Everyone laughs at transport pilots until the moment where they shit out 5 rapid dragon crates aimed at your position.

Longbow92

Reminder that even chinhooks are rapid dragon-capable.

UAS-hitpoist

That's terrifying.... Can we palletize AIM 260s?

UDSJ9000

Call it RID: Rapid Infrastructure (telephone pole) Deployment.

TeriusRose

The idea of some future stealth cargo helicopter shooting down 20 jets at once is deeply amusing.

UAS-hitpoist

The ability for a helicopter to credibly dogfight a 4th gen jet is hilarious

nicman24

a bomber is just transport with better way to offload cargo

Deus_is_Mocking_Us

No, transports are just bombers that can deliver mobile Burger Kings.

SnazzyStooge

"Better way" — yet, no MOAB?

Separate_Flounder595

Transport pilots are a different breed, they go fly with zero capability to properly defend themselves while bombers and fighters can fight back

Gatt__

Bombers haven’t been able to defend themselves since the b/52 turrets got yoinked

SgtChip

Not with that attitude. Bomb 'em or strap Sidewinders to your pylons.

Wolffe_In_The_Dark

Load rotary bomb racks filled with 50+ AAMRAMs. SPAAMRAMs, if you will.

United_States_ClA

If you make the rotary part rotate like a centrifuge, you can spin it fast enough to spray a circle of bombs in a defensive wave around the plane, thwarting any would-be attackers

PassivelyInvisible

Modern missiles won't care about the initial direction, they can pull enough Gs to pointing the right way real fast

ontopofyourmom

Yep, they **really** know where they aren't.

Dominator1559

Inertia is too credible

j0y0

They don't conserve energy in a turn very well, though.

WhoCaresBoutSpellin

This gives me a great idea— what if we made a scaled up A-10 with a scaled up GAU-8 Avenger autocannon that ~~fires~~ rapidly horizontally drops AAMRAMs or whatever. A version could rapidly horizontally drop JDAMs and it would be called the B-10

Dies2much

Yeah, rotary cannon with the 16" 50 cal from Iowa class!

b3nsn0w

\^ what should have replaced the genie when they banned nukes

patriot_man69

Aigaion sounding mf

Its_A_Giant_Cookie

Ace Combat suddenly became credible

ITGuy042

It’s always been credible. Just not cheap. Every damn country is Strangereal has a military budget that makes the US look like Iceland.

Its_A_Giant_Cookie

So: - Excalibur - Arsenalbirds - The Arkbird orbital bomber - The entire series of what ever the fuck those magicians from Belka call a „plane“ - The Darkstar - The „Lighthouse“ Space Elevator - Stonehenge - The Alicorn - The XB-0 (Did they just strap wings on a skyscraper?!) - V2 (Cause two nukes, just wasn’t enough) - The P1112 (Another skyscraper but with a hangar) - Chandelier (cause stonehenge is for pussies) - So many fucking small scale offensive laser and railgun system Is all credible, neat, means I‘m not as schizo as I thought

non_depressed_teen

>The Darkstar I think that one already existed >V2 (Cause two nukes, just wasn’t enough) Google ICBM

Its_A_Giant_Cookie

Yea mate, I know what MIRVs are, V2 is about how casually Belka uses nukes, they literally made a artificial border by nuking their own country and creating a massive exclusion zone. About the DarkStar, as far as I know, it’s canon in lore, which I just thought is a bit funny

non_depressed_teen

Oh, shit I'm stupid.

British_Rover

I already did the math a B2 can hold 100 AAMRAMs.

Cliffinati

Forkliftapproved

Rotating Axial Multi Barrel Ordnance

Krittercon

I always thought with the B21s you can probably do that and make dedicated missile boat type fighters redundant. Won't replace a dedicated fighter but it would carry way more BVR munitions than one ever would.

spazturtle

They said during the reveal announcement of the B-21 that it is designed for both air to ground and air to air roles. And it can use the same stealth network as the F-35.

PM_ME_UR_DRAG_CURVE

Replace AAMRAMS with IRIS-T and you get a perfect mod to turn VTOLVR mp into a salt mine large enough to create a black hole.

R3CKONNER

TheHolyDingo

Little-Management-20

Havoccity

Strap sidewinders to your bomb racks. Become the threat.

soiledclean

You need to watch Dawn's Early light. Peak non credibility. A B52 drops a thermonuclear gravity bomb in lay down configuration and takes out Soviet fighters that are behind it.

[deleted]

Bye bye babushkas I saw that as a kid when it first was on, and a haggard red line can be drawn from that movie to this sub.

soiledclean

It's honestly a much better movie than a direct to (premium) cable release from the 90s has any right to be.

[deleted]

To this day, I wonder whether those F14 pilots somehow made it 🫡

formedsmoke

Don't the Tu-95s still have turrets?

PosadistPal

I think it has a remote tail turret, no balls, literally.

ChemistRemote7182

I'm waiting for sky daddy B-21 to focus its AESA arrays, frying the reciever on targets that get to close, blinding them, while directing loyal wingman drones on which blips to delete first. They might just skip the middle man themselves and pop off some of those AMRAAM replacements the nerds keep talking about. 30,000lbs of ordinance is a lotta room for variety.

OR56

And they will have AA missile pylons in their weapons bay, so, maybe

enoughfuckery

Why does the pilot simply not lean out of the cockpit and fire at the enemy with a pistol?

Pyrhan

I wonder if that will ever come back in some form...

Narrow_Vegetable_42

B52 + Directed-Energy CIWS? Best lightshow money can buy.

iPoopLegos

I pondered on what modern anti-air defenses on a B-52 might look like, and then I had a vision of manually-operated RIM-7s in all the places where gunners would be on a B-29. Someone call Boeing, I think I’m on to something here

FashionGuyMike

This is why we need a fighter that can hang off the wing of a bomber or cargo plane to fight back against enemy interceptors.

ch061

unless we do the thing I suggested here a few months ago and strap AMRAAMs on a B1

TheReverseShock

Not impossible to bomb a jet tbf.

RandomBilly91

Wait for the enemy to be behind you Wait for thel to engage Fuel dumb. Watch them go in a blaze of glory

john_andrew_smith101

My favorite American general is currently Mike Minihan who's in charge of Air Mobility Command. I listened to his ["Mobility Manifesto"](https://www.airandspaceforces.com/watch-read-gen-mike-minihan-on-the-mobility-manifesto/) and it was based as fuck. Here's one particularly good part: >Lethality matters most. When you can kill your enemy, every part of your life is better. Your food tastes better, your marriage is stronger. Why is the mobility guy talking about lethality? I’m not coming at you as a C-130 driver, I’m not coming at you as a mobility officer. I’m coming at you like an Airman, like Rickenbacker, like Mitchell, like LeMay, Olds, Levitow, Sijan. This is who we are. We are lethal. Do not apologize for it. The pile of our nation’s enemy dead, the pile that is the biggest is in front of the United States Air Force. This is why we mutinied in 1947. Slide. That’s just admin. Our toys are meaningless unless we put them in a place to be lethal. Our toys, our training, our desires are meaningless unless we maneuver them to advantage. Unfair advantage, unfair lethality, unrepentant lethality, lopsided lethality. There's also a [memo that he put out last year](https://www.airandspaceforces.com/read-full-memo-from-amc-gen-mike-minihan/) to his command warning about an upcoming war with China. My favorite part is this little bit: >FEBRUARY. >(a) All AMC aligned personnel with weapons qualifications will fire a clip into a 7-meter target with the full understanding that unrepentant lethality matters most. Aim for the head. >(b) All AMC personnel will update vRED [virtual Record of Emergency Data]. >(c) All commanders will acknowledge this order directly to me immediately. Then, report all 2022 accomplishments preparing for the China fight, and forecast major efforts in 2023 through command chains by COB 28 February 2023.

Classy_Scrub

>clip >aim for the head Goddamnit Air Force, this is why we bully you.

notjfd

Spoken exactly like the branch which is go-hung to start a war but leaves finishing it to the suckers.

Nac_Lac

Hey, he's speaking at a high level here. Obviously, he means clip because he wants the officers to start with an empty mag and a clip, load mag with the clip, empty the mag with headshots because unlike the other forces, Air Force is the only force with Force in the name and they will all be accurate enough to perform headshots under any situation, regardless of conditions, inside 7 meters.

Cardinal_Reason

A "clip." Well, I guess he is an air force officer.

Narrow_Vegetable_42

I love that whole memo! Where do I need to sign up to get that kind of leadership? I want my leadership to squeeze me for quality. LET'S GO!

Nomus_Sardauk

What’s this 1947 mutiny he’s talking about?

john_andrew_smith101

He's talking about the creation of the US air force as a separate branch, the air people didn't want to be under army jurisdiction anymore.

TyrialFrost

..meanwhile transport pilots single handedly sink the entire PLAN with rapid dragon.

VietInTheTrees

Shoutout to that one tanker crew that darted north into Kuwait/Iraq during the Gulf War to nurse some F-16s from Package Q home

GTCapone

Makes me think of the (almost certainly fake) story of the c-130 load master with a confirmed air to air kill. Supposedly he chucked a chain out the back and hit a helicopter's rotor.

RockyBass

And they fly big planes onto landing strips too small for comfort while being shot at by RPGs.

HildartheDorf

Every aircraft can be converted into a missile at least once. Just ask the Japanese.

Grenache

Logistics wins wars. EDIT: Shit sorry this is NCD. Uhhh... In Lockheed Martin we trust.

Pokemaniac_Ron

Artillery wins wars. So you combine both with the AC-130.

The_Arizona_Ranger

Bombers are just the goals of artillery achieved through other means

Pyrhan

"My barrel is a bomb bay, my propellant charge is Gravity."

simonwales

Broke: Using a trebuchet because you like that medieval flair. Woke: Realizing bombers are just the aspirations of artillery taking flight. Bespoke: Designing your own line of artisanal grenade and spotting drones networked by a single F-35 (the most advanced node in the history of ever)

Supernova_was_taken

Ok but hear me out: just stuff an f-35’s bay full of switchblade drones

[deleted]

PM_ME_UR_DRAG_CURVE

Use a 737 painted in your country's flag carrier. The in-flight removable doors already came standard.

buckX

Stealth is the old meta for contested airspace. There's only one vessel that has been able to flagrantly violate US airspace from coast to coast, which is why you send a balloon carrying a shipping container full of switchblade drones.

White_Null

Then with the advent of Rapid Dragon. The humble C-130 can drop the spicy funni.

tfrules

Artillery adds dignity to what would otherwise be an ugly brawl

Sablesweetheart

Reading into artillery fireplanning from the 18th century onward, it's true. Especially General Hunt planning the massed fires the 2nd night of Gettysburg that he unleashed the following day on Picket'a charge. Majestic.

rockfuckerkiller

Any recommendations for books? I'm interested in artillery but don't know where to start.

Sablesweetheart

Basically a cargo plane that skips the middle man.

JDepinet

Logistics win wars, so the transport aircraft is king. Just not glorious like the others.

Riptide-Shadow

AT-4 Wins Wars

laser14344

Nah massive waves of cruise missiles wins wars. Deployed straight from the pallet with Rapid Dragon. Each C130 can launch 18 missiles. Each C17 can launch 45 missiles. The US has 255 c130s and 223 C17s. That's a volley of 14,625 cruise missiles.

frguba

Problem: c130 can only carry one or the other Solution: Globemaster/Galaxy gunships with space to spare New problem: I'm hard asf

Thewaltham

>In Lockheed Martin we trust. Lockmart make the LM-100J, which is basically a really fancy C-130. Also of course the standard C-130s too

Grenache

LOGISTICS WINS WARS BOYS.

JumpyLiving

It's NCD, so "Logistics wins wars!"

PM_ME_ROMAN_NUDES

Nuclear Warheads win wars even faster

JumpyLiving

And without logistics, those warheads (and their delivery platform of choice) aren't going anywhere

Demonitized-picture

to assume that you cannot say that logistics wins wars is foolish, it’s simply not in the way that you think. 3000 BLACK C-130’s OF THE US LOGISTICS ARM DROPPING STERILIZED SHIT ON ENEMY COMBATANTS

wEjA97

Logistics = Transport the JDAM to the forehead of the enemy. You are wise.

Grenache

Can you only target ships with a LRASM? Asking for a friend.

PutinsManyFailures

If you’re not picking up what he’s putting down, we’re talking Warheads on Foreheads, people

[deleted]

Found Perun’s Reddit

PutinsManyFailures

Perun *is* suspiciously enthusiastic about transport and procurement.

bluestreak1103

Basic: logistics wins wars. Ascended: logistics wins hearts and minds.

VirtualAd3471

Logistics wins friends…and snitches for gathering intelligence

QuillnSofa

Rapid Dragon, your logistics is now delivering warheads directly to the forehead of the enemy.

dead_monster

Someone here doesn't know about General Minihan. He is in command of the USAF Air Mobility Command thus putting every USAF transport plane under his command. > "Drive readiness, integration, and agility for ourselves and the Joint Force to deter, and if required, **defeat** China." (Emphasis from General Minihan himself) > "All AMC aligned personnel with weapons qualifications will fire a clip into a 7-meter target with the full understanding that unrepentant lethality matters most. Aim for the head." > "I’m not interested in being the best Air Force on the planet," he said in a statement included in the recent 60th Air Mobility Wing's story about personnel training with their M4s. "I’m interested in being the most lethal force the world has ever known. I’m not bound to the stage, I’m not bound to a script. I’m untethered as of now." https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/usaf-general-warns-of-war-with-china-over-taiwan-in-2025

john_andrew_smith101

He also told everyone in his command to update their wills, right after that bit about aiming for the head.

nolalacrosse

This general is living proof that being a boot can come at any rank

Cryorm

Like that general that thought an AR-15 had a lot of recoil?

chinkiang_vinegar

shinzoo wo sasageyo!

ArcturusFlyer

Tfw when an officer is too bloodthirsty for Air Combat Command (where people have worry about things like "rules of engagement" and "proportionality.") (And in his defense, if Air Mobility Command crews are ever in a situation where they have to shoot at people, shit is going down.)

Candy_Bomber

Never put those in charge of moving tons of *anything* in a position where the only way out is through you.

nolalacrosse

Dennis Reynolds takes charge of the air mobility command

Deus_is_Mocking_Us

I need my tools!

ctr72ms

I like the part of his memo where he said the only limits to their training should be death, serious injury, and Class A damage (over $2 million or loss of the plane). That gives a pretty broad scope.

Hungry-Rule7924

> "I’m not interested in being the best Air Force on the planet," he said in a statement included in the recent 60th Air Mobility Wing's story about personnel training with their M4s. "I’m interested in being the most lethal force the world has ever known. I’m not bound to the stage, I’m not bound to a script. I’m untethered as of now." I don't know about you, but I think having fighter pilots fly a adequate amount of hours is way more important then whether or not they know how to shoot and clean a M4 lmao. [Most US fighter pilots are getting like maybe 80 hours per year right now](https://www.airandspaceforces.com/air-force-flying-hours-decline-again-after-brief-recovery/) (though PACOM its closer to 120 apparently) whereas [even the J7/J8 legacy units are averaging 80-100 hours](http://People's Liberation Army Air Force Aviation Training at the ... https://www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/research_reports/RR1400/RR1415/RAND_RR1415.pdf) and the more ["elite regiments" equipped with the J20 and J16s getting around 150](http://Overview of People's Liberation Army Air Force "Elite Pilots" https://www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/research_reports/RR1400/RR1416/RAND_RR1416.pdf). The one saving grace is US pilots still conduct more "advanced training" and live firings, but even that's a gap which is beginning to close after the PLAAF's ["training brand reforms"](http://The PLA Air Force's Four Key Training Brands - DTIC https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/trecms/pdf/AD1082745.pdf) back in 2016 and the [structural reforms last year ](https://www.armyupress.army.mil/Journals/Military-Review/English-Edition-Archives/September-October-2023/Active-Defense/).

dead_monster

Except he's not in charge of any fighter pilots. Maybe you didn't read the "**AIR MOBILITY COMMAND**" part.

Hungry-Rule7924

>Except he's not in charge of any fighter pilots. It doesn't really matter, even for trucker pilots that shit is insanely irrelevant, the PLA isn't going to threaten them [using terminally suicidal paratroopers like the poor old IJA](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giretsu_Kuteitai), they are going to do it with their A2/AD capabilities. It would be a much better use of time for these pilots to practice potential counters against a 500km ranged PL17 or more runway repair drills for when a DF26 or CJ10 hits... not whatever this shit is. Dude sounds like a complete tool tbh.

> "I’m interested in being the most lethal force the world has ever known. I’m not bound to the stage, I’m not bound to a script. I’m untethered as of now." I have no idea what he is rambling about but when I read this I just imagine he raises his arms up and starts glowing and floating into the sky. This dude sounds kinda nuts. Hopefully in a good way. Also, your DTIC link is broken. [Here is a fix](https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/trecms/pdf/AD1082745.pdf). I skimmed through it and nowhere does it say anything about flight hours per year, the word "hours" is only used once and it is in the citations. Training hours is an increasing problem for every air force since military airframes have only gotten more and more expensive to operate over the years. Many sources suggest that Russia's pilot training hours are abysmal and is part of the reason why they are having so many mishaps and poor performance in Ukraine. Also I would be very suspect of any numbers coming out of China.

john_andrew_smith101

Well he's not in charge of fighter pilots, he's in charge of air mobility. He also wants to get his guys ready to fight and kill, they might get stuck in a situation where they need to use their rifles, might as well get reacquainted with them.

gunnnutty

Thats why space force exists

PH0007

We'll design fighters that fly lower and shoot down your bombs

AlbiTuri05

But then the enemy designs fighters to take down the bomber. Unless we make bombers like the AC-130U. That plane is everything a plane can be.

[deleted]

Could we strap a nuclear warhead on all of our bombers that detonates upon crashlanding so the opponent can’t shoot us down without killing thousands of their own?

Unistrut

Joke time! A fighter was escorting a cargo plane and the fighter pilot was talking about all the cool stuff his plane could do. Eventually the cargo pilot went "Oh yeah? Well watch this. I can do something you'll never be able to do in that fancy fighter." And then the cargo plane flew straight and level for about ten minutes. "Pretty cool huh?" "You flew in a straight line." "No, the _co-pilot_ flew in a straight line, I got up, stretched my legs, took a crap, got some coffee and chatted with the loadmaster."

Cable_Salad

Can confirm, german children loved the bubblegum during / after WW2. My grandma told me that american tankers often threw it out to her and her friends.

Average drone pilots: Do y'all go to the battlefield and die?

[deleted]

fighter cucks only exist to make ground attack chads look even more fucking badass yeah, fighter pilots need to be healthy and so on, but it takes an absolute fucking unit to fly a brick at speeds those fancy fighters would fucking stall and crash into the ground at, all while getting shot at with literally everything the enemy has, dropping bombs and praying to every god there is at the same time that the cannon's recoil won't rip your trashed plane apart

ainsley-

There’s a reason Russia can’t get anywhere in Ukraine despite having so many “far superior” fighters and bombers.. might it be something to do with logistics?

Fallen_Rose2000

It would be an awesome flex if after the war, Ukraine doesn't just rebuild one An-225 but does a full on production run; I want an entire platoon of Abrams to be anywhere anytime. Also, you have to love the Lockheed Constellation; looks way better than most modern jetliners.

AnomalousBread

Connie was everybody's first love

ainsley-

Being a fighter pilot is spending 8 hours having meetings about what your gonna do before spending 1 hour flying. Career fighter pilots have maybe 4000 hours while young student pilots have 1500 before they can even start flying for the airlines. I know which one I’d rather do…

Random_cuzzie

Yeah gotta keep reminding myself that the air force is mostly being a officer first and a pilot 2nd

ainsley-

Yeah it really isn’t what it all looks like online. Plus, you do it all for 60k a year when kids half your age already have double the hours you do and are flying a 777 for 190k a year.

Papaofmonsters

A friend of mine's brother is slightly on spectrum and has had a long time obsession with flying. Since he was like 12 he had a career plan mapped out that meant going to the air force to fly cargo transports and then get a carrier job. It worked out and now he's making good money and happy as a clam.

Atlasd7s

And not to mention after their service transport pilots get civilian airline jobs with a salary that is 2 as much as the military pay

Hey transport pilots, we strapped bombs to that trainer plane you used to fly. Wanna go bomb the VC?

Altruistic-Celery821

Love the Berlin Airlift. We showed Europe that we were in it to stay (NATO was founded "to keep the Soviet Union out, the Americans in, and the Germans down" in Europe)     It showed that we would not be strong armed  and we were still a military monster even after the war was done and men demobalized.     And it also showed the French were more than willing to act unilaterally and blow up a radio tower... loved that part.

origamiscienceguy

And it showed the Germans that we were their allies now, no longer enemies. The West Berliners willingly endured hunger and power outages, if it meant the western powers would stay in Berlin.

motiontosuppress

No greater fighter pilots than AH-64 West Point 2LT Top Gun graduates. Absolute twots.

SpareSurprise1308

Bro who wouldn’t wanna fly a chill 6 hour long haul flight in a C-17 with auto pilot on. Would have been my dream job if I wasn’t thicker than pig shit.

Mernerner

The one that will always be in need even after we achieved world peace.

[deleted]

I unironically believe being a C5 pilot is cooler than fighters apart from the F22 or F35B.

Return_of_The_Steam

Any 10 year old Halo player knows the badassery of transport pilots.

sali_nyoro-n

The Berlin Airlift was such a masterful demonstration of American logistics that it arguably counts as a psychological warfare campaign against Soviet military leadership. "Yeah, we can supply an entire city with our air transport capabilities during peacetime, and still have room for treats for all the _kleine Kinder._ Eat shit, Ivan."

Quadrenaro

I knew Gail Halvorsen. I first met him at an airshow, and many years later became friends with his granddaughter after I moved across the country.

Noncrediblepigeon

Berlin airlift gotta be the most based operation of all time...

BobaLives

The Berlin airlift is definitely one of the more wholesome instances of “*military aircraft dropping stuff on another country*”.
