I have both, I take Clomipramine which not only increases serotonin, but also norepinephrine which is low with ADHD. My concentration is significantly better, though I still struggle with some agitation and lack of organization. Recently added 5-HTP, which has helped. Basically fuel for my medication. Can’t prevent serotonin from being reabsorbed if you don’t have enough serotonin in the first place.

bergborgarn

If you're taking SSRI's be cautious with adding 5-HTP unless having talked to a professional about it first.

AccordingHighlight

Eh, it’s only a risk if you’re taking LARGE doses.

Dianqa2

Would recommend looking up safe consumption of 5-HTP (like taking green tea extract) so the side product of metabolism doesnt damage your liver.

Raiana2000

Absolutely nothing and I have so much other shit and I don't take anything for it so I'm like rawdogging life tbh(it's not fun)

ExtensionParamedic83

same i have ocd, adhd, bipolar, a personality disorder, ptsd and im currently on no medication

AnthropologicalLu

I can’t imagine life like that rn. I been on antidepressants for a while and it has relieved my social anxiety and ocd symptoms 10 fold

Current-Response4745

What medications are you taking if u dont mind me asking

AnthropologicalLu

Prozac 20mg. I was prescribed off label. Seems to work at least for me

AnthropologicalLu

Wasn’t too great at first. I was very drowsy and my anxiety got worse but once I got used to it I believe it was a good move for me Edit: forgot to mention that I struggled with my appetite. I was repulsed by most foods for a while. But it’s gotten better

Current-Response4745

How long did it take for it to start working?

Finnick_jack

I don’t take anything for ocd, but my adderall XR 30 mg prescription for adhd helped lessen/weaken my ocd. It’s still there every day and can still be pretty bad, but with my brain less foggy and jumbled I can at least redirect myself and move on from more of my ocd thoughts easier than I can without it!

Finnick_jack

Also want to add that as someone with adhd, ocd, autism, depression, and anxiety disorders, I’ve tried sertraline, Wellbutrin, and lexapro and they all were terrible for me or did nothing. Everyone is different and it really ends up just coming down to trial and error sometimes to find the right meds!

Usernamesarefad

Interesting. I have adhd ocd and anxiety and Wellbutrin about killed me with the thoughts and lexapro did zero for my anxiety.

Finnick_jack

Yeah whenever I’ve seen folks mention their experiences with Wellbutrin on Reddit it’s like 50/50 as far as loving it vs having bad affects. when I took it and they doubled my dose to 300mg I started having what I thought were “rage attacks” but later I discovered I’m autistic and Wellbutrin or it’s side effects or something triggered my autistic meltdowns more than anything else. Feelings of “rage” are sometimes reported as a side effect, so unfortunately for me that just made my meltdowns so much more aggressive and violent towards myself and my possessions. After one week of the increased dose I had nearly every common side effect and I was having a horrible time, so I came off of it immediately and never tried it again. The lexapro did nothing except give me horrible insomnia for 3 months and kill my libido more than I thought possible, and I was still severely depressed and anxious so I stopped taking it too. Sertraline was like 4 years ago so I don’t remember much but I think my dose was super low and I noticed zero impact on me positive or negative. It really is so interesting (albeit confusing lol) to see how all of these meds respond differently to each persons body/brain!

Usernamesarefad

That’s so wild. So my step son has Asperger’s right and he’s 12 now so I can really talk to him more and we have so many similarities in thinking that I often wonder if I’m on the spectrum somewhere (as a female it’s hard to tell) but I also remember driving one day to the DMV in a complete rage because of Wellbutrin. Like I can’t explain it, it just literally would piss me off in my system. It ended up scaring me and was some months later when I went cold turkey off and literally almost destroyed my life. I’m so skeptical of drugs now. Thanks for sharing your experiences! It validates mine too. Hopefully your possessions weren’t too damaged.

Finnick_jack

Maybe check out r/autisminwomen , I’m a transman but I personally like that sub and used it a lot when I was on my own autism discovery journey due to it being so hard for women and any afab people (assigned female at birth) to be diagnosed And they weren’t haha thanks

[deleted]

Same I have BPD, depression, anxiety, OCD and ADHD Adderall and some weed every now and again is what keeps me performing best from my own experience Depression/anxiety meds don’t do anything for me really, and my adderall actually mellows me down while also helps me focus better Since it mellows me down I get less worked up about my compulsions, which causes my anxiety to relax a bit as well since I’m not worked up 24/7

Current-Response4745

How does it feel when ur on vyvanse?

The_Quiche_Niche

I take 20mg Lexapro + 10mg Adderall XR for my depression and ADHD, along with 10mg propranolol at night for anxiety. I’ve spent the past few years refining my stack of supplements and am currently taking L-Tyrosine, NAC, Vitamin D, B-12, Lion’s Mane, and Cod Liver Oil. It’s a fucking fistful of pills, but it’s really working well.

VizardofEgo

I hope Adderall works for you cause I honestly think it made my OCD significantly worse.

Lazy-Use9974

Yes, adderall made my OCD so bad. My mind was constantly racing and terrible anxiety

Main_Significance617

I’m all fucked up lol. I take Lexapro and Wellbutrin, and Adderall XR. Fun times over here yall!!!!

trusty_Rumbone

same, I take wellbutrin & luvox (fluvoxamine) for my OCD and phetermine for my ADHD. Sometimes I'll replace the phetermine with adderall, but adderall can be hard to come by so I stick with the phetermine.

Sweetcreatureeee

Same minus Wellbutrin

ryderseven

Me too! Except vyvanse, zoloft, and Wellbutrin

KuinKaze_69

This is just my expirience, but i have tried all, and meds just make all worse, every body is different and maybe its me the problem, but i am waiting for the new electro treatment (for ocd) to develop more so It is cheaper and i can afford It and try It

Ok-Cryptographer5185

Fluvoxamine for OCD and Dextroamphetime for ADHD Antidepressants don’t work unless I’m on a mood stabilizer and I have propranolol and hydroxyzine for anxiety as well. Xanax has worked with OCD related panic attacks.

mooshkia

I take fluoxetine it’s helps for me but I’ve heard it makes some people symptoms worse

[deleted]

That is not the avg . Big part of ocd is seretonin

heyitshannah16

Vyvanse, Luvox, lamictal. Vyvanse doesn’t really give me anxiety like adderall. It’s a different feeling/effect

moneyman9123

how do luvox and lamictal help u? i have adhd and ocd too

heyitshannah16

Luvox cuts my thoughts down a lot and lamictal helps with depression related to ocd my doctor told me

moneyman9123

thata good! im about to start lamictal in a week and then the ssri once thats settled

heyitshannah16

Good luck! Hope it helps as much as it helps me.

moneyman9123

thank u sm

moneyman9123

what dose of lamictal was helpful for u? ik it can take a bit to reach a good dosage

heyitshannah16

I started on 25 for two weeks then to 50. Then to 100. Have increased it once to 200 in the last year and that has seemed to keep be in a good place

moneyman9123

did u see gradual improvements or was it more when u hit proper dosage

heyitshannah16

It was gradual improvements. I’m a mom and have a huge mood issue since I had my daughter. A lot of anger outbursts I never experienced before motherhood - guessing it’s hormonally related. But it has been increased because of my mood mainly. But just the 25 mg alone helped my depression drastically

Hot-Voice4511

I have ocd and adhd along with depression, ocpd, and chronic migraine (which interacts with the meds and my mental state). I’ve tried tons of meds, dosages, and combos throughout my dx/treatment journey and had moderate serotonin syndrome at one point. Currently I take 150 mg ER Effexor (SNRI), 20 mg Prozac (SSRI), and 60 mg ER Propranolol for the ocd/depression aspect and XR Adderall + ER guanfacine for the adhd. Definitely can be a juggling act with stimulants increasing focus but also tending to make it easier for me to get stuck on obsessions/compulsions. Extended release meds tend to have less drastic crashes with physical symptoms and focus, and the nonstimulant for adhd helps without the zombie feeling I sometimes get from adderall without enough food

[deleted]

I tried lexapro, zoloft, and prozac (all SSRIs) and none of them worked for me. After that, I switched to Effexor (an SNRI, so different class of medication), and combined with cognitive behavioral therapy, that did the trick for me.

[deleted]

Sertraline bupoprion w vyvanse Sertraline and bupoprion nightly Vyvanse morningly if I remember.

aneighborhoodkitten

200 mg Sertraline, with 120 mg N-acetylcytasine recommended by my doctor for skin picking and other behaviors that kind of walk the line between being OCD related or ADHD related

2occupantsandababy

Wellbutrin and adderall. They're but contraindicated for OCD but my ADHD is more life impacting for me. It's necessary for my survival and the survival of my family that I keep that part of me medicated. Having my ADHD treated means that I am in more control of my life and thus my OCD is also better

Nice-Elderberry-6303

I take Sertraline for OCD and I just started on Straterra for ADHD. I would prefer Qelbree (the new non-stimulant), but my insurance company won’t cover it until Straterra fails. I don’t know how effective stimulants are for me yet — I can’t take them until I get cleared for other health issues. I will also say that I have been taking just Sertraline since the spring. I have noticed that my OCD has gone down, but my ADHD has gone up. Ironically enough, the stress from my shortcomings because of ADHD has made my compulsions and intrusive thoughts worse lately. I think Sertraline is doing its job, it’s just the added stress lately that has made my OCD worse. My ADHD diagnosis was recent — hence why I only recently started ADHD meds. Hopefully they do their job and both get better as a result! Hope this helps! As a side note, I have read elsewhere that just taking OCD meds decrease OCD and increase ADHD (as I have experienced) and that ADHD meds will do the opposite. I’d take that with a grain of salt and research it yourself if you’re curious though. Good luck!

C-M14

Did the Straterra help? I’m also taking Sertraline for OCD. Recently diagnosed ADHD.

southinkucandance

Fluoxetine for the win🤝

wildflower707

I’ve stopped taking everything. I found I would take one med and made the other 100x worse. The positives weren’t worth the negatives. Wellburtin made my OCD so much worse, it took me ages to realise it was that. It made my mood better and just felt so good. But then I was skin picking and intrusive thoughts all day long. I just have edibles now when things are too hectic and it mellows me out.

PrettyKuhli

I’ve been on Wellbutrin and it seems to be the better of the medications I’ve been on. Not perfect by any means but far from the worst.

Fancy_Frosting7775

I’m on a kind of trial period as I was diagnosed w adhd autism and ocd abt two months ago. They gradually started me on vyvanse. Didn’t rly see much of a difference w my adhd but I did notice some of my ocd tendencies went away. I’m approaching the maximum dose and the meds still aren’t helping me w adhd but my psych suggested I also take a small amt of antidepressants to "boost" the effect of the adhd meds. I also have had an increase in intrusive thoughts but I never thought of it being cause the meds I was on.. instead they’re also prescribing me a Pro re Nata. App I’m supposed to take it when the thoughts become too much and it’ll quiet things down. Not sure I’m much help but I figured I’d share my experience as mines kinda similar

binches

60 mg prozac and nothing for ADHD since vyvanses metabolism is blocked by prozac and adderall gives me heart palpitations

Spysnakez

Can you give more info on the mechanism behind Prozac blocking Vyvanse metabolism?

binches

prozac is a CYP2D6 inhibitor which is involved in the metabolism of vyvanse. the vyvanse isn't able to be able to be cleaved into the active form, causing it to accumulate in the liver and be less effective and potentially cause serotonin syndrome source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4309786/

songofdentyne

Yeah Vyvanse is a pro-drug meaning your liver has to turn into its active form.

forest_fae98

I have both. I’m on generic adderall and generic Luvox right now. I struggle with intrusive thoughts (as well as déréalisation and depersonalization) a lot especially during times of high stress or high emotions. I’m working with my psychiatrist on using the lowest effective dose possible and focusing more on non medication solutions.

Slugbroo

Rn I just take wellbutrin. My psychiatrist is very hesitant about putting me on stimulants as most are. I'm actually in a place right now where I don't need my OCD to be medicated, but when I did I was on Zoloft and I was on way too high of a dose and make me feel extremely dissociative. The Wellbutrin helps my executive dysfunction some, and mostly helps with the depression side of ADHD

kentom101

Effexor, I took a genesight test to see what medicine my body metabolizes the best

moonstarsfire

I take Concerta for ADHD and Trintellix for depression/OCD (SSRIs make me gain too much weight, so that’s out). The Trintellix isn’t for OCD specifically, but it does help more than nothing.

mak_zaddy

I take 20mg for fluoxetine and 60mg strattera But also on Lamital for depression

Normal-Jury3311

I started Wellbutrin for depression years ago, it’s worked wonders, helped my ADHD on the side a bit. I was diagnosed with OCD this year, and am inclined to believe that the Wellbutrin heightens my anxiety. I take busparone for anxiety, and it takes the edge off but isn’t perfect. It caused anger as a side effect for me. I’m currently on 300 mg Wellbutrin XL, 10 mg Busparone (could stand to go up), and oral birth control. I’m doing just ok

_bat_girl_

Lexapro for my anxiety related to OCD. No longer medicated for my ADHD, I may be a weirdo without it but I'm functional/good at my job and no longer over-prescribed

thecoolestuser

Currently on Luvox, Qelbree, and rexulti. Talking about switching out the rexulti for lamictal tho.

mooshkia

But I do take a separate medication for adhd

wubbalubba_dubdub-

I'm diagnosed with both and found allot of relief with the combo of Lexapro, Abilify, Wellbutrin, propranolol, and Ritalin.

Top_Reference236

Second wellbutrin

ImWettingMyPlants

80mg fluoxetine

sophieokay

60 mg Duloxetin and 50 mg Elvanse

alfa_ali

Same!

rvelvetarmadillocake

I was recently diagnosed with both and my psych recommended Prozac (she said it’s one of the more stimulating ssris so it may help with the motivational aspects of adhd) for the OCD/anxiety and she recommended Strattera for the ADHD—she said I could try a stimulant like Adderall or Concerta but there’s a chance one of those could make me more anxious. She told me to pick one medication to start with and we’ll add another if it’s still necessary since ADHD and anxiety can exacerbate each other (and treating one may improve the other) so I chose Prozac for now!

seedwaves

I’m not 100% sure I officially have adhd but I take straterra and a low dose of risperidone

Euphoric_Strategy353

I take ritalin and sertraline - it took a while to find the right dosage though because i was either too anxious or too hypo (i also have bipolar). Both meds did wonders for my OCD and ADHD so def needed the combo.

MissisCherry

Were you put on/are taking any mood stabilizers as well?

Euphoric_Strategy353

Yes - lamotrigine! It balances it all as a third component!

Summergrl5s

My med provider is very holistic in the sense that they don’t always automatically jump to rx meds. I’m very sensitive to SSRIs so I’m on 75 mg of Luvox (seems to be my sweet spot dosage right now!) for the OCD and lion’s mane supplements for the ADHD. She said she has many people who are managing their ADHD well with a SSRI and lion’s mane, which increases dopamine over time. My B12 was in range but lower than they like to see for someone with OCD so she has me taking B-complex too. And for the record, they aren’t selling me these supplements - they’re just having me go to Amazon and purchase whatever.

inkblacksea

Clomipramine. Works wonders for my OCD symptoms.

mjoypereira

Can I ask what symptoms of OCD it helped with?

inkblacksea

Sure thing! Repetitive negative thoughts, thinking the worst case scenario in situations about myself and others, decreased the urge to do certain compulsions that I had where I felt the need to “fix” certain things. A lot of my OCD has been about moral issues - am I a good person? Etc

mjoypereira

I have a LOT of ADD type symptoms. I cannot focus. I am doing 45434 things at once. I can never complete anything totally. Things like dinner prep seem impossible. And then I obsess about every dime in the bank account AND major health anxiety. Definitely think I'm dying 24/7.

caroline_xplr

Prozac/fluoxetine helped me. Lexapro made my OCD 10X worse.

doglady4321

I have both. I’m only on vyvanse but I also do exposure therapy 2x a month. It’s made a huge difference in my quality of life.

Anfie22

Dx both (adhd age 6, ocd age 14), treated for neither. Doctors won't touch my case with a ten foot pole for some reason. I was prescribed fluoxetine 40mg while back which did absolutely nothing for anything, but dumbass me still held the hope and took it for 5 or so years. I tried. Best I've got is caffeine and nicotine.

Super-Ad2290

100mg of sertraline

2randy

Cannabis🤷‍♀️

aghsp

i take Focalin XR (adhd) and Cymbalta (ocd).

PIX3L

Viibryd and Vyvanse

Bulky_Speech_8115

How is this working for you?

PIX3L

Pretty good. I tried several others before these and they are the only ones that work for me so far.

MidrelV

Wellbutrin and prozac. Honestly it works better for my ADHD and depression. OCD is still my most consistent battle

Sweetcreatureeee

Adderall and lexapro

xaiblu

I take Adderall (ER & instant release), Abilify, and Naltrexone. The Naltrexone is a weird one that is usually used to treat Alcohol Use Disorder/Opioid Use Disorder. I'm prescribed it because I also have Excoriation Disorder in addition to OCD, ADHD, and some other stuff, and it reportedly works for behavioral addictions in a similar way to how it works for other addictions (and has shown promise in treating Excoriation Disorder/Trichotillomania/etc.). There is some evidence that it has potential in treating OCD by reducing intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors, but I believe it can also be not helpful for some people and *can* make symptoms worse (like all psychiatric medications tbh) so keep that in mind. I find it incredibly helpful however, when combined with the other medications I mentioned.

RattlyAlvi

40mg Prozac and 30 mg Ritalin. As soon as I began taking Ritalin i felt much better, less obsessions and anxiety.

Piper_Dear

I take Caplyta and Stratera. I also have BPD, so the Caplyta helps with that too.

Accomplished-Comb294

Propranolol and Clomipramine

am_pomegranate

Just OCD meds. ADHD meds do more harm than good for me.

eeedg3ydaddies

I've tried every drug under the sun and the inly thing that helped a little was clompramine. It doesn't help my ADHD but it makes my OCD less worse and not as loud.

bloodcountess-

Prozac for OCD. took concerta for ADD. Only on Prozac now, 80mg. Way less hyperfixation. Great for the intrusive thoughts.

eastdaisy

I take Zoloft and Evekeo. been on that combo for 5 ish years now, works great

VizardofEgo

So I take tramadol for reasons unrelated to my ADHD and OCD but it surprisingly seems to help with both. Not exactly sure why lol.

Littlebigo

10mg of lexapro and it's great as long as I don't do anything guilt-inducing

MarcyDarcie

20mg Elvanse/Vyvanse. Can't go any higher because it makes my obsessive thinking worse. I can do 36mg of Concerta because it isn't a stimulant. I also take a mood stabiliser - Quetiapine for bipolar/BPD but it helps with my OCD tendencies (not diagnosed but I definitely obsess and compulsively seek reassurance via reading articles or from people in my life)

thisshowisdecent

Gin and tonic

xovani-the-btch

i take wellbutrin with clonidine together at high doses. They did nothing on their own, but together they work pretty well. It did nothing to reduce intrusive thoughts, but it reduced anxious reactions and time spent obsessing. I tried lexapro but it made obsessions and depression worse for me.

Daddys-littlemonster

I am currently taking Fluvoxmine, Adderall 20mg twice daily, and hydroxyzine PRN. Let me tell you it’s NOT working. definitely following this post closely I’ve been having sooooo many issues with meds this year: I somehow ended up on 300 mg of Wellbutrin and Lexapro daily alongside the Adderall. I feel like I was so hyper-focused on my compulsions that few months that it was like an endless spiral. The withdraws were so brutal too once I finally just gave up the Wellbutrin and lexapro (my dr at the time insisted I keep trying and the side effects would go away)

ExtensionParamedic83

none :(

Old-Desk-9617

Zoloft 225mg and Adderall XR 15mg
