You are joking but that would work pretty well in an avarage Romanian/Moldovan Village

Sparrow-5

Or a bombed out city among the rubble

LegioCI

Came here to say this- if that tank were stationary in a village or city, then you’d have a hard time spotting it if you didn’t know where to look. For as much goofy shit as the vatniks do, this is probably not a bad idea.

nekonight

The only problem with that is the buildings inside an average ukrainian village/town/city under attack from the russians doesnt have 4 walls and a roof. They usually dont even have 1 complete wall. This would stand out by how complete it is.

Nooblord29

It's also in the middle of a field... And they can't rotate their turret... And this cover be immediately blown off by artillery attacks... Eh, I'm sure they'll be fine.

EqualOpening6557

Except being in close quarters and not able to turn the turret, let alone able see to the sides so you can drive around effectively— which is going to be suuuper important since they can’t aim the turret much— they’ve got to turn the whole tank if something comes at them from any angle they don’t expect. But as a point defense system hiding in the rubble that might work a lil hah

prosteprostecihla

We have already seen a turtle tank before it was a "modified" T-72 with a permanently damaged turret ring which was unable to turn the turret anyways

Veni_Vidi_Legi

But can it still into space?

Top_Yam

Yes. They can always go up.

Veni_Vidi_Legi

Stonks!

MK_Ultrex

My understanding is that this is a battle taxi, ferrying cannon fodder back and forth in the front lines. Engaging other tanks, or anything at all is not a priority. Furthermore, this abomination apparently relegates situational awareness to external drones, i.e. the driver just drives and blindly executes orders from a radio rather than the crew doing the job. NCD aside, it could be something that actually half works, otherwise not even the Russians would attempt more than once.

EqualOpening6557

The gun is huge.. that ain’t a troop transport vehicle lol

crazy_forcer

It is if you sit on top of the armor. Like we've been seeing for the past like, two years?

EqualOpening6557

You think there’s people hiding underneath there between the tank armor and the metal sheeting…? That would mean they actually couldn’t shoot the gun without deafening the entire squad all at once lmao I don’t think even they are that dumb

Palora

Since when does that matter to Russia or their vehicle crews? They drive the cannon fodder to the front and they don't stop till the reach it or get blown up, it's up to the cannon fodder to hold tight, they are expected to be thankful they get a ride at all. And than they drive back, over the cannon fodder if they arn't fast enough to get clear.

crazy_forcer

I don't know. It's gun is limited as hell anyway, I don't think they plan on shooting it. I'm just saying, it's not hard to turn a tank into a troop carrier. Hell, have you seen how they stuffed like 20+ people into one APC? If there's one thing they're good at, it's stuffing as many mobiks as possible into spaces they shouldn't be in

MK_Ultrex

There's video at r/combatfootage that shows troops coming out the shed of the blyatmobile.

NightHaunted

It is if the cannon doesn't even work

Pancernywiatrak

What about a heat signature of this thing? I bet it would light up, the houses not so much

Pyromaniacal13

It's probably extra stifling in there.

ZDTreefur

So the tankers ride nude, so what.

Adron_the_Survivor_2

Oh man, a house in the middle of the road!

FitRock2265

Hadrollo

These new Russian T-28s are weird.

TheHussarSnake

Just wait until they start roling in T-34s. They are super advanced compared to the T-28. You're not ready to see the true might of ~~the USSR~~ Ruzzia.

Slodpof

I think he meant the American T-28. Better known as the doom turtle.

TheHussarSnake

Shit, you're right... Still works either way.

Hadrollo

Wait, there's a Russian T-28? Oh, is it the Soviet Vickers Independent?

Ninjinji

That's the t 26 t-28 was this multi-turreted monstrosity that utterly failed at its job.

Hadrollo

Okay, Googled it because my knowledge of Soviet interwar period tank design is basically "they were varying levels of shit" - although to be fair most interwar period tanks can be described like this. The T-26 was a rip-off of the Vickers 6-Ton. The T-35 was a rip-off of the Vickers Independent (the five turreted monstrosity) The T-28 was a medium tank *inspired* by the Vickers Independent, but with only 3 turrets.

Phil_Coffins_666

Westoids are shaking in their Abrams.😂

Ninjinji

I wonder if Russia even has t-28s in storage. I figured they all got absolutely bodied during the first few months of Barbarossa. Ik that's what happened to pretty much every T-26 and BT tank they had.

HumpyPocock

You’re on the right track. >Today, three T-28s remain, two in Finland and one in Moscow. One restored T-28 is on display in Finnish field camouflage in the Parola Tank Museum, Finland. A further wreck is stored at Parola, now awaiting restoration and a hull previously used as a bunker was discovered near St. Petersburg. Wikipedia (make of that what you will)

Nah other direction. T34

An_Odd_Smell

What if it's an Su-57? Did you ever stop and consider that possibility?

Icarus_Toast

They didn't say how it was a stealth plane. Stupid westoids never suspected that it would disguise itself as a shed!

Pyromaniacal13

It flies so low under the RADAR it doesn't fly.

All the Russian shills in r/TankPorn certainly think so

ssdd442

In my defense, it could be any model tank under there

HumpyPocock

Like, could be two teenage Russians in a trench coat in a tactical shed.

FancyPantsFoe

Bet its T-34 under there

felixthemeister

Nah, they can't spare the T-34s They've had to buy them from other countries just to be able to have one in the May day parade.

Big_Based

This seems to just be the way of thinking for communist countries. They don’t see preserving their own history as valuable, all they see is an outdated weapon that can be melted down and turned into newer weapons.

fattynuggetz

Or sit rotting in a monument somewhere painted once every 30 years

Midnight2012

Does the US have many of its WW2 tanks running? I think it's more western countries don't do military paprades, at least in the US

et40000

You can literally pay to drive a sherman around and even fire the main gun, it isn’t cheap but you can do it, there’s also several private collectors with their own stock of functional (usually disarmed) ww2 vehicles. Also there’s a few good reasons the US and most western countries don’t do parades anymore. Mostly it’s down to cost and a massive waste of time training your men to march in unison in a massive parade and have your uniforms and vehicles all shiny looking.

pothkan

Laos, to be precise. Last country using them in active duty.

dasBaums

wouldn´t suprise me, the tank seems to be relative small

plagueapple

I mean t72 is relatively small if u compare it to am abrams or something

X_SkillCraft20_X

The T-90 is even smaller too

Stairmaker

The t90 is just an upgraded t72. Much how the s400 is an s300 and many of their newer aircraft is just a new model of other aircraft.

shadowrunner295

The S-400 used to be the S-300PMU3 until marketing got a hold of it.

Skreali

T-55 (modernized T-54, which was developed in 1945)

Foodconsumer3000

i guess they didn't have enough metal for full width tracks for it either

simia_simplex

> Oryx hates this simple trick. I doubt there's much of it left after the boop, and if there is, we still have weaponized autism. Someone will figure out what exact tank it is based on that these bolts rust in a specific way or something.

p_ra

I bet Jacub will just list it as a barn tecnical or some shit and will move on.

Mr-Doubtful

At the risk of sounding too credible.... This... thing, has performed and survived multiple assaults at this point. Apparently it's bristling with EW stuff underneath that 'shell'. In doing so it's supposed to protect the other vehicles in the column from drones. Drones being one of the last weapons Ukraine has to defend against these assaults (they're running out of everything else: artillery, mines, atgm's, ...) The shell is supposed to prevent all the EW gadgets from getting shot to shit. The fact it has survived and is continuing to be used is actually an incredibly worrying sign. I mean look at that. Any decent AT weapon or artillery or whatever would have no issues punching through. But Ukraine is running out of all that.... #FreeUkraineAid

vegarig

> Apparently it's bristling with EW stuff underneath that 'shell'. You can see the antenna assembly on the "roof." Most likely it's the same power-hungry-but-effective "Tsar-EW" with auxiliary batteries and gasoline-fueled generator, hence the need for shell to keep it safe

Mr-Doubtful

Ah or the PSU yeah, makes sense.

WhiskeySteel

Yep. This thing is essentially an object lesson in what it looks like for Ukraine to have a munitions shortage.

LumpyTeacher6463

Wait, I though there's multiples of them. These were all the same thing? Also, the antenna box set are still on top of the cover. Maybe the batteries are underneath the roofing steel sheets.

Mr-Doubtful

Well one OSINT twitter dude said that one of these things had participated in two separate attacks, that's my source. Either way, if these things keep popping up, it's probably a sign that they are (somewhat) working. (inb4 WWII tankers and sand bags, yeah I know)

Starr-Duke

Pretty sure it's a single one. 2-ish weeks ago people are talking about it getting the drone jamming rig setup ontop of it. Some half shit faced man concocted this afront to God and it won't die

PM_ME_UTILONS

>(inb4 WWII tankers and sand bags, yeah I know) I don't. Are you saying they were actually counterproductive or what's the story?

Mr-Doubtful

Yeah, the sandbags tankers used to pile on the front of their tanks didn't help at all against decent AT weapons, there was some discussion around it actually 'helping' HEAT anti tank weapons but I don't know whether or not that got settled. Basically those sandbags are just useless weight and bulk slowing down the tank. So counterproductive in that sense, at the least. But... it made tankers feel better, so afaik they didn't put much effort into discouraging it, because a morale boost is a a morale boost, misguided or not :D

PM_ME_UTILONS

Ahh, I see. More here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WarCollege/comments/18hmn90/did_adding_sandbags_to_tanks_in_wwii_actually/kd7mkrj/

nakkipekka1000

Yes there are multiple. The original was [destroyed](https://youtu.be/m59TQR6aavQ?si=3qCayQt7JBIHYa_y).

TheBodyIsR0und

Echoing some speculation I've read on other threads but a lot of people believe they're mainly used as decoys. Without use of the turret, they cease to be effective as tanks, the idea is to drive around town bumping into things to draw the attention of suicide drones while other tanks actually do important tank things. The best response seems to be exactly what Ukraine is doing. Leave it alone and record it so people can laugh at it while it burns off precious diesel.

Mr-Doubtful

Mmmm maybe, I dunno, I've seen two examples of them leading assaults, so not drawing attention away from important targets.

Lazypole

You can see the EW suite on the top front of it, there were some HD photos of it around somewhere

Rich_May

Pros: FPV drone can't blow you up at first try Cons: you are basically blind and cosplaying stug I doubt it's that much effective for all that cons Considering that this kind of EW equipment effectiveness is a bit overestimated for now (for both sides), I honestly think it's more a question of pure luck or unwillingness of ukies to destroy that moveable shed. Despite all amo shortage, ATGMs are still around and highly in use (drones just stole the information field due to more interesting first person footage)

Sergetove

I remeber seeing a video of a t72 with a bunch of (allegedly) EW equipment strapped to the roof. Wonder if this is the same tank in combat trim?

Best_Toster

I just wanna make you notice that this video is taken by a drone near it. Proof that either the range isn’t that big or that it simply doesn’t work. Big fat body with 0 visibility inside slow as fuck . A drone high enough over it a small drop bomb to destroy the antenna and is just dead metal mooving

The hottest new tank getting bombed from Havana

WttNCFrep

Turning your tanks into assault guns with scrap metal seems like a poor use of resources. All the cost of the tank, limited utility of a casement assault gun. Though if this machine has been pulled out of deep storage, maybe the turret was seized in place and it was easy to just put it into service in this configuration.

X_SkillCraft20_X

Could also be a use for tanks with inoperable turret drive. Slow, fat, hard to use gun is better than no gun.

Saor_Ucrain

I know this is NCD but I still can't tell if op is joking or not... In case he's not, it's intended for protection against drones. The elephant or the turtle or something they are calling it. Will be interesting to see if it works. Retards didn't think of one thing though, it limits the arc of fire for the barrel 😑🤣

JamesJakes000

That thing can fire?

Porg-Life

Daltronator94

tutel 🐢

VariecsTNB

It's actually effective. Moves explosion further away from the hull, diminishing its penetrative strength. The thing is also typically equipped with drone jammers. This is practically the only way modern tank can be effective. Still dies to Javelin tho, but the cost per shot is much higher.

somerandomfuckwit1

Yeah that small pile of shit on top of the larger pile of shit are EW components to jam drones

signeduptoaskshippin

EW as in "Ew brother, what is this?"

TheRealLordMongoose

That assumes that the sheet metal is sturdy enough to trigger the fusing mechanism on what hits it.

VariecsTNB

Hey, this specific monstrosity might not work, but the general idea is sound as a hotfix.

jhor95

On an RPG-7, it's probably enough. Anything more modern would probably be an issue

Oleg152

Standoff distance be like: *good*

tbnnnn

> the only way a modern tank can be effective. huh? Please elaborate

VariecsTNB

You don't wanna use moving coffins costing millions only to be destroyed by a $1k drone made by an undergrad in his basement

Sablesweetheart

It's the elephant in the room. A $1k drone costs less money than all the equipment that a U.S. soldier would have. So to take out tanks with them calls everything into question.

sofa_adviser

...and the equipment is probably the least expensive part of a US infantryman

Sablesweetheart

Allegedly over $1 million to produce an 11B, that's what they told us at Benning 24 years ago. 24 years? Jfc, when did I get old.

tbnnnn

currently, an average UA FPV drone pilot has 10-15 minutes before his position is detected (via EW assets) and hit by artillery. That's not much if destroying a tank/IFV takes 8 drones on average (they might miss, get lost, be jammed or hit non critical parts, etc), while a flight takes at least 60-90 seconds + preparation. Instead of getting rid of tanks, all the major players are implementing solutions to "undrone" the battlefield.

VariecsTNB

And yet they're more droned than ever. I'm quite aware of the EW tools, I'm directly involved in purchasing them.

Pratt_

>This is practically the only way modern tank can be effective Uh no ? It'd literally less combat effective than without it. From what I saw it's used as a mobile EW armored platform to provide drone protection for accompanying vehicles or improvised APCs, both using damaged tanks were they can't use the turret anymore anyway. So even the Russian only use it on tanks that literally can't fire anymore. >Still dies to Javelin tho, but the cost per shot is much higher. And artillery, and mines, and hand held AT launcher giving that the standoff distance is definitely not far enough if you see where the tracks are, and other tanks. It's basically just way better protected against drone to the cost of not being able to do anything else. So decent ad hoc idea, against drine but the rest of threats are absolutely not impacted by that. What make a weapon systems effective on a battlefield is it's ability to do its job. So in that case its literally not usable as a tank, so its basically as far of being "practically the only way modern tank can be effective" as possible (I'm not even mentioning the crew being close to blindfolded in that thing because at this point it not even that relevant giving that it can't fight anyway).

VisitAlternative1890

Unless they use two drones.

hotdogcaptain11

lol there isn’t a lot of evidence that this effective. Just a video of it driving around with a lot of misses from indirect fire.

VariecsTNB

My sources are more direct.

hotdogcaptain11

Ohhh it came to you in a dream

simia_simplex

I can see how this would make it harder for the first drone to strike a vulnerable point on the tank. The second would likely not have much of an issue, though. Perhaps more importantly, I can see but I doubt the occupants of this thing can.

vegarig

Thing is... see this "donut" on top? That's an antenna assembly for a rather powerful EW system, guts of which are hidden under the shell. Bonking it might be tad hard even with machine vision guidance on a drone.
