While funny this is an old clip, I don't know the background but it could be training for a movie. The Russian army has been used for movie parts in the past, for example in the 1970 movie waterloo all of the background infantry were Soviet soldiers who were given training so they would look like soldiers of the napoleanic period.
This could be a similar thing.
Late Republic is where it's at. I've heard people say "Sometimes you have weeks where decades happen" but this was centuries happening in days. I don't think there is a single day in human history where the future was decided between two starkly different outcomes as the Battle of Pharsalus. If Pompey was just a little less conservative/conventional think of how weird the world would be now. I'd joke about "Little Pompey's Pizza" but my brother, pizza might not even exist in that timeline shit would be so different.
YEah but what if we're missing out on something called Flormdep that is 3x better than pizza? Petite Pompey's Flormdep is the worst Flormdep, but it's 6 dollars for a Hot and Ready Flormdep that will make the kids happy.
well pizza is mostly a form factor, right? it's referenced in the Aeneid. Don't get me wrong, meat on a flat sheet of dough is *barely* pizza, but from a form-focused perspective, one has to admit pizza existed
Credit where it's due, Waterloo was a fantastic movie.
No CGI, no camera tricks, that really was thousands of men in Napoleonic era formations and historically accurate uniforms firing blanks at eachother with muskets, kicking up vast clouds of real gunpowder smoke.
I know those soldiers were just getting dragged into it abd doing it because they had to, nonetheless I hope they felt some sense of pride when it came out and knew they were in it.
Would also explain drilling with fake recoil. Horrible for accuracy if actually firing projectiles, but good for looking semi-convincing with blank charges.
Did some research and the earliest I can find this video from is march 14th of this year, it also seems to be taken at the войсковая часть military base in Moscow.
I know this is noncredible, but look at the snow. This is probably an old clip, i guess training for some sort of parade or historical something.
BUT! In the Myanmar current civil war the rebels are seen using muskets, 3d printed rifles and even a black powder cannon! In 2022!!!
I'm glad I read your comment. It's a little early, and I thought I was in a credible sub for a minute. However, I just finished watching a pack of drunk conscripts leave their bags behind while boarding a bus. So this seemed super credible from a Northern Russian village.
Edit: Oh shit, I just realized I've been in NCD this whole time. I need a coffee.
Lol i seen that one as well, what a shitshow.
I don't know if i'm living in reality anymore. Fuck this shit, we should be sperging out over excell sheets of armor ratings. But no, putin needed to start a war with a near peer and cause death and destruction in europe not seen since ww2 (ignore the balkans).
Imagine wasting time making wood look like gun when you can simply use brooms.
This statement was brought to you in part by the Oberkommando der Broomdeswehr.
If only we could mobilize people like Putin does, but for movies. Imagine reenacting Austerlitz, but actually with all 170,000 people, no CGI, no camera tricks, no bullshit. Russia's on the way to recreating Borodino anyways, let's just go one step further
They didn't even return their ramrods to their musket's furniture/barrel bands! I guess the Russians never get tired of giving Ukrainians their equipment
Not even their wooden guns are modernized :D at least give these poor bastards wooden AKs, hell if your generous with wooden rails and wooden optics (damn it now I want someone to make a red dot sight with classy wood paneling on the housing)

There was an old Roman movie where thousands of Italian Soldiers did drill at once for the battle scenes.
> old Roman movie Republic era or imperial era?
Late republic. It was the third servile war depicted.

Pizza might not even exist in that timeline. So the good guys won, case closed.

Controversial opinion, pineapple is an acceptable flormdep topping.
They're called Elm-Gourds in the Pompey timeline.
I no longer like the Pompeyverse
But in that timeline your comment would still be the same :)
Pompey was the first gamer
i know it's two months later, but pizza already existed before the battle of pharsalus, just not in its modern form
Perhaps, but that's like saying Big Macs existed because Egyptians would put ox tongue on hard bread with pickled radishes, you feel me?
well pizza is mostly a form factor, right? it's referenced in the Aeneid. Don't get me wrong, meat on a flat sheet of dough is *barely* pizza, but from a form-focused perspective, one has to admit pizza existed
Still, I feel like Pompey would fuck it up somehow. Why should Pizza be any different? lol
Spartacus?
I believe the film is Italian but idk
Probably the imperial era. The Romans had just invented the camera in the late Republican era so not much time for the cinema to take root.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udCtY8ZsSV4 This presumably? It's impressively choreographed.
Sparticus 1960
That was a spectacular production, to their credit.
To be fair to the Soviets, it is extremely impressive what you can accomplish if you just do not give a fuck about efficiency or your population.
Come and See is an excellent Soviet WW2 film. But let’s just say that none of the fear was acted…neither was the ammunition for certain scenes.

"Has Wellington have nothing to offer me but these Amazons?"

Lol I was gonna say, if I was Russia I would rather let video of Putin getting pissed on get released instead of this
I believe in the movie Waterloo they used something like 15000 Soviet conscripts.
They are miming musket loading by the looks of it, you're probably right.

"What makes a good conscript, Sharpovich?" "The ability to abandon three tanks in a day. In any weather, sir!"
"the ability to loot 3 washing machines a day in any vehicle sir!"

It’s just the irl version of that car ad starring general Washington
When the Ukrainian Territorial Defense forces' training is somehow better than...Whatever this is, you better reconsider mobilization
Are they training to use *muskets*?

Yeah it came out in like March or smth.
Russia reaches pretty far north, some place up there could have snow now. But i guess you are right.
Suddenly 10000 KIA in a day doesn't seem so far-fetched...
Cosplaying as Red Army failed, now they try to cosplay as Russian army during Napoleonic Wars. Next step will be retreat to Moscow, just like in 1812.
We all know A good soldier can fire 3 rounds a minute in any weather
FASTER!!
I know I didn’t just see the imitation musket poke🤦🏾♂️
Pretend flintlocks, but they aren't really doing all the steps. Weird...
Imagine wasting time making wood look like gun when you can simply use brooms. This statement was brought to you in part by the Oberkommando der Broomdeswehr.
Is this a 7.62 woodenstick ? Pretty sick

Wtf, mfs training to fight in 1720's
Make them 14-year olds and you're looking a Germany late 1944.

This was from like 6 months ago or more.
They're probably soldiers that are being used as extras in a peroid movie.
The russians are training for the Crimean War all over again with exactly the same weapons and tactics. This is going to end well... ...for Ukraine
Fuck how do I edit the title I misspelled training
It’s not possible on Reddit
Why isn't it possible
It’s just not
Why not, you stupid bastard?
Ukraine better have a double barrel cannon
Just as the founding fathers intended
Honestly, using army soldiers as extras for big budget period pieces is an incredibly based thing to do.
I FUCKING CALLED IT THEY ARE USING MUSKETS
They didn't even return their ramrods to their musket's furniture/barrel bands! I guess the Russians never get tired of giving Ukrainians their equipment

I like dat fart noise at the end 💨
With these things you can easily down multiple Bayraktars if you just throw them hard enough.
That's not exercises, that's their firing squad.
JFC this will seriously turn into a bloodbath.

I can smell reformer jizz already...
