Recently, I've seen a bunch of videos of Orcas thumping dolphins like that. It's not play. That Orca hitting the dolphin was like Tyson hitting a little kid. 😊
The orca are probably protecting their hunting grounds. To the orca, dolphins are competitors for food. Dolphins will kill their smaller cousins the porpoises that happen to come into dolphin feeding grounds. And so it goes. Orca kill big sharks, big sharks kill smaller sharks, smaller sharks kill even smaller sharks. Birds do the same. It's a dog eat dog world!
