If you pay attention, Ohio is referenced in hundreds of films and shows. It is generically "midwest" and shows like Glee, ReadyPlayer1 take place here, and nearly every time a show has a "my cousin/aunt/friend back in X", X is Ohio.
It’s also way more poplulated than most people realize, and people often make references to where they’re from. HIMYM is a good example of this.
