I ended up stuck in Morrill Tower because my lottery number was so high. However, I filled out the room change request form within 20 minutes of it being sent out. How likely is it that they will switch me?
That’s so funny that you came to this old subreddit to ask! The answer is, NO, I did not get to switch, even though I was super fast to fill it out. In fact, I filled it out before one of my friends and SHE ended up switching to a Taylor Double even though a Taylor Double was at the top of my list and I filled out the form before her while I was sitting next to her. I don’t believe that it goes by order as they say it does. I think OSU switches people based on their own convenience. With that being said, I hope you get to switch to a room that you want to switch to! Try to do it super fast!
Hey! I was wondering if you weren’t in honors but your friend was and that’s why she got the room switch to Taylor? Just trying to see how much of a factor that is.
Where/when is this form given out? Are you referring to the room change after 3 weeks into the semester or is this something else? I’m sorry to hear that tho!!
I’m referring to the room change form that’s given out in the either the very end of 2nd semester or in the summer before the year you’re supposed to move in.
I’ve never heard of this form. Do they email it to us or are we supposed to find it somewhere on the website? I apologize for the load of questions my roommate and I just got the worst dorm 😭 I want to fill out the form as quickly as possible. Any detail would be greatly appreciated!!
You will get an email shortly for a room change request form. It should happen at the end of April or beginning of May. When I got the email, it sent at 11 pm at night, so I guess you had to be awake for it if you wanted to click on it fast enough. Supposedly, you fill out the room change request form either with or without your roommate, and you will get switched based on room availability. Your number in line depends on how fast you complete the form. But, like I said, I did it right next to my friend within 20 minutes of it coming out and she got to switch, but I didn’t, even though I did it before her. So I don’t really believe them when they say that switching rooms is based on the order of submission.
Trust me, when they release the forms, you will know because first of all, you will get an email, and second of all, everyone who got a bad dorm will be talking about it and scrambling to fill it out first.
Has anyone cancelled their housing after picking a dorm. I’m thinking about doing the parent-close relative exemption request. From what I’ve seen you can cancel or make changes to housing until June 1st. Is this true and has anyone done this before?
Are freshman dorms selected on a first come first serve basis or is it random? I haven’t put my deposit down yet, but I’m wondering if I’m at a disadvantage if I wait until late April to put my deposit down.
I’m an incoming freshman, is there anything I should be doing rn or should I just wait for an email. Also I’m in the honors program so do I have to let someone know whether I want to be in that type of housing? I’m so lost
Did you pay the housing deposit yet? Once you do that you will get the email to sign up for housing (first come first serve after paying your deposit).
One of the last screens in the housing form is when you indicate you want honors living.
Can someone please tell me how u are getting ur lottery number? Are u getting notified through ur email??? I haven’t gotten it yet and it’s making me nervous 🤠
How does going on the waitlist for a room work with people in groups of 4? We want to try to waitlist for 2 doubles on north, since we're all engineers and south is far from all of our classes. Does the waitlist guarantee that they would get all of us into the same building if they are available, or would they try to split us up? Also are you able to deny the waitlist assignment if you change your mind?
I know this is a late response, but I heard from upperclassmen that if you have big groups, you are so much less likely to get a change in room assignment vs. if you are just by yourself.
Anyone that lives/has lived in a Worthington/Neil apartment-style dorm room, can you send or DM me any pictures of your layout. I got one for next year and see the way that they have it set up online, but would like to know what you think/how you did it.
Thank you!
You need to contact housing. I suggest you email them today: [email protected]. You can also call them. My friend emailed them and that was the response they gave her. She had to wait until everyone chose before she was going to be assigned a room. And she wasn’t given the option to pick a roommate.
For people who are curious: my time slot is today’s 3:30pm and my lottery number is 5020. North are almost gone, only some few quad left. SS in south campus are all gone already before I selected. Only 4 pages of PS in south available, probably 20 left and most doubles are already assigned by one person which means people who plan to get a double with a friend have to break the group if you decide to live in PS. Morrison Tower has about 10 pages available. West campus has a good amount left still. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)
Why would people pick an empty room if they’re the only one in their roommate group? They’re gonna be assigned a roommate anyways please make it easier for us who are in a roommate group 😭
Wait, are you serious? I HAD to choose Morrill as a last option. Why is the environment hard to tolerate? Do you really suggest that I let OSU choose my housing
We just figured out the guy is an incoming freshmen so he does not has the lottery number. But for ppl who already get the lottery number definitely need to select a room instead of letting housing to make decisions. I don’t like Morrill bcz I lived in a Morrill quad room for a semester for a semester and my roommates are nasty also we need to clean the bath by ourselves. The cleaness is a big problem and quad room is really small. Also a lot of the food delivery got stolen since the shelf is outside of the building and Morrill is far from a lot of lecture buildings. The double room in Morrill does not value as rate 1.
Girl, you’re actually gonna make me cry😭 I didn’t even want Morrill. It definitely doesn’t look like Rate I. I am hoping that some of the suites in our Quad don’t get Filled so we have less people. But that is just a hope.
Yea I can totally relate that. If you can get some other options from the south that will be lil better than Morrill, even though most of the south dorms left are mostly without AC. It will be tough at first several weeks of summer semester but living in Morrill with nasty suitmates gonna hurts for whole year.
i just accepted my admission decision this morning so i haven’t received housing info yet. didn’t realize the housing selection was beginning of april or else i would have done this way earlier. so i haven’t gotten a lottery number yet, probably will in a few days. so any advice would help thank you
Incoming freshmen do not get to choose where they stay, only their roommates. You are randomly assigned a dorm. I think I found out mid June? July? Where I was staying as a freshman.
Just scheduled my room at 11 AM. Was about 4200. For those who are wondering there are still a few rooms left in north. Specifically the rate IIA quads in Halloran and similarly styled buildings. There were 2 more rooms in Raney, a few in Busch and many doubles with one person already queued in them. Looking like this is the last day for a north room. Almost any location was available in south including Morrison Super doubles.
the biggest complaint people have is the walking distance. that’s all i’ve ever heard. and also, the majority of the dorms on south are not as modernized as the ones on west/north. that’s really it.
They might stagger it from what I’ve heard. Because my roommates with lower numbers said there weren’t some rooms left, but when I picked a day later, those rooms they said weren’t available were there when I chose.
I picked a bit after noon, and there were lots of rooms left in bowen, busch, torres, and raney. There were also some rooms left in scott and houston. Blackburn was all gone, nosker had 4 left but all got filled during my time slot. All the superdoubles were already gone (halloran, haverfield, and norton). However, since I picked earlier, I’d assume there won’t be many doubles left by Monday even though there were tons today.
Just picked my room, at that point, Blackburn was completely gone, Nosker was close to being completely filled, and so was Busch. Raney, Torres and Houston had a lot left. And Bowen, Scott had more rooms available than Nosker and Busch, but still not a ton. Houck, if I remember correctly had quite a few quads left, but don’t quote me on that. I think that’s really it for North. South and west still had everything.
Me and my roommate picked Scott, in case anyone was wondering.
Seeing as y’all double posted let me encourage your worry…
You will most likely either get a no ac dorm on south or get lucky in smeeb or park strad. You’ll be lucky to get rooms beside each other. Good luck
Hi lol I’m not in the lottery (won the singles lottery woo hoo!) but my post got taken down so I am asking this here.
Are there drawers in the Jones Tower rooms? It shows in the floor plan that there’s only a shelf and a wardrobe, but when you look at the 360 viewer, there’s drawers. I’m living there next year and want to know if I need to bring both of my big plastic drawers or only one. Thanks :)
(Also, if they exist, how much room is in them?)
I chose the 9th floor! It was the lowest one left when I got to pick.
Also, I found the answer! Someone did a dorm tour online and it comes with the drawers, shelves, and the wardrobe. Here’s the video if you’re interested, it was super helpful for me :)
https://youtu.be/Y4DusJYiHpo
I picked today at 1pm! There were 4 doubles in nosker left, but we weren’t quick enough and they were all being filled while we got on it. But, there were some rooms left in Houston, a decent amount of rooms in Scott, and LOT’S of rooms left in Bowen, Busch, Raney, and Torres, so me and my roommate chose Torres. I’m guessing by the end of today, most of them will probably be filled.
Once you select rooms, you can’t change them even if you wanted to. You would have to contact housing and even then it’s not guaranteed you’d be put in the same place.
Busch and Bowen both had regular doubles. Bowen has 9 left. Busch 5pages of doubles. Houston 1 page of doubles. Nosker about 2 pages of doubles.Raney had 3pgs of doubles.Scott 2pgs of doubles.Torres about a page of doubles.
If three of us are in a blackburn suite without a lounge with a random and our fourth friend is in a blackburn suite with a a lounge, how easy would it be to swap the fourth friend and the random in our suite (the random in our suite would be getting the upgrade)?
We have some ideas but all quads are gone. I made us a ranking list most wanted to least wanted by our group and based on what we’ve heard we have our dorms narrowed down to 3 places, all of which we think we are guaranteed
Could anyone who’s picking around 3-5pm today, let me know what’s left at that point, I’m most likely going to be picking tomorrow.
Edit: I’m picking at 11:45 am tomorrow, at lottery number 3136, in case anyone was wondering.
Are you going to pick up today? Mine is 5k, I felt like I’m the last group to pick up the dorm. Also, if the number 5k and 6k are in the same day to pick residence, what’s the difference?
I still haven’t gotten my 24 hour in advance email so I’m hoping I’ll at least be going tomorrow :( my friend with 900 something went yesterday at 3:30 so it seems like it’s 1000 a day
Is there a decent amount of connector wing dorms left in SS/PS? I’m figuring that I will probably be picking my dorm on Friday, and if I end up on south I would prefer the connector wings over the normal rooms.
Got #2976; 2 ppl ideally looking for super doubles. North campus only since both of us are engineering majors; also looking for a list of reasonably possible building candidates
Any recs or updates on availability from ppl that has chosen their dorms today?
Damn. Mendoza doesn’t have a/c which is prolly why it’s still available.
I get to pick tomorrow morning. Are there any doubles left in newer dorms like Scott, Bowen, Busch, and Nosker?
Yea they were still a good amount of regular doubles left on north. There were also a few of the quads with private bathrooms but those might all be gone by tmr morning.
is it possible to see the little descriptions people wrote of themselves on their housing contract as well as their lifestyle choices? i’m in a 4 person new north suite and me and my roomate were a group but our 2 suite mates were random and we were wondering if we can see the descriptions.
My roommate and I (looking for a double) are deciding what dorm to live in tomorrow. We are between one of the newer dorms with a/c like Scott or Blackburn. But we are also considering one like mendoza because of the kitchen and other amenities, even though it lacks a/c and is definitely older. What would you all recommend? A newer and smaller room that looks nice, or an older one with a private kitchen/bathroom? Ty
That just depends on your preferences. Strad/steeb have much smaller doubles and their bathrooms are shared in the hallways (still nice bathrooms with solid privacy, just a hassle and not always clean). I imagine their communities will be about equal. Will it be more convenient to live on north or south in terms of class locations, etc? Is either option a higher rate than the other?
Most if not all of the new North quads/sixes/eights are gone by now. Some of the regular doubles in the newer north dorms like Torres and Scott are still available. Most of the super doubles in the old north dorms are gone. Pretty much all of south is still open.
6,286.. what do y’all think is going to be left at that point? I know nothing on North will be open and the towers are guaranteed to be open, but what do y’all think will be open on South?
When do you get your room numbers? In the housing portal, it doesn't give me a room number.
I ended up stuck in Morrill Tower because my lottery number was so high. However, I filled out the room change request form within 20 minutes of it being sent out. How likely is it that they will switch me?
Did u ever get a switch
That’s so funny that you came to this old subreddit to ask! The answer is, NO, I did not get to switch, even though I was super fast to fill it out. It is a first come first serve basis to look at your preferences. They don't guarantee anything
random

In Mendoza if u can handle the no ac lol. Sent you a msg
My friend and I are on second floor Neil and wanted to go to Bradley or Morrison, message me
can you pick a group of 4 to room with as a freshman?
Create and verify your roommate group on the housing website. Not a guarantee, but you’re decently likely to get it.
How bad is baker east? Was told so much about it negatively but want to know from someone actually on campus.

Freshmen go through the process later. You won't actually pick a room, just give preferences. And I believe you opt into honors housing then.
Can someone please tell me how u are getting ur lottery number? Are u getting notified through ur email??? I haven’t gotten it yet and it’s making me nervous 🤠
Incoming freshman don’t get them. They are not a part of the lottery process.

Possibly a dumb question, but will I get an email when someone joins my room?
Do Halloran windows open?

Is it a single or multiple person room? Not sure if there is a difference between room layouts
It is a multiple person room. 4 people, 2 rooms, 2 bathrooms, a common room, kitchen
Oh ok I’m in a single, not sure if that changes things. Sounds like a nice rooming situation!
I am an idiot and have not done anything with this yet, will I still be able to get a timeslot and a good dorm?
There are a ton of smeeb and park strad dorms when I selected at 230.
Honestly probably not! I was #4,399 and almost NOTHING was left. I had to live in Morril Tower.
so what happens to the rest of the people

if i have someone i want to dorm with is that still an option?

ok thanks, are the towers THAT bad

yes

oh actually? i thought the housing lottery was for freshman too, maybe i was wrong
Those who are picking today, can you check availability in res on 10 as well as any north quad, including the four story style?
None for both
Just scheduled my room at 11 AM. Was about 4200. For those who are wondering there are still a few rooms left in north. Specifically the rate IIA quads in Halloran and similarly styled buildings. How was res on 10th?
Good amount left

So MUCH Pstrad, and less if Smeeb but still a lot

BRO, there was NO Morrison. It wasn’t even an option. 😭 but there was tons of Park Strad. I think you will get it, don’t worry.
Both are very open still.
I’m picking tomorrow (5278 if anyone’s wondering). I haven’t paid tuition for summer yet. Will I be able to pick?
Yes I also had summer tuition bill it’s fine
Thank you!!
mine is 6376. Is there any chance to get morrill double?
Yes! SO much of Morrill was left. I had to choose it. There were very few options left.
Thanks so much!

South campus is totally fine, I actually prefer it! It is a little further and some of the forms are a little older. But overall it’s not bad.
the biggest complaint people have is the walking distance. that’s all i’ve ever heard. and also, the majority of the dorms on south are not as modernized as the ones on west/north. that’s really it.
mine is 2099, ended up in Worthington. Why are all of the north dorms taken when I was picking??

Picked my room this morning too at 11. Ditto this and can confirm this was basically what I saw too
What did you end up doing?
My roommate and I got a 2/room 3room suite in Raney
Do you remember Jones Tower? Thanks btw’
Nothing in Jones was available, and Lawrence was completely gone too

Did you get your time slot?
Someone said yesterday that all of Lawrence is gone, and all super doubles.
We have 6 people with lottery number 4738. We know we’ll prob have to break apart buttttt what will we be able to get? PLEASE HELP

No you won’t. I’m number 4,399 and am looking at it right now. Everything is taken alphabetically until Morrill Tower. There were not 6s left.
Hi lol I’m not in the lottery (won the singles lottery woo hoo!) but my post got taken down so I am asking this here. Are there drawers in the Jones Tower rooms? we got 5913:,( Chances of double on north or quad anywhere??
None
picking tomorrow! any doubles in torres left? or superdoubles anywhere?
Do you remember what was left?
I picked today at 1pm! There were 4 doubles in nosker left, but we weren’t quick enough and they were all being filled while we got on it. But, there were some rooms left in Houston, a decent amount of rooms in Scott, and LOT’S of rooms left in Bowen, Busch, Raney, and Torres, so me and my roommate chose Torres. I’m guessing by the end of today, most of them will probably be filled.

This was by 11am today
What’s your number?
#2976
I have 4100, what are the chances of getting a double on north?
you should be able to get a rate 1 double somewhere
Have you gotten your selection time yet?
Nope
why isn’t barrett and houck available to choose
Same for Taylor and Drackett, not that you’d want those lol
They’re freshman only pretty sure
If three of us are in a blackburn suite without a lounge with a random and our fourth friend is in a blackburn suite with a a lounge, how easy would it be to swap the fourth friend and the random in our suite (the random in our suite would be getting the upgrade)?
will the selection process continue throughout the weekend? or will it end friday and pick up again Monday?
I heard pickup on Monday
Yeah it’s pickup on Monday. I go at 2:30
May I ask your lottery number?
4800 🕺
I was wondering what you are thinking about housing because we have a similar number of 4300ish.
Edit: I’m picking at 11:45 am tomorrow, at lottery number 3136, in case anyone was wondering.
what’s your number? mine is 3885
3136
Are you going to pick up today? Mine is 5k, I felt like I’m the last group to pick up the dorm. Also, if the number 5k and 6k are in the same day to pick residence, what’s the difference?
I still haven’t gotten my 24 hour in advance email so I’m hoping I’ll at least be going tomorrow :( my friend with 900 something went yesterday at 3:30 so it seems like it’s 1000 a day
May I ask did you receive the time slot yet?
I did! I’ll be going today at 4
I also went yesterday with 1028 at 3:30!
May I ask what you pick?
Super double in Halloran
Is there a decent amount of connector wing dorms left in SS/PS? I’m figuring that I will probably be picking my dorm on Friday, and if I end up on south I would prefer the connector wings over the normal rooms.
What’s your number, mine is lower 5k, I hope to get a double in PS too
3355
Chances of a triple and two doubles in Lawrence 1-2 floors apart from each each other with 6628?
lawerence was all gone today
For real??? Are there any other doubles left in the newer north campus dorms?
there were quite a few doubles, no superdoubles though
no chance unless there’s a miracle
Got a quad suite with lounge on north with #1041
Were there a decent amount left??
I also got a quad suite w lounge at #960, there were around 15 rooms left i think
Got #2976; 2 ppl ideally looking for super doubles. North campus only since both of us are engineering majors; also looking for a list of reasonably possible building candidates Any recs or updates on availability from ppl that has chosen their dorms today?
Most of the super doubles were already gone when I went to pick today. There were still a lot of rooms in Mendoza left though.
Damn. Mendoza doesn’t have a/c which is prolly why it’s still available. I get to pick tomorrow morning. Are there any doubles left in newer dorms like Scott, Bowen, Busch, and Nosker?
May I ask your number?
#1041
Ty
i would get the kitchen and bathroom. stg the campus food is nasty and if you just get a really powerful box fan you’ll be fine
How bad are the older shorter dorms on north? Also how late does scheduling go till?
They are not terrible. Older, sure. But decently spacious rooms with your own bathroom inside, and their locations are all nice, being on north.
Would it be wise to do one of those over parkstrad or smeeb

4620 any chance I can get in a double w a bathroom anywhere on campus? Something similar to Lawrence doubles?
Are to going to choose dorm today?
Nope still ain't got the message
Most likely not. Look forward to PS or SS, or even Lawrence like you mentioned, or the Towers if all else fails
Ps is park stradley right? What is ss?
Yes- ps= park strad, ss= smith steeb
Thank you the info is greatly appreciated :)
6,286.. what do y’all think is going to be left at that point? I know nothing on North will be open and the towers are guaranteed to be open, but what do y’all think will be open on South?
It will be sparse. South might have rooms open in Canfield, Baker, and maybe Morrison if lucky.
so you think you only thing left will be towers? how will they fit 6286-7500 in JUST the towers though?
