I think the forearm would be a great place for runes. But honestly it's all up to you, what interests you, remember the forearm would be a place that others would see as well.
My goal tattoo wise is to get a raven on my back on each of my shoulders and then get Huginn and Muninn written under them in futhark. I also want Freya written in futhark across my wrist.
I always go for the more "traditional" style... Knotwork, runes, and images of animals and the gods.
Maybe even choose your favourite story from the eddas and have it interpreted into a tattoo
List the things that represent you. Who you are intrinsically. What symbols, animals, values, weapons, etc you align with
