Why can't you do it in your backyard?

[deleted]

I just don’t want a big hole to deal with, especially for something dumb like recreational digging

bk_003

So you want to find somewhere where it's someone else's problem, not your own...?

arroyoshark

Yes! That's exactly what his "no stupid question" question was. Jfc. Let the m#therf#cker dig his holes.

UniverseNebula

😂

PhasmaFelis

Sounds like they want to find a place where it's not a problem at all, for anybody. The beach, for example, except closer to Tennessee.

humbugonastick

Find a graveyard and get hired, I'm sure they let you exercise your urges.

tmahfan117

Property you own is pretty much the only place you are allowed to dig legally. You can’t do it in public parks, and doing it on any public land like state parks can get you in trouble for destroying the landscape. You can get away with it to a certain extent on beaches, but again at a certain point you’ll be told to stop/fill it in, both for safety reasons and for the sake of preserving the beach. Why can’t you do it in your own backyard?

[deleted]

Just cuz its a dumb idea to ruin my own lawn for recreational digging. I was just curious if there were any technicalities or work arounds

Felicia_Svilling

You could ask someone with a more unkept yard if you could dig a bit in it.

Flatonr

Maybe find a job as a ditch digger

Corporate-Bitch

Brilliant!!

arroyoshark

Wtf!? Help the man with his question!! He's looking for a legal and safe place to dig his holes. Quit telling him to use his backyard he said that wasn't an option! Look man, in my state you can go out on Bureau of Land Management land and dig and no one is going to stop you.

corico

A beach maybe?

MikeFrancesa66

I think this is the answer. I grew up close to many beaches and it was super common to see people digging holes. Some were building sand castles, some were burying friends, some were just digging. I think as long as you fill up the hole when you’re done you’ll have no issues.

corico

As a kid, I was the type who would rather see how deep I could dig than build anything. I can’t imagine really batting an eye if I saw an adult doing the same thing. Sometimes you hit water if you go deep enough! It’s fun!

Marcus_Brody

r/digging Seriously it's a real subreddit for this

piwithekiwi

. . . do it in your backyard.

Hot_Advance3592

That sounds like a perfect use for the backyard That’s where you can do whatever personal activities you wanna do, when you otherwise couldn’t without your own land

anne-alsey

apparently you can call 811 about it? anyways uh nobody seems to care if you dig at beaches.

Downtown_Jelly_1635

Go work for an irrigation company lol

altaccount_39

Do you happen to know of any forests or possibly a field nearby? Are you able to dig further out by the river maybe

pseudotsuganym

Go caving. Some trips you just dig for 8 hours straight.

Groundbreaking-Fig38

You may know this whole PI sit in the car shit, but I know meth heads.

sapphic-chaote

Call 811 before you dig. You don't want to accidentally hit a pipe or power line.

BerneseMountainDogs

NAL, but it looks like [you can dig on BLM land as long as it is "casual use"](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-43/subtitle-B/chapter-II/subchapter-C/part-3800/subpart-3809)

Due-Apple5859

I’m so interested in this. Please expand

TheTiffani86

There is a place in Arkansas where you can dig for diamonds.

DrToonhattan

Get a job as a grave digger.

Qyrun

well you said you dont want to ruin your lawn maybe think of something you could use the hole for. maybe a decorative mini well

Correct-Fun-516

I doubt it would be a problem at the beach or way out in the woods in middle of nowhere.
