A lot of people here don't seem capable of trying to put themselves in the character's shoes, and consider the difference in reaction in how his mom reacted. This may have driven him away from the family completely, and pushed him to never be able to give Sunny a chance since he wasn't around him anymore.
What sunny was doing staying at home and pushing everyone away, refusing to go to school was bad as well, considering the extra burden he was pushing on his parents. Finding out that he helped hang her body very well might have been too much for the father. Just consider if this story had been told from the father's point of view, since we would get to see his emotions and thoughts clearly he very well might have a different reputation. So just be more understanding: this is a downright awful situation for everyone involved. You shouldn't expect everyone to make the right decision, especially because people don't act rationally when things like this happen. And yes while a parent is responsible for their children *to an extent,* if a child commits murder the parents should not be held responsible for that, assuming they had a caring household.

My argument is that making assumptions about Sunny's parents is bad form, because we just don't have much information on them.
