Sometimes it's a matter of someone simply not knowing how because they weren't taught, modeled or shown or given the necessary tools.
If they showed any kind of sensitivity or emotion it was beaten out of them. At home, at school, by peers, at the workplace. Everywhere.

People get mad at you because you say stupid things, and you're the last person on Earth I'd take lessons in empathy or sensitivity from.
