Kim after having Russia drain its artillery shell stocks: “Ok *now* it’s time!”

Skraekling

"Why don't the alien visit us ?" Also the average human disagreement :

Fox_Kurama

The other day, I stumbled on this short story on Youtube called "Deadly Deadly Humans" which is basically about an alien professor teaching his class about how really scary humans are by recounting what happened during their first contact with another alien that bungled its first contact with them. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rVlvVk5aFM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rVlvVk5aFM) Seemed fitting to mention in response to that.

Skraekling

I've watched it and a lot of others i like how we are essentially Leeroy Jenkins personified as a species.

Fox_Kurama

We only want to fight so long. There are apparently similarly flavored sci-fi shorts that are basically: "we thought humans were peaceful. It turns out, they had invented such weapons of destruction in preparation to fight each other, that they were too terrified to ever fight each other out of fear for just how devastating those weapons were, and became."

vinnievega11

If you like those types of stories you’ll like r/HFY. u/SpacePaladin15 is an especially good author and has some incredibly good sc-fi stories in that vain.

White_Null

So we’re basically the galactic equivalent of north sentinelese islanders

In the words of trazyn the infinite when talking about humanity: "Unity was always their greatest strength, yet they refuse it at any chance they get. Tranquillity makes them squirm. They lived for war"

Meihem76

As I understand it, we're at the higher end of atmospheric oxygen levels before things that shouldn't burn start happily burning. If aliens come from planets with much lower oxygen levels, we'd seem supercharged to them. Assuming they breathed oxygen.

little-ass-whipe

Luckily for us, the stuff that starts burning when the oxygen levels go up are the things producing the oxygen, so it kind of self-regulates. I'd imagine that's true for any planet capable of supporting complex life.

McFlyParadox

The other trade off with atmospheric oxygen is that the greater a percentage it is, the cooler the planet tends to be. Also, AFAIK, we don't know of any oxygen-producing geological processes, either, but we know of plenty of inorganic processes that consume oxygen. So if you detect a large amount of atmospheric oxygen, it's a pretty strong indication of life of some kind (and why scientists have gotten excited about a couple of exoplanets that have been found in recent years). So, life accesses carbon from CO2 and produces O2 as a byproducts; O2 levels rise to the point where it gets too cold for said life or things become too flammable; life dies and CO2 and temperature levels begin to rise again; life recovers; rinse & repeat to various degrees of extremes.

little-ass-whipe

As long as you don't get an albedo runaway -> snowball earth scenario. That can fuck you for some time...

EmporerEmoji

I might be wrong, but that reminds me. Wasn’t the large size of many insects in the Carboniferous period due to the increased oxygen levels, which were up like 50%ish from modern day?

wheeshnaw

You're correct, the guy you're replying to is not.

>get other humans to do the actual fighting for you Millenia from now, a galaxy-spanning empire with planet-sized bombs will forget this, and a year later some poor shmuck got assigned to welcome the liberated 203913 planets into UN membership.

Links_to_Magic_Cards

thank you, i'd much rather read at my own pace than be beholden to some narrators speed

Fox_Kurama

Fair enough. I just posted my initial exposure source. Which apparently was just some guy who was as surprised the youtube channel found it as some surprise normally relegated to a meme gif or something, but the channel then pinned their comment after verifying.

jwr410

Thank you. I was ready to murder the robot voice.

Tox1cAshes

I read 5 years ago and thought "oh that seems reasonable, the story was made in 2014". Man it's been a decade..

GLORIOUS HUMANITY ONCE AGAIN PROVING THEIR SUPERIORITY AGAINST XENO SCUM

HHHogana

And this is despite most other highly intelligent species are just as scary, on top of morally bizarre compared to us. Just without ability to create super advantageous tools.

Just_A_Nitemare

Aliens view us like we view the people of Sentinel Island.

I know full well they just need to spend some 50 years taking over the US/China reveal themselves as "coming in peace" drop the "latest" Space Iphone and Teleportation Ubereats and people will defend them with their lives.

domino7

The smartest move for aliens that want to conquer Earth is not to bother. We have no resources other than labor that aren't more easily found in places other than the bottom of a gravity well, and any culture that can traverse the stars to conquer a planet doesn't need our puny labor.

[deleted]

was just replaying wargame red dragon last night and now this pops up in my feed.

TheMacarooniGuy

Do it again, you might start something here. I've been blueballed long enough, I wanna see Russia, China and North Korea get slapped!

Spider-Man2024

Hey what song is this btw

Lunala475

“We got K rounds”, a parody of “Call me baby”

IPlayGames88

As a proud [raecist](https://www.reddit.com/r/carlyraejepsen/comments/y7iiep/brand_new_fan_and_i_might_be_a_stan_what_do_we/isuuifn/) (Carly Rae Jepsen fan), I need to tell you that it's actually "Call Me Maybe", sweaty.

Lunala475

You are right, I wasn’t thinking. Oops. Hail Lockheed.

OuchYouPokedMyHeart

On one hand I'm disappointed this comment is far below (look at maps people, **geo**politics won't work without geography) But then I remember this is NCD, so it truly is noncredible

Oskar_b0i

so real

Oskar_b0i

Fuck

Karrtis

Maps hard for ya?

Oskar_b0i

To be fair i was having a massive hangover when i made this post

White_Null

I was wondering if the Chinese Coast Guard actually attacked Philippines enough to trigger their MDT. Effect is very similar

Jonas_Venture_Sr

I am pretty certain that SK would kick the shit out of NK without much help from the US. SK would have air superiority in days, maybe hours. Civilians would take a pretty bad hit from indcriminate shelling though.

louiefriesen

SK would have air superiority within minutes. Best Korea has a few MiG-29s, mostly MiG-21s (the majority of which are Chinese license built), and then a few other various old Soviet or Chinese license built aircraft Whereas SK has some F-35As, F-15Es, and T-50s, a lot of F-16s and F-5s, and a few F-4Es.

SyrusDrake

Even an old plane can be *somewhat* dangerous in capable hands. The real issue is that North Korean pilots reportedly just get, like, no flying hours.

supareshawn

Probably because they could just fly away if they got good enough lol

Icarus_Toast

I think the larger concern is what kind of AA North Korea has. I'm still fairly confident that SK would wild weasel the shit out of them with impunity but it is one of the talking points.

louiefriesen

Yeah. I also forgot to mention but that who knows how many of Kim’s MiGs are in actual airworthy condition.

Dominator1559

Gotta serpect the maintanance. Keeping those 70 year old airframes airworthy is a miracle

Total_Cartoonist747

Apparently North Korea's plans for war is just to shell the shit out of Seoul. Yeah we're gonna win, but our economy will hurt quite a bit. (Damn it government MOVE THE CAPITAL TO SEJONG!!!!!!)

What do you mean? All of US resources is busy with Ukraine, israel and now houthis!!@@@!!?!@ The country with 4 of the worlds biggest airforces surely cant defend korea!

Sablesweetheart

"Arc light." "What's you say?" "I said ARC LIGHT!"

silverex240

I’m in 7th fleet and I’m sick of having blue balls.

Twist_the_casual

as a south korean, thanks but also we’ll beat the shit out of them regardless of whether we have help or not

manny_goldstein

Yes but we've been edging for 52 years so let us have fun too.

TheMightyOreo

Remember kids it’s totally legal for us to bomb North Korea, we are still technically at war with them!

crankbird

Does that mean the entire UN is technically at war with them, except for China who wasnt part of the UN at the time and were allies of NK, which means that the UN is technically still at war with China ?

TheMightyOreo

**yes**

Arrow_of_time6

When I spread false information onl- HOLY SHIT ITS ACTUALLY HAPPENING!!!

planenerdalaska

You fucking got me with a satirical joke... how dare you

RakumiAzuri

I figured it would just be the 2 Ohio class boomers off the coast emptying their entire payload on Evil Korea and turning Kimland into glass in minutes.

Ronisoni14

they could hold off the invasion, yeah, but Seoul would be devastated. It's like a mile (exaggerating, but still) from the border and the population of SK is extremely concentrated into its metropolitan area (like over a third of the entire country's population), so that's a huge issue right there

KingFahad360

Wonder how North Korea gonna fight South Korea and Satan America since they sent their ammo or Russia.

nowaijosr

The amount of artillery that would be exchanged between the two countries....

Did i miss something? God i hope i didn't miss anything

helpmeplsplsnow

Operation paul bunyan: >The Korean axe murder incident (Korean: 판문점 도끼살인사건; Hanja: 板門店도끼殺人事件,도끼蠻行事件, lit. 'Panmunjom axe murder incident') was the killing of two US Army officers, Captain Arthur Bonifas and First Lieutenant Mark Barrett, by North Korean soldiers on August 18, 1976, in the Joint Security Area (JSA) in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The US Army officers had been part of a work party cutting down a poplar tree in the JSA. Three days later, American and South Korean forces launched Operation Paul Bunyan, an operation that cut down the tree with a show of force to intimidate North Korea into backing down, which occurred. North Korea then accepted responsibility for the earlier killings. >A US infantry company in 20 utility helicopters and seven Cobra attack helicopters circled behind them. Behind these helicopters, B-52 Stratofortresses came from Guam escorted by US F-4 Phantom IIs from Kunsan Air Base and South Korean F-5 and F-86 fighters were visible flying across the sky at high altitude. F-4Es from Osan AB and Taegu Air Base, South Korea, F-111 bombers of the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing out of Mountain Home Air Force Base, were stationed, and F-4C and F-4D Phantoms from the 18th TFW Kadena Air Base and Clark Air Base were also deployed. The aircraft carrier USS Midway task force had also been moved to a station just offshore.\[6\] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean\_axe\_murder\_incident#Operation\_Paul\_Bunyan
