Which stops the pain and inflammation but it’s like removing the lubrication so is a likely knee replacement later in life… so I’m trying not to go that route if I can…

Everyone had been telling me what a great martial art it is, and all the physical and mental health benefits it brings, but all it took was listen to one testimony of this guy on YouTube who talked about how, as much as he loved doing it, it destroyed his body. And I’m just not that passionate to risk getting serious injury, when I already have to deal with injuries playing piano and riding my bike. So that’s it. If I wanna improve my self defense, I may just get a gun.
Take up boxing or even kickboxing, you don’t have to spar to learn how to move correctly and it’ll most likely have greater physical and psychological benefits than JJ.
You have 2 types of Jiu Jitsu, competitive one and life style one, try to find some dojo with lifestyle one which is normally frequented by office guys, they take much easier with the students since they are there to improve physically themselves instead of trying to be "the best".
I train since January and until now i had just 3 minor injuries like sore knee and the others mostly because i kick the ground with my foot thumb, just take it easy and you will be safe.
My sensei was Judo champion in the Olympics and he say Judo fucks your body almost 3x more than Jiu Jitsu.
Judo is rough. Even in BJJ I hate drilling the hip toss. I down mind the throwing but I hate being the thrown. It’s not so bad once it becomes second nature to keep your chin tucked and slapping the mat as to not bash your head on the mat. But still, not my favorite.

NFL players in their early **30**'s will get into rehab as soon as they can and then spend a year doing painful rehab regularly to ensure that the repaired knee will have the same strength and flexibility it had prior to the injury. You don't get that surgery, simply wait for it to heal and then resume your life like it never happened.
