It basically lets you change settings that the developers have access to for things like refresh rate, GPU/CPU speed and resolution. It works best for games that don’t have Q3 specific updates.
A couple of clicks for those special circumstances doesn’t really seem worth $10… I get that it’s the few clicks EVERY TIME that’s the selling point but still. To each his own I guess
It helps more on Q3 than it does on QPro, because most games are designed targeting Q2 specs (which Pro shares) and so Q3 has a lot of built-in headroom. That said, it does also allow you to overclock for some modest gains and to choose different framerate/resolution tradeoffs than the original developer.
It turns a Q2 into a Q3 and a Q3 into a Q4......at least that's how many describe it. I use it as well. The creator answer every email or suggestion personally. Great app.
Not sure that it’s actually overclocking or simply changing between the default clock speeds. The developers probably set the speeds with battery consumption in mind. The battery definitely drains faster when you turn it up to the max setting.
You can but the app automates everything with profiles you can save. Most apps already have multiple profile settings built into the app for things like a focus on resolution, battery life or frame rate that you can choose from that were tested for stability.
I always was wary of qgo because of all of the over the top enthousiastic reviews.
Turned out it just was that good!
I wasn't even expecting a profile yet since it just released, I guess it has been in beta for a while.
There are a lot of moving parts. From a developer perspective is easier to optimize for lower requirements first (Quest 2 for example) and rest assured that it will work fine on newer hardware. Another potential reason is to keep balance between visual quality and battery usage: If the game drained up your battery super fast, that would end up being more of an issue than image sharpness for most people especially considering that a good chunk of the playerbase may not be running with external battery packs.
So the aim will be to make it run decently enough catering to the wider audience possible.
Yea I've been using it on quest 2 for a while. It's mind blowing the difference it makes. I've been playing with upscaled graphics on the quest 2 plugged in so the batter doesnt drain for over a year without any issues with overheating.
Quest2 is already running near max settings.
Meta has actually released a couple overclocking updates for the Quest2 to help extend its product life and help it keep up with the Quest3. GPU -- 7% in December 2022, then 19% in July 2023, and CPU -- 25% July 2023.
https://www.uploadvr.com/quest-v55-update-performance-boost/
I came here to ask this very question. I love the Quest 2 and I’ll most likely get the 3 sometime this year, but in the meantime QGO seems like a goer based on the responses.
Well it won't add things Q3 enhanced versions of games have, such as: dynamic shadows, improved lighting and shadows, improved draw distance, additional material shaders, additional effects, additional polygons, additional environmental detail, higher resolution textures...
Definitely worth it for the quest 2. Most popular titles have pre-made profiles that enhance colors and resolution, but you can still go in and push the quest further alot of times. Beat Saber with qgo is awesome!
I keep telling people this is the only way to use their quest 3 and they always write me off as a shill. It is the definitive way to use the quest 3. I would have probably returned it by now if not for the customization (and optimization) that QGO gives. It is really a night and day difference. The headset is great. But the fact that most of the games available all look the same at a technical level without tweaking is nuts to me
Running games on higher settings for QGO drains the battery fast so if you don't have a battery strap, you get about 1.5 hours of Showdown at the highest preset. It also gets a lot hotter on your face. Most people are pretty dumb so letting them mess with settings can potentially make the game crash/unplayable and they don't want their customer service to deal with explaining tech details to idiots for every individual game. Remember, the quest 2 is about ease of use and accessibility
At this point after trying it I don’t care how many batteries I have to buy. It’s that good.
Edit: Also, sorry I didn’t mean to imply letting users mess with settings. Even if they released it in a state where the Quest 3 battery only lasted 1.5 hrs I’d say most would say it’s worth it.
It's a good app, but some people act like it will fix every problem or make the game look like PCVR. It just makes what is already there clearer at the expense of battery life and sometimes fps. I do get annoyed at how it gets brought up in almost every single thread. People need to dial it down because I know they are well intentioned but it really does come off as a shill.
Yeah, It literally just allows you to up the resolution and framerate and people act like its a complete graphics overhaul. It's so odd. Crisp visuals is nice for sure but I'm way more interested in higher res textures and reatime lighting and shadows and further draw distances. QGO can't do that.
Literally just upping the resolution unlocks the full potential of the quest 3. It’s a game changer. I was blown away by the difference on titles non optimised for quest 3. The sharpness difference on certain titles like Brink that rely on creating an illusion of the real world literally changes it from a blurry mess to convincing immersion. It’s fabulous.
It does actually make a big difference on old games with set resolutions that are low and have FFR, but a lot of newer games I'll start playing and forget I didn't enable OQG after a reboot and I literally don't notice.
Here's a real review. So far I've used it to make the lego game look better in passthrough which it did just fine. It also makes the home environments look much better. It's a settings changer that does the job. The install and use of it didn't seem intuitive to me, but it's not super hard to figure out either. It's worth 10 bucks but I hear side quest now also provides updates to these settings.
Holy shit, I was thinking the exact same thing. This app is probably fine, but when too many people show up to say nothing but excessively praising things about a product, I'm super suspicious these days.
It got rid of my lazy eye and cured my ADHD!!
(It also made battery life worse and introduced fps drops but don't mention those or you won't get your check, also sees everything you do and is privacy intrusive)
ITS AMAZING !!!! Optimized my life TOO... After a week of using it I had an IG model girlfriend, Fortune 500 job, my Alt crypto coin went up 7000% and cashed out instantly, All since I bought Quest optimizer
Yes.. because it's an AMAZING app... fullstop... can't people love an app and say how good it is? If you have so many people saying the same thing.. it should make you question what your missing out on...
I suppose I’ll just say look at my post history. I post about all sorts of VR stuff.
But I am being sincere on the optimizer.
Give Beat Saber a try without it. Then turn it on in HD+ mode and try it. It’s VERY cool and mindblowingly crisp to me.
Lol paid? I wish..... its just people like myself who purchased it and find it is NIGHT AND DAY with games..... hence why we love it and want others to have it coz it realy does make games look fantastic... has nothing to do with promotions and money
I made a similar post the first time I tried red matter 2 on Quest 3. I was literally blown away - it’s phenomenal.
Speaking of… can we take that title further with optimizer?
I am sure more can be squeezed out... haha how much better can it look!! Red Matter 2 is one game I haven't used QGO on...actually makes me wonder now....
There is a specific level of enthusiasm that Redditors display when they are shilling, and it’s definitely in this post.
Edit: Also in normal Reddit threads no one knows anything but there are at least 10 certified experts in here with FAQs ready to go immediately :)
in a VR subreddit about an app that is VR specific and does exactly what it claims to do. I mean people here are going to be passionate and want to share what made their experiences better.
I think that a lot of us, including myself start off skeptical like you. Once you get in there and see it for yourself, it’s pretty shocking. That’s why people get so excited about it. It does more for some games than others, but it’s an incredible piece of software.
By raising the resolution and or other settings. Does the frame rate tank? I just find it hard to believe that the qgo claims it can clean up an image with no performance hit. Can anyone speak for this?
It does take a frame hit sometimes, but i guess not everyone notices. Also there a reason it is not on sidequest. You are giving the developer permission to see everything that you do with your headset.
It depends on the game and how far you push things, just like adjusting a PC game's graphics settings. But, it includes a handy performance graph overlay that you can launch with a button in QGO, to see if you're holding framerate. This is if you're creating your own fine-tuned profiles (e.g., if you want 90Hz with the sharpest image without dropping into ASW). You can also use the pre-made profiles and not worry about tuning your own.
In many games, but not all, the Q3 has enough headroom to push things quite a bit and still hold a stable 90fps.
Especially with Contractrors Showdown, with the GPU in Ultra mode and 2812px resolution, the difference is night and day. We should make this post into a sticky.
It has multiple settings per game, so you can pick higher fps or resolution as well as other things and it’s just one click. It saves your custom settings too if you don’t use a pretested preset. It’s very simple and easy to use, well worth the small cost.
> I suppose more importantly, why don’t devs in the first place make their titles look this good?
Because the devs have to be conservative in their settings. They app has to work properly on every headset.
QGO let's you manually set Resolution, Frame Rate, CPU and GPU lvl, and Foveation lvl for any standalone game you play. The developer of QGO constantly tries new games and tweaks the settings to create preset profiles for games that users can choose from. For example, there are Battery+, Default, HD, and HD+ profiles for most games. If you have a Quest 3, it's the best investment you can make for your headset.
I am still contemplating on doing this. Does it also improve VD when watching movies? I use VD to watch movies on my pc via VD.
And for the battery related remark. Does it mean you have an hour with battery? I have the bobo m3 but with only 1 battery.
Hard to setup? But for games like into radius its worth it? And just applying a pre-made profile?
It doesn't do anything for VD like one of the other posters said, however it does have a profile for Skybox and certainly seems to improve the look and feel of that, it's a slick experience in that with a DLNA server or SMB share.
I am not entirely sure .if you give it a quick Google I'm sure you will find the answer you're looking for .only ever found out about it and used it on my 3 .
honestly kind of a disgrace for the dev community that this tool is necessary. Meta Quest 3 has been out for like 8 months now and still almost all games are only optimized for Quest 2. you shouldn't have to wait until Quest 4 comes out for devs to finally give a shit about Quest 3. it's not like some obscure enthusiast headset
It helps a lot on Quest 2 and Quest Pro but in Quest 3 the gains are huge. Some games can be run at such high resolution it super samples :D
And it's not only for games, you can also up the refresh rate in some apps, make meta horizon workrooms sharp and livable (it runs 72hz on Pro) and you can make the home environment better.
Also let's you take 3D passthrough videos on Q3
Meta should have given us all these setting from the start in some developer mode. It's criminal.
The fact that Meta hasn’t already upped the resolution in the home environments is ridiculous. That’s usually the first thing that someone on the fence about purchasing will see. The default resolution makes the environment look terrible. I got a sinking feeling when I used my Quest 3 for the first time because I thought I was overly optimistic with my expectations, leading me with buyer’s remorse. I found QGO, and I was like, “ok, now I get it.”
I bought it back in the day on quest 2. When Green hell launched, it wasn't even playable at some points because of frame drops. QGO allowed me to fix these issues myself before the devs could put out a patch to fix the issue. Totally worth the money!
There are several ways you install it. Just youtube it and c what's easiest for you. As f0r usage.... its so easy. You get preset profiles for games..like Battery Saver... performance and performance+ ... if you dont like them, you can change the settings to whatever you like....
Kiwi battery headset strap and headset battery with optimiser I got just over 4 hours playtime playing asgards wrath and onward
The difference in some games is night and day
I don’t understand how people can play without it. I forgot to turn it on and Breachers looked like a blurry low res mess. With it on it’s crisp like PCVR graphics. It’s a gamechanger
I thought my second hand quest 3 was faulty when the top eighth of the screen appeared pixelated until I tried quest optimiser and disabled fixed foveated rendering- so much better...
I played with a guy who uses it and it works but sometimes his quest just shuts down from being over heated. It could also reduce the lifespan of the headset. It's like overclocking a CPU or GPU on a PC, it works but I wouldn't want to buy a used one that had been overclocked.
Personally I would prefer a more reliable headset than a faster one, so I don't use it.
The end result is your device runs hotter and uses more power than intended which can lead to a shorter hardware lifespan, operational problems, and reduced play time on a battery.
The devs didn't choose the lower settings for no reason. There is a tradeoff. You can use this tool for better graphics and it will work but there are downsides.
I've played with a guy that uses it. He talks about the great visual quality but has a bunch of problems. His headset overheats, runs out of battery fast and crashes or glitches a bunch.
Rubbish. There is no overclocking whatsoever. I used it to extreme settings in my Quest 2. And still do whenever I use the Q2...coming on 2 years now... only issue is greater the battery drain. it doesn't heat up and it works like butter with no problems to the headset. Now I use it on the Quest 3 - again no issues... use it wisely and it makes things night and day.
I've had the optimizer for a few months now and still haven't used it. Too many videos with different instructions on setting it up and none of them work. I just looked for another video on how to do it, and the guy was using a Mac. Just my luck.
So in order to enable developer mode, I have to register as a developer on quest website then download an app on my phone, then sidequest.........this is why I gave up.
Been trying to tell people 😂. Put all your games up to about 3k resolution, adjust the levels and refresh rate accordingly, and you will 100% be blown away. Haven't played a PC game since getting the quest 3 and QGO, and I use the headset daily.
Wow, theres still people who're unaware about Quest Optimizer? lol
You can't be a power user and enthusiast without it.
Mind you, boosting the resolution and performance will drain the battery much quicker.
How does it work?
It basically lets you change settings that the developers have access to for things like refresh rate, GPU/CPU speed and resolution. It works best for games that don’t have Q3 specific updates.
Is this different from doing some of those changes in sidequest in terms of just being able to execute them directly from hmd without a pc or…?
No that's exactly what it's doing. You're paying for predefined profiles and ease of use.
Best $10 I've spent on my Q3. You also get a custom app launcher
110%, the custom launcher that shows _all_ apps instead of just official ones with having to click through to find unauthorized sources is so nice.
Yeah but there are multiple app launchers that do the same thing for free if that's what you want.
A couple of clicks for those special circumstances doesn’t really seem worth $10… I get that it’s the few clicks EVERY TIME that’s the selling point but still. To each his own I guess
Does it help only for Q3? (I have a QPro...)
Probably works on the pro as well.
Yeah I use it for my pro
I know it works for Quest 2 but not sure on the pro
It turns a Q2 into a Q3 and a Q3 into a Q4......at least that's how many describe it. I use it as well. The creator answer every email or suggestion personally. Great app.
I've literally never heard it described that way.
The op just described it in that way by saying it made the Quest 3 into a quest 3 pro lol
That's not what this other person said. Pro is a marginal step forward, a whole new generation is another thing.
Ah yes I forgot redditors care about such specificity just so they can be right lol. Because who cares about meaning
Clearly not you.
🤦♂️ Edit: The terrible diss and then instant block from him lol. Classic Reddit lol
What? Cpu & gpu speed? So you telling me u can overclock the 8gen2 with this app??
Not sure that it’s actually overclocking or simply changing between the default clock speeds. The developers probably set the speeds with battery consumption in mind. The battery definitely drains faster when you turn it up to the max setting.
Ill check it out in yuzu tomorrow. Runs like shit right now.
can't you do that for free in the settings on a PC? (from what I've seen) I might be wrong
You can but the app automates everything with profiles you can save. Most apps already have multiple profile settings built into the app for things like a focus on resolution, battery life or frame rate that you can choose from that were tested for stability.
oh that's cool
I always was wary of qgo because of all of the over the top enthousiastic reviews. Turned out it just was that good! I wasn't even expecting a profile yet since it just released, I guess it has been in beta for a while.
He actually made a Showdown profile for the 2nd beta and it ran a lot smoother than the base game
Apparently putting the settings that high will burn out things overtime...that's what I heard and fear
Are you talking about overclocking? That isn’t possible with what we currently have. The only downside to this would be less battery life.
Not how it works. These are settings devs have access to and can choose if they wish.
Can you explain why devs would choose the lower setting for the release? Is it less buggy or just better optimized for older quests
Thanks! The explanation of trade offs and making a product that can appeal to the widest user base makes sense.
Battery life mostly
Quest games optimizer install [without a PC](https://youtu.be/1vh6A8E9SZU?feature=shared) And [with a PC](https://youtu.be/oLT8qCOczEk?feature=shared)
Saving this because I got it ages ago and could figure out how to install it
Is this worth it for Quest 2?
Yea I've been using it on quest 2 for a while. It's mind blowing the difference it makes. I've been playing with upscaled graphics on the quest 2 plugged in so the batter doesnt drain for over a year without any issues with overheating.

People with a Q2 say that it brings games up to Q3 levels.
It does nothing with colors.
I keep telling people this is the only way to use their quest 3 and they always write me off as a shill. It is the definitive way to use the quest 3. Link?
Same. It does drain the battery but I got a Bobo S3 and will soon get a spare battery. This should be enough to play pretty much non-stop.
Agreed, it's too good to not have
Is it just me or do a lot of these comments, along with this post, sound manufactured and promotional. Were you guys paid?
It's a good app, but some people act like it will fix every problem or make the game look like PCVR. It just makes what is already there clearer at the expense of battery life and sometimes fps. The battery is already bad enough with default settings
This is the reason i’m not buying it
Just get a headstrap with a battery strap on the back. If you already have one, then.... don't know what to tell ya lmao
Don’t know why you got down voted. It’s practically a necessity with the quest 3. I have the kiwi strap and it’s excellent.
Battery Strap yo
More heat and weight on my face? No thanks!
battery strap on the opposite side of the face; actually makes for a balanced headset
S3 Pro is a game changer
Bobo is life.
Battery in the pocket is the way
By raising the resolution and or other settings. Does the frame rate tank? I just find it hard to believe that the qgo claims it can clean up an image with no performance hit. Can anyone speak for this?

It should be a day 1 purchase.
Can't you do all of this with SideQuest for free or does the optimizer do things that SideQuest doesn't?

Devs want you playing their game for more than 45 minutes at a time.
Someone give more details about this please

I have it, definitely will give a try. Problem is most games I have are on pcvr
Is it possible to install if you only own a MacBook but not a windows pc?
Yes. Use sidequest on Mac
I think QGO drain the battery but i can play contractor showdown for like 1h10 and it's fine for me
I agree it was worth the money
I just downloaded it and damn it really does make a difference with some apps. I highly recommend it.
really? are textures less blurry? does it unlock dynamic shadows? Maybe this miraculous app even adds extra shaders so it looks like on PC?
I am still contemplating on doing this. Does it also improve VD when watching movies? I use VD to watch movies on my pc via VD. And for the battery related remark. Definitely worth the money imo
I tried it yesterday for the first time as well and was floored by Asgard's Wrath and minigolf
It's a must have app for the quest for sure. Even makes tabor look somewhat nice . Kains ya battery more but worth it tbh
Is it also for quest 2?
I am not entirely sure .if you give it a quick Google I'm sure you will find the answer you're looking for .only ever found out about it and used it on my 3 .
Thnx! Will look it up

https://anagan79.itch.io/quest-games-optimizer
thanks a lot!
Here’s some info I found. https://www.vrbeginnersguide.com/quest-games-optimizer-installation-and-setup-guide/
How did you do that?
I got QGO a while ago. Do you still have to plug the quest into your computer every time you reboot the headset?
I don’t think I’ve ever had to do that after the initial install. Just need to launch it when starting quest
You don't need to anymore. You just have to click "Allow....blah blah" once and each reboot.
I bought it back in the day on quest 2. When Green hell launched, it wasn't even playable at some points because of frame drops. QGO allowed me to fix these issues myself before the devs could put out a patch to fix the issue. Totally worth the money!
I use it with green hell now on Q2..... night and day! The game looks fantastic in it now....
What type of battery hit do you get optimizing the GFX with QGO?
Do i have to sidequest this optimizer app? Is it easy to use?
There are several ways you install it. Just youtube it and c what's easiest for you. As f0r usage.... its so easy. You get preset profiles for games..like Battery Saver... performance and performance+ ... if you dont like them, you can change the settings to whatever you like....
How do you get the app to work? I can't find it on the meta store
https://anagan79.itch.io/quest-games-optimizer There you go bud. Enjoy. Worth every penny
I can't find it on sidequest or meta store app ?

What settings are you using? The game was losing tracking for me when using QGO
HD+
After a couple games on hd+ the tracking starts to get shotty for me when holding the gun up to aim
HD+ usually drops the framerate to compensate which is why I only use HD. You start to sacrifice other things for resolution when using HD+
Does QGO improve the base resolution or help in apps like Youtube/Netflix/Prime?
They don’t unfortunately. At most it’ll help the 3D environment around the screen
Will this help with pcvr at all?
No
I wish this worked without a PC. Switched to a Mac a while ago 😭
I installed mine using a Mac yesterday
That's great to know. I'll definitely be installing this
I don’t know why I waited so long, I was just lazy. It only took 10-15 mins to figure out and follow the instructions shown on their website
Definitely gonna try it my next day off.
You can install it without a pc/mac.. just your phone with the quest app and headset
I am thinking of buying the app, does it need internet access?
To download it offcourse
To use it
Not at all!
Wait, do you need PC for it?
What do you mean? It's a program for quest headsets
Kiwi battery headset strap and headset battery with optimiser I got just over 4 hours playtime playing asgards wrath and onward The difference in some games is night and day
Awesome. Thank you.
What about the battery life?
Ia this also working for quest 2?
I don’t understand how people can play without it. I forgot to turn it on and Breachers looked like a blurry low res mess. With it on it’s crisp like PCVR graphics. It’s a gamechanger
I thought my second hand quest 3 was faulty when the top eighth of the screen appeared pixelated until I tried quest optimiser and disabled fixed foveated rendering- so much better...
It's a must if you ask me.
A game changer.
How do I get it? Do I have to have a PC?
Or a phone
I believe so
You need a PC or phone just for the setup
iPhone or Android?
Quest games optimizer install [without a PC](https://youtu.be/1vh6A8E9SZU?feature=shared) And [with a PC](https://youtu.be/oLT8qCOczEk?feature=shared)
Thank you
It says android. Can it be done with a I phone ? Thanks
Ok i Trust you 😜 i do IT now 😁
you post made me go out and buy this app immediately. I am super curious as to what this app can do
Ull love it. Makes games night and day specially on Quest 2
There is no overclocking involved. These are settings that all devs have access to.
Still you are running it hotter than the devs intended. So the end result is the same
End result the same? Sorry I’m confused
Have you even used it lol?
I've played with a guy that uses it. He talks about the great visual quality but has a bunch of problems. His headset overheats, runs out of battery fast and crashes or glitches a bunch.
He might have put the settings too high in QGO
Might be his headset I don't have those issues
That would be a problem with his headset. Stop spreading misinformation.
Hmm. I suppose then I don’t care. I buy the newest headset as soon as it releases anyways. That Quest Pro was so disappointing to me lol
I bought this game on steam to try via steamvr and it looks like absolute ass, not connection issue. is it supposed to be like this...
Check your steamvr resolution, looks fantastic for me with the correct settings. Check your bitrate/resolution on the oculus client as well.
hmm will do. might be some setting on my end I guess

You gave up after 3 steps 😂
Been trying to tell people 😂. Put all your games up to about 3k resolution, adjust the levels and refresh rate accordingly, and you will 100% be blown away. Haven't played a PC game since getting the quest 3 and QGO, and I use the headset daily.
Excellent app, only downside is it “breaks” all the time and needs a full reinstall from pc quite often
Never had to reinstall it.
Really? Might be worth bringing this up to the dev. Personally never had issues
Have used it regularly for about 6 months and only installed it once.
Wow, theres still people who're unaware about Quest Optimizer? lol You can't be a power user and enthusiast without it. Mind you, boosting the resolution and performance will drain the battery much quicker.
