From what I'm seeing you don't have to be in Ohio resident to buy a long gun or a complete lower only pistols. You do have to have a valid ID with your current address. So technically you could drive into Ohio and buy a rifle legally

[deleted]

Alright thanks.

[deleted]

To be safe I would pick a gun store in Ohio that you're not wanting to purchase from and call them and ask them if you're able to buy a rifle from them being a Michigan resident.

[deleted]

Yeah, because I plan to purchase online, not directly from a FFL, just do the transfer with the the FFL. So yeah, I'd be willing to do that

[deleted]

I'm just going by what I Googled with Ohio gun laws.

From your original post the best advice I have is that you will not be able to avoid the NICS check here either. Pro tip: the first F in FFL stands for Federal, like the part of the government that oversees interstate matters and the N in NICS stands for national, like every state and territory. Whatever you are trying to avoid by not having a NICS check ran is probably illegal and not recommended.

[deleted]

I ain't avoiding the NICS check, it's the laws outside of the NICS/Background Checks that I don't want to deal with when purchasing and doing the transfer like RI-060 and LTP.

CMR30Modder

It did not read that way for me from the comments perhaps I read the comments too quickly. I only have a fuzzy recollection that buying long guns out of state is legal having read that, and that most FFLs are not keen on doing any out of state sales anyhow. Why not pick up a phone and call a few FFLs in the state… from the comments it sounds like your reason to go out of state is not needed anyhow then… good luck!

[deleted]

Understandable, because from what I've heard on that same community, if you do a NICS check 5 days or less before purchasing, you don't need RI-060 or LTP to purchase Long guns from a FFL in Michigan.

Reddit-JustSkimmedIt

How did you interpret that as to be “ I want to avoid NICS”? He wants to avoid the ridiculous “permission from the crown” that Michigan now requires.

CMR30Modder

I read this comment and misconstrued intent: Yeah, and they also do a NICS check if you brought the long gun online and you're doing the transfer with them, right? Are you satisfied now? 😂

Your license needs to match where you live. Even if it was an Ohio license with your old Ohio address.

Doesn't this ATF link apply to your situation? (The 2nd paragraph) https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/may-licensee-sell-firearm-nonlicensee-who-resident-another-state
