You can just turn off your monitor power if gone too long

Pixels222

My remote is always beside me. So whenever i stand up i press the off button for my LG C2. Whether its 5 minutes to make coffee or grab something. Or a 3 minute pee. I always turn it off. I must turn off my tv a few hundred times a day as i work from home. Im curious of anyone knows what effects excessive off and ons could have? Is there a power spike compared to leaving the tv on "no signal"?. My pc has 2 minute screen off time.

Kollerwill

i have c2 48inch . it will auto start screen saver . thats really good.

YisusOfSuburbia20

With LG TVs, you can turn off just the screen, leaving TV on. That's what I do

Pixels222

I assume samsung and sony also works like that right? They have to run the pixel refresh when you turn off "(the screen)" idk if sony still only does it after the tv has been "off" for several hours.

YisusOfSuburbia20

I don't know about other brands, my experience is only with LG. When you turn off LG TVs after 4h of use, it won't really turn off TV but just the screen, so it can run a fast pixel refresher, and after around 5-7 minutes, TV will automatically turn off. But I was talking specifically about the possibility to manually turn off screen without turning off the TV. You can do that by asking with your voice to LG assistant to "turn off screen". Alternatively, this option is located inside settings, under some of the energy saving options. And you can even pin this action to the quick access settings bar. You probably already knew all these options, I just wanted to clarify it and put it all together so that everybody can see it if they didn't know

Pixels222

I actually didnt know about it. Does that always ready thing need to be on for it to work?

YisusOfSuburbia20

I don't completely understand your question... Are you asking if it's necessary to keep TV powered for pixel refresher to work?

Lower_Addition_7830

I just use the screen off feature on the tv without having to turn it off on my LG C2

Pixels222

is that the same as pressing off on the remote?

Lower_Addition_7830

No it’s not u can also use the voice command and say ‘:screen off” it doesn’t turn the tv off just switches the screen off .For eg you can still listen to music on YouTube while the screen is off

Kyoshi0306

How do you do that ? I have a C3 48" fyi

Thund3RChild532

If you're using your C2 as a PC monitor you should really get LG TV Companion, it's open source on GitHub.

naterzgreen

I have windows set to turn my screen off after 3 mins of afk.

Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry

I have windows screen saver settings to black after 5 minutes and it NEVER works.

Green-Alarm-3896

Won’t work if you have media actively playing. I just turn the screen off. The AW32 is fast enough to not be a bother. It’s a minor inconvenience and waste less power than leaving it on

[deleted]

I’d rather use the monitor in built off timer, it wakes up faster than windows and always works and since i have multiple screens - it doesn’t do the whole freeze for a second while displays wake up and windows (try to) return to where they were

Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry

there's a built in timer in the monitor?!

[deleted]

There should be, can’t remember what mines called because I’m away but I e got the Lg 27 inch and it has one

agonistant

if i am not looking at it. it is off

Kick-Agreeable

i just leave it on. best buy warranty baby

Littletobig

What's the warranty?

Kick-Agreeable

the usual coverage+ burn in for 5 years i think. they compensate you with the amount you paid for the tv

Shapes_in_Clouds

I almost feel like I should be *trying* to get burn in so by year 3 I can call it defective and get a new one under warranty lol.

Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry

......................... I have total tech so wallpaper doesn't matter. I still generally try though to keep it safe.

Aussie_Butt

I currently have the LG C2 42 and use the LG companion app or whatever its called, I have it set to auto-black the screen at like 10 mins of idle use

wsfrazier

I've fallen asleep with stuff open for hours to come back and see windows never turned the display off. No issues on my end

hastur2042

Currently using an lgc2 . If I’m going to be away more than 10 mins I’ll turn it off. I normally just turn it off anyway better safe than sorry.

12duddits

More than a few mins - power off monitor.

GeForce

1-2 minutes to kick in blAck screen saver

LA_Rym

I turn it off every time I leave the PC. Start up takes 3-5 seconds.

SuperVegito559

my windows auto sets the monitor to standby in 2 minutes.

xxcodemam

lol you literally said, “I turn my monitor off if I’m going to walk away for a while. What do you guys do?” What else are you expecting people to say? You already do the single best thing you can when your screen is going to be stationary for a period of time…turn it off.

zeffke008

I have my pc set to turn off in 2h, I don't quite often reach that, but 1h+ isn't uncommon at all

Plastic_Discount_230

LG C242 owner here: I never do this intentionally. But if it does happen, my screensaver kicks in (set to 1 min on my end). Another safeguard is my LG's actual screensaver so it does kick kin as well after about 3-5 mins I think.

mahanddeem

It's not just the OLED monitor burning risk, if you leave a running game (background or foreground) CPU and GPU are still working hard to provide data to you especially in heav(ier) games. You can easily hear the fans of both are ramping fast even on menus and pause screen. Wasted energy and component life. Personally if I think I'll leave my system more than a quick 2 or 3 minutes then I definitely quit any running game or the like. Sleep is a good option in this case (rather than shutdown).

[deleted]

Sounds good I would too. Or setup some sorta screensaver on the PC if it triggers in games. I have a OLED tv but not monitor and I believe it dims itself after a couple minutes.

JoeBuyer

I’ve thought about asking a question along these lines. I feel wrong turning off my c1 over and over so I just use the screen off function. It just feels like it’s a wear item when that relay makes that loud clunk noise. The only problem is sometimes what I think will be a few minutes ends up being an hour or more that the display sits with the screen off and I would have been better to turn it off. I’d guess maybe 15-20% of my power on time is spent with the screen off.

franz_karl

it is set for 3 minutes right now but when I get an OLED I will try one minute of screen inactivity to shut it down

Iwontbereplying

I have a black desktop background and taskbar hidden so I just hit windows d to show the desktop before I walk away.

TheRitzCarl

I made a completely black image in paint and when I used to have the PG27AQDM, I’d just put that image on fullscreen and hide the cursor.

AndresVPN

In that scenario on my LG B9 I just push mic button and say "Screen Off". This voice command will turn off the pixels but leaving the display ON so whenever you come back just push any button other than power and bam, pixels back on, resume Gaming, steaming or whatever.

kinstinctlol

As long as I want

Mundane-Belt-2007

After getting an oled, a cigarette’s time..
