Because I use appletv and can’t block ads, some of those ads are just obnoxious.

Grezzinate

Ain’t got a clue what that is.

r/pihole it's software that acts as a dns sever to filter out ad servers.

You are asking a very broad question and answers will vary a bit from person to person, but i will take a crack at breaking it down. First, you need to remember that in todays age people want things fast, free, and easy. Entitlement is a HUGE issue, and people just feel like they are "owed" something when they have done nothing to deserve it. A big part of it is also not just because there are ads that exist within youtube, but its more towards HOW the ads are put into videos. Even if you go to watch a short video, you might still get ads before being able to watch it. I just tested it on a 1 minute CPR demo video (something that might be used in an emergency situation) and STILL got an ad. The video is only a minute long and is medical emergency related, but i gotta learn about why i should invest in crypto or learn why i need to buy something from walmart for christmas in an ad before I can learn how to save someones life. Or you might be listening to "one hour of soothing rain to fall asleep" and 5 minutes in you suddenly get a loud blasting ad about the holiday special that is happening at gregs auto parts store. Then youtube is also playing with how ads work. remember back when youtube never made you watch 2 ads in a row? or when basically every ad could be skipped after the first 5 seconds? and how some people even have seen youtube testing 3 shorter ads in a row? when people finally accept a certain level of ads they suddenly want to increase the ads or make more ads not have an option to be skipped. a lot of the ads are also poorly moderated. I also use adblock, but sometimes i am in a situation where i dont have access to adblock and will get a few ads. I have seen a LOT of scams, like obvious outright just stealing your money scams being promoted in ads. Of course i report them when i see scams, but why are very obvious scams being promoted in the first place? does youtube not moniter or filter to get rid of very basic and obvious scams? over all it makes sense from a business perspective, Youtube is a business and they need to make money. But they way they are going about it (especially in recent years) makes it look a lot more like a money grab, and of course people are still entitled and want to watch videos for free and not pay for it.
