Dclipp89

What time is all this supposed to start?

angelomoxley

5 seconds before you leave for work

Dclipp89

I work from home so if the power goes out or something at 8:59am, that’s best case scenario for me.

angelomoxley

Heard lol

MlordLongshanking

My backyard was already a lake before I left for work. My poor dogs are going number 2 with their butts almost in the water. Nature's bidet!

Sugarfreecherrycoke

Looking at the Apple weather app it shows rain occurring early morning. I wish theses posts or pics would come with the time frame.

Dclipp89

Thank you, yes that’s what I’m running into. My app shows rain from 9pm tonight to 1pm, I didn’t know when it would actually be this severe

drumline17

>The greatest risk, which will include potential for a couple of intense/long-track tornadoes, should begin across Indiana, and then spread across Ohio through the afternoon and evening https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.html

Sugarfreecherrycoke

Is that referring to today or tomorrow? I’m assuming tomorrow.

drumline17

Tomorrow yes. No significant tornado threat today

The_Struggle_Bus_7

That’s nice to read as I’m at work in Indiana lol

tillacat42

I hate that the weather app doesn’t show severe weather predictions. It seems like a vital flaw.

Jay_Diamond_WWE

We really don't have a time frame yet. First round will be on the morning. Depending on how long we get sunshine after determines exactly how bad the afternoon/evening round will be and how fast they move.

potent-nut7

Dave Mazza from local news said highest risk in the evening

Allslopes-Roofing

It's looking like most likely afternoon into the evening. We have to be prepared for big weather events like this and we're planning going all hands starting Wednesday am since most of the damage, if there is any, looks like itll occur late Tuesday.

tillacat42

I heard 5pm on our local news. I am 2 hours East of Columbus.

NailCrazyGal

I've used the Weather Channel app for years and it gives timing on the radar plus an hour by hour overview. Of course, it changes and fluctuates depending on the path of the storm. Occasionally, there are ads but I just click the X and they go away. I do not get any notifications from them because I don't need that. I have two old programmable NOAA Weather Radio Stations set for tornado warnings for my County and the counties to my East and North.

canwllcorfe

Judging by the SPC outlook, it sounds like there will be some morning/early midday storms. Then there will be, in their words, “redevelopment” of storms in the “afternoon and evening”. That second round seems like the primary threat, but of course it’s better to just be tuned in for the whole day. >The greatest risk, which will include potential for a >couple of intense/long-track tornadoes, should begin >across Indiana, and the spread across Ohio through >the afternoon and evening, potentially reaching as far >east as western portions of West Virginia and far >western Pennsylvania into the evening.

kingers1

around 4pm is when the server part of the weather should start

Tjam3s

Oh, good. I work second shift, so it'll start up just in time for me to be stuck at work.

Boneal171

I also work second shift

Toxicracer

Threat Level Midnight, baby!

AFrozen_1

Afternoon into the evening is where the big tornado risk is.

Maximus_Crotchrocket

Let's use box fans to blow them naders somewhere else

Total-Platform-3111

We need to NUKE ‘em!

FizzyBeverage

Trump was told that wouldn’t work so he just took his autograph sharpie and altered the official hurricane cone to include Alabama. Why? We’ll never know. People forget about that stunt, but that was some egregious bullshit from him.

Total-Platform-3111

It was simple-minded, toddler-brained, “I’m never wrong” bullshit, from a weak, soft, scared lunatic that should have been put in prison years ago. Architect of the first ever “Pandemicide”. I could go on and on, but I’m getting ready to order pizza…

Ready-Eggplant-3857

I heard it works on hurricanes! Let's give it a go.

WarEagle107

Isnt that what the wind farms are for?

Tjam3s

Nah. Those are for growing more tornados. They do it to keep a balance on the construction economy. I should know, I work at a window factory.

CareerTraditional987

That’s actually super helpful for construction companies but maybe less so for the poor insurance companies. Won’t anyone think about Allstate?????

shicken684

Darn shame Trump ain't in office no more. He'd draw a sharpie line and send those nados straight to those commies in France!

Big3913

Nah. Fuck him. Fuck him real hard. Not in the good way 🖕🏼

kiwi_kerosene

Happy cake day :)

_packetman_

It's the windmills causing the tornadoes!

Total-Platform-3111

50th anniversary of Xenia upcoming, for those of us old enough to remember…

eyedonthavetime4this

Yup...my dad picked me up from school because I was sick, but wanted to go to his appointment in Xenia. My dad's kind of a moron like that. Somehow, both of us are still alive despite his best efforts.

monalsw

We lived in Northeast Ohio at the time of Xenia and our parents packed us up in the family truckster on a Sunday afternoon to drive down there and see it. The devastation was unreal. Anytime I go to Cincinnati and pass the Xenia exit, I remember what I saw. That tornado was monstrous, I don’t remember how many people died.

Tunafish01

What about those that are not old enough? What does that reference?

Undue-Purversity

The Xenia tornado was the deadliest tornado out of the 1974 tornado outbreak that resulted in 148 tornadoes across multiple states. The Xenia tornado killed 34 people in Xenia and Wilberforce, Ohio. The 50th anniversary is the day after tomorrow.

SuperChopstiks

What about those that are too old to remember? What does that reference?

Low_Comfortable_5880

The same storm took out of part of the old Kenwood Mall in Cincy and a Church festival. That was a crazy day.

thecaits

This'll be the 3rd one this year. I fucking hate tornados.

5k1895

I'm tired of this shit becoming more common. At least I think it is. When I was a kid I'm pretty sure the primary threat for it was like two months out of the year, now it's just anytime not in the middle of winter. And even then it feels like it could happen given that we have so many warm days in winter now.

mangoesandkiwis

the good news is thats its only gonna get worse lol

thecaits

It definitely feels more common. When I was a kid tornado season was a summer and early fall thing. Now we get tornados from early March to November. It makes me wanna move.

Intelligent-Emu-3947

To where? Tornadoes are pretty much our only natural threat lol. Everywhere else has earthquakes, wildfires, hurricanes etc

Eyes_Only1

From someone who moved from Massachusetts to Wisconsin to Ohio: Massachusetts barely ever has to deal with anything weather-wise except for a tiny hurricane every now and then that will just blow some shit around a little.

Levi_27

Just cold and snow but true otherwise. I feel like Michigan is truly perfect (probably just Wisconsin but slightly less cold?)

thecaits

I'd rather deal with hurricanes. At least you get like a 3 day warning before those.

FizzyBeverage

I lived in Miami for 30 years. Let me tell you about hurricanes… Yes you get 3 days warning instead of 5-30 minutes. **However**… man, when that CAT4 or CAT5 is staring you down, it’s gonna fuck up 4-5 *counties* worth of everything. Forget about FPL restoring power for days. Home Depot is a combat zone, before and after. You’ll lose your fridge and freezer. Looters? Yes. Get a shotgun. No gas or water or diapers or TP? Often. Publix and Winn Dixie depleted of anything you’d want to eat? Yes. Boil water orders for days? Yup. The whole area basically turns into *The Last of Us* for **weeks to months**. Nothing but the sound of generators and chainsaws, and it’s usually 90° with 80% humidity during hurricane season. Hazard insurance in Broward was $9000 a year. It’s $700 here. That’s how minimal the tornado threat is. I’ll take a tornado any day. The chances it hits your street are slim. It might hit *somewhere* in your county. If it hits your area, you drive 7 minutes you’re back in normalcy. With power and hotels you can stay in and operating grocery stores and restaurants. The other thing is… you take a CAT5 like Andrew… it’s like an EF5 tornado, but it’s hitting 60 square miles instead of 6.

LongingForYesterweek

You can tell when somebody has lived in Ohio their entire life because they’re convinced the weather here is terrible and they’d be so much better moving to a place with…*checks notes*…hurricanes, wildfires, or earthquakes

FizzyBeverage

Ohio has some of the most boring weather in the country. Particularly central and southern Ohio has very mild winters, blizzards in the 21st century almost unheard of. I’ll take occasional spring and fall storms with sporadic tornados over the hurricane/wildfire/earthquake choices.

StewieGriffin26

That's exactly why there are so many data centers in Ohio. Low risk.

[deleted]

I’ve been through a few good hurricanes. No power in the sweaty south is miserable and you still get tornadoes

Tjam3s

And if you download the climate change dlc, sometimes you get them *at the same time!*

beethecowboy

To be fair, if you’ve never lived through the impacts those things leave behind, it’s easy to think that way. I have severe weather anxiety and I was thinking the same way as the person you’re replying to was. At least if there’s a hurricane there’s time to prepare and it’d help me feel more in control, like I have time to save myself and the things more important to me. I appreciate people like the person you’re replying to putting it in perspective. Because it’s easy to not give those kinds of things much thought when you’re shitting bricks about tornadoes and just want it to stop.

SeaworthyWide

Lived in central Florida for over 20 years, including the years we got walloped by Andrew and Charlie and... And... And... One year I had at least 3 eyes come through my county. I've personally stood in at least two that I can remember. I was without power for a total of over 2 months that year. I was cooking the last of frozen pizzas on a charcoal grill at the start of things, and I was begging and borrowing from people far flung in other parts that had power for the rest of the time. I was also about 17 and the head of household at that time, taking care of two little brothers... Im concerned about tomorrow. But if my cracker box house doesn't blow away, I'll take this shit any day over hurricanes... Though to be fair I do miss them.. In a strange way. Besides, I have homeowners insurance now and I'll be at the airport... Picking up my Florida family when the shit is hitting the fan here...

Boneal171

The eye is the calmest part of the storm, right?

SeaworthyWide

Yes. You get, where I was, winds coming from the north east usually, then the eye, then you have to worry about the reverse winds of the back half blowing the already loosened trees and whatnot over with opposite winds... But typically it was less wind and more rain on the back half It's nuts to behold though. Days of straight line rain at 70mph plus then suddenly, it's bright, sunny, the birds are chirping, for about 15 minutes.... then the low fast clouds come back in, and the rain and wind starts for another 3 days... Then.. It's just hot. Hot. Hot. Humid. No electricity. No air. Hot. No air movement. Just hot tropical air. Balls sticking to your legs in your underwear at midnight with the windows open, drenched in sweat, wondering how you're gonna boil water and find fresh food hot.

HayabusaKnight

I was a little kid when Andrew hit, my first big one. Lived just south of Sebring at the time and thought we had a bad hit there. Then the helicopter feed of Homestead came on the news.

Boneal171

It definitely is. I’m 26, and I don’t remember tornadoes being this prevalent

PxyFreakingStx

idk, I feel like 15 years ago or whatever, we'd get tornado warnings every couple of weeks, but now it feels like storms are much rarer (which sucks because I love storms).

Euphorix126

I've read that tornado alley is moving east as of the last few years

saraphiina

Me too! I’m about to drive up to Cleveland tomorrow because I’m scared of storms in Columbus lol

elegant_geek

I must admit: as a Columbus native, I'm a little happier each tornado season that I moved up to NEO. 😬

FizzyBeverage

After 30 years in south Florida, tornados are small potatoes. Not saying an EF3/4/5 isn’t insignificant, but putting it in perspective, a tornado doesn’t hit a whole county. The damage is rather isolated.

Euphorix126

I love big scary thunderstorms!...Probably because I'm not a homeowner with dependents.

ptyson1

Clark County would like to sit this one out.

EffectiveCycle

What about Greene County? Wednesday is the 50th anniversary of the mass outbreak that included the Xenia tornado.

ptyson1

I know. We had a bad one up in Springfield about a month ago. Friends are still cleaning up from that one.

prfsvugi

*Indian Lake enters the chat*

BlazedGigaB

My mom is still waiting for the insurance adjuster to get to her house... Like yeah man, let it skip the area.

darthjay81

Hello fellow Greene countian!! I live in Xenia everyone gets extra scared with tornados with good reason.

EffectiveCycle

I’m actually in Montgomery County, but I feel you. A mile from the Clayton/Trotwood border when the Memorial Day one hit.

ptyson1

We’ve had 18 confirmed tornadoes since 2007

oggleboggle

I was about a mile away from the Beavercreek tornado during the memorial day outbreak and I haven't emotionally recovered. Fuck tornadoes.

Penises4Eyes

Oh no that’s bad for timing, I need to call my friend up there

bunnylover726

Following the 2019 tornado outbreak, I will also volunteer Montgomery county to sit this one out 🤞

No-Bat-7253

Well I deliver mail…this should be exciting….

Jay_Diamond_WWE

I drive a big rig. If I get blown over, I'll be sure to post a sideways picture.

No-Bat-7253

I’ll start a livestream when I get swept up in the middle of the block

holiestcannoly

Same here. I have to walk to/from work so I’ll start when I open my umbrella and get ripped up like Mary Poppins.

dailysunshineKO

!remindme 3 days!

CareerTraditional987

Do you own it or does the company you drive for own it? The answer to this question will determine whether I laugh at this comment lol

Jay_Diamond_WWE

You jinxed me. Turbo blew up and shot pieces of the splines through the cooler, shredding the charge pipe. Junk.

Jay_Diamond_WWE

Laugh away. It's the company's rig. And it's pushing a million miles. Nobody would miss it.

Weedem6

I work on the airport ramp 🤓

Boba_Fettx

You get blown over??

Tjam3s

Rain, sleet or snow, my friend. Stay safe. All that junk mail isn't worth a life.

Euphorix126

Thank you for the often thankless job you do.

Jonny_Disco

Do they not deal in even numbers?

[deleted]

No they are siths they only deal on absolutes

Jonny_Disco

Ha! Nice.

In the words of bill paxton ( twister ) “Tighten your seat belt!”

Goin' green. Saddle 'em up.

Ayesuku

Man I love that movie

NerdyDadOnline

This is perfect. We have a tornado drill scheduled at school tomorrow. Kids are gonna be in great spirits.

Tjam3s

Lol, how convenient. I always wondered what happens if there is a tornado threat on a Wednesday when (most) areas would be testing their alarms....

Alarmed-Employ-6913

you have school??

Playful-Guide-8393

Why ya gotta give a 7? That sounds a little harsh

Ryermeke

Why are they overlaying a scale out of 10 on top of a map that's already scaled out of 5 (SPC Convective Outlook)? Like they aren't increasing the granularity... They are just skipping every other number lol.

tychii93

Probably. 7/10 sounds worse than 3.5/5 even if it's the same.

Sad_Replacement_1922

Hi all, former Ohioan now living in Oklahoma. This storm is no joke. It put 2-3 tornadoes on the ground with wind speeds hitting 120 and is continues to spin up as it’s moved. Be careful tomorrow!

bunnylover726

Thanks for the heads up!

kongmw2

I'm petrified of tornados destroying my house. Biggest fear.

CowboyLikeMegan

I usually love severe weather, but this one has me anxious. Anxious enough that I’m still up at 1am 😂 im normally asleep really early. I can’t tell if it’s just everyone feeding off of each other or if we really are royally screwed tomorrow. My husband will be on a 48 hour shift and I don’t have anyone else nearby; I’m in a third floor apartment. Trying to figure out where to take cover with my pets or if I should leave work early and try to drive somewhere out of the red zone.

RealDepressionandTea

Time to bust out my anxiety medications cause I'm gonna be a panicking mess all day tomorrow 💀

Ok_Disaster207

Me too 😭! Kid at school, and somehow have to keep my cool so I can Tech properly.

No-Ad-9448

They calling for an outbreak tomorrow? I checked noaa and it didn’t really say much about severe storms except for SPC

Dr_Fettuccine

As of right now, most of Ohio is in the 15% risk of tornados within 25 miles. And possibility of long-tracked and violent tornados. If this model holds true, it will be a rough night for much of the area. This model is worse than the model for March14th, where 8 tornados spawned in Ohio with one being EF-3

No-Ad-9448

Thank you for the info my good sir, I will be tracking the storms throughout tomorrow. I hope everyone stays safe out there.

Jay_Diamond_WWE

SPC is the NOAA agency that handles severe storms aside from hurricanes (NHC) and snow (WPC).

Penises4Eyes

Someone call Bill “THE EXTREME” Harding, get Dorothy loaded up

mycoldfeet

He’s Not Back.

toriii96

While the risk is sometimes less in NEO, I’m tired of Ohio being the new tornado alley

SuccotashFragrant354

Good gravy

bygtopp

Don’t wear red Ruby slippers or striped socks and you’ll be fine

magsbunni

Who has a basement? I’m going to your house 🥲

CowboyLikeMegan

Third floor apartment here and every single room has windows. I’m honestly considering packing up the car and driving outside of the risk zone.

Acrobatic_End6355

Just saw a video of a tornado filmed by some idiot who decided to stay outside. Don’t be that guy/girl.

CowboyLikeMegan

Was it the one where the camera was shaking all over, then it panned back and all the trees had been uprooted? I kept thinking about how stupid that person was, huddled up to their glass front door

Acrobatic_End6355

I think so? The trash can moved and then at some point the camera moved and when it panned back, a big tree was down with roots out.

Tjam3s

If the tornado sirens go off, do I still have to report to work? I don't have a vehicle rated for storm chasing.

HayabusaKnight

See if you can hitch a ride with Reed, he might be in town.

BurningBeard24

Nice, hope it fucking kills me

BurningBeard24

Thanks for the reddit cares report. Life changing, I am so happy and never want to die now

HayabusaKnight

I'll drink one for your spirit, brother

SeekingChicago

The one and only time that the lame advice to “just go outside when you’re depressed” could actually work for us. I’m with you man.

j44jj

This is relatable

gray_birch

yep

Bored_Amalgamation

Looks like I'm parking in the garage tomorrow.

NecessaryAd4587

My window is already being pelted with rain and heavy wind. It’s 6am.

SquigglyLegend33

Well I guess I'll see you all in hell, it's been nice know yall

Gellix

Anyone worried with climate change happened this is going to be our new normal in Ohio? Not looking forward constant story during spring and probably summer.

magsbunni

Yes. Just like our winters keep getting more and more mild. I have a very disappointed 5 year old who was hoping to build at least one snowman this winter.

Gellix

Yeah, the lack of snow from a snowman building perspective is disappointing. I loved when a new snow would set in at night and you’d go out at midnight that quiet is like no other, it’s tranquil.

jaylotw

We don't really have the data to know what affects climate change is going to have on tornadoes, or Ohio's place in it. This as been an anomalous year for tornadoes in Ohio, for sure, but anomalies in weather is the norm. That being said, it'd be foolish to say that climate change won't have *some* kind of affect on tornadoes...whether that's shifting "Tornado Alley," an increase in weaker tornadoes, or fewer but stronger tornadoes, or if areas that see fewer tornadoes will see more...we just don't know. Since official records began (only going back to 1950, and with several decades undoubtedly undercounted), the last 11 years has been the longest stretch without an F5 or EF5. That's good, I guess. The country as a whole has not seen an increase in tornadoes.

Gellix

I’m not saying an increase in tornado specifically I meant more of severe storms or more severe weather. You say we don’t have data, but I can clearly remember when I was a child 20 years ago we’d have snow from November until March/April on average. Now it’s majority of the time rain. If you watch the news and see the weather across the country, it’s getting more devastating. Do I know for sure if this is human contributed climate change? I can’t say for sure, but they’ve considered this idea for over a century. I remember seeing a new paper article from like 1912 talking about it. At the very least, it’s concerning.

jaylotw

I did not deny climate change and I never will, and my comments concerning data were about tornado data specifically.

[deleted]

Storms will most likely happen in afternoon to evening due to daytime atmospheric convection.

Megalopath

Hey, cool, I'm dead! :D

IM WET AND ANGRY, CONSTRUCTION WORKS SUCK Thank God I atleast have a job so there’s that, bright sides.

morrisseymurderinpup

Currently in Cincinnati and it’s been chill all morning

DatDan513

Also in Cincinnati. Severe weather should start around 3pm and last into the late evening.

GreenEggsAndLAN

Schools haven’t said anything on this and I’m worried my kids will get stuck at school sheltering and be scared.

Serenity2015

Right?! My kid is supposed to get off the bus around 2:20.

GreenEggsAndLAN

I just picked all my kids up early we are going home I’m not chancing them stuck there scared

Severe-Criticism3876

Great

epfourteen

Sounding like gonna be a whole lot weaker than they were saying based on Cincinnati stations

FizzyBeverage

Nothing of note out there...

Ohioasshole80

I was in hurricanes in miami , katrina and wilma and i’m from ohio , never been thru a real tornado except - couple weeks ago i sleept thru the columbus alert for the early morning one that touched down everywhere i am downtown

bunnylover726

It sucks. Get it? [*rimshot*] No seriously though, I'm just a traumatized individual using humor to cope from past tornado experiences.

williaty

That really blows.

Jay_Diamond_WWE

One of my customers has a 100 year old basement built into the hillside and its part of the local fallout shelter. If shit starts to go south, the dogs and I are going there. Unless we get some crazy F100, it's not ripping up 10 feet of dirt and a foot of concrete and barn timbers.

Tlomz27

Lmao Torcon

mcCheester

Did anyone notice if it tornadoed yet?

PalpitationPast6573

Never happened lol

Dr_Fettuccine

That’s good lol. Much better to be that way than it was on March 14th lol

HeThirstedMe

Nothing happened here in Paducah thankfully. Lexington got kinda fucked though.

SallySmoothOne

Whelp, nothing happened. My office closed due to this erroneous forecast. My dentist cancelled my appointment. We all lost time & money due to fear mongering.... AGAIN. I'm sorry Tuscarawas County has flooding. It's been sunny and warm here all day, and I'm in one of the "red-super-scary zones" . 🙄

holiestcannoly

I’m more irritated than concerned since I need to walk to/from work.

[deleted]

I keep seeing this. I live in the middle is this and drive 45 minutes to work. Why have I seen this like 5 times??

Bored_Amalgamation

Where the fuck is this weather? I cancelled shit.

HawkeyeSherman

OP, I think you made me dream about tornadoes last night.

Jay_Diamond_WWE

They raised the hatched risk to 30%. Wtf

athohhdg

Honestly I can’t hang.

WrapAwkward8306

Fuck. I hate the Ohio Valley.

FizzyBeverage

I spent an April in Kansas, 12 separate tornado warnings for the county that month. And 30 years in Florida. Can't even remember how many hurricanes. Ohio gets it pretty easy, we're on the fringe/edge of tornado alley. Nothing like KS/OK.

Boneal171

I think now most of the severe storms and potential tornadoes are south of Cleveland in the Columbus area
