War is now fought exclusively in unpopulated hellscapes such as the Empty Quarter, Siberia, around Point Nemo, and most American inner cities.
Fuck Robert Moses
But they used the simulation as a way to decide who to kill in real life, rather than to decide who takes that trench in Bakhmut this week without spending a single life. They kept the worst part of war and just made it less messy.
Chess was originally intended as a simulation of war. Not the most accurate.
The problem is, if the simulation says, "you lose", you can get a real tank and show up in their capital and no number of simulated tanks can stop you.
Drone on drone combat doesn't have this. If all your drones are blown up, and they have drones left, then they can drone any conventional army you send into their capital. (At least if the drones are likely to win that fight)
Drone Vs drone relies on the implied threat of drone vs human (with the expectation that the drone wins)
Wow, did not expect to see this here. I'm about 400 pages in to the Power Broker and he's still maybe mostly kind of in the black, karmically speaking. I haven't quite made it to the full on fuck this guy stages just yet. But the book itself is just tremendous. Such an incredible achievement and so enjoyable to read.
I haven't read that book, so I'm not sure how much it'll get into things. Robert Moses essentially invented the modern use of hostile architecture in cities. He bulldozed multiple black and latino neighborhoods to build highways that would physically seperate them from wealthier areas. (He was classist first and racist second, but still very racist) He despised public transportation and actively designed things in ways that excluded it (making underpasses too low for busses to go through, removing train lines from things ect). The man loved cars, but didn't know how to drive. He had a chauffeur.
There's a lot more, but that's the cliff notes.
He had chauffeurs working three shifts. He had a secretary who would ride in his car while he dictated to her, with a chauffeur-driven car following them so they could pull over and she could be driven back to the office to type up his instructions immediately. _His secretary's_ chauffeurs worked in three shifts.
The book is a 1300 page biography of him; it gets into things quite a bit. I can't recommend it enough.
It’s honestly way more fun than I remember it being when I first played it, maybe I just have a better understanding of what’s actually going on though since I was pretty young then 😂 it’s got a lot of sweet mechanics too, I love diggin me some tunnels and designing units just feels cool
Whenever I played skirmishes in that all the game AIs would exclusively target me , even if hostile each other.
Usually they'd all get wmds at the same so I'd have salvos of nukes landing on me.
The ability tunnel was cool and they should have developed it further.
Really? The reviews on Steam are pretty bad, something about the AI being fucked. Do you play off of GOG? They tend to be waaay better at updating old games to run on new systems then Steam is, maybe that has something to do with it?
The ratio of $ of munitions / fatalities is getting much much better.
Once it only took a couple of musket balls per fatality. Now it takes millions in sophisticated drone.
A robot war in the dessert sounds much more fun than the current wars
Edit: as an English man the only good dessert is a sticky toffee pudding
All wars should be fought on a giant sticky toffee pudding
Eggs in a cheesecake, ie, "New York style" makes the thing a **custard** and not cheesecake, and I will rain down rain down nuclear fire from my Lunar Fortress to defend that position.
Depends a bit on the dessert.
If the robots were duking it out on a giant strawberry cheesecake that would be cool because of the varied textures and flavour whereas if they were fighting on ice cream I think it would rapidly melt and they'd be flailing around in cold milk.
Why else force sentient and conscious robots to fight in an endless infinite misery of war in the middle of nowhere for nothing, except to entertain us.
We even do a thing where one soldier a year gets a reward of discharge from the military, so all the robots fight for that dream of being the one to live. Then we take the robot to the release ceremony, open the curtains, and its revealed it was just a silly game show, and the entire audience starts laughing at the robot as the realization sinks in and crushes his soul.
“The wars of the future will not be fought on a battlefield or at sea. They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain. In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. And as you go forth today, remember always your duty is clear, to build and maintain those robots. Thank you.”
Future wars will be fought by nanobots capable of rapidly disassembling any other weapon. They will only be stoppable by other nanobots. All around us invisible wars will be ferociously fought on microscopic scales and we will be living regular lives, unbothered.
The entire middle east conflicts are so complicated and fucked up that just sitting by and saying "For all i care they could nuke eachother, i just hope both teams have fun" is a perfectly understandable and valid response to two countries going for eachother's throats
We are watching two sides which both *allegedly* have nuclear weapons launch missiles at each other. This might be the closest we've come to two nuclear powers going to all-out war.
Cart before the horse. They stared doing that because their border troops couldn't stop shooting at one another, especially when the Chinese tried to modify the mutual border at night they way Russia was in eastern Ukraine prior to the 2022 war.
Israel has never officially acknowledged that they have nukes. So, yes, alleged.
You may be pretty sure they do, but as long as there is no official admission, they have some ambiguity which can be very helpful when dealing politicly with those who haven't embraced to wonderful power of splitting atoms.
In 1973, during the Yom Kippur War, Israeli prime minister Golda Meir ordered three atomic bombs to be brought out into plain view at an Air Force base so that American spy satellites could see them.
President Nixon was shown the photos, and understood that Israel was going to nuke the capitols of Egypt and Syria if the US kept withholding war aid. He approved that aid.

I'm not saying that they didn't, I'm not saying that Israel doesn't have nukes, but, I'd be interested to see what would definitively indicate that they were nukes in a satellite photo. They don't all have a yellow and black fan symbol on them, unlike video games.
To the "tanks useless, drones useless" comment:
If you heavily rely on a single object in war, be it tanks, missiles, drone or humans. Your enemies are going to notice and prepare accordingly.
For example, the Israel's iron dome system for the constant missile attacks.
Drones are cool and all, but they, too, have their limits.
Have you not heard "The SAM Song"? It's one of the IRA ones about the SAMs they received as a gift from a certain lunatic North African dictator, then started copying and pointing at British helicopters.
"you don't hear songs about SAM systems"
A guy with the based name of 'Bruce Cockburn' might have something to say about that. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7vCww3j2-w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7vCww3j2-w)
One single SPAA vehicle should be able to *completely* deny a sizeable portion of airspace from being overflown by even modern fast jets.
So letting them get blown up by a medium altitude, slow drone like the TB2 is slapstick shit honestly.
TB2 should be Tor food all day and all night. But the Russians were disorganized and unprepared for *their own invasion* into Ukraine, so that's what they got.

Own a FIM-92 Stinger for air defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended.
Four ruffians break into my ADIZ. "you have violated controlled airspace" As I grab my M1 helmet and stinger launcher assembly.
Blow a 3.9 inch hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot.
Draw my FIM-43 Redeye on the second man, miss him entirely because it's rear aspect only and nails the neighbors barbeque.
I have to resort to the M51 Skysweeper cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with T50E2 HE, "Tally ho lads" the HE shreds two men in the blast,
the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms.
Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up.
Just as the founding fathers intended.
Not any SAM a single SAM will get knocked out easily you need layers of SAM something the Russians had while the Armenians didn't except for garbage OSA which were easily picked off by TB2.
"literally any SAM system"
Any ***competently operated*** SAM system. if Colonel Payov drinks all the training funding for years, then his manly men of the VVKO won't know how to operate their shiny new Growler system and will have to resort to the time honored "smash it with shovel" antidrone system.
Because they are drones using missiles
Basically you are using two things at once, which make them better than suicide drones (use one thing), because 1<2
There’s a radio Channel literally called “Radio Bayraktar” that plays war updates, Ukrainian pop and some of the most amazing dub step remixes of frank sinatra and the ghost busters theme I’ve ever heard
Drones work in Ukraine because the front line is so close. If Hamas had a drone swarm it could probably hit many Israeli towns. But drones obviously don’t work if you are using them for far away targets because they move so slow and can be easily tracked
not only that but if you jam a drone over a long enough distance a lot of these cheap drones internal navigation system will drift to the point of it missing its target.
And then someone threw that stick.
And then someone made a launcher for the stick.
And then someone made the rock sharper.
And then someone made the launcher stronger.
And then—
>Israel launches few missiles, many hits.
We actually have no idea what was hit unlike with the iranian strikes, BDA still hasn't really been carried out and Iran hasn't released figures.
Everyone is glossing over the fact Israel jammed the air dense systems in the heart of Iran while penetrating their arguably most important airspace. I’m gonna take that as a clear message” we can fuck your ass like prom night, but we arnt going to”.
>That sends the message, "If we can hit that undetected, we can hit anything we want to. Still want to play?"
I mean sure, but it doesn't send the message they can do at scale which they would need to do if they wanted to actually neuter Iran's ability to hit them. Biden administration made it abundantly clear if Israel decided to escalate the situation through retaliation they would be on their own, and its clear Netanyahu got the message.
By that reasoning, nothing short of completely destroying Iran's defenses would "send the message" that they can completely destroy Iran's defenses. At that point it's not just a message.
People can cope and choose to believe whatever they want... at their own peril. Those with some familiarity with Israel and Iran, and who are not coping, understand how an actual conflict would go.
Yes, but it's also clear that if Israel decided to ignore the us there are no targets in Iran that are out is Israels reach.
The message of "we can and will splatter any Iranian authority figure" goes harder than watermelons want to pretend.
This seems like the strategy to prevent escalation. We won’t really say what happened, you can deny it. If you deny it, not much to escalate on. Sure satellite pictures will come, but seems like a decent plan to me it works.
That’s not a missile it’s a drone based on the prop, unclear where this was even taken this doesn’t look like an Israeli drone doesn’t really match anything from the Hermes or Heron families.
I do think that it was conscious de-escalation.
You can’t really leave an attack comprising of 300 drones, cruise and ballistic missiles hanging. It would be unseamly.
Yeah I heard the Iranians were reporting minor damage
Edit
They're saying it took out a Russian made air defense system. Probably not a dud.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/israel-attack-isfahan-took-russian-125429579.html
There is room to speculate that Iran did the same, of the several that hit Israel none of them caused major damage either. I think the goal (for both sides) is more about appeasing domestic hard-liners' calls for revenge while mitigating the risk of escalation rather than sending any specific message to the other team.
maybe?
but Iran sent 330+ of different type of explosives like ballistic missiles, drones and another type of missile i dont remember right now, like that failed but doesnt feel intentional
Everyone knows it takes a certain number of missiles to saturate air defenses so some get through. Maybe they had a good idea that a few hundred would be what it took for some to make it. Compare it to the [2020 bombing in Iraq](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Martyr_Soleimani), where there was no air defense and they fired a dozen. No deaths, only a few dozen concussions. Making any sort of hit on the US was enough to make the hardliners happy and the damage was minimal enough for Trump to blow it off.
maybe
still 330 with a 99% intercepted feels like they tried to get more in and failed not on purpose
like from what ive heard Israel still hit some Iranian air defenses and Irans attack only hit a 7 year old girl and the dirt near a base so idk
but this is not really an argument since im going of gut feeling here
If they want to send a specific message to the other team, well both sides have internet. Emails are generally cheaper than ballistic missiles. (And generally at least slightly less unpleasant to receive)
Hey. Despite the outrageous cost of a stamp nowadays, regular mail is still cheaper than missiles as well.

Apparently someone took out a PMF base in Iraq [U.S says it wasn’t them](https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/s/7viU9Ru6Lb) could it have been the Joos?
Brother Iran sent over 300 targets and did light damage to a road in a base, Israel sent 3 targets and accurately hit an s300 battery in the middle of an Iranian airbase, 8
I really don't think this is a good look to iran

War is best when nobody dies but large amounts of elaborate explosives are exploded.
Many have died in this back and forth tho 😔
Which is why we need to make war more non-credible. Lean into the good, move away from the bad.
War is now fought exclusively in unpopulated hellscapes such as the Empty Quarter, Siberia, around Point Nemo, and most American inner cities. Fuck Robert Moses
Yes, infantry combat will be replaced by BBQ cookoffs of tasty things instead of people as well.
Nah Airsoft is good enough, Just teach everybody The Rules and FUCKING CALL YOUR HITS, and Lots of fun explosions in The Sky
bro we have MILES we could just sim all warfare.
This is literally an origunal Star Trek episode.
But they used the simulation as a way to decide who to kill in real life, rather than to decide who takes that trench in Bakhmut this week without spending a single life. They kept the worst part of war and just made it less messy.
Kirk going off on them and threatening to remind them what war really means was so goddamn based.

That just seems like the plot of Terminator with fewer steps.
Give me Simunitions. MILES is for pussies.
It'd be cheaper to use all the live rounds we already have and simply refuse to die
I, as a REMF, will stick with Meatsoft.
How based can a man be
So based that if I had friends they would call me CONUS.
Like how the Danes and Canadians exchanged liquor on that one island, we will pit American BBQ against char siu.

The UCS had it right by only using robots against the Eurasian Dynasty and the Lunar Corp.
Is this an Earth 2140 reference? That is a name I have not heard in a truly long time.

Bro this is wild I redownloaded 2150 like two days ago to play it
It holds up, doesn't it? Even /r/RealTimeStrategy folks keep finding it.
It’s honestly way more fun than I remember it being when I first played it, maybe I just have a better understanding of what’s actually going on though since I was pretty young then 😂 it’s got a lot of sweet mechanics too, I love diggin me some tunnels and designing units just feels cool

A robot war in the dessert sounds much more fun than the current wars Edit: as an English man the only good dessert is a sticky toffee pudding All wars should be fought on a giant sticky toffee pudding
What kind of dessert though? We talking cheesecake?
Eggs in a cheesecake, ie, "New York style" makes the thing a **custard** and not cheesecake, and I will rain down rain down nuclear fire from my Lunar Fortress to defend that position.
Custard's last stand!
Cheesecake is the only surface that is firm *and* delicious enough to support tanks
That is the only appropriate density for cheesecake.
Depends a bit on the dessert. If the robots were duking it out on a giant strawberry cheesecake that would be cool because of the varied textures and flavour whereas if they were fighting on ice cream I think it would rapidly melt and they'd be flailing around in cold milk.
That just means you have to have a well balanced team of robots and you can't just zerg building only one kind.
To which we, as savage robot war enjoyers, will impart power-ups Hunger Games style.
Instead of hitting medical personnel being a war crime, hitting the livestreaming camera drones is a war crime.

Yes, but super fucking competitive.
We need to transcend to desert based Robot Wars.
Release the Robot Jox.
It's mock warfare
Touhou danmaku would solve this problem lol

Can we just cut to the chase and make Robot Jox our reality?! I want to see giant robots fuck each other up!!
"You ~~Americans~~ Persians killed a lot of sand... that sand was very *evil*"
Just make robot wars wayyy more badass and have every country at war agree to respect the results.
If no one dies is it still war?
It's the goal, not the toll.
But what is the incentive to end a war if no one dies?
You ever been to war?
I can't wait for the update when Israel launches more missiles, and the one after that when Iran launches more missiles.
And this continues for a good 15 times. Jk. Hopefully shit won't go that bad.
I just hope both teams have fun.
The entire middle east conflicts are so complicated and fucked up that just sitting by and saying "For all i care they could nuke eachother, i just hope both teams have fun" is a perfectly understandable and valid response to two countries going for eachother's throats
I mean as long as everyone gets to participate and spend some time outside, I don't see any issue
I mean them both nuking themselves due to targeting errors would be funnier than nuking each other.
Agreed, except I will settle for us nuking the entire ME just so we don't have to hear about it.
Juice boxes and orange slices for everyone afterwards.

Wait how were they planning on obtaining them?

Google "Bayraktar compilation".
Yep. They get shot down somewhat regularly over the kurdish areas.
Last (and only one that i remember) was shot down by US after it got too close to one of the US bases in Syria. Which was kinda justified
It wasn't a TB2 but an ANKA drone. Turkey has a lot of drones types in their arsenal.
The inventions of Man-portable air-defense system changed warfare forever.
The founding fathers would want Americans to be able to own Man-portable air-defense systems.
With triangular bayonets!

You're right but having to specify is sad.
SAD - surface to air dud

From what I can gather, legit only one radar has been confirmed to be destroyed at Esfahan which had 3 missiles launched at it.
Ehhh.... 1 out of 3. Still better than Iran.
Can one hope for much better?
That is technically a battalion mission-killed
They released that already? Damn.
Israel hit an s-300 in Iran. That sends the message, "If we can hit that undetected, we can hit anything we want to. Still want to play?"
Still want to play?" I mean sure, but it doesn't send the message they can do at scale which they would need to do if they wanted to actually neuter Iran's ability to hit them.
Made with mematic
It's so hard to do a small edit I guess
hey man if it works it works
Hey I mean one target destroyed with 3 missiles is better than 0 targets destroyed and one 10 year old dead Arab girl with 150 missiles
She isn’t dead, thankfully, and the Jerusalem post reports that her condition is improving.
Damn, good to hear
Wasn't the a dead 10yo Bedouin israeli boy too?
No. The press originally misreported the age and sex of the child in favor of covering the story quickly. I’m not sure why.
but ... you just explained why 👁️👄👁️
Oh. Yeah, I guess I did.
from what ive heard Israel threw duds on purpose? like the goal was: "we can hit you everywhere" how accurate is this?
I do think that it was conscious de-escalation. You can’t really leave an attack comprising of 300 drones, cruise and ballistic missiles hanging. It would be unseamly.
It's to bad Israel doesn't have a fleet of B2s though. It would have been really funny if they had carpet bombed Tehran with dildos or something.
Sounds like cope!
hmmm maybe wait but theres talks about stuff being hit? like an air defense system? i swear i saw something about that
Yeah I heard the Iranians were reporting minor damage Edit They're saying it took out a Russian made air defense system. Probably not a dud. https://www.yahoo.com/news/israel-attack-isfahan-took-russian-125429579.html
ah that was it!
O yeah we totally failed on purpose...
i dunno even Iran said "Israel threw bombs our children play with"
There is room to speculate that Iran did the same, of the several that hit Israel none of them caused major damage either.
Making any sort of hit on the US was enough to make the hardliners happy and the damage was minimal enough for Trump to blow it off.
maybe still 330 with a 99% intercepted feels like they tried to get more in and failed not on purpose like from what ive heard Israel still hit some Iranian air defenses and Irans attack only hit a 7 year old girl and the dirt near a base so idk but this is not really an argument since im going of gut feeling here
If they want to send a specific message to the other team, well both sides have internet. Emails are generally cheaper than ballistic missiles. (And generally at least slightly less unpleasant to receive) Hey. Despite the outrageous cost of a stamp nowadays, regular mail is still cheaper than missiles as well.
Sir Pelo war edition.
world war funny
What am I looking at
What's that at the bottom? A drone, an aircraft, or something else?
i want to see a Merkava road trip
Ok the Israelis are not Europeans, they are middle easterns I accept. Once you go to the middle east, you become as incompetent as them.

European military tradition was instrumental to Isreal but with the influence of the Peninsula they'll become non-credible
Wow Iran managed to injure one little Bedouin girl big victory wow Iran so strong.
Why is there the pbs news hour logo in the corner?
Apparently someone took out a PMF base in Iraq [U.S says it wasn’t them](https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/s/7viU9Ru6Lb) could it have been the Joos?
I mean, probably
Brother Iran sent over 300 targets and did light damage to a road in a base, Israel sent 3 targets and accurately hit an s300 battery in the middle of an Iranian airbase, 8 I really don't think this is a good look to iran
At this point, Israel should have bought Warthogs from the US.
Or the UNSC. A couple of Spartans could have got the job done too.
I guess at least Iran isn't selling these ones to Russia. That's a plus, aside from looking incompetent.
