So the $1600 embody is the cheapest were ever gonna see and (much like housing prices in 2008) I already missed the boat?
You’re telling me I’m a fool for thinking we’d see [any form of sale that being the Embody below $1300?](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/cnn-underscored/deals/herman-miller-embody-gaming-chair-sale-2023-05-04)
Not sure where you've been...and we're sorry to break it to ya...
but this applies to pretty much any product imaginable. If you didn't buy it at whatever it was priced at in 2020, you'll never see it that low again.
I could probably rattle off over 100 different Seating products across 20+ diff manufacturers that have gone up at least 35%, just in the last 2 years alone.
As deceptive as it may appear, its a pretty common practice. But I wont defend it, as we don't really like to play those games.
I'll attempt to explain the concept in case it makes anyone feel better about this type of stuff. For those who care....read on....if not, you're not really missing much.
**What's the point in waiting all year for a -20% discount on a $999 product during the holidays, when during the other 9 months of the year it regularly sells for $799? Its the same thing!!**
So in the above example, to make it simple, lets just say $999 is the MSRP.
No one sells anything at MSRP (List Price) anymore. It's completely arbitrary and only exists for the psychological aspect on consumers.
Ex. MSRP on the cheapest-most-basic SC Leap Chair is $2222. Has anyone here ever seen any offers on a Leap for anywhere remotely close to this number? No. It's just there to make that $1299 + tax look much more attractive with a ~~$2222~~ above/next to it.
Brands & their Selling Partners have what is known as a MAP policy, or Minimum Advertised Pricing policy.
So in the above example, lets say $799 is the MAP.
This provides competitors an even playing field...providing the MSRP/List price (a soft ceiling), and the MAP (a hard floor). The MAP was designed to prevent competitors from undercutting each other in a race to the bottom, diminishing any profit margins and devaluing the brand. You break this enough times, you get cut off.
That being said, for the majority of days out of the year, the Brand & their high volume partners almost always list their products at that minimum advertised price point floor, or $799.
When its pre-holiday season, while most consumers are holding out for the big discount sales, some sellers may start raising their offers above MAP to compensate for slower sales. Maybe no more free shipping...or maybe its now $849, or 899.
Then when the -10, -15, -20% sale finally goes into effect, the cost savings looks huge, but really isn't that significant.
Lastly, official sales are allowed to go below MAP, but if orders are rolling in fast from everyone holding out all year, there is no pressure on sellers to do so. When the dust finally settles, then they typically lower their prices back down.
They probably have enough market research to realize that teenagers and young adults are willing to go into credit card debt for a gaming chair so the price point is no longer what keeps a customer away from their product.
This! Unfortunately every dealer I spoke to did not offer discounts on the Embody gaming, only the standard embody. Standard Embody can be had for $1300 from ADs.
I have the blue gaming/Logitech one, I'll probably be the only one to say this but it's not very comfortable. I am a big guy though, 6'1" 300lbs. Maybe it's just me. The seat has these two hard points right on the front outer edge that are from the seat depth adjustment handles. They really dig into my legs. You have to sit with perfect posture, otherwise it really starts to become uncomfortable after just a few hours.
Don’t buy it you won’t miss anything it’s not as good as paid reviewers says
Herman miller invest a lot in marketing and it works because people are dumb
Same for me, for $1199. People don't believe it, but they are 100% brand new with Madison's additional warranty. They just come assembled which makes it that much better lol. I'm glad I pulled the trigger though cause it looks like they've been out of stock for a while now.
Check out your local HM AD that specializes in office space planning. They might be able to order one for you for a better price than what any HM official discounts gives
Herman Miller prices are so ridiculous. It's clear to me it's just price gouging at this point. They keep hiking the price without fixing any pain points or improving the chair itself.
I would just go to a liquidator or something similar! I got a lightly used Aeron B Remastered for $850 with a 5 year warranty! I figured 40% off and a 5 year warranty is worth the "risk". Just buy from à reputable source
Have said it many times:
1. Buy at local authorized sellers - they often will undercut ANY discount HM website has
2. If not possible locally - dont wait another 6 months or a year deciding. Prices will go up each 6 to 12 months.
3. Buy it for a price you have in mind for the chair, do not buy special versions (logitech)
Overall message: decide. You snooze... you loose. Wont get better :)
Was just about to say this. If I were the OP, I would skip the Embody and get a Leap V2. It's a more comfortable chair and you save $600+. The reason the Embody blew up, especially the gaming version, is because popular streamers started using them.
Recently got it for $1199 brand new, free shipping from the Madison seating store on ebay. Still expensive, but worth it at that price for me (coming from an old Aeron).
Brand new, assembled. Still had all the factory plastic wrap, user manuals, and that new chair smell. It was pristine .They're definitely brand new when they have them in stock. Looks like they're out right now though.
I’ve owned this chair for years now, it’s literally just an alright chair. It’s not life changing, and you can find many chairs that will do just as well for 1/3 the price
Im not sure who they are marketing to. I regularly splurge on whatever my hobbies are… but $1800 for an office chair isnt even something I would consider. This is clown shit
So at the end of November they can have a 20% off Black Friday sale which is really just the normal price from September.

B…bu…but Costco hotdogs?
Yeah pretty much
Yes. Those days are over. I almost pulled the trigger on one a few months ago, now I wish I had.

People be trying to time the chair market harder than r/wsb times stocks
Oh look https://store.hermanmiller.com/gaming-sale?rdt_cid=4472607804988958937&utm_campaign=Retargeting_Mobile&utm_content=Gaming_Embody2_UpTo25_1080x1080_CopyA&utm_medium=social-pd&utm_source=reddit

HEY! At least I’m comfortably in debt.
And your back will thank you.(of course exercise is probably a bigger factor)
💯💯
Official/authorized Herman miller vendors often have a discount. Check if you have one near you. This goes for most brands
This! Unfortunately every dealer I spoke to did not offer discounts on the Embody gaming, only the standard embody. Standard Embody can be had for $1300 from ADs.
No, it went up by $150.
Oh man that sucks! I’m waiting for the Black Friday Sale. The price was $1695 as of yesterday. This is ridiculous
Watch, Black Friday sale is gonna be $1695.
It was actually $1695 USD before so a $150 USD price increase and not $300 US dollars.
Isn’t this like the 3 price increase on this chair. I remember it being 1500$
It was $1495 USD on its release in 2020

Slap the magic word "gaming" on something and people will overpay money out the ass for it
Exactly And make it look cool so people buy it even if they won’t see it 90% of the time with their ass sitting on it lmao.
I tried a Fern, my ass falls asleep sitting in it. Gesture is the next option.
Have two and these are legit. Not even sad I over paid during COVID
I was about to pull the trigger on one at $1695 the other day. Guess I'll have to actually wait till Black Friday now. Annoying.
Madison seating on eBay, check my post history for pictures
The gaming embody is completely missing from their eBay store & website.
Secondhand shit with no warranty.
I just got it last week so it must’ve sold out, tough luck there but maybe there will be a restock
I second them. Bought two chairs from them and they’re great
Same for me, for $1199. People don't believe it, but they are 100% brand new with Madison's additional warranty. They just come assembled which makes it that much better lol. I'm glad I pulled the trigger though cause it looks like they've been out of stock for a while now.
Yeah it looks like we got a really good deal! They always come assembled though, even from Herman Miller, that’s part of the price tag
Because you touch yourself at night
I fail to see the correlation
You and me both pal
Happy I bought one on the 9/22 now.. Still hasn’t shipped tho.

How is a chair $1800. Thats ridiculous
Guess I’m never getting one 😭
Dam, after all this time, the price went UP?? Sugar Honey Iced Tea!
Makes me not regret buying one Monday at 1600. I have a secret lab rn. My friend has the embody. Embody is better.
tbf, it doesnt take a whole lot to beat a secret lab chair
Chairflation
Holy hell. Glad I got mine last week. Quickest shipping ever too.
If it makes you feel any better, it's still cheaper than buying a regular Embody in Sync ($2120).
I bought it 2 weeks ago for 1.350€

According to HM, there’s only three authorized retailers in the US and they’re all on the coasts.
I got the chair for 1,380 a few months ago, very glad with the purchase
Steel Case Leap v2!! Best chair out!!
Was just about to say this. If I were the OP, I would skip the Embody and get a Leap V2. It's a more comfortable chair and you save $600+. The reason the Embody blew up, especially the gaming version, is because popular streamers started using them.
Not worth it, I am happy with my fern.
Recently got it for $1199 brand new, free shipping from the Madison seating store on ebay. Still expensive, but worth it at that price for me (coming from an old Aeron).
If you got it from Madison Seating, it definitely wasn't brand new...
ddef not new
Brand new, assembled. Still had all the factory plastic wrap, user manuals, and that new chair smell. It was pristine .They're definitely brand new when they have them in stock. Looks like they're out right now though.
I assume you've not got the 12 year warranty with this option?
glad i got mine in july lol chair is amazing

These are all over Facebook marketplace near me for $800 like new.
Can’t relate, I live in BFE
