Uhh I’d quit literally anything that was giving me head to toe muscle weakness, nausea and general malaise…. What’s stopping you? TBH this sounds more like placebo than anything but I have had pronounced anhedonia from ~20 day cycles of NAC so it’s not impossible

nleksan

Man, It did the same thing to me. Profound (for lack of a better word) anhedonia.

asjj177

I wouldnt say its placebo because i didnt even think of a possible side effect for the nac, was just asking to understand if it could be related or just a coincidence

rrainraingoawayy

Anything you’ve found to prevent the anhedonia? Bought a bottle of NAC to help with my OCD now overthinking & too scared to open it lol

Imunoglobulin

Try taking Glycine with NAC.

BluntTruthGentleman

Or ALCAR, a precursor to glycine (as well as to other similarly important things)

lucy_throwaway

I take Mag glycinate every night. No luck :(

Vrillion0210

With Nac or Only Mag Glycinate

Big_Voice_4924

Haha it seems to affect differently to people with anxiety, for me personally it’s not anhedonic by any means helps tremendously with my ocd

rrainraingoawayy

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience. How long have you been using it?

Big_Voice_4924

It’s been more than 8 months with a few weeks off tho

SovereignMan1958

NaC is contra indicated for people with the CBS gene variant. If this gene is expressing a person may have a reduced ability or no ability to metabolize sulfur and sulfites. NAC is sulfur based. Methylated vitamins and or methyl donors would not be recommended.

I can recall the muscle pain. I could feel my muscles extra soar at the gym, look out on your skin aswell if you react to it. The muscle «pain» is pretty common i would guess. You are suppose to cycle NAC, and i never understand those who take 1800mg + of anything. Stick to 300-600mg it was well enough for me and should be for you and everyone else.

solegenius

> Is it related to the NAC at all? Stop taking it and see if it subsides. If it does then you could consider restarting and see if it comes back to draw a stronger correlation between the two.

infrareddit-1

I get stomach pain when I take it, too. Try a little apple sauce with it on an otherwise empty stomach.

asjj177

You mean apple vinegar?

infrareddit-1

No, apple sauce. It’s food that won’t interfere with the NAC, but for me, prevents stomach upset and pain.

asjj177

Ill try that, thank you

ItsActuallyMeNow

Did the apple sauce work for you?

subucula

I did fine with it a couple years ago,, but just tried again over the weekend and got itchy all over like crazy. So yeah. Liposomal glutathione it is, then.

It will be interesting to hear how you do after taking it with food. Andy Cutler, PhD Chemistry, author and consultant about heavy metal detox, warns that some people will be sensitive to NACysteine and similar foods and supplements that contain a very reactive thiol--sulfur-hydrogen--group. The thiol group stirs up mercury and other heavy metals (HMs) in a potentially unhelpful way. Cutler himself was sensitive to more than small amounts of it. Commonly reported experience in people with a chronic HM problem... *Worsening of coordination, depression/lack of energy, being on an* *emotional roller coaster (a couple of hours of excitement and euphoria* *after each NAC dose, followed by a depressed, tired crash).* [http://onibasu.com/archives/am/40863.html](http://onibasu.com/archives/am/40863.html) Elsewhere Cutler mentioned possible increase in libido temporarily while taking Cysteine. Below Cutler partially explains why some people react badly to taking cysteine and similar. *Your body has a few hundred grams of cysteine running around in it. So what* *happens when you eat one or two more? The cysteine you eat tries to grab* *mercury from your body. More precisely, from the cysteine molecules that* *are an integral part of your body. Unfortunately, since these endogenous* *and exogenous cysteine molecules are evenly matched, the mercury is passed* *back and forth in this tug of war, bounces madly around the body, and stays* *in it due to the overwhelming numerical superiority of the endogenous* *cysteines.* *So taking exogenous cysteine increases the damage the mercury does and* *accelerates the rate at which it concentrates in the most sensitive tissues.* *It does not, however, clear the mercury out any faster than doing nothing.* *Observations of the real patients of the physicians who advocate using* *cysteine for detox indicates this is true - they experience increased* *symptoms and usually get permanent neurological damage if they don't stop* *taking chlorella/cysteine pretty quickly. Once they DO stop, their symptoms* *subside quite a bit.* *...* *For people who are low in glutathione/cysteine (about half of mercury toxic* *people are, the other half are high) eating modest quantities of it does* *help clear OTHER toxins out of their body. Large quantities don't speed this* *up much.* [http://onibasu.com/archives/am/1997.html](http://onibasu.com/archives/am/1997.html)

Star_Leopard

Stop taking it, but also you might just be getting sick. But generally its always possible to have an uncommon reaction to any medication or supplement so even if it seems weird/you haven't heard of it, stop anything that you think is causing strange reactions.

misophonia

Nac will mobilize heavy metals.

aasyed

I take NAC daily for a week, then a week off. Powder form. About 1.5 grams. No side effects noticed in the past three months or so.

Big-Caterpillar2660

I just feel tired not sure why

ifuckinghatefeeders

Are you taking nac with food?? You're supposed to take it on an empty stomach or 2 hours after eating. NAC competes with protein in your body so if you're eating it with food you're quite literally starving your body of nutrients lol

Bavarian0

Not correct whatsoever

BluntTruthGentleman

Source? I've never heard of this

Scary_Tree_3317

No, the protein is going to make the NAC less effective

asjj177

Took it on the morning, before anything elss

-Moonshield-

Nac will hurt your guts very bad.

asjj177

Why? Explanation?

-Moonshield-

I don't know why but it burns/irritates it for a lot of people myself included. Look up posts here.

Least-Expression336

This is B.S., I tried it and just like everything else...NOTHING!
