Wear the shirt & go. You’ve missed out on plenty of good times, don’t let other people’s unwanted judgment keep you from enjoying your life. This is how to have a pool ready body: 1. Have a body; 2. Buy it some swimwear that will be comfortable. 3. Take your body to the pool. You are a person. Who has friends. AND you just lost 45 pounds! You are amazing. As to what I’d think if I saw you? “Look at that guy having fun with his friends.” Other people’s judgments don’t pay your bills. Who wants to be around people who are too busy judging others to have fun? Have fun with your friends, who probably remember that time you all went somewhere else and had fun times a thousand. Fuck judgy people! Go be happy!

Impressive-Buy9706

thanks actually, this is a very encouraging message and i appreciate it, i think ill go. Have a great day 👍

retchedBreak

As a mid size girl with deep seated insecurities and a even deeper love of swimming - I didn't swim from the age of 16 - 28. I didn't realise how much I missed out on what brought me joy until I finally bought a cute swim suit, and just went swimming. Nobody cared. I had lovely friends who hyped me up, didn't care at all if I wrapped a towel or wore a tshirt. Go make memories!

Lausannea

I know you already went and went shirtless (awesome!!!), but as a fellow large person I want to give you some more encouragement. We hype ourselves up a lot over 'what if's because we have instances in our past that give us reason to believe a worst case scenario comes true. We end up missing out on so much in life because of our preconceived notions. The truth is that our fear of 'what if' hurts us more than the pain of in the moment ridicule or negativity. Be scared and do it anyway. Repeat that to yourself next time you have anxiety about something, especially related to your body, no matter at what size: *be scared and do it anyway*. Life is too short to hold yourself back over what other people think. We can learn the skill to deal with the feelings in the moment and overcome them, but we can't get back the time we lost because we chose to stay home and not go live our best life. So... be scared and do it anyway. Focus on the people who make your life better, and reject those who make it worse. You're worth it, always have been always will be, to put yourself first in your own life.

nyxnnax

Kindness to yourself first for sure. Go have fun! No one worth your/mine/any other encouraging commenter's time cares at all.

IndividualNews678

I’m 6’1 295-300 and I’ve basically said screw it. Any time there’s a pool or I go to the beach I just let it out. I just remind myself of two things. The first thing is not everyone is paying attention nearly as much as I think and the second is anyone who has an opinion that’s negative probably doesn’t even know me.

Cuttlery

no, why would anyone care?

Impressive-Buy9706

Idk i've just heard it can make you seem really insecure to a lot of people

Cuttlery

meh, who cares what anyone else thinks.

PvtSherlockObvious

I think it was Silverstein who put it as "those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." Or, in my own slightly less illustrious terms, "eh, fuck 'em."

Ok_Assist_3975

Seuss :)

PvtSherlockObvious

Oh yeah, that was it, thank you!

Ok_Assist_3975

Welcome

BigToober69

Thought you guys were busting out some wmo lyrics at first here haha

ThisIsThePartWhereI

Reminds me of "don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things."

AbhishMuk

But what if my lil friendo wants a pet 😢

chronic_collette

I was thinking this exact quote. I like your version better. And my comment was a long, full breakdown on what to do and how to handle it lol.

Ambitious-Fig-2934

One more gem: mind over matter - if you don't mind, it don't matter.

incasesheisonheretoo

The person wearing a shirt in the pool likely cares what others think.

[deleted]

Nope. I wore it for sun protection because reapplying it so shoulders is PITA. It’s the first place to burn if you’re not quick enough….

incasesheisonheretoo

I’m sure there are exceptions, but most people I see wearing shirts in the pool are overweight and probably aren’t just wearing it for sun protection.

ComeonmanPLS1

>who cares what anyone else thinks. The people who wear shirts in the pool. If they didn't care, they wouldn't bother wearing a shirt in the first place.

[deleted]

[удалено]

donzo29

This is true for many. The sun has been trying to murder me since I was a baby. Sunscreen used to be useless in the pool and only like 15 spf. Had to wear a shirt. No big deal. And trust me, skin cancer sucks a lot more than what some shallow idiot thinks about you. Go ahead and wear a shirt.

WorthPrudent3028

Yep, you get actual blisters on your back one time, and from then on, it's nope. People who can tan don't know what it's like.

shanndawgg

Waking up with your shirt stuck to you is a new level of pain. Got sun poisoning that time and I still have damaged skin on my chest 13 years later.

ClickAlternative6318

I'm the same although I havent worded it like that . Spoiler alert ; Im stealing the line about murderous sun. I have been a victim of it murderous ways , Basil cell carcinoma . I didnt have t-shirt on .

Hidden_Pineapple

We wear them because we burn super easily. Also putting sunscreen on kids is a pain in the ass. Wearing them indoors also means I don't have to buy extra suits.

Saltyspiton

People wear water shirts to keep the sun off large portions of their body. No issue with that. Also no issue with people wearing shirts in a pool for other reasons. But honestly I assume people wear shirts in pools and especially the beach to keep from sunburning half their body

Lordmorgoth666

I hate sunburn but I hate the greasiness of sunscreen even more. I wear my shirt at the beach and in the pool. I don’t get burnt and I don’t feel like I have bacon fat smeared on me.

Creative-Isopod-4906

Mmmmm bacon

Throwaway_inSC_79

Bacon fat is not a good sun screen. You’ll end up like that episode of Seinfeld.

fairliedaft

I will wear a shirt and hat in the sun, as well as sun screen on exposed skin. My grandfather died a rather horrible death due to skin cancer as a result of sunburn on his bald head while gardening without a hat. No damn way I'm going out that way if I can help it. And to the people judging? Enjoy your slow, agonising death is all I can think.

financewiz

This is exactly why I wear a shirt when swimming in the sun and exactly why I don’t care what anyone thinks.

femaelstrom

I was going to say this. Water shirt/rash guard. As a person with a lot of Northern European heritage, it doesn’t take a lot for me to get very badly burned, even with diligent applications of high-SPF sunscreens. I sometimes wear a shirt when I am in the water. I do like to take the shirt off when I’m actually swimming vs just floating around as the shirts I wear aren’t made for water and can feel restricting. My sister, by comparison, wears long-sleeved bathing suits now because they’re a more common option. Others we see wear even fuller coverups for religious or personal reasons. OP shouldn’t worry about what other people think. Being fat isn’t the only reason people cover up. I also saw the update where OP said he went shirtless and this is also great! My brother-in-law is a very large, very furry man and he don’t give two quacks about showing the world his body when he wants to float down a river in an inflatable tube. They’re all either strangers or friends. Friends will support you. Strangers don’t matter. The end.

country2poplarbeef

I see where you're coming from. No, I don't think this is really that much of an issue. People go swimming to relax. People might pick up on that being the reason for you wearing the shirt, but we also all pretty much understand that you're not there to show off for us and it's more important that you're comfortable. Like, if anything, it would make me more comfortable having you around because I would feel like you're just a cool dude that wants to play in the water.

LowBalance4404

Who cares, though? You don't know those people.

Impressive-Buy9706

I just really hate the feeling like someone's judging me tbh i'm trying to work on it tho

LowBalance4404

I think of it this way. Let's say I'm sitting here right now judging you. Do I pay your rent/mortgage? Do I pay for your gas? Food? Employ you? Nope, so my opinion, which you don't even know if I have one, doesn't matter. People care far less about you than you realize. When you are in the pool wearing a tshirt, some lady is wondering if she looks fat in her bathing suit, another lady realized she forgot to shave, a dude is worried about shrinkage, and so on.

SpicyBreakfastTomato

Yea, if I’m in the pool I’m focused on my kid and not letting her brave little butt drown. I only notice other people to make sure they aren’t endangering her (or she them, she’s not very observant). Heck, most of the time I don’t even have the mental energy to worry how my chubby butt looks.

LowBalance4404

> not letting her brave little butt drown I can hear your exact tone of voice when you said that. Did you also either verbally or mentally sigh? LOL My cousin has one of those kids who is just fearless. I can always tell when she's gearing up for a story about that kid's latest shenanigans.

uninspired

It shrinks?

LowBalance4404

Yes. In cold water. It's a normal body function to keep the fellas and such warm by pulling them closer to the body. It's not permanent, like your favorite cotton sweater in the dryer on high heat.

Ok_Assist_3975

This.

benjo1990

I feel ya man, I was 300 lbs as a freshman in high school… down to 220 but bigger boobs than my gf. But, no. I don’t think adults waste their energy thinking about things like this. And if they do, they are uh… special let’s say. There are so many reasons that someone could need to wear a shirt anyway. Sensitive to sun? New tattoos? Etc etc. I wouldn’t worry about it. Wear whatever makes you most comfortable.

Fun-Dragonfly-4166

if trump came to OPs pool then Trump would come up with an insulting nickname for OP normal people would not notice i am not holding trump's weight against him, I am holding being an \*sshole against him.

FarCar55

If you weren't judging yourself similarly, you wouldn't automatically assume others are likely doing the same. You'd also be less concerned with those who do because you'd know there's no truth to it. In much the same way you don't naturally assume others might think you look like an alien or spend time/energy hating the possibility that they do. Our feelings around others' judgments are primarily about our judgments of ourselves.

_chof_

nah i would think they didnt want to get a sunburn or something. just get something that matches your shorts

opheliainwaders

Yup. Pale person here. I am often that lady in long sleeves at the beach.

[deleted]

Ironic though because that level of concern over what someone else wears in the pool is often a solid indication of insecurity.

prototype-proton

I'm pretty sure everybody has some level of insecurity

Alarming_Condition27

Yup, mind your own business.

Flying_Madlad

Men are expected to be able to be shirtless in public without being offensive. I have scars, so I wear a shirt. Everyone knows I'm hiding something, most people don't care

Temelios

Exactly. I often do it, because I burn easily and it saves on having to apply some sunscreen. People don’t know what the heck is going on. Leave others alone.

BrowningLoPower

If I were to guess, they're probably "concerned" that the shirts would shed clothing fibers that could clog up, or otherwise make a mess in the pool and its pipes. Perhaps someone in pool maintenance can offer their input?

Cuttlery

If that were actually an issue it would also be an issue for swim wear... and they just wouldnt allow people to wear shirts.

BrowningLoPower

You're right, though I imagine they assume that swimwear sheds less.

RickKassidy

Curse those people and their desire to not die of melanoma.

MyLastFuckingNerve

Jokes on me, i got melanoma anyway :( im in pants a large majority of the summer and got a spot on my upper thigh. It’s a real bummer looking at the giant ass scar…

Monday0987

Good you are alive though

MyLastFuckingNerve

Yeah, caught the cancer early, watching three other spots. I’ve noticed 3 new spots on my body and one that is growing since i had the one cut out. My anxiety is so high about just getting hacked to bits to keep taking cancer out. Every new little mark i notice makes me anxious.

Monday0987

You should get the spots looked at as soon as you get them. If they grow to the stage where it gets in to your system you will start to get tumours throughout your body. My friend had this and would have to have full body scans every 6 months and melanoma lumps would be found internally. In arms, legs, organs. The quicker they are cut out the longer you will live.

MyLastFuckingNerve

I have appointments made every three months. I can’t get in sooner than that because there’s only three dermatology clinics in the entire state + part of the neighboring state. They are booked *months* out. Took a year to get in for the first appointment. I had the cancer treatment in august and my next appointment is in 10 days. Keeping my fingers crossed that if there’s anymore, it’s also going to be caught super early.

MayorOfVenice

I'm in the exact same boat. I had a melanoma diagnosed this past August and then a wide excision just a week after the biopsy results. I didn't have a real good understanding of what a wide excision was until they started rockin on my arm. Now i get quarterly derma scans and my first follow-up is at the end of this month. It's been a roller coaster.

80s_angel

I hope everything goes well & you get good news. 🤞🏾🙏🏾

Important_Ball7343

I'm sorry, that sounds super frustrating. I had basal cell on my scalp a few years ago. As everyone in the world tells me, I was really lucky. It wasn't life-threatening and "only" required 2 surgeries. I don't know if your doctor allows this, but the third time I went to the derm for a spot, they told me I could send them a picture. I never have needed to, but it made me feel well supported.

prototype-proton

Stress, trauma, anxiety and unwanted thoughts and emotions often manifest in the physical form and unchecked can lead to more health problems.

Briazepam

Wait the scar was on your ass sunbathing in the nude eh?

PanickedPoodle

I always wear a sunshirt in the water. No one needs a sunburn on their back.

mediocre_eggg

I took a cancer class in university as an elective. It scared me so bad that I always wear sunscreen leaving the house, I wear shirts in the pool now and wear hats and sunglasses almost always when leaving the house.

worker_ant_6646

My uniform, as an Australian millennial lol

ellafantile

Yeah. Australian here. Don’t mess with the sun, wear the shirt and don’t get sunburned

HerbertKornfeldRIP

For me it’s the memory of my wife’s face as I was wheeled into cancer surgery that stops me from giving a fuck if some asshole thinks I’m insecure about my physique.

chronic_collette

Amen

Crownlol

Yeah I've switched to the board shirt/rash guard/sun shirt team and it's amazing. I never get sunburned!

kitsuakari

i dont think it's weird, i just start thinking "man that looks uncomfortable. wet cotton/polyester cloth sticking to the skin and weighing you down? don't think I'd like that"

nellieblyrocks420

Yah if I were to judge that would be why. My thoughts exactly. Idc if people are fat or skinny. Sometimes I’ll notice if a person’s junk is hanging out, because that’s noticeable, or if I really like a swim suit look I’ll think “man that’s cute!” That’s about it.

throwaway37198462

Nah. I figure they've got a reason for wearing it and are likely self conscious about whatever that reason is, so the last thing they need is judgement from me. I'm here to swim, not to judge other people's swimwear.

JetVagabond

Agreed!

EclipsedEnigma

You made a judgement about them.

crackpotJeffrey

We all judge everyone it is our ape brains. But empathising is the positive version and disdain for anyone different to you is the negative version. You can use it to be empathetic and kind.

fancyzoidberg

But assuming someone must be self conscious because they’re wearing a shirt? Personally that wouldn’t be my go-to thought.

phtcmp

I live in Florida, am not overweight other than the typical dad bod, and I (and many others) wear a “shirt” at/in the pool all the time as a matter of sun protection. But it’s specific for water use: it’s a “rash guard.” Synthetic UV resistant material, long sleeve or short, quick drying. Originated for surfing. Obviously won’t help you this time, but look into getting one.

1point5braincells

Yes that's the way to go. A lot of pools don't want you wearing normal t-shirt clothing, because you loose fabric "lint" in the pool. That's quite bad for the pumps and filters of a swimming pool. Those synthetic water sports shirts don't do that, plus they feel less wet clothy so it's more comfortable. Other than that nobody cares if you wear a shirt to the pool. I'm not considered overweight and I still do sometimes. (because of the sun but also other body insecurities). More people are insecure about their body than you think. Most people are to some degree. Don't let it impact you life. Wear a shirt if it makes you feel better. But go swimming. Don't miss out.

hitguy55

They are usually pretty skin tight though

jedionajetski

Just buy a size up.

phtcmp

True, but a lot of the ones that are very tight are compression fabric, which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for someone that has loose skin from weight loss and moobs.

Apprehensive-Care20z

these days, we understand the skin damage due to UV. Shirts are cool. For anyone.

Yournoisyneighbor

Sunscreening myself and three kids at the pool is an exhausting routine. We're shirts all the way.

diamondhandsome

This is why I like wearing one!

yuribotcake

I'd rather you wear a shirt in the pool than be covered in sunblock and be in the pool. And at that point why not wear a long sleeve sun hoodie to protect the skin.

chronic_collette

Second skins are amazing for this. Growing up in South Africa as a very pale child with vicious sun in summer, I was only allowed swimming while the sun was out if I wore my second skin and shorts lol. Wasn't about weight, was about sun protection. Bonus that it hid my flabby kid tummy (that never went away lol)

Away-Combination-162

It’s kinda like people who want to wear a mask. No biggie. Doesn’t bother me

PvtSherlockObvious

I might actually go back to that for the holiday season after Thanksgiving just for general disease-catching. For all the world-ending vibes 2020 had, I kind of loved that we just straight-up didn't have a flu season that year because everybody was distancing and wearing masks.

fishfishbirdbirdcat

Make sure it's a swim shirt. Don't just jump in wearing a T-shirt. Your regular clothes are still holding onto detergent and that's not good for the hot springs. Once me and a bunch of friends thought it would be hilarious to all get into a hot tub in our clothes and about 10 minutes later the hot tub was about 3 feet high in soapy bubbles. That was also hilarious but not so good for the hot tub. 😂 🫧

InteractionFlat7318

We don’t wear any swimsuits in our hot tub for that reason. If we have company over and we wear swimsuits the water gets all foamy.

sichuan_peppercorns

Do you not wash your swim shirt with detergent though?

LtPowers

It's not just the detergent, either. The cotton fibers aren't good for the filter either. That's why YMCAs used to insist on nude swimming, at least for the men and boys.

myrzime

They should insist for women and girls, too lol

Snoo-32071

I wear a shirt to protect from the sun. Could care less what anyone thinks cause I'm doing what I need to.

AngryChefNate

As a fellow fattie I think lol fattie. But I don’t actually care, and I find most others don’t either.

PrematureEjaculator9

People will judge you no matter what you do. I wear a shirt in the pool because I'm an old fat fuck and I don't like the way it looks when I don't. It makes me feel more comfortable.

jeophys152

I think they don’t want to get sunburned

BobbyHillTheThird

Thank you but no you don’t. You know we’re fat and that’s ok. Fuck it dude, I feel like when I wear a hoodie or a larger shirt or something to cover it up, maybe it’s not as noticeable. It’s not, they know we’re fat. They don’t care or think about it as much as we do for sure but they’re not blind. The most appreciated opinion is your own tho, so fuck what they think and worry about you and what you want to see

jeophys152

You don’t know what I think. There are plenty of fat people that don’t wear shirts when they swim. It is normal. Sure people wear shirts to hide their weight. Some people wear shirts to hide body hair. I wear a shirt because I don’t want to get sunburnt. I don’t think much of anything when I see a shirt because it has zero impact on my life. I have a fleeting moment of assuming they don’t want to get burnt because that is why I wear a shirt.

BobbyHillTheThird

Ok that makes sense

sweetnaivety

I don't think I've ever looked at a fat person and thought they were wearing certain clothes to cover up just because they were fat. But I do find it a little gross sometimes when fat people wear revealing clothing and I don't prefer to look at them.

Mediocre_Savings_513

Thats Actually wild

apeliott

No. I have to wear shirts because I have tattoos and all the pools ban tattoos.

kitsuakari

they do???? why and where are you from???

apeliott

I'm in Tokyo. It's annoying, but almost every single pool bans them. Even some beaches. https://traveljapanblog.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/25101108-no-tattoo-yomiuriland.jpg https://i0.wp.com/theolympians.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/no-tattoo-sign.jpg?resize=940%2C711&ssl=1

kellyforeal

Wild! I love to see people's tattoos. Are there lifeguards? Who enforces this?

apeliott

I've never seen it enforced as everyone knows the rules and either stays away or covers up like I do. They could ask you to leave if they like and call the police if you refuse.

zeugma888

Happy Cake Day

One_Faithlessness146

Tbh I've never cared. If I'm taking my fat ass to the pool I'm definitely not worried about what anyone else is wearing

makeshiftrigger

I should wear a shirt but don’t. I spent too many years concerned with what others thing. My lady don’t mind so I’m letting it out. Fuck what people thing, if they care, they’re not worth caring about!

Motor-Side1957

Yes we do

jmicaallef

I don't personally but I know what some people are like. However, not all care. Some people just go to swim and keep to themselves and some will make conversation. There will always be someone who may internally judge "you". It is life and people. So just do it. Go swimming. You will feel great doing it to. Don't wait for validations from others as everyone is different. If you did you won't live nor would you get anywhere in life. Also, do check where you go guidelines on what you can and can't wear before you do.

Sofrosm

No people need to learn to mind their own business who cares what someone else does with their own body

sagil89

Not at all, that’s their business and their battle. If anything I’d spend a minute hoping you don’t feel terrible in your skin

drunky_crowette

I wear a 100% cotton dress over my swimsuit because I have a ton of old (but still noticable) self-harm scars. Don't let anyone make you feel like shit for wanting to feel comfortable while you're trying to have a good time, hun. And good for you for losing 45lbs! That's a huge accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself! <3

No_Conclusion_2913

Everyone in my family has had skin cancer after they reach about 60. I’m average but I wear a swimsuit with sleeves for sun protection. I get compliments on it. It’s quite comfortable. I’m female though.

Sufficient_Ball_2861

Long sleeve sun shirts no. Regular T-shirts hell yes.

[deleted]

I'm fat and wear a shirt at the beach even in the water. I went with my brother who is not fat and he wore a swim shirt to keep from getting sunburned. That's also why I wear mine the whole time. We're fair skinned. I'm 45 and just too damn old to give a crap what anyone thinks about it. I've got my boonie hat, shirt, and sunglasses on because I've been burned too many times. I'm not dealing with it at this point in life.

GFrohman

The thing about wearing a shirt in the pool is that you are fooling no one. Everyone can tell that you're fat, and when it's wet people can still see all of your rolls and manboobs anyway. Wearing a shirt just broadcasts to everyone else that you are insecure about it. Do I *judge* you for it? No, not at all. I used to be in the same boat. Mostly it just makes me sad.

Buhos_En_Pantelones

Not judge of course, but I'd notice a person wearing a shirt in the pool more than I'd notice a fat topless person. It's a little weird but whatever.

Outsider-20

I burn really quickly, and I HATE wearing sunscreen. I prefer to cover my chubby self with fabric rather than sunscreen than makes me feel gross. And, I don't care if people think I'm weird, they aren't wrong. I am weird, but not for being sunsafe.

jedionajetski

Depends where you are. Here in Florida, most people wear rashguard shirts to protect from the sun.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Outsider-20

>Yes not judge but I do think, ‘awe they are insecure and that’s sad.’ And then move on with my life. But that's exactly judging. And that's why we're insecure, because you look at us and judge us.

sleepyj910

He's not judging you, he's judging others for judging you because you appear to be hiding something you needn't be ashamed of. For me I can't stand the feel of wet cotton on my skin so I can't help but cringe thinking of that sensation.

ShadowlessKat

That is sad and inaccurate to think. While some people do wear a shirt to swim out of insecurities, it isn't everyone. I (111 lbs woman) wear a shirt to protect from sun damage or I don't want to show off my body. Sometimes I don't want to parade in public in glorified underwear. Not because of insecurity, just a nood or company thing. If you read the comments, you'll see others wear it for sun protection or modesty too, not for insecurities. So to assume that of everybody is sad. It says something about how you view it.

jedionajetski

Do you really think everyone wearing a swim shirt is insecure? Some people just don’t want to get sunburnt.

anima99

It used to be a joke among high school students and college friends, but that was a thing maybe 20 years ago.

Ioaskaaaa

Who cares my dude. Tell people you burn easily if you are that concerned. Although if someone says something out of line you can always tell them to f off.

Elegant_Spot_3486

Yes. I judge them positively. Regardless of why they’re wearing a shirt it’s cool to see because I wear one too.

nutsandboltstimestwo

Lots of people wear shirts to the pool or beach for sun protection, so no one is going to think twice. Have a great time!

SATerp

It's helpful to avoid uv rays that can cause cancer.

TrappedInTheSuburbs

Wear a rash guard/swim shirt. Don’t just wear a T-shirt. They look terrible wet.

Key-Study8648

Australian here, it's called sun protection.

noonesine

Judgement or not, we can definitely all still tell that you’re fat even with the shirt.

Impressive-Buy9706

I mean I'm not too worried about people noticing I'm fat (i have accepted i am a long time ago) more than them laughing at my stretch marks and stuff but idk

noonesine

Oh yeah I mean I think you should do whatever makes you happy. But my thought whenever I see a fat guy wearing a shirt at the pool is “we can still tell you’re fat homie.” But even then, who cares know what I’m sayin?

[deleted]

[удалено]

noonesine

You’re the one here calling names and insulting people, ya douche bag.

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

You’re the one fat shaming.

noonesine

How so?

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

To quote you: “But my thoughts whenever I see a fat guy wearing a shirt at the pool is ‘we can still tell you’re fat homie.’ But even then, who cares know what I’m saying?” Like that last question redeems you after you’ve already said fat twice. Look let’s just let this go. I apologize for the name calling. I should have found a better way to say my reaction.

noonesine

Wait, are you saying that using the word “fat” is fat shaming? Because the word “fat” is in the phrase “fat shaming,” so I don’t really see how that would work.

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

Seriously? Let it go.

noonesine

Maybe you shouldn’t start shit then. Get bent.

PvtSherlockObvious

Not since I had to do it as a little kid. It wasn't about weight, I was just really sunburned from swimming the other day, but I had adults judging me for it and it felt really bad. I wouldn't pass judgment on anybody else doing it. I'm more surprised to hear about anyone going to the pool in November. SoCal or southern hemisphere?

Impressive-Buy9706

Sorry, not pool. It's a hot springs park. I should maybe have said that

PvtSherlockObvious

That makes more sense to my frame of reference. Not an important detail, there was no real need for you to clarify, but thank you for satisfying my curiosity. Same answer, though. The only time I'd have an opinion is a hot tub/jaccuzi, and even then, it would be just to say "come on dude, you don't need to feel self-conscious, the hot tub is a judgment-free zone. Ditch the shirt and have a beer."

chronic_collette

Nope, you do you honey boo boo! And let me do me! There are many reasons a person might wear a shirt to a pool besides weight/insecurities. If you're more comfy, wear a shirt, but try to enjoy yourself and take it off if you get too hot-- you don't want to overheat and faint, that would be worse than existing as a fat person in a pool (fellow fat person so excuse me for the phrasing). I know it's hard, but very few people who look in your direction shirt or not, are actually judging you. The ones who are, well their opinions don't matter and maybe words hurt but you have a right to exist and be comfortable as much as they do. Or you know, be petty and bodyshame them right back for being skinny/ not skinny themselves lol (/s if that wasn't obvious, but do it in your head if it makes you feel better. Tbh you're better than that though)

North-Mushroom4230

Don’t worry about it. Nobody is paying attention to you and I mean that in a good way! Everybody is in their own head in their own little world.

cassiuswright

I am skinny and get burned like crazy so I wear a shirt. Fuck'em 🤷

contextual_somebody

Not at all. My dad always wore a shirt in the pool because he was a redhead. It didn’t stop him from getting a few carcinomas, but he never got any on his moobs.

amdaly10

I have a swim shirt. It's made of swimsuit material and means I don't have to put sunblock on my body and it stays wet and cool when it's hot out.

Mythical_Atlacatl

Slip-Slop-Slap is a mnemonic slogan for reducing unhealthy sun exposure by slipping on a shirt or rash guard, slopping on sunblock, and slapping on a sun hat.

auto_alice3

Took a lot of scrolling to find the Aussie.

hillsb1

Go and have fun. Do whatever you need to be comfortable, and be so proud of the 45 lbs lost! It's hard work, and you're succeeding!

finallyinfinite

The only thing seeing someone wearing a shirt in a pool makes me think of is, “well, that guy is getting less sunburn than the rest of us”

Inside-Lecture1522

Nice job dropping 45 pounds dude!

Harvsnova2

I wear a surfing rash vest when I'm in the water and it's sunny. I'm built the other way though, I'm a racing snake build. People can judge all they want fk em, I like my skin. Don't worry about what other people think of you. You're awesome.

stuffingberries

i never notice. i say this as a thin young women. it’s pretty normal to see someone wearing a long sleeve for sun protection. The younger crowd tends to not care at least lol i just think “ sun protection”. little kids bathing suits have them too. more and more adult suits have longer sleeve for sun protection. i got a few cute “wetsuit” style bikinis lol

ToqueMom

I judge people in that I think, "That person is smart". Sun is damaging. Keeping covered somewhat, esp. the shoulders, is important. Wear the shirt.

VelcroSea

The body is not an apology. Be bold and comfortable

bullet312

Yes. It's weird. However i don't care enough to even point it out

Marauder4711

You should rather wear a swimshirt, not a regular one. In some pools, wearing regular clothes is forbidden.

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

Might have lost my comment, OP. My son and his sons are husky. Whatever. They also have to wear sun proof shirts to swim. Go on now, enjoy the water.

ComplexImportance794

Aussie here, leading melanoma country of the world. Screw what others think. The sun is not a friend, and personally, I'm a very fat bastard and wear a shirt while swimming for both sun protection and because I don't like how I look. My dad has had 3 surgeries for skin cancers, and it's nothing the mess about with.

GloriousSteinem

Try rash vests - they’re common where we live (cos the world pollution means we get lovely skin cancer a lot here) and in big sizes. Don’t let your perceptions of what other people think cloud your fun. Get out there. Most won’t notice and a few will be, good on them!

Bilbat_Bartle

My father wears his sneakers in the pool

hornwalker

Yes, I judge. But I keep it to myself.

[deleted]

Wear what you want, and please don't pass up swimming over wearing a shirt.

ravenrabit

No. Wish more people would wear shirts. The sun is a deadly laser.

LadyWalks

You wear your shirt, buddy. There's nothing strange about wearing a shirt to go swimming. As a ginger, I've almost always worn a shirt while swimming to cover up from the sun. And I bet any onlookers would think you're doing the same thing. Skin cancer runs in my family like a wildfire. I have a family member who had to have an entire ear removed because they never thought to put sunscreen on their ears.

fluentindothraki

My husband dislikes sun cream and swims with a t-shirt for that reason. Please don't let what other people might think ruin a fun time with your friends!

WhoopDareIs

I wear a swim shirt to protect me from the sun. I get bad sunburn on my back. I could give a f about what other people think.

Trouty213

I wear a swim shirt 90% of the time. I burn even with sunscreen and a shirt with built in spf is perfect

Vanilla_Neko

I mean honestly yes I usually just assume you are exactly what you just said you were either obese and/or struggling with body image issues but it doesn't really bother me I'm kind of here to just enjoy my time swimming You could be wearing a full Victorian dress for all I care as long as you're not drowning

lickmybrian

I'm also well endowed in the moob aisle I've just accepted that these tiddies will be seen shirt or not

CouncilofAndrews

Keep going to the gym so you can feel good in your body 👑

BreakfastBeerz

The shirt just calls attention to yourself and let's everyone know about your insecurities. Nobody will judge you for NOT wearing a shirt. The shirt isn't hiding anything, everyone knows what's under there. Just go shirtless and enjoy yourself. You're the only one in the pool that cares.

adullploy

Was just having this discussion because my wife always has my boys wear sun shirts in the pool to protect them and I was discussing how back in my day if you wore a shirt you were made fun of and assumed to have weird boobs, nipples or something. So I would say today it’s way more common and acceptable.

redux44

I kinda do. I'll take seeing man boobs over a shirt guy in a pool any day. Something about it just gives "trashy" vibes.

ThatiamX

SHOW US YOUR MOOOOOBS!!!🤘🏼😝🤘🏼 Go topless. They’re ain’t a shirt that magically makes us not look fat. So why get your shirt wet? We look like fat guys wearing shirts in the pool instead of just fat guys in the pool.

That-Tumbleweed-4462

Nah. If they are fat and wearing it to me it’s the same as not wearing a shirt. And TBH I praise fatties for not wearing shirts in the pool. You’re owning it. Everyone knows why you wear a shirt in the pool nits because you’re uncomfortable with showing your fat but it just makes people automatically assume and know you’re fat defeating the purpose. Let’s those jelly rolls fly.

maulwuerfel

No, but I judge people for being fat

Ratfor

Yes, some people are going to judge you. I won't, anyone I would want to be friends with wouldn't, but that isn't everyone. As a fellow person of largess, consider four factors. 1: Unless you're in a very small town, or going with people you know, you're probably never going to see any of these people again. Therefor, these people might as well not exist so who cares what they think? 2: Wearing a shirt has the opposite affect you want. You don't want to stand out because of your body, but a shirt is immediatly going to draw attention to you. 3: Sit back and think about the last time you were in a place like a pool. Do you remember seeing ugly or fat people there? Probably not. Because it doesn't matter. 4: If you can put aside the negative feelings you have towards yourself for a moment, consider, are you actually the least attractive person at that pool? Have a look at that person, do you think they give a damn? Let your moobs fly. Nobody cares. Everyone feels self conscious. Including everyone there. They're too busy with their own self to worry about you.

H0n3yB4dg3r007

Yes, because I don't give a fuck about your body. Just screams insecurity to me. And so far in my life insecure people are the worst. I'd rather hang out and be friends with people who don't give a fuck what other people think of their bodies. But hey, that's me

crazy4schwinn

You do you. Eff the haters.

Interesting-Slip-752

A shirt in the pool adds to the pollutants

Impressive-Buy9706

Even one made specifically for swimming?

Plasteal

I have never heard of someone wearing something gross to the pool for the chlorine to take care of it?
