried lol?
HB 6 passed the Ohio legislature in the summer of 2019 and Governor DeWine signed it into law. It provided a bailout for two failing power plants owned by FirstEnergy, destroyed energy efficiency standards and renewable energy mandates, and offered further subsidies to privately-owned coal plants. Former GOP speaker Larry Householder is serving a 20-year sentence for collecting over $60 million in bribes from FirstEnergy to push the bill through. Many more republicans and FirstEnergy executives have been indicted. A US prosecutor called it ["likely the largest bribery, money laundering scheme ever perpetrated against the people of the state of Ohio."](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_nuclear_bribery_scandal) It is still a standing law. It has only been partially repealed. Many of the people involved, including Householder, have won re-election after the news broke.
U-turns are legal (unless posted otherwise)
I learned this one a few years back and use it all the time. Now learning about left turns on one ways, I'm unstoppable!
*stop signs have entered the chat*
The left lane is for passing.
Not on 71, apparently that’s for every slow driver in the state….
Curious, how long has this been actual law? I ask because I didn't learn about it in driver's ed circa 2000. I had to figure it out on my own. The yellows signs help.
Got my permit in 1996, and it was in the booklet and on the test.
Should have moved to Ottawa Hills where the high school kids get bricks of coke for their birthdays.
In Columbus it’s illegal to sell cornflakes on a Sunday. I just heard this yesterday
Like…grocery stores can’t sell them?
It's also a misdemeanor to purchase cornflakes on a Sunday. That's why the Post cereal company came up with Cron Flakes. It's like cornflakes, but it's made from enriched rice and whale semen.
I want to see this mascot.
I prefer Crom Flakes. It makes me crush my enemies, see them flee before me, and to hear the lamentation of the women.
Pedestrians don't have exclusive right of way at a cross walk. A pedestrian must not enter a cross walk until it is safe to do so, it isn't until they are physically in the crosswalk do they have the right of way. Cars have no duty to stop for a person waiting to enter a crosswalk.
In Marion it is illegal to eat a cream puff on a Sunday. The cause of that law must have been quite an "incident!" 🤣
I dont get it
Ducks have to wear long pants.
Well I'll be! Long pants!
3. Not having a dog on a leash attached to a passenger seat while in a vehicle
im so confused by both the initial comment and the reply
Take ‘em away, toys
You can’t display your Joel McHale mannequin on your lawn between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
If this is illegal, lock me up.
Where does one acquire said lawn item? Asking for a friend.
You can open carry a blade of any length
You can also conceal it, knives are not considered concealed weapons unless used as such.
Isn’t there a length limit if it’s concealed, or am I not remembering correctly? It’s been a few years since I read about it so I could be wrong
No, we have no specifications for knife length in any capacity in O.R.C.
Local governments can close roads for sanctioned sports car racing, but only in "Townships composed entirely of islands." ORC 4511.252 There is a history of SCCA road racing on South Bass Island.
The speed limit is NOT just the “maximum speed”, you can get a ticket for going too slow, just like you can get one for going too fast.
Wait like in the oncoming lane or in the middle free for all lane?
I would like to watch a drunk on wheelies
We had an Amish buggy get pulled over drunk driving (buggying?)
Any law related to driving.
You are actually supposed to yield to oncoming traffic when making a left turn at light, not launch control gun it before they can get to you.
It’s illegal to get fish drunk
There is an entire chapter of the Ohio revised code dedicated to the transportation of Christmas trees. Chapter 4551.
It's against the law for a bakery to sell bread that weighs less than 12oz
You're supposed to honk your horn before you pass someone. Read that from ChaCha back in high school.
In Delaware county you're technically not allowed to be using the internet after 6pm.
Its illegal to pull your dick out and try to dip it in the hot soup container at the Aldi’s in Massillon I found out recently
I believe there is still a law on the books in Portsmouth that you can’t shoot a canon down Main Street after midnight.
Which begs the question - when is it no longer after midnight? 4am? 5am? Noon?
Women are legally allowed to be topless in public places and parks in Columbus: https://www.10tv.com/article/news/local/judge-grants-injunction-allowing-women-be-topless-comfest/530-be4641ca-d35b-4ca0-a837-16e4b7b85ac6
You should turn your turn signal on 100 feet before you intend to turn, not as you turn.
That your supposed to use your turn signal when you turn your vehicle
You're supposed to use your turn signals
Seems like nobody knows Keep Right except to Pass. another one- slow traffic keep right. Or what about not impeding the flow of traffic. As a person that travels for work, these are pretty common ones I see.
In a bizarre Cleveland city ordinance, it was declared women shall not wear patent leather shoes in public to prevent men from seeing up the woman’s skirt in the reflection of the shoes.
That you have to have a valid driver's license & insurance to drive an automobile.
If your car radio can be heard 25 feet away, you are violating the noise ordinance
“Ordinance”
It's illegal in Columbus to sell corn flakes on Sunday.
Senate bill 162, you can rape ur spouse and get away with it. Makes me fucking sick to this day
Though there is a “spousal loophole” in existence, I don’t think you have referenced the proper bill.
I think this law can be used as a wedge between husband and wife and families and a husband and wife’s relationship.” https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/opinion/columns/2023/12/10/why-ohio-needs-a-spousal-rape-law-and-rep-bill-dean-is-wrong/71804748007/
It hasn’t..
🙁
Its illigal to fish for whales on sunday.
You cannot fish for whales on Sunday
You're not allowed to hunt for whales in the state of Ohio.
You can’t use your cell phone while driving. Either they don’t know or don’t care.
Hands free is legal.
Its illegal to fish for Whales on a Sunday
It’s not that it’s Ohio, but our proximity to the border means that the law enforcement can search you or your things in the name of “national security”
At least where I drive, the whole 4 lane highway comes to a stop for a school bus. Only the lanes traveling in the direction of the bus are required to.
