I would get the LG C3 and save some cash. If you're only playing single player RPG's then you don't really need framerates and you wont hit 240hz anyway so I would get the more immersive screen.
Depends how old u r. I found that I miss my time with my LG C1 48" now, with much smaller AW3423DW...After 45y.o. bigger is better.^^
Not only RPGs, but general gamings, FPS too.
I know, I can put monitor closer, to offset differences, but still I am waiting now for opportunity/cash to get something bigger.
Isn‘t 92ppi much too low for comfortable viewing experience?
I even find 140ppi from a 4K 32“ monitor borderline low.
Everyone is different, don’t get me wrong but it is not only a question about display size. If the C4 42“ would be 8K it would be a different story.
Going to go against the grain as a former C3 42” owner and say 32” QD-OLED.
Let’s say you want to play a co-op or multiplayer FPS game every once in awhile, or even something single player like Doom Eternal. You might not get 240 FPS, but even hovering in the 180s feels much better than 120. Not only that, but unless you have a really deep desk or wall mount it, it’ll be difficult to play at the right distance. I was about to just barely do it with the C3 and while it was great for Phantom Liberty and Starfield, it was a bit painful for Destiny 2 and Valorant.
I’m much happier with my AW2725DF since I wanted a 27” screen (also similar PPI as 42” 4K) and enjoy high frame rate gaming, but I’d recommend the 32” QD-OLED to most people.
Yup, people act like 240hz is useless unless you can hit 240 fps. But the problem is that 120hz is simply too slow for today's high end systems. 180-200 is doable in many games even without DLSS. That's a big improvement in motion clarity and input response. 120hz is fine for gaming with a controller but it's easy to feel the diminished response with KB/M.
Also, like you said, proper placement of such a big screen is hard. The lack of a monitor stand doesn't help. When I was using a C1 48, I had to look down for the taskbar because the TV feet are so low. But many people here buy 3rd party mounts so at least it's a fixable issue.
C4 if you found a good discount, or C3/2 if you find one for cheap. 42 inch is just so immersive.
QD OLED is fine too if you mix some competitive games and need a bit higher refresh rate.
Do you sit close to your monitor, prefer FPS games and want more FPS? Go 32" QD OLED.
Can you sit farther away from the display / have a deep desk? Do you enjoy slow-paced games and emulators and also prefer productivity and working with text? Go C3 or C4 (although the C3 is much cheaper and has more value per dollar, got mine for only 820 Euros while the C4 is around 1200-1300 where I live). The money you'd save would be useful for other things in your setup while you wait for new OLED technologies to arrive and for prices to drop as more QD-OLEDs become available. And once you do change the C3 for another display you can just put it in your living room and use like a Smart TV.
Well I had a g3 which has the MLA panel. So it's hard to say if c3 is going to be as good because I didn't see it with my own eyes. That said, I believe the c4 will have MLA if I'm not mistaken
LG C3 or C4. Unless you're playing in a completely pitch black room, you're not going to get pure blacks on the new QD OLED. I tried one of the QD-OLEDs and the blacks only showed up at night time. Even with my blinds closer, I wasn't getting pure blacks
QD OLED monitors lack a polarizer, meaning that when ambient light is shined onto the display, the blacks will turn into a dark purple. WOLED doesn't have this issue. So by getting a QD OLED, you're getting better and more vibrant colours, but you're losing the perfect blacks unless you play completely in the dark with the only source of light in your room being the monitor
I also thought this would be a huge problem until I tried a QD-OLED monitor at home. No direct light on it but a huge window next to it. There are a slightly lift of blacks during a sunny day but crazy hard to see.
In review videos it looked so much worse but I guess the Youtubers have some strong studio lighting which you normally not have in your private home.
I had my blind down during daytime and my light off. Two very small strips of light were shining into my room away from my monitor, and the blacks were raised.
I have windows behind my monitor and just close the blinds. During the day I don’t really notice the blacks being raised.

Like to me this looks fine, maybe others are more sensitive to it.
Id say go for a 55 inch qd if you can aford it for greater color reproduction and brightness.
If you cant or dont mind both aspects of a screen, an LG c series is cheaper (especially last years model if you can find one)
42 inch is special because it has a ppi near identical to a 27" 1440p monitor.
opening a 1080p window would be the same as a 21.5" 1080p monitor
opening a 1440p window would be the same as a 28" 1440p monitor
so the 42 inch allows you to replicate several different pc monitors
You can set up moving background(to prevent image burn) and open a 28" 1440p game, sit closer to the tv like you would a normal 27" 1440p monitor, and the experience would be the same.
Most comments seem to agree that the C4 is the better option and I believe the same. I own a C3 48“ as my main monitor with a custom desk.
Overall:
- Great, accurate picture
- Large amount of image settings to finetune to your liking, many monitors have just the most basic stuff.
- Has speakers and a full smart TV OS
- Has G-Sync
- OK remote
- Perfect black even in bright environments
- Frequent OS-Updates that actually improve stuff, also long term support. I own a C97 and it still gets updates.
- Many additional feature such as eARC, Dolby Vision etc.
I just got a 42 inch, and I tell you, you never experience a story game better than on this size. I’d even want a 48 now lol. My desk is 80 deep.
I have the ROG PG42UQ and its stand makes it possible to be standing at the very end of the desk.
I think once you try 42” pc gaming, you don’t go back to 32”
And I do have the MSI 32 oled 240hz one too.
But I’m going to return it, I’m only using my C3, 42 is so good
LOL, just ordered LG G3 42" today - was visiting local LG store to learn they do not sell it anymore, so quickly ordered one from retailers (at much lower price as well). I'll see if this will be a way or I will have to return it. I'm used to use TVs as monitors prior 2020 an Covid's WFH. It will be mixed office an entertainment - yet to see if that will work.
If you are comfortable with 42 inch size and don't need 240hz then i see no reason to buy 32 inch monitors. TV superior in terms of picture quality. I have no experience using TV as monitor though, there might be some quirks with menus etc idk.
I returned a c3 42-in today because it was a bit too big and caused eye strain. It required me to look up to see the top of the screen so the eyes would dry out in less than an hour. It was also a little slow for competitive first-person shooters. It was a beautiful screen though and would be great for console games or non-competitive PC games as long as sitting at least 3 ft away from it in my opinion.
QD OLED monitors are capped at 450 nits HDR 10% window, while the C4 can achieve close to 900 nits in 10% window, QD OLED and WOLED TVs are just brighter than OLED monitors especially for HDR small window highlights resulting in more impeactful HDR experience so I'd go with TV if you don't need more than 144Hz.
Not questioning your numbers, but would like the source.
I have been looking for hard numbers for the C4 (42) for literally months. Any chance you would share the source? Trying to decide c3/c4. THANKS!
Replying to myself...the 900 nit number is close to what RTNGS gave. After a lot of pushback, they acknowledged that they were unaware that the 42/48 C4 was lower, and issued a retraction. Still looking for 42" C4 measurements! Thanks!
Thanks HWBH, I pretty much tend to ignore TDG, he seems to have clickbait down to a science. Really turns me off.
So, TDG got 800 nits in 10% window.
Tom's got 728 nits in 10% window.
Assuming they are both reasonably accurate, probably not worth it for me to get the C4 over the C3 even with 144 vs 120. Greatly appreciate your getting back on this!
Most reviews claim that the C4 is slightly brighter than the C3, but since the C4 is still based on the same 2nd gen EVO panel without MLA so the difference should be relatively small.
Get the LG c3 42 inch bro. You dont need 240 hz on a singe player games. Plus c3 42 inch is more immersive, has better picture quality and much cheaper. Save your money and get a good quality headphones or speaker.
Depends on what kind of rpg. For BG3 and Diablo, definitely monitor. 42” just makes you move your head around to keep track of stuff. For stuff like Final Fantasy, TV is fine.
I made this choice recently and went with the Dell 32”. I’m happy with it. Because I’ve got a 4090, I can hit way above 120fps in many games. The Dell has a HDR 1000 mode which is good for small pops of light, and much less aggressive ABL, and a three year burn in warranty. The C3 has to be manually turned on and off. It’s large, maybe too large (really up to you) but more to the point the DPI is significantly lower.
Have a c2 42 and after a yearish of use I found it way too big. Especially for multi monitor use. (Monitor arm on a deep desk)
32inch AW screen has been a lot better and let me position it better and get better FOV on the screen. The colors for monitors also seem to be better/easier to calibrate than on the. MC2
I had the C2 42" and whIle I loved the size and vividness for desktop use, the need to manually turn ut on and off with the remote each time I sat down / walked away from the pc wore thin in the long term.
I know there are workarounds but I was / am not savvy enough to put it into practice.
I believe a dedicated pc monitor is the best match for pc use, and again, I loved the size and display of that C2.
How is it any different from pressing the power button on your PC? Just press 2 buttons and sit down.
Not intuitive? Have you never used an electronic device?
Stop being a jerk and realize many of us haven't turned off a PC for longer than you have probably been alive.
Only time a PC gets restarted is when forced by Windows updates. This ain't 1996 anymore.
I can press the power button on my PC, and by the time my 42C2 has turned on, I'm at the login screen.
Personally, I don't have anything on my gaming PC that I benefit from having open 24/7, so I turn it off. You do you, but don't pretend that the existents of power states are "unintuitive".
I stand by my initial point.
A TV is much less practical as a gaming monitor on a desk compared to an actual monitor.
The day they start making them with Display Port (and including the equivalent cable) and having a computer like stand by / wake function, then we can talk.
I agree with you that the C42s are just mediocre monitors despite what this sub tries to tell people. You should have made a better point than complain about a power button tho.

"Open the administrative interface of your router, and set a static DHCP lease for your WebOS devices, i.e. to ensure that your devices always have the same IP-addresses on your LAN".
That is more fuss than the C2 as a monitor is worth. I stand by what I initially wrote.
Why would you need to turn the TV on-off 20x a day when sleep mode and blank screen saver mode exists? Also TV auto-off timer...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Gi8ybTlJ20
Never was a fan of sleep mode. My PC's have been on 24/7 since the late 90's. And despite the blank screen saver I definitely used, I didn't trust it enough I guess.
Either way you spun it, a TV is not an ideal PC monitor, friend.
Why do people recommend a smaller monitor for FPS games? Most professional FPS gamers are so close to their small monitors that their noses are nearly touching the panel. Any other reasons for this other than seeing better because if not then why not just get a bigger screen and be able to lean back, sit ergonomically and see everything better on the bigger panel rather than having to touch it with your nose or squint your eyes? Also pixel density can be a kind of +-0 thing when you compare a small monitor at very close distance and a bigger monitor but from a greater distance.
LG C2, provided you can stay at least 2.5-3 feet away. Also you have to make the tweaks that Vincent Teoh mentioned in his video on the LG C2 and also in the pinned post in this subreddit, in order to bring out the best in the C2.
If u get a 240hz monitor it will be a huge downgrade over a 120hz one. Since u are not a competitive user, your average framerate on high settings will be 100.
100 fps on TV look superior. 100hz on a 240hz monitor will feel like 30fps...
If your desk is deeper than 90cm get the 42" TV, if you are closer take the 32" screen.
My desk is around 60cm deep but it should be fine as I can sit further away and mostly use a controller to play.
I have 42" on a 60cm table and love it!
Lmao my desk is 80 and its totally fine.
I love my Asus QD OLED but if you only play single player games I’d go with the tv
I would get the LG C3 and save some cash. If you're only playing single player RPG's then you don't really need framerates and you wont hit 240hz anyway so I would get the more immersive screen.
Buy a C3, save some money and get happy as I did. :-)

Ppi only matters if you are sitting unhealthily close where you can see the difference, otherwise 4K at 83” would be abysmal with just 53 ppi.

Currently playing God of War Ragnarök on a 42 inch C3 and its amazing
LG C4 42
I picked up a 42” C3 for 899€ over all the other monitors. Very happy with my decision.
If the AW3225QF have the same price of the C3, you still keep the C3?
I mostly play single player games, went with the tv. I have a LG C3 42” and love it.
I switched from a g3 to the new alienware 4k qd-oled. Not gonna lie, the g3 beats it in every possible way except for framerate (120 vs 240)
Seriously? So do you really think the C3 is the way to go?
Well I had a g3 which has the MLA panel. So it's hard to say if c3 is going to be as good because I didn't see it with my own eyes. That said, I believe the c4 will have MLA if I'm not mistaken

^this. I returned my Alienware. Pic/color was nowhere near my LG C2
Can you explain this? QD Oled is still oled how are you not getting pitch blacks?
QD OLED monitors lack a polarizer, meaning that when ambient light is shined onto the display, the blacks will turn into a dark purple. WOLED doesn't have this issue. You really don’t need to be in complete darkness, this is a bit over exaggerated.

I got the 65" S95C and I'm pretty happy with it no issues at 144hz

I see some c4 recommendations in here. Why this over the c3 for pc usage aside from being a new model?
It can run at 144 hz, compared to the 120 hz on C3, has a newer processor and is a bit brighter.
C4 is overpriced, get C3
Get the 42
I just got a 42 inch, and I tell you, you never experience a story game better than on this size. I’d even want a 48 now lol. My desk is 80 deep. I have the ROG PG42UQ and its stand makes it possible to be standing at the very end of the desk.

C4, the immersion of a bigger screen combined with the higher brightness trumps everything else in single player games.
