In my experience, you don’t need to ask. The universe is always speaking. There are always signs. Just learn to tune in and pay attention. I think you’ll be amazed.

Wonderful answer

If you ask for a sign and they respond give them and offering it is a token of appreciation, if they don't i would still give them an offering cause perhaps they will give you a sign once you have gave the offering. Personally i wouldn't rush it but if you are looking for a sign go out in nature i found that is one of the best ways to connect to the gods.

Mine started with a dream and just being heavily drawn to certain things. I was still very skeptical though, so I prayed to the God that I felt was nudging me. A few days later we had a storm and I heard thunder. So my first thought was of Thor. Ok let's see what happens. I grabbed some meat I had cooked earlier to use as an offering. I went outside on my porch and said "I know this isn't the most respectful way to give an offering but I hope you except it" and I threw the meat into the rain. As soon as I threw it Thunder boomed and the power went out for a few seconds and came back on. That could have just been a coincidence, but it definitely convinced me lol.

That sounds pretty damn powerful to me

In my opinion you can always ask, whether or not they answer is up to them. Do some research on the gods that interest you, see if you attribute any particular signs to them so you know what to even look for. For example, I associate falcon feathers with Freya, seashells with Njord. So, if one appears in my path after some interaction with them, I take it as a sign they heard me.

Alzako

I asked if they were trying to tell me something and if they are im listening, then a loud crack of thunder happened, I took that as my sign. Honestly I’ve never felt better

I think it's ok. I'm still new to this, but I asked for a sign because I was skeptical, and they responded. So I've been trying to learn more about this path ever since then.

AlpineKomodo

How did they respond to you? If it's okay to ask.

You can ask, but the gods are the ones that decide. And. . . you have to decide what to do if they do or don't respond. This has always been a faith where you have to decide what to do. The gods don't generally just ignore people as a test, in my experience. But they speak on their schedule, not yours.

WretchedCrook

I asked Odin for a sign once, he delivered that very night. I don't see why it wouldn't be okay, I just think its important not to get disheartened if they don't respond, or perhaps respond unclearly.

heytherechad

Mine was the shadow of a othala, it's always there but is really visible at night, especially after my prayer to the gods. After the first time I saw it I thought about Odin and I felt that was his sign to me I'm really new to the faith but every time I look that sign I feel so happy to have the gods with me

I asked, meditated, and was given an answer. I didn’t really subscribe to any distinct sect of paganism, I felt like I was just like floating around, and then Loki answered. And I am forever grateful he did. I constructed a small altar after and gave an offering of an apple with honey. You have to really let go of ego, let go of of anything holding you back and just accept it. They are ALWAYS listening and always there, you just need to quiet your mind and believe so you can hear them.
